It is somewhat loud, but I hid it under something, placed it on carpet and I never hear it now. The only issue is that one of the ports broke off for no apparent reason. So now I am down to only being able to use one hose.

Update: it has been about three months and the other air line port broke. What is amazing is that they snap off with absolutely no force put upon them, just the weight of the air line itself. Look elsewhere for a better quality pump.

Hagen Nutrafin pH Wide Range 4.5 to 9.0 for Fresh and Saltwater, 100-Tests

This test is the simplest to use, of all the tests I have tried. I still use the API Freshwater test kit and find the Hagen test easier to use.

Both tests have a similar problem. If the PH is between 7.0 and 7.5 it is difficult to discern which way it is drifting.

My application, Aquaponics requires PH in the 6.5 to 6.8 range ideally, again; it is difficult to discern which way it is drifting.

I wanted to confirm the accuracy of another brand of liquid pH test kit that I currently use. The Nutrafin test kit registers one degree lower (6.6) than the other brand (7.6). Now I don't know which test kit reading is correct. I gave this 3 stars with the intent of it being a neutral rating.

I got this to replace the old Voss Toys monkey that ripped. It is not quite as large as the old monkey. Maybe 70% the size of the first one. It seems to be holding up well but it is not as well loved as the first monkey which was the #1 favorite toy. Granted there were a lot of new toys to compete with but this monkey is not as great as the first monkey.

Received the items on time. They float which makes them perfect for our pets.

The are not a pull toy and are too large for smaller dogs. The dogs love them.

Most dog toys are destroyed in 5 minutes. Not so the latex monkey. They get destroyed only after about 5 months of rough play, morning, day and night. My dog loves his latex monkey: he runs around flinging it here and there... shaking it all about. He has such a blast with it! He is now onto his 5th or 6th latex monkey. All the previous ones were disemboweled and trashed (even though I let him play with the empty floppy exoskeleton for a while). I am sad that the LARGER version of this monkey has been totally sold out all over the internet, so his current monkey is the small 16" version. I hope that when this is sold out, more latex monkeys will be produced.

We purchased the latex monkey at the recommendation of a friend who said this was her dog's favorite toy and it was indestructible. This is a great little starter aquarium. My son loves it! From the description I thought I needed to buy a pump and tubing for the aerating ornament; however, this was not the case. These items are included in the aquarium. We just had to buy the fish and food. Since it does not have a heater (and cautions against one since it's plastic) you cannot use tropical fish, but goldfish and danios will work. We bought 3 glofish, and they are beautiful.

An excellent aquarium for beginners. You don't need to buy anything else, it has a pump, filter and everything in the kit. I mistakenly bought an additional filter and a pump which I really didn't need. Just be careful assembling the aquarium--it may take about 20 minutes, the pictures were kind of tricky. Us eyour common sense if you can't understand them. :)

It works great and after some tinkering, doesn't leak.

BIG issue and the one that cost it a star is the adapter included to attach to a sink is useless. It will pop out under the smallest amount of water pressure and lose its threading. A five dollar part from Lowe's fixed the problem. When you go to your hardware store (and you will if you buy this unit) ask for an attachment to hook up a garden hose to your faucet. Take the cheapo one with you and you can test it in the sample adapter display these places have.

If you don't have any on hand, pick up some teflon tape and redo all the seals into which the colored hoses enter. Your floor will be glad you did.

Worthwhile but requires some tinkering to get it going.

We purchased this unit to supply clean water for a 75 gallon salt tank. I didn't try to hook this up to the kitchen faucet as it was going into the basement and dumping out into a food grade trash can. The unit was easy to install and worked properly right out of the box. Although this filter is not 'graded' for food quality I had to taste it! It actually tasted good, better than bottled water and much less TDS (total dissolved solids). My brother had just purchased a RO unit for his house that hooked up to the faucet, it too was a three stage but he paid over 500 without a extra reservoir tank. He brought some of his filtered water over to my house and we compared TDS with a calibrated meter, his was 0.74 and ours tested at 0.09. He agreed that ours even tasted better but again, I don't think its rated or designed for drinking? Either way, we have been drinking from it (filling 5 gallon water jugs) for over a year now and its been the best 130 bucks we have spent. No, we don't drink out of the garbage can, I just swap out 5 gallon drinking jugs and the garbage can is used to fill the fish tank.

