Zoo Med Floating Dock Mini for 5 Gallon Tanks
Turtle liked ability to get out of water. Self-leveling feature kept dock level with water changes.
The Bad:
Dock tended to grow greenish algae that stained. Attempts to wash helped somewhat, but high effort. Dock had a finish on the bottom that came off in chunks. Turtle decided he preferred the dock to his turtle bone for gnawing purposes, leaving chunks of plasticky (is that a word?) crap floating around the tank. I can't imagine that is healthy for him.
Musings: Get a big flat rock that slopes. It looks better, your turtle will like it better, the finish won't come off, and any rocky field is a potential source. It will also retain the heat from a heat lamp, leading to praise from your turtle! This Zoo Med floating turtle dock is a very nice and realistic looking addition to our "turtle-quarium". It's well made and looks like a real piece of driftwood or rock in a river bed. Our turtle loves it and there is enough room on it for him to turn any way he wants for "sunning/basking" himself.

New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250g
Buy New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250g Now
My cory catfish were losing all of their fins and no matter what I did and no matter where I put them, their fins would not grow back. Finally I met a friend who told me to try the New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers so I did. This package is very big with lots of wafers,. I didn't expect to have to use them quickly, but boy was I surprised! My cory catfish fell so in love with these that the line up every morning and can not wait to eat them. They gobble them right up and after only a few weeks, their fins have grown back after a whole year of nothing at all! I thought I was feeding them well with Omega One and other brands of wafers, but never did I have these kind of results.
They are so good that my cat tries to eat them too! He tries to knock open the container and cries to have some!
My cory catfish have very large whiskers again and are only missing a few fins between all of them now instead of all missing all fins. This is VERY exciting news.
And in the other tanks, the plecos wait to eat them and the little fish will all take turns pecking at these wafers until they are gone. I have to split them in half for one tank because the plecos will fight over them if I don't. There is not a fish I have that does not to nuts for these wafers. It cuts way down on food that I have to purchase as all of the fish can and will eat them and their coloring has deepened greatly. They are also much healthier than with any other food I have used in the pastand I have used quite a few brands.

I have been using algae wafers in my fish feeding routine for 15 or so years. I have found a little algae is typically very healthy for the fish not to mention the fish enjoy the tablets tremendously. New Life Spectrum is the brand I primarily buy from and the algae wafers are no exception. I trust New Life Spectrum and will continue to buy their products until I am given a reason to switch. The wafers are a bit thicker than many of the wafers I have used in the past. The thickness makes the wafer harder to break apart but easier to keep whole when the wafer begins to soften in the tank. Both the omnivores and carnivores in my tank will greedily accept the wafers without prejudice. My current tank has some big cichlids and catfish and I have proudly watched them grow to almost unmanageable sizes. The New Life Spectrum Algae wafer has a good balance of nutrients and fish love to eat them, as long as those two criteria are met, I am going to use this product.
Pros: Nice nutritional balance, stable, appetizing to fish, great sinking ability
Cons: More expensive than other wafers, harder to break apart or crumble

Tetra LED Half Moon, Betta Kit, 1.1-Gallon
Word to the wise, Bettas should be kept in at least 2.5 gallon tanks with a gentle filtration system if you value their health. If they are kept in still water 1 gallon tanks, changing their water at least twice a week is suggested because chemicals created by waste and left over food can contaminate the tank, especially in such a small area.
I bought a 1 pound bag of decorative gravel which managed to just barely cover the bottom of the tank as well as the bumps protruding from the bottom to accommodate the LED lights.
In conclusion: The title is a bit misleading because I don't think it qualifies as a "kit" because it only includes the tank itself and lights. If you want a true kit, look for ones that come with a filter, lighting, and possibly gravel and/or other accoutrements. This tank is a great size and visually pleasant, however the led lights went out and started flickering after a few days of use. I liked that it wasn't super small...with some live plants it looks very nice.

Let me tell you some things i've learned over the years..1. My Crowntail Betta is in a 1 gallon & hated anything bigger than that..
2. My Sons' Double Tail Betta is in a 2 gallon tank and loves the room he has..
3. My daughter has her Betta in a 3 Gallon tank and he hated the open space as well..
4. Back in the day i had a Betta that was in a 10 Gallon tank with guppies & tetras and he loved it and lived to be about 5 yrs old.
So really it depends on the fish, either they'll like the small space or they won't.. my experience has been about 50-50.
This tank is similar to my daughters' minus the light. So i'd think a Betta would be happier in this tank, with a small sponge filter & low temp heater added perhaps..

