Cascade® Heat® Aquarium Heaters

Penn Plax Cascade Preset Submersible Aquarium Heater, 100-WattDo not be fooled by price. I got what I paid for. It lasted about 9 months and most of that time was the summer and it was hardly on. Now that its colder the thermostat would only come on if I turned the knob all the way up to the highest setting and even then it would kick off. The water is maintaining 65 degrees. I bought two of these at the same time so put in the new one and that is working but will probably get less than a year out of that one as well.

As the other reviewer said the lifetime warranty is useless. I paid $9 for the heater and they want $10 to send it back. I am basically just buying another heater from them.

I will stick with a visi-therm or aqueon as I have those running in my other tanks with no problems.

I purchased this heater for my brand new 10 gallon aquarium from my local fish store. He began selling these after Visi-therm and their stealth heaters began to not hold up. His selling feature was the price and the life-time guarantee.

Upon first introducing it to the tank, it appeared to work, but I did not have a thermometer yet, so there was no way to tell. I left it at the initial setting of 76 degrees to cycle the tank. The tank glass felt warm, so I assume it was working. After 1-1/2 weeks, I bought a digital thermometer (the same as the one in my community tank). The tank was only 73 degrees. I checked the new thermometer against the old one and they measured the same temperature within a few 1/10's of a degree.

After turning the unit up continuously throughout the evening, I could heat the 10 gallon tank no higher than 75 degrees. This heater definitely did not work.

The guarantee, if you want to call it that, is almost worthless. You must send a copy of your receipt and $10 to the manufacturer, who will then send you another unit. That's more than 1/2 the original cost. More like buying one for retail, and then getting a lifetime supply at wholesale cost.

All I want is a heater that is reliable I'm not concerned about guarantees. Guarantees don't heat the tank reliable heaters do. This heater has left me in a lurch.

I have this heater in my 55 gallon tank, and it keeps the water at 80 degrees consistently. However, the heater is set at 89 degrees (close to the supposed maximum). So, it works perfectly if you ignore the gauge, and use an independent thermometer.

Bought this heater because my fishes got ich and had to do a treatment for them, I thought I made a bad choice based on the price I paid but it really worked well for me. The temperature was accurate and it was durable enough until my Pacus got bigger, they would swim by it and smash it into the glass and it wouldn't break. They got the upper hand evevtually, I saw pieces of glass at the bottom of the tank and I wasn't surprised at all. Overall it was a great heater and I'm planning on buying another one soon.

I bought this for my 29 gallon tank because the very small heater I had was barely keeping up with the cold temperatures of winter. Our tank is in our kitchen in front of a window and generally stays colder in the area. This heater has worked perfectly for the month+ that we have had it. It keeps it at a steady 78 and the fish no longer huddle around the heater for warmth. Great price for a great product.

Hagen Marina Ecoscaper Variety Pack including Echinodorus Silk Plant, Nupar Japonicum Silk Plant, a

Hagen Marina Ecoscaper Variety Pack including Echinodorus Silk Plant, Nupar Japonicum Silk Plant, and Lobelia Silk PlantThe plants are decent, but the way they are packaged causes them to be crushed and twisted.

You really have to re-work the plants to get them to look right.

Good color and movement in tank.

I bought this when I was setting up my first 5 gallon aquarium. I didn't really like it. The plants seemed too big for a 5 gallon, and looked a bit fake. Removed and don't use them. Why 3 stars and not two? Well, they are what they say they are... fake plants...they didn't lie. Hard to tell from a picture on the internet what something really looks like, unfortunately have to buy it to find out, but felt it was a waste of money.

These plants are very soft, and therefore very good for delicate betta fish fins. However, they look kind of cheap. The tops of the plants look great, but the bottoms are not painted, and the plastic parts stick out. They still look better than most plastic plants, but they still are not convincing.

Read Best Reviews of Hagen Marina Ecoscaper Variety Pack including Echinodorus Silk Plant, Nupar Japonicum Silk Plant, a Here

To be honest, I've seen better silk plantsmore realistic movements, better at hiding plastic. I've also seen much, much worse. This looks realistic enough to not be visually jarring.