For those that have never used a RO unit before, just be aware that it takes about 3 gallons of tap water to make 1 gallon of clean. Not complaining just don't freak out when you get your first water bill!

We got tired of buying plastic jug after plastic jug of distilled water for our acquaria and got this instead. It may be a while before this thing pays off but at least we don't go thru a land fill worth worth of plastic jugs. It was simple to set up and works exactly as advertised. We did need to replace the washer used for the faucet attachment with a softer one, courtesy of our plumber.

Great RO unit for the price.

BUT...

I almost thought I would have to return it because I could not for the life of me find a way to attach it to a sink without a MASSIVE amount of leakage... Finally I found that it fit on the garden hose faucet.

I really wish I could attach this to one of my sinks inside, its gets really annoying to attach and un-attach the unit every time I need to make RO water.

Maybe one day I'll be able to find a piece to attach this unit to my sink without a problem. For now I'll just have to deal with trudging this thing once a week indoors and out. Good thing I don't live in a snowy place lol.

I own another Exotic Environments cobblestone piece Exotic Environments Cobblestone Castle Walls Aquarium Ornament, 10-Inch by 3-1/2-Inch by 5-1/2-Inch that is gorgeous and the colors are just as vibrant and detailed as in the photograph. Unfortunately, that isn't the case with this particular piece. The tree roots (and parts of the cobblestones) are covered in white, splattered brush marks, the cobblestones are a dull, unattractive brown, and the trees themselves are a dull greenish brown. I will keep it since my little betta loves archways, but I'm very disappointed with how the item was represented. I know the old "not all monitors show colors the same", but the other Exotic Environments items I've purchased have always looked exactly like the colors in the photographs, and the greenery shown in the photo here are the same as the green shown in other listings I've purchased from this brand. I'm guessing whoever painted mine was having a bad day, or ran out of the colors they needed and decided to wing it with what they had (which seemed to be a palette of white, brown, and a slightly greenish brown).

Snoozer-Large Lookout Dog Car Seat

I bought this car seat in anticipation of making several long road trips this fall. I wanted something comfortable and safe for my dear dog Benny, a 3-year old miniature poodle.

Hubby and I took Benny out for several one-hour trial runs over the past few weekends and Benny seems to love this seat. First of all, it boosts him up high enough so that he can comfortably look out the window (while still being safely tethered to the seat). Second, having ordered the larger model, he can stretch out and sit or sleep without being cramped. And third, and most important, is that while wearing his comfortable, stretchy Puppia harness, we can tether him to the seat belt, which secures the car seat just like a child's car seat. This gives Benny enough "give" to move from side to side in the seat, but in the event of slamming on the brakes, he'll stay secured and not end up a hood ornament (hopefully lol).

Be warned this model is BIG. I have it in the back seat (2nd row) of my SUV and it takes up half the seat. Instead of room for 3 people, there's now room for only 1. No bother. He's my only "kid".

This is my second purchase of this item and I have to say it is one of the best purchases I've ever made!! We've been using this seat in both of our cars for years and hands down the quality is excellent! The height is just right for a car or SUV, the drawer is nice for stowing potty bags, baby wipes, extra leashes,etcthere is a lot of room in the drawer. This seat will sit two small dogs just fine. The design of the seat to allow for the car seat to be belted in with the seatbelt on the vehicle is fantastic! It's obvious that serious thought went into designing that safety feature. In those moments when you have to suddenly apply your brakes, the car seat WILL stay in place if your car seatbelt is used properly to secure it in place. If you don't use your seatbelt it won't. It's no different than fastening a child car seat. It's just a matter of common sense to belt the product in. I have purchased dog seat belts from a local pet store to use with the car seat and it works perfectly to keep my dogs safe and secure. I highly recommend this care seatit WONDERFUL!!!