I bought this tank at Petco for my crowntail male betta. He got nervous in larger spaces, but seemed to enjoy being in here with a tall leafy plant in one corner for hiding spots. However there is an opening in the tank lid large enough for a betta to jump through. I noticed this from the beginning and tried to block it off with leaves just below the water. This worked for five months; he paid no attention to the gap. Then one day he managed to get past the leaves and jumped out of the tank while I was at work. By the time I got home it was too late to rescue him.
Bettas are big time jumpers. If you buy this tank, make sure you block off the opening, perhaps with plastic mesh, so you have enough fresh air, but your little friend is safe.

The last time I saw moonlight it wasn't so blue. These LEDs are DARK BLUE. In my mind moonlight blue is a hint of blue, I could be wrong and a soft light. If you want a blue tank and insufficient, light then these will do the job. If you want to see the fish then I wouldn't recommend this tank light. Another thing. Buyer beware, this light fixture has a serious design flaw. The manufacturer states that it is a 48" fixture, but they don't mention that the power supply plugs into the end of the fixture. This makes the overall length of the lighting fixture more than 49 ", too long to fit in an enclosed canopy! If you have any type of enclosed canopy on your 48" aquarium this lighting fixture will not fit!!! I. Had to go to RadioShack and buy a replacement power supply, one with an elbow connector, in order to fit the fixture inside the canopy.Sunday, June 22, 2014
TOM Aquarium Deco Kit - 3gal Aquarium Kit - PC Lighting & Filter
Additional Equiptment Needed: Replacement filter cartridges are $10 for a 3 pack sold on Amazon TOM TM1277 Aquarium Filter Cartridge 3 pack fits Rapids Power Filter PF-80. The manual suggests you replace them every 2-4 weeks depending on fish population and it only comes with one. So you should order extra along with a heater. I purchased the Elite Submersible Preset Heater Mini, 25-Watt for appx $15 from Amazon. Fits well with the lid cutouts, it has adjustable temperature and seems to maintain a stable temp. I bought a $3 thermometer at local pet store to gauge this.
The instructions are not great, especially as this is my 1st tank. The filter came with seperate instructions from the tank and they conflict with eachother. Once I set them aside and used common sense, it was fairly simple.
Be prepared for the massive and unsightly plugs. I placed the tank on the kitchen counter and stuffed all the chords and plugs behind the fridge using a power strip. Have a good place in mind to put this where you can hide all that unless that sort of thing doesnt bother you.
Also, I agree with another reviewer about the filter just awkwardly hanging at a tilt off the tank, as if it doesnt belong there. The lid cutouts give you the option to the hang it on the back or the side. I hung it on the back and you cannot tell.
Having said all that, let me say that it is a beautiful little tank! This was an upgrade for my betta, I foolishly had him in a 2 gallon bowl prior with no heater and he was not doing so well. He is much more active and interactive. So I do have some gripes, but for the price this really is a great set up.
The lid keeps the cat out of the water. It is truly lovely and a pleasure to sit & watch. I have been planning for a 150 gal saltwater tank in the next 2-3 years and this is a fun way to get started in the hobby for very little money.
SEE MY PHOTOS :-)I ordered this tank for my Betta fish after reading up on what type of conditions Betta fish need to thrive. It's very beautiful and easy to set up and clean. It does not come with a heater, however, so I had to order that extra. Betta's prefer water that's in the 75-80 degree range, so a heater and a thermometer are necessities! The light is gorgeous and really sets off the room.

This is a great little fish tank for my male Betta. Along with it I purchased a heater, a thermometer, and a green leaf hammock. Then I went to Petco and spent sixty more dollars on gravel, a live plant, silk plants, water conditioner, and various other things to make Chollie comfortable and his new home attractive. He is one happy aquatic camper!Don't believe anyone who tells you Bettas are content in a very small container. How would you like to spend your life in a plastic or glass closet? The bigger the tank, the better for the Betta. And yes, they do require a water filter and heater.
I have it set up beside my computer and the great lighting on the top of the tank is enough to light my keyboard in the evening. The filter is noiseless and unobtrusive placed in the back of the tank.
Highly recommend (and so does Chollie)!

I purchased this aquarium mainly for the "appearance" it does look really neat.Pros:
Easy to set up
Effective filter keeps tank very clean
Appearance it looks very nice and has a bright light.
Cons:
The plastic lid has perforated cut outs for allowing space for the filter and light. The pieces are EXTREMELY difficult to break apart and the lid cracked in the process. I followed up with company regarding this fact and have received no response.
The filter motor does have an audible hum and slight vibration. The "Eclipse" system I had made no noise at all.

