pH Meter SMS120 w/Alert

pH Meter SMS120 w/AlertI bought this pH meter about 3 years ago along with a Co2 pro system for my planted aquarium. I calibrate it very infrequently, and even given that, it does a terrific job of regulating my Co2 to keep my pH where I want it and the plants thriving.

Truthfully, all I ever bother to do is look at the display to see where the pH is, I make sure the Co2 canister isn't empty, and take a peek at the bubble counter. If you use a timer to turn off the solenoid when the aquarium lights go off you'll have a fully automated Co2 system for your plants and it's a dream! I'm disabled and very limited in what I can do. Anything that makes life easier, even if only a little, helps a lot so I automate everything. I've found that calibrating my probe two to four times a year with the General Hydroponics Ph 4.01 & Ph 7.0 Calibration Solution Kit (also on Amazon) works perfectly. I just put a little of each solution in a couple of fresh ziplocks. It'll take ages to run out of solution and my PH probe stays accurate.

Make sure to keep the instructions, even if you just put it in a little bag and tape it to the back of the meter. You'll want to have it handy each time you calibrate.

I can't say this about most of my aquarium equipment, but if my pH meter ever dies I'll get another exact same one right away.

Works great but looks nothing like the picture mine is beige in color and shaped differently but who cares the green is kinda ugly..

Buy pH Meter SMS120 w/Alert Now

i like the device, but it was upsetting not to have both testing solutions for calibration. it only comes with the ph 7 and is missing the ph 4 solution.

AquaClear Intake Stem for 30/50 Power Filters

AquaClear Intake Stem for 30/50 Power FiltersThe shape of this piece makes it hard to clean (and this is my only gripe about the otherwise excellent AquaClear Filters). The bottom of the "U" tube of my filter had become coated in slime so I placed it in boiling water hoping the slime would dissolve/cook away, instead I melted the tube and it got deformed and didn't fit in the filter any longer.

This is a great, inexpensive replacement for it. No need to run and buy a whole new filter, as is common with so many appliances these days (or the price of the spare part is so high you may as well buy a new unit). I am glad Amazon stocks the parts. Got it delivered in 2 days with Prime shipping.

Fluval Flora Aquatic Plant Kit, 7.9-gallon

Fluval Flora Aquatic Plant Kit, 7.9-gallonDangling the promise of being able cultivate beautiful aquarium plants with an all in one system, The Fluval Flora is designed to attract many buyers but fails to deliver on almost all of its key components.

The best thing about the fluval flora is the aquarium itself. Made with quality glass, the aquarium is attractive, comes with a pad and can be placed on most desktop environments easily and attractively. I would have prererred a pure cube shape, allowing for more depth in the aquascape design but overall the aquarium itself is fine.

Everything else is a false economy. The 13 watt lamp that comes with the system is in itself, fine. However a lamp providing less than less than 2 watts a gallon limits your choice of plants to a much greater degree than the included care guide suggests.

The mini pressurized CO2 system is also fine as a stand alone product but does a low wattage system like the Fluval Floral really need a CO2 system when the lighting component can only accomodate low light plants that photosynthesize at such a slow rate as to normally do better without CO2?

Hagen needs to upgrade the lighting or just elimanate the CO2 feature to make sense here. I suspect the market research shows that aquarists are eager to get into CO2, but are wary of pressurized systems that seem somewhat dangerous to the average user. Hagen capitalizes on this desire but doesn't deliver a lighting system of sufficient intensity to make the CO2 make sense.

The other issue I have is with the substrate. Stratum is a quality substrate but the system comes with a 4 lb bag and it should come with twice that amount.

To my mind the worst component of this entire box is the internal filter which has the dubious distinction of not only being a craptastic filter but adds insult to injury by taking up a considerable amount of real estate on the aquarium floor giving the effect of seven foot sectional couch in a studio apratment.

What Hagen could have done and could still do [-before judgement day is upon us ] is design a system friendly version of their incredible, peerless, stupendous, best of its kind AQUACLEAR filter specifically designed for this kit. Aquaclear already has the virtue of creating very little surface disturbance anyway, certainly not as much as that ridiculous "spray bar"

Anyway, I don't like the filter.