The package contains three plants: a broadleafed light green plant, a bladeleaf medium green plant, and a very, VERY leafy dark green plant. The broadleaf came with the leaves nested like spoons, which I'm still struggling to correct; it looks decidedly unnatural, though I do like the color and shape of the leaves themselves. The positions of the leaves on the bladeleaf is much more natural and easier to shape. The dark green one is by far the most natural, but really needs to be in a tank larger than 1 gallon because it literally covers the entire inside of my betta's tank. You can get around this by sliding all the leaf segments all the way to the top, but it doesn't look as good that way.

Like I said, not super-duper awesome quality, but passable enough that I'm going to keep them for my tank setup.

PondCare Master Liquid Test Kit

PondCare Master Liquid Test KitI've been using this test kit for several months now for my Pond, so far it's met all my expectations. I've expanded the kit and purchased a Hardness test (KH/GH) and High Range PH kit from the same manufacture. Very pleased.

This is a great pond or water garden test kit. I am able to easily and precisely test my pond water on a regular basis with this kit. No complaints at all. It does all the tests stated in the description. I definitely would recommend this kit for anyone that wants to make sure their fish and plants are living in a comfortable and healthy environment.

Buy PondCare Master Liquid Test Kit Now

Great kit. comes in it's own carring case/box. The test results are not exact. you have to compare the color of your test water to a few colors on a paper chart. Sometimes you have to guess at where in the spectrum your results fall. It is better than not knowing.

Purchased for 1000 gallon home pond. This test kit was more than adequate for testing my pond water. Would recommend for anyone who wants to ensure that their pond water is healthy and safe for their fish.

This product is easy to use, and comes in a handy case. As some other users have commented, you do have to compare the resulting color of the water with a color chart to get your reading, so it's not exact. It's nice to have an idea of where you are though.

Tetra 19105 Water Wonders Fresh Water Plant Foxtail, 6-InchI was on here shopping one day and I was trying to reach the 25 dollars or more to get free shipping. I have a 10 gallon aquarium and I need some more plants in it. I found this plant and since it was super cheap and was eligible for free shipping, I bought it. It's a nice little plant for $2 and the picture of it here looks red. When it actually looks kind of pinkish which is fine with me. It's definitely worth buying for $2.

Adds some interest and places to hide in the tank. It also looks a bit more natural and nice once some algae starts to grow on it.

Penn-Plax® Aquarium Plant Anchors, 12pk

Penn-Plax® Aquarium Plant Anchors, 12pkThese lead plant anchors do work. Our aquarium has large, natural colored river pebbles, so we can't really get the roots covered adequately enough to weight the plants down with them. We have freshwater anacharis plants. We were using plastic tie wraps to hold the anacharis strands together, and then stuck the bunch into the pebbles, but some strands would break off and leave a gap in the bunch. This would allow the rest of the bunch to float up and out of the tie wrap. Now they just do the same thing with the lead wrap weights, but I notice that at least it does take longer for the bunch to break loose and float to the top in loose strands. I think this is because you can wrap the lead ties a little tighter and cover a little more of the strand base by spiraling the tie up as you wrap. Oh well, it's better than the plastic tie wrap method. I gave one star off because they don't completely hold the bunch down forever, but I haven't found what will yet.

These lead strips are the same as the ones that come with many of the live aquatic plants I've purchased from my local fish store. They wrap easily around the stems of hard to contain plants, and help to keep them from floating all over my fish tank.

I've used them quite a few times to group a bunch of cuttings together after pruning some of my fast growing plants (particularly 'rotala', which roots very quickly), and then have brand new plants to help fill up my freshwater tropical aquarium.

Buy Penn-Plax® Aquarium Plant Anchors, 12pk Now

I have a 3/3.5 gallon aquarium for my two little African Dwarf Frogs. They love plants to hide in, but the plants kept coming up when I was changing the water (they are growing so I'm doing frequent water change to get rid of some of the crap.) These frogs are very timid and freakout when I change their water or put my hand in there. So I wanted to give them back there beloved hiding spots while at the same time causing them the least amount of stress.

If I tied together a few of the small viney plants with a few of the weights (which are just strips of lead and kind of remind me of ties you use for bread), they would hold down. Even when I sucked water away with my siphon or put water down. The frogs are oblivious to the ties. However, I had a hard time use these for single tiny plants. They tend to make the plant shorter when you are putting it on....lost one plant that way. So far only plant single plant has come back up. I guess it is helping with the problem, but not sure how it will do long term.