The red led's add a nice effect during sunrise and sunset.
This lights up my 5.5g very brightly.
I recently moved a blue and red fuzzy mushroom from my all sps tank and it is doing very well, seemingly preferring this light output over my intense sps tanks' lighting.
Three switches work perfectly and this fits snuggly to the rim of the tank.

AG 2.5 GAL MINI BOW KIT-BLUE
The filter is large and takes up about 15-20% of the tank, so the one of the bettas is more cramped than the other (I will eventually upgrade the filter). Also, when the filter was on "high", it created too much current/water flow and it sucked up their food before they had a chance to eat it the "medium" setting seems to work fine.
**** Important *** If you need to use the divider, you have to be careful about moving/handling the tank a small amount of pressure on the tank distorts its shape enough to move the placement of the divider. This is an easy problem to fix you can see if the divider has moved out of its groove at the top and you can slide it back. But when I switched the filter from high to medium, I apparently handled the tank enough to move the divider out of place, so there was a small space in the front (the bow shape contributes to this problem)*** Here's the funny part, when I lowered the filter rate, I also switched the slightly larger betta to the side of tank without the filter and the smaller one to the filter side. The next morning they had switched themselves back! My husband was so freaked out he woke me up. We thought they had jumped to the other sides, but then we saw the blue Betta slip between the front of the tank and the divider to the other side. I panicked because I thought they were going to fight before I moved the one back, but they didn't. And when they switched sides, they had to have crossed paths, but they don't appear to have fought. If I didn't know better, I'd say they've gotten downright chummy. So just check the divider when you clean or move the tank.

I have 3 zebra danos and some live plants in my tank, and have had it set-up since June 2007. I removed the filter it came with since it took up 1/5 of the aquarium space, but if you have fish that love to poo, you might want to leave it in there. Instead I use a Red Sea nano filter (with another manufacturer's carbon filter) and it keeps the tank sparkling.Change the water once a week (about half of it) and don't over feed your fishies and the tank will be perfect. My main issue is this that is comes with a filter that is too big for the tank and the hood will not go on properly. Any sort of of fish that jumps could be in danger in this tank due to a small opening in the back. I've only had this tank for a few weeks but I definately will buy a new, smaller filter soon, other wise the fish I keep in there are fine and the tank is adequate for a few small fish.I bought this aquarium for my betta and I just love it. It is very cute, and the light provides the perfect temperature 76 degrees of water. My betta really loves it too. I've never seen him so active! He has the perfect amount of space in the right temperature water, and the filter is quiet and works very well. My only complaint is that the top of the aquarium (lid) is not the best quality. It also says it's suitable for two betta fish, with a divider that you can use to separate them. However, split in two, the space is very limited for the fish to swim, so really this is a one-betta tank. Don't get it for two bettas. I do recommend it though. Super low maintenance, great price, and your betta or other fish will be very happy!