I have two small dogs who often travel with me in the car and who have a tendency to not sit still during the entire trip. I had previously had a dog car seat that resembled a plastic tub with foam inside and a cover on top of it. It worked for a short period of time, but due to the design of it and my dogs moving around, it always tipped over. I finally talked myself into getting a Buddy Lookout car seat, and I'm so glad I did. I have a mini-Schnoodle and a mini-labradoodle (15 lb each); they fit comfortably into the LARGE Outlook Pet Car Seat. I bought my betta a few weeks ago as a pet for college. Unsure of what container to get, or how much room I would have on my desk, I opted for this bowl.

I have been very pleased with this product. Although the bowl is smaller than I would like, my fish has grown increasingly happy and responsive the longer he has lived in it. There was enough room to place a small "fish castle" in the middle, which he absolutely loves! It gives him a wonderful place to hide, but also something to do. I also placed a few small rocks at the bottom for him to rest on, and to compliment his color.

Unfortunately, this bowl does not have a filtration system, so it requires almost daily examination/care. This is not a huge issue for me, but I can assume that it will become too much work eventually.

I plan on switching to a larger, filtered tank eventually, but for now, this bowl has been great for my happy, healthy little friend. :)

I would never use this for any of my fish. Bettas needs are too many. Heck any fishes needs are many. Filtering, heat, freshness...

I do however love this tank for raising food for my fish. Its not a bad spot for brine shrimp.

Java Fern "Large Mat" Live Aquarium Plant Microsorum pteropus

This java came in a little over grown to the point that it was growing on its own leaves. But! This was a HUGE and very healthy mat! I had so much left over I went ahead and set up another aquarium! The root was healthy nice and green! They come on a coco fiber mat that can be a little hard to tweese out but is probably best left on and then tethered to whatever you want it to grow on. Again, awesome mat, looks just like the picture only twice as big! Keep in mind too order in the cooler months to save the plant some black spots. Very very well packaged and came in great condition. Would and probably will order again :)

Exotic Environments Forgotten Ruins Aquarium Ornament

Since this is a PRODUCT review, I decided to rate it based on the product, itself. It's a very nice item, and would have looked even better in my daughter's little fish tank. I guess the reason I did not give it five stars is because the manufacturer has to take a little blame for a product that breaks so easily during shipment.

The first time I received this item, one of the back corners on the bottom was completely broken off. I decided to do an exchange. When the second one arrived, the OTHER back corner was completely shattered. These failed transactions are a combination of poor packaging (Amazon), careless handling (USPS), and bad construction (manufacturer).

I will not be taking a third chance on this product, and I really regret that my daughter will not get to enjoy it in her fish tank. If you're willing to risk the chance that it might arrive intact, I would probably recommend the product because I think that, compared to pet stores, the price of this item is very good. But if you don't have to patience to deal with products arriving damaged, I recommend going to your local pet shop and spending the extra $5 or $10 for a comparable item.

I had no problems with the castle. It was not damaged in any way. I was a little worried that it would be too big for my tank, but it fits wonderfully. The holes aren't big enough for fish that are bigger than bettas, so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it. Overall I think it's a great addition to my tank and the fish seem to like it too.

Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator

If you are looking for a dechlorinator that doesn't have other addatives in it this is the product you want. This will treat pleanty of water compared to those others that are not concentrated. When you see how little you need it is very cheap to use and it works.

I use this on the water for my hermit crabs, because the tap water here is heavily chlorinated. So far, my crabs haven't dropped dead from chlorine, and that's high praise as far as I can tell.

Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator seems to do its job adequately and fairly simply. I have never had a problem with a tank I have used this product for my primary dechlorinator. Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator does not exceed expectations so I do not believe a five star rating is warranted but I would recommend this to anyone who needs a consistent and effective dechlorinator.