In short for this system to do what it promises, the aquarist would need to buy AT MINIMUM an additional lamp and an additional bag of substrate. Not to mention being willing to learn about balancing water parameters that are inherently much less stable with a high tech system. In other words high tech components, like intense lighting and CO2, not properly managed can throw an initially lovely aquarium into a dismal algae ridden mess quicker than you can say "Fluval Flora"

The tank itself is truly nice with rounded corners and clear glass. The aquarium kit is perfect for any desk or person who is looking for a planted aquarium. There are some debate as to whether this tank can sustain plants but the lighting system while can be improved, is still good enough for lower light plants. The substrate is alittle fine for my taste but is a good start for growing roots. The CO2 system is again something to be improved but still effective for this application. Im really impressed on how the aquarium kit is but it does have some flaws.

My aquarium arrived damaged on arrival. I believe Amazon or whoever ships this product needs to step up their game. Im not the only one who has received this tank and the glass is broken. The kit has alot of promise if it was shipped correctly.

This is a great tank for people new to planted tanks or those who want something different. The light is perfect for growing med to low light plants.Filter works great its a little big for the tank but your plants will hide it.The substrate is good i mixed it with Floramax for more planting depth.Co2 system is also good .This is a good buy for a planted tank setup.

I will be the first to admit that I was very uneasy with all the bad reviews this was getting on Amazon and off..but I've been 100% satisfied so far with everything except the Co2 unit included (as I've yet to try it out yet). If this works at all, it will be an added bonus in my opinion, as the rest of the kit is well worth the price I payed. The item arrived in perfect condition, not a scratch on the tank, not a piece of broken glass, nothing! Trust me, after reading the other reviews on here I was just holding my breath that everything arrived intact and would work. Well I'm happy to report that everything works just fine...filter works(albeit it a tad noisy at times but it could be just a matter of readjusting it), light works perfectly, and setup is a breeze. My only complaint is that in order to attach the cheesylooking, styrofoam background to the back of the tank, they apply some type of aquarium safe adhesive to the glass. This background piece comes loosely attached, but I just to remove it as I wanted the extra space. The aquarium adhesive is an annoyance to remove, but comes off relatively easily (I used an algae scraper blade, along with warm water and got it clean in no time). The plant stratum included works great too, it makes it super easy to plant stem plants especially. Not sure if the 4.4 ounces bag is really enough to make a deep substrate bed, so I would suggest purchasing one additional 4.4 ounce bag as I did afterward (I've only added half of the second bag). Also, at the suggestion of reviewers off of Amazon I purchased a second Fluval mini compact lamp. If you really are trying to stick to a budget though, I'm sure you could get by just fine with what's included in the kit, but I always tend to go the extra mile to ensure better success. A nice bonus is the cool pair of aquatic tongs they give you as I've already put them to use and they really do come in handy! Hope this review helps those of you who may be on the fence, and to serve as a positive counterbalance to the terrible reviews a couple of shall we say, unhappy Amazon customers? lol A final bottom line recap: excellent buy for the price, you will not be disappointed with this purchase if everything arrives in great condition as they did with my product. Only drawback is the background piece that comes loosely attached to the back of the tank (this can be easily addressed in accordance to one's own aesthetic preference, see above for more detail).

New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250g

New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250gI have several large fish in a 90 gallon tank and all the fish seem to really like this food. It's also great for my shovelnose catfish that only eats at the bottom of the tank.

I use 1-2 waffers daily in each of my tanks. A must if you want health shrimp, nerite snails, SAE's and cat fish.

Buy New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250g Now

My cory catfish were losing all of their fins and no matter what I did and no matter where I put them, their fins would not grow back. Finally I met a friend who told me to try the New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers so I did. This package is very big with lots of wafers,. I didn't expect to have to use them quickly, but boy was I surprised!

My cory catfish fell so in love with these that the line up every morning and can not wait to eat them. They gobble them right up and after only a few weeks, their fins have grown back after a whole year of nothing at all! I thought I was feeding them well with Omega One and other brands of wafers, but never did I have these kind of results.

They are so good that my cat tries to eat them too! He tries to knock open the container and cries to have some!

My cory catfish have very large whiskers again and are only missing a few fins between all of them now instead of all missing all fins. This is VERY exciting news.

And in the other tanks, the plecos wait to eat them and the little fish will all take turns pecking at these wafers until they are gone. I have to split them in half for one tank because the plecos will fight over them if I don't. There is not a fish I have that does not to nuts for these wafers. It cuts way down on food that I have to purchase as all of the fish can and will eat them and their coloring has deepened greatly. They are also much healthier than with any other food I have used in the pastand I have used quite a few brands.