Exo Terra Allglass Terrarium
PROS: My pacman frog has called this terrarium home for about 2 years now. It is very beautiful and alluring. The terrarium is made very well and the glass doors are very convenient. Decorating the terrarium is actually kind of fun. At first I thought it would be a pain but you can make it look however you want and there are a lot of possibilities. My friends are always checking on my frog and what I have done with his tank this week. It looks more expensive than it is. Live plants make great decorations and add to the fun!! The terrarium holds heat well and is elevated so you can put a heater under it. This Terrarium is semi child proof as the doors lock and most people can't figure out how to open it LOL.
CONS: The top screen has places for you to put cords through such as a fogger or water pump. The only problem I have had is that if you feed your pet crickets they may escape through the cord areas but the problem is easily solved by rotating the screen so the slots are at the front of the tank. This presents a problem if you want crickets AND cords but the Exo Terra fogger is a rip off so if you get it make sure you keep your receipt for the day that you tired of it.
I would suggest getting the Exo terra light for the tank as it snaps into place and fits nicely. I thought I would need a heater but the light keeps the tank warm enough (for my specific demands). FYI my light housing (not ordered form Amazon) did not come with a bulb so keep an eye out for that you might have to buy one.
Make sure that if you get this you clean it a lot. I clean mine at least once a week. If you let it get too dirty gnats fit right through the screen and will invade! Plus keeping it clean will keep you and your pet happier and healthier. My primary motivation for buying THIS cage:
I bought one of these recently after MUCH looking around for cages that open from the front, a feature that I have since found VERY nice for a larger cage. There are a number of solutions out there, including some very nice ones from glasscages dot com. but I settled on this cage over some higher quality options because the doors are hinged, rather than sliding (most other cages you will find on-line have sliding doors which might trap insects, sand, or even perhaps in some freak event catch the leg of your pet, in my opinion).
That said, many of my comments that follow match pretty well to what has already been said about this cage:
The Pros:
1) Hinged front doors, rather than sliding doors, avoid things being trapped in the door guides or between doors. Definately a NICE feature.
2) Vents below doors provide air flow. Nice touch.
3) Glass construction for all the see-through parts.
4) Screen has holes for cords or tubing to pass throughnice for pumps, lamps, heated rocks etc..
5) Looks NICE
Overall, I do like the cage... it is really a nice looker, and it operates "well enough" ... but there are of course...
The cons:
1) The door latch!! You either WILL break it, or always fear you will break it. Why Exo Terra didn't simply use the latch of their smaller cages on this one I don't know!
2) Plastic above the doors needs further reinforcement.. it flexes and could be easily damaged. Just be wary of it. I have to train myself not to want to rest my arm
on the cage rim when feeding crickets or transferring objects into/out of the cage.
3) Not sure if the hinges themselves are plastic, I am going to wager they are... again, be careful with it, and you'll be fine.
4) If you feed your reptile live things.. I STRONGLY suggest you do NOT put the Styrofoam background in the cage (I put mine behind the cage). It has channels
(for electrical cables or tubes) that will allow the insects to crawl up and out of the cage if you are not careful. At a minimum, they will hide in it.
You may elect to try to turn it upside down so that the hole at the bottom is at the top instead, but I suspect that crickets can climb the Styrofoam without
Difficulty and possibly escape next time you open the cage top should you elect to do so.
5) The screen is fine mesh, and doesn't transmit light very well. A top with built in light is probably in order. I will probably make my own top for it.
Other Notes:
1) I suggest fully cleaning out/sterilizing the cage, and looking for crumbs of Styrofoam and silicone sealant that were left from manufacture and the background.
2) Careful when lifting it.. its a bit heavy, and because of the weaknesses of having the doors there instead of glass, it'd be best to have help lifting it.
This cage could easily be a 5 star item if just a few minor things were addressed in terms of quality. I really like it functionally and aesthetically!

I bought the 36x18x18 for my python. I was excited to have more creative access (side doors), and improve the airflow from my previous setup. The raised bottom allows for a variety of substrate heaters and still has a bit over 1/2 inch clearance. I have a constant heater running and have not had any problems with the wood stand underneath getting hot. The bottom section with air venting seems to be great for reptilian setups. The bottom is strong and sturdy, while the top is a bit weaker. It's almost like two different manufacturers from bottom to top.The doors are a great touch, but that is where my problems started. The bottom of the doors latch firmly in place with a twist lock. This feature is fantastic. The top of the doors somewhat stay in place with a magnet. This is not so great. Currently, I'm not worried about my snake getting out, but I was shocked to see how easy it was to push open a gap with my finger at the top.
The framing at the top of the setup is also very flimsy. I don't expect to have to move the setup, but if I did, I would be concerned about the top frame. The screen on top is a wash. I have seen better, I have seen worse. I will say that the locks for securing the top mesh are great and work splendidly. There no way that anything I would consider having as a pet would get through those.
The "picture" in the back of the setup is underrated. With sliding ports on the top cage to allow for wiring, and hollowed out sections in the picture, it's a great way to run wired components into the terrarium. I don't currently have anything wired in, but the option is great.
Overall, I would say this is an excellent setup. The smart design and robust base more than made up for the flimsiness on top. I might be concerned with powerful / aggressive reptiles and the top corners of the doors, but for anything else, it seems perfect. I would buy another in an instant.
PROS:
Price is actually reasonable for what you get.
Sturdy bottom, with elevated base for heating and wiring.
Ventilation is great.
Variable dimensions really let you customize, and it can be hard to find affordable wide terrariums that aren't junk
CONS:
Flimsy top frame (may not really affect anything in many setups, does not effect integrity as far as pets getting out, for example)
Flimsy top corners of doors (again may not be a concern with most pets)
OVERALL:
Would buy again and recommend to anyone
SHIPPING:
Not a hit on the product, but I really wish I knew what companies were going to deliver my product before I click complete. The shipping was the worst experience ever. They said they called to schedule a time, but I had no message. I got the email from Amazon that they were trying to reach me, so I called on Saturday. The corporate office gave me a local number to call, and the person who answered said they did not schedule deliveries on Saturdays and that the office was closed (I don't think I've ever talked to a live human working in a closed office before). I called back on Monday and was given the option to receive the deliver on a Saturday (which makes it even more odd that the office is closed then). I opted for the weekday instead and got a delivery window of 11am-5pm. Guess I am taking the day off from work to work around the plumbers hours... Then they came and dropped off my terrarium and both glass doors were broken. This may not be CEVA's fault but by this point they were my scapegoat for the whole debacle...
Anyway, Amazon was great, the lady I talked to was very nice and my doors are en route.
If I ever find out that my only shipping option is CEVA, I will probably not purchase the product.