The only drawback to Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator I have encountered is the measuring system on the cap isn't very useful if you like to add small amounts of dechlorinator to buckets or jugs before adding the water to your tank. The cap deals with 10 to 50 gallon quantities. From my experience, it seems about two drops will do its job for each gallon of water being mixed and treated before being added. I suppose you could buy a chlorine test before doing a water change and calculate the exact amount of drops to effectively treat each gallon of water, but for my water it seems two drops gets it done.

I have been using Kent products for over a decade for both fresh and saltwater tanks. I like Kent's professional packaging and over all consistency. Kent has yet to disappoint and Kent Marine Pro-Dechlorinator can be another product added to a very long list of other great Kent products.

I've had fish tanks in my home for more than 40 years. I tried them all. These are the best I've tried so far. Plenty of very fine bubbles for their size with little back pressure. You can extend their life a little by soaking them in a 10 to 1 mixture of water and bleach for the night. Rince well the next morning and they should be good as new. Do this only once because after that it will not revive them anymore. But at this price with Amazon Prime, you can just replace them when they start to clog.

There's nothing horribly wrong with these except that they are very small air stones. If you are looking to make a lot of bubbles, then you need to get a bigger stone.

I was satisfied with this product. the light quality is bright and crisp. i have always had florescent bulbs, and will say that this light seems superior. sufficiently bright, and good fish colors. the night light ('moon light') feature is cool too, and nice since we like to leave it on in the kitchen when we sleep, to guide us to late night snacks ;) BUT MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE YOUR FILTER! there is only ONE slot in the back and it measures approx 6.5" x 2.5" (measurements i could not find anywhere online!! so hope this helps you). my filter is 7" wide, so i had to take scissors and cut the plastic (kind of hard to do, but i was able to get it with some effort, and maybe scarified the scissors). and ONE hole means no space for a heater (unless you have a fully submersible kind, or dont care about using one, or are fine cutting more holes in the hood). i just dont use a heater, so that didnt bother me. as others mentioned having no spot to feed the fish can be annoying, but really, just lifting the lid (its hinged) is really not a big deal. overall, i considered the problems not that bothersome, and enjoy the light quality enough to ignore the annoyances.

In general I like the clarity and brightness of LED lighting, but I have to admit that I am not sure whether I can say I like it in the fish tank. My old flourescent hood provided a warmer light than this LED hood does, even though the mixing of blue LEDs in with the white was meant to tone down the light. I do like the night or "moonlight" mode which just uses the 3 blue LEDs. This offers my fish a good transitional period between day and complete dark.

At first, I really liked the low-profile look of the hood. I thought it was kind of cool that the whole hood hinged upwards when you opend it and attached directly to the tank instead of just resting on top of it. I quickly came to the conclusion that is not a very cool feature. First off the condensation on the underside of the hood races to the back and runs off. For the most part, it just goes right back into your tank but if you have an over-the-back filter, that means you now have water all over the top of your filter. Also, when you are opening the hood to feed your fish, it drips all over the place. The first time I fed my fish, I had the open food container in the same hand I used to partially prop open the hood and had a bunch of water drip into the container. That really pissed me off considering a small container of food is $12 and I couldn't salvage much. It is just poor design planning.

Also important to note about condensation is if you have hard water in the least bit, you will get deposits on not only the underside of the hood, but the light lens, and possibly the OTB filter. Add to the fact that the light lens is plastic so you cannot scrub hard-water off of it without scratching the hell out of the plastic lens and you have longevity issues. Even if you don't have very hard water, over time you will get deposits, it is just a fact of life in the aquarium hobby. Condensation management for this hood just plain sucks. Maybe if you live in an area where the humidity is very high and you don't condition the air in your house you will not have the kind of condensation issues I am having.

I also don't like the light coverage inside the tank. The edges of the tank are not lit up as they would be with a flourescent bulb spanning the entire length of the tank. Add to this that when you open the hood, the LEDs move away from the water and shine in your face. This design oversight means there is no way to make changes to the tank's contents and see how they look as you make the changes if you are trying to set it up for display. Instead, you have to remove your arm and close the lid to get the visual. As I was changing the tank contents around to make it look the best under the new lighting conditions, this became a pain. I suppose it is a one-time issue.