Read Best Reviews of New Life Spectrum H2O Stable Wafers 250g Here

I have been using algae wafers in my fish feeding routine for 15 or so years. I have found a little algae is typically very healthy for the fish not to mention the fish enjoy the tablets tremendously. New Life Spectrum is the brand I primarily buy from and the algae wafers are no exception. I trust New Life Spectrum and will continue to buy their products until I am given a reason to switch.

The wafers are a bit thicker than many of the wafers I have used in the past. The thickness makes the wafer harder to break apart but easier to keep whole when the wafer begins to soften in the tank. Both the omnivores and carnivores in my tank will greedily accept the wafers without prejudice. My current tank has some big cichlids and catfish and I have proudly watched them grow to almost unmanageable sizes. The New Life Spectrum Algae wafer has a good balance of nutrients and fish love to eat them, as long as those two criteria are met, I am going to use this product.

Pros: Nice nutritional balance, stable, appetizing to fish, great sinking ability

Cons: More expensive than other wafers, harder to break apart or crumble

If you are looking to use one of these chillers remember, it must meet your application requirements. If not it won't work for you! The manufacturer even states this! For my application I am using 4 units and I can freeze 10 to 15 gallons of water overnight. With the controllers I am using they can maintain 1 degree c accuracy. Enough said!

Easy Life USEC 0250 EasyCarbo

Easy Life USEC 0250 EasyCarboI purchased this as a $3 or $4 add on item for Prime. I like the container and the price better than Excel. If they came out with a more innovative (maybe squirt type) bottle, I'd guess that they can give Seachem some real competition. How do I know this is the same as Excel? This stuff smells the same and looks the same, so it's an assumption on my part. My plants are really flourishing with Easy Carbo as well. Before you purchase though, make sure you check the price of the larger bottles(500ml, 1000ml) of Easy Carbo.

Aquarius Aq150004c Led Globe Bowl 1-1/2-Gallon Aquarium Kit

Aquarius Aq150004c Led Globe Bowl 1-1/2-Gallon Aquarium KitI have to admit when I purchased this bowl I was quite sceptical due to the fact that I truly wanted a glass bowl but it was a great price at $12.99 and I felt a need to rehome my female BETTA she was in a quart at the time and I wanted to give her a little more room to play and swim around in. Well low and behold from the very moment I put her in she loved it! As a matter of fact I tried rehoming her three times to larger tanks with filtration systems and she hated them ALL OF THEM! So I ended up putting her right back in her favorite home! I guess at some point I will have to purchase another one just to have a back up! I do weekly 100% water changes with no heater and she is well adjusted and has no complaints about this aquarium! She loves this bowl, I keep her led light to plain white/clear because she doesn't care for all the colors too much! You cannot go wrong with this aquarium for a BETTA at least! Good luck to you all! ;)

I do not even have the energy to make the attempt to return the two tanks... Misleading advertising,as to what is contained... I got a plastic bowl, black top, and a light. Nothing life the pictures showed, total waste of money.

Danner 02527 Pondmaster 700 gph Pump

Danner 02527 Pondmaster 700 gph PumpDoes what it's supposed to do. This is my third mag pump. I've been working my way up throught the years. My first was 250, then a 500. This is a 700 gph.(They all still work fine.) I use it with a their matching 1 sq, foot filter. You must use an add on filter or it will be constantly clogging. The 700 is perfect for the Bell Type Fountain.

I looked it several different pumps to power my aquaponics system. This unit was recommended by the guys at Friendly Aquaponics so I thought I couldn't go wrong. I have about 400 gallons in my system and the goal is to cycle at least that amount every hour. By the specs this pump should be more that enough to handle the job, but it seems a little underpowered to me and next time I think I will go with a larger Danner pump as the pump seems to be very well made. This is not like the cheap Chinese pumps you get off Ebay.

It came with a basket that keeps a lot of the solid material out of the pump, but at the same time it doesn't have any problem pumping the fish waste or algae buildup. I have been running it for 2 and a half months and have not had to clean it out once. It has a standard 3/4 in pvc outlet so I was able to use pvc piping bought at the big box store.

Buy Danner 02527 Pondmaster 700 gph Pump Now

Put the pump (brand new out of the box) in a refilled/clean pond with everything perfectly clean. Worked for about an hour before it started stuttering. Sounded like air or something was caught in the impeller, but its perfectly clean, the pump is submerged completely. Pulled off the impeller to see if anything was caught, but it was perfectly clean. The Danner Mfg website is of no help. Also for the 1 hour or so it did work, the output was much less than expected (barely more than my 300gph we were replacing). All in all I'm quite disappointed.