These anchors are ok, but I have to use several to hold down one artificial plant. They don't work with my live plants--for some reason I can't get the live ones to stay on. These anchors do work, you just need to use at least a few on each plant.

These work as expected and hold the plants down in the tank. My only concern was for the health of the fish but it doesnt' seem to effect them at all.

It came in a box with 30 packages not a package with 30 pieces, each bag held about 10 treats. Lee's Round Dual-Action Foam Filter, Fits up to 5-Gallon

Lee's Round Dual-Action Foam Filter, Fits up to 5-GallonI read other reviews on here that complained about how "loud" this style of filter is, and I thought to myself, "How could a foam filter possibly be loud?"

Well, I'm here to tell you right now... this thing is loud. For some reason, the bubbles it expels aren't of the "calm, soothing" variety. They're aggressively noisy. I'm not even sure why that is, but I do know that this filter didn't last two days before I'd had enough and chucked it into the garbage.

I've since switched to the Hydro Sponge-style filter and it operates beautifully. And quietly.

Found an under gravel filter to fit my Betta bowls! The gravel layer is 1-1/2" and an airline with air valves modulates the air from a small pump, that services 3 Betta bowls. Weekly 20% water changes are still required. Fish are happy and healthy. The bowls have small water heaters, too.

Exotic Environments T-Rex Skull Aquarium Ornament, Large, 10-Inch by 6-Inch by 6-InchMy Cichlids love swimming in and around this thing! Highly recommend if u like exotic aquarium pieces! You won't be disappointed!

I chose this item for my plecostomus to hide in since it keeps harassing my turtle and thought a new house would distract the monstrous fish. Unfortunately the mouth isn't wide enough to accommodate its girth so it just takes up space and looks cool. Combined with the aerator and red flourite it creates a cool look. I think I'll try the alligator skull as that looks big enough to let the fish swim through.

I purchased this item for my son's snake enclosure. We had seen the same item at our local pet shop for $36.95 and I was not willing to spend that kind of money on this item. I was so happy to find this when I got home and for much less than the store. My son has a baby California King snake who needed a hide/shed helper/ climbing apparatus. As soon as I placed this into the enclosure the snake was weaving in and out of the holes, rubbing his head against the rough texture, and hiding in the base of the jaw. Within 24hrs he had successfully shed, due to the texture of the T-Rex skull (it was his first shed and they are notoriously the hardest for a snake to accomplish). The skull is large enough that the snake can still enjoy it through adulthood! I would recommend this item to anyone looking for either fish tank decor or Reptile needs.

Aside from the snake being happy my son is absolutely thrilled! He wasn't happy about having to walk away from this item in store and when he came home to find it in the snake tank he about died! He is quite the dino expert and swears that this is a super detailed replica "it even has the orbital notches and the nasal cavity!! Mom this is the coolest thing EVER!!!"

All in all everyone is happy Especially mom who was able to give the munckin what he wanted without breaking the budget!

Tetra Gel Mix, 16-Count, 1.4-Ounce

Tetra 77262 Algae Gel Mix, 16-Count, 1.4-OunceI agree this product is gooey, and sinks to the botttom of the tank. However i have feed it to my betta fry approx. 1 month old fry andthey have doubled in size. Their color has really came out also. I challenge anyone to just try this food for any fry and see how it works.

The packets are gooey, sticky, and just sink to the bottom as a clump of mushed up worms. Expensive as well. I went to Petsmart and bought an entire can of dried bloodworms (intact!) which hydrate in the water and look real anyway, the fish love them. Even my freshwater puffer will grab them as they float by.

Fluval EDGE Gravel Cleaner, 15-inch Intake Tube

Fluval EDGE Gravel Cleaner, 15-inch Intake TubeThis gravel cleaner is perfect to clean not only the intended Edge tanks but any other tank since it consist of a plastic tube with a hose. There are no compatibility issues as some reviewers seem to suggest. It's too simple for having a problem. And the size of the tank you are cleaning has an importance mostly based on your style and preferences. I prefer to take my time and clean thoroughly every spot I want. This cleaner allows me to do that in a 29 gallon aquarium because a so-called "ideal" gravel cleaner for that size (namely a 2" tube with a 1/2" hose) would suck a bucket of water every 30 seconds or so, which is way too fast in my opinion. So, what you have to keep in mind when selecting a gravel cleaner is the debit of water sucked per second, and that is given by the diameter of the hose. It's a concept that everyone who went to a high school should know: Venturi effect. Every gravel cleaner on the market has basically the same flow speed ratio between the tube and the hose. The difference observed by users is obviously given by the fact that the diameters of the hoses are different from one cleaner to another. A better understanding of the suction power would be to consider what would happen if only a hose would be used, making abstraction of the gravel.