Also, the break-away/cut-away section on the hood for OTB filter and cords, etc.. seems to be opposite of my previous hoods. I had to completely rearrange the contents of my tank so that I could move the heater and filter and other accessories to take advantage of this hoods setup. I was not a happy camper! I spent a lot of time getting my tak the way I liked it and then had to try and mimic that in a mirrored version to make this hood work. (That should have been my clue to send it back, but I pressed on...)

Finally, there is no way to open the hood in increments. It is either fully open or closed. This means that when doing maintenance, you have to have no lighting in the tank because the LEDs are staring you in the face. I know, just turn them off but then you have to turn them back on and close the lid to see if what you were doing is actually complete.

In summary, I was not impressed. I think with more effort in the design department and more commitment by the manufacturer to develop something that helps to showcase the contents of an aquarium as well as lnot inhibit the ability to maintain the tank, LED lighting has the potnetial to take the hobby by storm. Right now, though, the only bragging rights this product has in my opinion are "First to Market". I would wait before making an LED hood purchase.

I'm thrilled with the Marineland LED Aquarium Hood 20 by 10; I bought it as a part of an aquarium set up, a birthday present for my son, who just turned eight years old.

Are the LEDs going to be bright enough?

I think I read a review that said they weren't. Well, I'm quite picky about lighting, so I bought an extra red LED light as a part of a decor feature Hydor Ario Red Volcano Kit (Med)as an extra security: if the brightness of the LEDs was really not up-to-par, at least I would have a secondary light source.

Well, I was happily surprised when I turned on the hood light, which exceeded my expectations in brightness. The white lights are so true and pure and bright. The white light makes each color very clear and bright in the tank. The white light setting is actually too bright for night (I have the tank facing my son's bed).

All LEDs are not created equal, that is for sure. Previously, I purchased a small cylindrical aquarium for my desk; it had LED lights, but they were barely bright enough to fill the tank and barely make enough light to even use as a nightlight.

These lights are quite bright; fine LEDs, no need to worry about that one.

The blue moonlight setting is so unbelievably beautiful for night! I put it on for a soothing nightlight for my son to sleep by. Furthermore, I think it soothes the fish to have blue light at night, too. They need a break from the light, just like they would at night in their natural setting in the wild.

If you haven't switched your tanks to LED lights please note that not only are the lights more beautiful than incandescent, which always seem to have a bit of yellow to them (NOT a good thing when it comes to aquarium lighting) they are also energy hogs. LEDs are low-watt wonders: they produce beautiful, bright light (if built right) and use very little energy, which pays you in the long run. Plus, and this is a BIG PLUS, they don't give off heat, which means far less algae. I mean, CONSIDERABLY LESS.

I only had to change my small LED lit tank ONE time in six months and the water was crystal clear when I changed it. Really. That is a far cry from the old incandescent ones that seem to cloud up every time you turn around. That means CONSIDERABLY less work and more enjoyment from this product.

Combined with the volcano red LED Hydor Ario Red Volcano Kit (Med)decor and the thrilling Sea Serpent decoration, my son now has a unique, gorgeous and fascinating tank to view before he dozes off at night.

The white LED lights are bright and illuminate the aquarium nicely. The clips fit securely to the aquarium frame and the hinges on the hood snap into the clips. The hood fit nicely into the frame of our 10-gallon aquarium. The handle on the front is easy to grasp and there is a removable piece near it you can take out so you can have a small opening in the hood (about 1" by 2") if you want for easy feeding without opening the hood.

The cutout opening in the back has plenty of room for our Fluval C2 power filter, both when the hood is closed and when it is open.

The LED unit itself is a separate module that snaps into the top of the hood. The switch is on the top of the LED unit slide it all the way to the left for the white day light, all the way to the right for the blue light and to the center if you want to turn it off.

We are very pleased with this hood/light.