After 2+ years of providing a home for a very spoiled reptile, this Exo-Terra Allglass Terrarium has worked very well. We bought ours for under 300 dollars at a local pet store. There really is not many other options for this size of terrarium that we could find. Overall, I would buy another one if we had the need. There are some design flaws that are not too big to avoid this unit. PROs #1 Well built. #2 An established company. #3 Front opening doorseasy access for cleaning and feeding of critters. #4 Good ventilation from front via the top. #5 Very easy for the wife to clean with front door access. #6 24 inch height is great for certain reptilesmost like too climb. #7 Did I mention it is easy for the wife to clean? #8 The Reptile loves the room and the ability to climb for all his heat requirements. Cons #1 Background sucks! After all the good design and $300 later, they use styrofoam as a background?! It is a joke. Our reptile quickly dislodged the horribly painted background in under 12 months. The paint job was very unnatural as well. It looked like a half blind chimp that has never seen a rock formation rattle canned it. They should have used cork? #2 The top screen is weak. The support is made of plastic that reacts to heat too well....I corrected this gross engineering oversight by using a steel rod to support the screen. I admit I was not using their light hood. However, it is still poorly designed considering the cost (but an easy fix). #3 The door lock could "feel" stronger?it has not broke after 2+ years. No leaks, no escapes, no regrets. I would suggest this unit, even for a Gorn.Want Exo Terra Allglass Terrarium Discount?
Great product. I have several (16) Exo Terra glass terrariums of all different sizes and have been using them since they hit the market a few years ago. Overall they are a great tank for most reptiles. I have used them for both desert and rain-forest setups and they perform admirably for both. The dual door design is super convenient for routine maintenance and feeding, it also helps contain quick animals looking to escape while your feeding. I have had no condensation issues even in very humid setups (many of my tanks are equipped with misting heads).Pros:
1. Cost (if you consider/utilize the many built in features)
2. Durability, my oldest tanks are about 3 years old and have held up well. The one exception is the old screen top securing tab design (see Other notes below).
3. Resevour size, I use a false bottom design in all my rain forest tanks and still have enough room for bedding materials and live plants.
4. Cord ports, i have two tanks with water filters running and the built in power cord ports work well.
5. Elevated feet, i use heat mats on certain tanks and the elevated feet keep the weight off the heat tape (weight on the heat tape can cause problems)
Cons:
1. Back ground durability/function. I don't mind how the back grounds look...ok maybe they look a little cheap, but functionally speaking they are poor. Crickets climb them and escape or get behind them and hide. even if you block off the ports there is still a small ledge that is created between the screen top and the background that crickets love and never come down from, reptiles that can't climb won't be able to reach/eat them. If you routinely clean the Styrofoam, it will quickly fade, wear, and fall apart. I guess if you don't feed insects and wash them gently they may work well for a while. However, Mine get thrown out with the box it arrived in.
2. Cord port and sliding port cover still leaves a small gap in the back of the tank. Smaller crickets and reptiles are able to escape. I keep the cord port covers closed and silicone the gap behind the sliding cover to eliminate any escape routes.
3. I have had some corrosion of the wire mesh screen tops, mostly in my humid setups. The screen looks easy enough to replace if and when they wear out.
4. Smaller tank sizes don't have adequate room to properly light an enclosure for reptiles/plants needing UVB/basking lamp/full spectrum lighting. (new dual light hood options from Exo-Terra are on the market which may help solve this problem for small tanks, but not the nano tanks. Plus they seem very pricey yet Exo Terra Dual Top 24-Inch Canopy for Exo Terra Terrariums PT2610 and PT2612).
Other:
1. The newest Exo-Terra tank design utilizes a new fastening design for the screen tops, so far i have not had a problem with the new design and it seems to be a positive improvement. The old screen tops were held in place with plastic push tabs which would fatigue and break if seeing even limited use.
2. The frame is all plastic and doesn't seem particularly strong. I keep waiting for it to snap or crack when i'm cleaning or moving them, but they haven't yet...

Paw Seasons Extending Pet Gate
The closing mechanism is slightly difficult because it requires you to lift the somewhat heavy gate up a bit and then set the end bar down into the groove on top of the opposite wall mount. The gate is attached to the fixed side by sturdy metal springs which provides the required "give" to lift the gate. However I think this simple approach will last longer than other designs, especially as the gate is made of metal. Time will tell!