So, this gravel cleaner works great in Edge tanks but also in any other tank, big or small, as long as you keep in mind that the hose has an internal diameter of 3/8" so the suction power is limited by that. That doesn't mean no suction power. To me it's actually the ideal power for most sizes of aquariums. And this cleaner comes with 2 cleaning heads that improve the options you have when cleaning deep clean or hard to reach areas. I enjoy the deep cleaning the most.

The bigger sizes of gravel cleaners have hoses with 1/2" internal diameter which in my opinion is only appropriate for over 50 gallon aquariums since with that size, you will fill a bucket very fast and for smaller aquariums you will end up making a 50% or more water change with every cleaning. That is not recommended.

This gravel cleaner is designed for the 6 gal Fluval Edge (Nano) tank. It works great for this purpose. It looks like some of the reviewers didn't realize this was designed for a 6 gal tank.

I purchased this gravel cleaner to use with my Fluval Chi Aquarium Kit, 5-Gallon. It has worked great for this so far! It is a small cleaner, which is really helpful for small tanks, because it means it doesn't empty the tank too quickly, so it can be used for partial water changes. It was easy to get the suction started, and the filter picked up detritus well. It also picked up one of my ghost shrimp, but he's okay!

Hagen Nutrafin Max Guppy Color Enhancing Flakes, 1.06-Ounce

Hagen Nutrafin Max Guppy Color Enhancing Flakes, 1.06-OunceI have found this food to be good for not only guppies, but any small fish that may want a meal. My communial tank holds guppies, neon tetras and mollies and they all get excited when they see me reach for this food. And I have noticed that their colors are becoming brighter. I did not want to feed them someting that would be bad for them just to bring out color, but this food uses fresh vegies to do the job.

I don't like these flakes as well as the similar Tetra flakes. They don't stay on top of the water as long and the guppies don't seem to try for them once they fall below the water.

HMO 100: Finnex 100 Watt w/ Memorized Digital Controller Aquarium Titanium Heater (20 - 30 Gallons)

HMO 100: Finnex 100 Watt w/ Memorized Digital Controller Aquarium Titanium HeaterI have gone through a few name brand heaters and have always had problems with the temperature one time the temp went up to 90 degrees and another time it just quit working! This one displays the temperature digitally, and the actual water temperature is very consistent. I've used it for several months now and waited to write a review to be sure I would be happy over the long haul. It does have a separate wire for the temperature which is separate from the heating unit, so you will have an extra wire to hide in the tank. The clip that holds the digital display could be a bit thicker, but holds it OK. It does just what it says it will do and I am satisfied with my purchase.

UPDATE (7/10/11): After about only 4 months of use, this morning the heater starts making a high pitched tone. No matter what I did the unit would not stop making this tone or let me set the temperature. I give it two stars (down from 3) instead of one because at least the unit told me when it broke so I was able to get a new heater from the pet store without affecting the tank much. I think I will stay away from this brand from now on.

------------------------------------------

I bought this unit with the hopes of never having to fuss with the temperature again and it has succeeded at doing this.

I'll start with the good:

It's an attractive heater. I like the steel look.

It keeps a constant temperature.

The unit remembers my settings after power outages.

Suction cup on device is strong.

Now the bad:

The unit to control the temperature is hideous. Functional, but it takes away from the beauty of your tank if not well hidden. I also wish the cord attached to it was longer to make it easier to hide and easier to access later.

I have another thermometer in the tank. That thermometer claims the temperature is 3 degrees less than what this unit thinks it is. So now I have to go and get a third thermometer to figure out which of the two is off.

So does it keep a constant temperature? Yes. But is it reading the temperature of the water? Not sure. Fish seem to not mind either way.