Read Best Reviews of Danner 02527 Pondmaster 700 gph Pump Here

I've been purchasing pumps for my pond for many years until I found this one! It was a hassle to constantly readjust pump settings with every new pump I had purchased as these pumps don't last forever and manufactures don't use the same inlet diameters or tubes. But now the ONLY thing I've had to replace is the impeller which is why pumps end up failing in the first place, and other pumps you cannot replace this part alone. So I've purchased a few spare impellers, and they are very easy and cheaper to replace. I keep the same pump setting and I've only had to replace the impeller once thus far in the 2 years I've had this pump. And I think it was my fault. I could've extended the life of it had I kept the filters clean.

I've read some reviews that the prefilter melts, deforms or looses it's shape. Yes, it does! But this does not justify lowering the rating of this pump. Mine lost its shape, but functions just fine. Who cares! It's under water!!

The key issue you need to keep in mind is that this pump might be a bit more expensive, BUT you can replace parts!! I've done my math and I can asure you that you end up saving money and time in the long run.

If you have had a pond for many years like I have, you know that somehow these pumps break down at the most inconvenient time. Then you can't find the same pump because manufactures change models constantly. Then the pump doesn't fit right, you now need a different diameter tubing, or the GPH somehow is not the same... forget it! Buy this one... and don't forget to always keep an Impeller replacement handy!!

Want Danner 02527 Pondmaster 700 gph Pump Discount?

This replaced the same pump I had on my turtle pond for the past three years. It is a real great workhorse and they have upgraded the warranty on the pump from 3 to 5 years. It really pushes the water and the pond is crystal clear. I just wish it came with a better pre-filter. Thank goodness I saved the one from another pump that I had and I use it. Turtles can really clog up a filter fast. Just make sure you clean the filter regularly. That is what happened to my old one. The filter was dirty and clogged the pump and the impeller carved grooves in the pump. I highly recommend this pump or all the others from this company to anyone.

Nutrafin Turtle Clean Biological Habitat Cleaner - 8.4 oz

Nutrafin Turtle Clean Biological Habitat Cleaner - 8.4 ozIf you are looking for some magic solution to the smell of a turtle tank, let me tell you right now--it ain't out there.

BUT, this product definitely helps a lot when you put a little in every time you add some water (and water conditioner, of course!). It reduces the smell by at least 30-40%, I'd estimate.

It's not a perfect solution, but turtles are messy creatures and we love their charm and friendliness.

Get a good canister filter, some BIG goldfish, so big that your turtle can't eat them, to help clean the tank, do regular water change-outs, and rinse your filters weekly. That'll help more than anything else. Don't think that a little Bio-floss filter like you'd use for a fish tank of an equivalent size is gonna cut it.

Need a suggestion on filters? We like our Rena Filstar XP2 for the big tank with a red-eared slider and we are happy with our recent purchase of a Marineland H.O.T. (hang-on-tank) magnum 250 for the smaller ones. Every filter has its drawbacks so research carefully.

I've been using this for several months now and feel that it really helps keep down algae and waste accumulation in my turtle tank. I have 2 young RES and my tank stays clean for a longer time and has cut down on water changes. I recommend this product!

Plus, this is a great deal from Amazon compared to buying it from your local store. This bottle is larger and costs less!

Buy Nutrafin Turtle Clean Biological Habitat Cleaner - 8.4 oz Now

This stuff works wonders on the Turtle Tank Smell. It will help you go a lot longer between full water changes. I have been using this stuff for a little over 5 years and my Turtles Carapace is between 6 and 7 inches so she produces ample waste. Every time I run out of the stuff my wife complains about the smell so I know it works. Also don't use gravel....Use river rocks it help the waste sink below and will dull your turtles nails a little.

If I had to make one complaint is that the 8.4oz bottle is too small.

Read Best Reviews of Nutrafin Turtle Clean Biological Habitat Cleaner - 8.4 oz Here

Been using this for a few months, keeps water crystal clear. I have 2 red ear sliders about 5 inches in a 55 gallon tank. About 30 gallons of water, works great!

Want Nutrafin Turtle Clean Biological Habitat Cleaner - 8.4 oz Discount?