I own two 29 gallon aquariums (30x18x12)and had been using a flat glass versa top and putting a standard strip light that you could pick up from Wal-Mart for under $10 as lighting. I replaced the standard 24 inch bulb in the light strips with Aqueon T-8 Full Spectrum Daylight Fluorescent Lamp bulbs. I used this approach because I was worried about evaporation and glass versa tops hold in water pretty well. This hood does a comparable job, perhaps allows a bit more evaporation. I purchased one of these hoods and instantly decided to purchase another after seeing the difference in lighting.

My 29 gallon aquariums houses juv. African cichlids of various species ranging from dwarf Mbuna to piscivore Haps and these LED lights really pulls out their color. I had to cut out more room in the back of the hood to allow for more "hang on the back" filters because my aquariums are, from a technical standpoint, "overstocked".

LED lighting is in my opinion much better than the Aqueon T-8 Full Spectrum Daylight Fluorescent Lamp bulbs that I had been previously using. These LEDs enhance the blues and yellows of my African cichlids great and produce a clean looking white light that I think looks more natural. That being said, you can purchase some absolutely amazing aquarium specific light bulbs that specialize in various things such as plant growth or specific color enhancement.

It is super fine, almost dust like. It would really only be suited for small fish, like what I mentioned. It is hard to come by in stores anymore, it seems discontinued in most places.

I own 7 pet turtles. I have two red-eared sliders, four mud turtles and one map turtle. I use the Whisper 40i filters in all my turtle tanks. After trying several different types of filters (ie Zoo Med 501 and Reptofilter) for my turtle tanks, I have found that these work the best and are the easiest to use.

First of all, they do keep the water clean as long as you change the filter media regularly. How often it needs to be changed depends on the type of animal, or in my case turtle, that you own. It also depends on the amount of water in your habitat and other factors. The replacement media is fast to change and more inexpensive than the replacements for other turtle filters I've used.

The filter can be either hung on the side of the tank or completely suction cupped to the side. For functionality, I have found that tanks with shallow water do better with the filter sitting on the bottom of the tank and attached to the wall. Also, pets that are more likely to knock the filter down should have it attached to the wall instead of hung. When it falls in the water, the tank can become very dirty within a matter of hours. My sliders kept knocking one in the water and now the motor does not seem to work as well as it once did.

Make sure that your tank will have at least 4 inches of water in it or this filter will not work for you.

Overall, a solid product!

Had to buy 2 of these within 2 years, they don't hold up long enough for the price you have to pay, motor quit, it should last longer than what it does.

Purchased 2 units--One each for 30gal. & 20gal. tank. No problem getting oversized units. Only problem occurs when mounting in tank where water level is at top. Used a small piece of wood to mount properly; however, as filter accumulates material, the filter starts to splatter some water. The 40i should have been designed with a cover to prevent this. I have simply placed a small refrigerator storage container over the filter top, and this seems to be the effective solution. Note that the filter is extremely quiet. I am continuing the use of air pumps in those aquaria.

These pumps appear to work, but they make more noise than my hang-on-back filters.

I put two of these in two side-by-side 20 gallon aquariums. They are in my bedroom and at night, as well as day, I can hear the water gurgling. I fixed the problem by bending the filter cartridge back a little to overlap the water hole. That silenced them enough to live with. They still hum fairly loudly. I may sell one and get another Top-Fin 30 and keep the other as an emergency backup. I won't be buying any more.

I bought this filter to go into a turtle tank. The design suggested that it would be suitable for this application. I have also had good experiences with other Whisper filters I've owned in the past. I have not been putting up with it for about 1.5-2 months. I loath this filther. First, the suctions cups don't stay on so the filter continuously falls into the tank. There should also be at least 4 suction cups. Having 2 placed in the center of the filter means it rocks back and forth and is not secure. Second, the bracket you can use in place of the top suction cup doesn't fit on the lip of my tank. So again, it keeps falling into the tank. If I can't return it because it's been used I may actually just throw it away. If you're looking for a good internal filter check out Ovation or Fluval. Don't waste your money on this one.