If you are an aquatic turtle owner, you know all about cleaning up after turtles. I own three adult YBS in a 125 gallon tank. My filter is a Rena Filstar XP4 made for a tank twice that size, and it still struggles to keep up with the waste these turtles put out. Before I discovered this product, I cleaned the filter every other week. Since using the Habitat Cleaner, that's gone to once a month. Sometimes longer, depending on how lazy I am.

There are basically two benefits to this liquid product. The first is that it drastically cuts down on the "fishy" odor coming from your tank. This is noticeable within a few days. The second is that it breaks down biological turtle waste (feces, for the less sensitive,) into an odorless uniform sludge. As unappealing as that sounds it makes your filter work better as the sponges and other media can capture that sludge, and it makes cleaning a much less horrifying process. When you rinse out your sponges you will not be assaulted by any unpleasant odor, it's akin to washing mud off a shoe.

I highly recommend the use of this product. I usually add a capful whenever I top off my tank.

Ethical Cat, Eco-Cat Catnip Filled Natural Insects Pack (Fly, Bee & Dragon Fly): Cat Toys

Ethical Cat, Eco-Cat Catnip Filled Natural Insects Pack: Cat ToysWe only got one of these although the description seemed to say we'd get two. We figured it was low priced, and Amazon has been nice about returns we've made in the past so we didn't make waves about it. The cats liked it a lot. I do think the description needs to be more clear about whether you're getting one of these or three or two or what? Since we bought it, the picture and the title have changed. And now it's not being fulfilled by Amazon anymore either. So I'm not sure I'm reviewing the exact item that is for sale at the moment.

I was looking for toys that don't have a lot of dyes because one of their favorite toys colored their water purple when they dropped it in the water dish, and I could just imagine what it was doing to their mouth when they were chewing on it. I'm tempted to learn to sew!

This toy has been ignored by all 3 of my cats. They aren't interested in it at all. I finally tied a string to it and tried swinging it and dragging it around to see if that would interest them, but no luck. I guess there's a toy for every cat, but this one didn't work for us. We were sent the dragonfly.

Buy Ethical Cat, Eco-Cat Catnip Filled Natural Insects Pack (Fly, Bee & Dragon Fly): Cat Toys Now

These looked like fine little toys, and three for the price is acceptable. However, I received only one toy. I now notice that another reviewer had the same experience, so it appears that the item description is intentionally deceptive. I'd strongly advise against purchasing this item unless you think the cost is acceptable for one little felt-and-catnip toy.

This toy was purchased for a cat that loves to throw things up in the air and particularly loves to watch bugs. The minute it arrived, he was smitten. Cats don't see color, so the shape of something is very important. These really got his attention.

Want Ethical Cat, Eco-Cat Catnip Filled Natural Insects Pack (Fly, Bee & Dragon Fly): Cat Toys Discount?

I purchased one of these in a pet store. I later purchased them here because the cats were crazy about their bee! She tore it apart... luckily, they are all natural (made of straw/wool) so it's safe for them to chew. They are about 3" wide. The wings make it easy for the cat to carry around, and light but just enough weight to bat and throw around.

Not very durable, but our cats' enjoyment is worth the 4 bucks to replace them.

Economicalmore expensive than clay pots. Less than Texas Holey Rock.

Got this to give some of my smaller fish a place to hide from the bigger ones. It's worked very well and they do look like real stones. They are very lightweight and all arrived in perfect condition. I've noticed that we have quite a few new baby fish now and that they are growing larger (and not getting eaten by the bigger fish) so all in all they work out well. The only issue I have with them is that to clean around them is a pain you have to move them all out of the way, vacuum the bottom of the tank and then restack them. I realized this when ordering, and it isn't really a big deal but it is a bit of a pain you might want to consider just getting fewer of them in the larger size this eliminates some of the fussiness of cleaning and restacking but when they are all stacked up on the back of the tank they do look nice.

Great shippment arrived fast and in perfect condition.

Hagen Laguna Pro Skimmer Net with Handle

Hagen Laguna Pro Skimmer Net with HandleI've been using this skimmer net on my small water pond (about 300 gallons) for about two weeks and I am very happy with it. The handle can be adjusted to the right length so that I don't have to bend down, and the net is fine enough to scoop up even the grime at the bottom of my pond. And the plastic guard at the top of the frame protects the net from being torn when I scrape on the pond floor. I highly recommend it.

This is the first net I have had that has not torn or broken. I have a concrete pond so the rim guard is exactly what I needed.
