This heater has been very consistent in our 10gal tank. I like that the temperature control sits outside of the water for easy access (although it is not needed once you set the tank to the right temperature.)

Keep in mind that the temperature number is more of a guiding number. Your tank will interact with the room temperature, so the real temperature in the tank will be somewhere between the outside temp and the heater set temp. Our 10 gal tank is set to 82, and the room temp is 70. Under these settings the in-tank thermometer keeps steady at 78. The same is true for a different heater we have in our 30 gal tank. I recommend setting your tank by the thermometer reading.

Another thing worth noting is that the suction cups don't do their job too well. It seems that one or the other is always coming off, which gets a bit annoying over the long run.

...immediately after the warranty period is over. I have had the heater master controller break on 3 different occasions and repaired, not replaced, by Finnex for $10-15 each time. It will last for another 6-9 months. When you are dealing w/your heater in the aquarium, you have to be very careful.

Concurrently, I purchased 3 Finnex titanium heaters with controllers and 2 of them have gone dead (luckily in the "off" position) within a month after the warranty period. Luckily, the Finnex controllers are connected to Medusa controllers---which are worth the money...the Medusas have worked perfectly for 5+ years. Yes, it's overkill with the controllers, but the lack of reliability with the Finnex heaters and controllers makes it imperative that I have a safety net the won't allow the Finnex heater/controller to boil my aquarium.

Buy a Finnex frameless aquarium, they look fantastic...but think twice before you consider Finnex heaters or controllers...if you must buy it, connect another controller to govern the Finnex product.

I bought the Finnex heaters and controllers because of the reputation of their tanks. Unfortunately, the reputation, and more so the reliability, did not extend to their heating product line. Save yourself some grief and heed my words.

I am fairly happy with the quality of the heater, and especially with its high wattage for such a small size. The only problem I have seen is that the temperature controller does not set the heater accurately. I had to set the dial four degrees warmer than the temperature of the tank. The heater does, however, work well and keeps the temperature very consistent.

Thought this was a decent heater (& it was for 6 months). Had it set for 72 degrees.... Checked it tonight & the water temperature was 102 degrees! Everything DEAD. The seller, Coral Aquatics, says it's Finnex's problem. Finnex only has a 180 day warranty (I'm 1 1/2 months past that). Recommend avoiding their products unless you are willing to gamble on a mass kill.

Aquatic Life Retrofit Polished Single Lamp Reflector Aquarium Light with Clips, 36-Inch

I used this to build a DIY light fixture for my aquarium with T5HO bulbs. The reflectors work great and get twice as much light into the tank as before. The only issues I had were not with the product itself, but with the lack of availability of T5 end caps that are the appropriate height. I had to use fender washers and stack about 8 of them up to bump out the reflectors so they would be positioned correctly and line up with the end caps. Also, be aware that the reflectors themselves are only 30" long, so the bulbs, being just over 34" long, extend past the reflector a little on each end, however, I don't feel that this interferes much with their effectiveness. I still get more than enough light and it's focused down into the tank with almost no spillage.

Marina Betta Pals Kit

I really wish people would really educate themselves about betta splendens and their housing requirements. These so-called 'betta kits' are not acceptable by any serious aquarist. This tank is clearly too small. A betta fish needs a larger tank that is big enough for a heater to fit inside it. Bettas are tropical fish and they do need a heater to regulate their body temperature and keep them healthy (room temperature water will not help keep a fish heal its fins if it has fin rot or shredded its fins for some other reason). Secondly bettas are intelligent, curious creatures who likes to swim around and through things. This tank does not provide the space for that kind of activiity. With this little prison, er, tank, the fish is just going to sit there and eventually bite its tail due to boredom. If you want to get a betta fish, at least get a medium Kritter Keeper, a mini hyor heater, and a few silk plants and nice bridge for the fish. I wouldn't even use this fish prison for water changes or as a hospital.

I have a hard time understanding why Marina would sell & market a fish tank specifically marketed for Bettas when after researching betta fish it's so clear that this tank size is tiny and cruel to keep a fish in?

I bought this at Petsmart one day when I decided to get a betta for my daughter's birthday present, and I just figured since it was specifically a "Betta kit" that it was humane and an appropriate size for a betta. Unfortunately, upon getting home with my betta tank all set up, I Googled a bit to learn more about this fish and read in several different places (from both professionals, veterinarians, and fish enthusiasts) that a 1/2 gallon betta aquarium is WAY too small and cruel to put the fish in. And after letting the fish live in this aquarium for a few weeks, I know they're right. My fish sits in the corner, facing the corner all day, despite regular cleaning his fins are pulled close to the body, he barely moves except to eat. It's very clear this fish is stressed out.

Finally, I picked up a 1.5 gallon tank and hoping it will help, as well as some natural plants for him to hide behind. Just got it tonight, so we'll see.

But my problem is I just think it's incredibly misleading for Marina to market & sell aquariums for Bettas that they MUST KNOW are TOO SMALL for these beautiful fish to thrive in. My fish survived, sure, but as one professional put it in their article on Bettas: "Surviving and thriving are two very different things." And as for my, I want a happy & healthy fish.

So, shame on you Marina for selling aquariums like this! I'm certain there are many more unaware buyers like myself that assume because the pet store sells it, it must be appropriate for their pet. Very misleading. Great design! But just not enough for even one fish.

And to other buyers, please do your research on bettas before buying. They are beautiful, fun fish. Give them a good life!

Admittedly, I am not a fish purist. I was simply looking for a nice, compact fishtank for my 2.5-year-old to keep a betta in his room. I bought the Marina Betta Pals kit in green from a local box retailer and moved Pickle into his home. He ate, pooped, made bubble nests and was lively. He seemed very happy for the 3 years that he lived there before passing away, in spite of his small domain. My son is now almost 8 and on his second betta who has been with us for 2.5 years now. Again, every indication is that the fish is not unhappy with his surroundings. So yes, this is a small tank, but its small size is a bonus in a kid's room. It is easy to clean, easy to open to feed the fish, and has a lid to protect the fish from our curious cats and random Legos. And the fish just don't appear to be distressed in it.

I'm a betta hobbist and I know about all the misconceptions that betta can live in just about anything and it is bogus. This "aquarium" is way too small, betta require atleast one gallon of water and that needs to be cleaned 1-2x weekly atleast. This is probably 1/2 gallon or less meaning you either clean it every day, t hus stressing your betta out and killing it or let is die a slow death from ammonia burns and other ills. This also has no lighting leave betta looking dull and boring, no heating or ability to heat so your house must stay warm where your betta is and it just isn't good. You can also buy large Critter Carriers (2-3 gallons) for the same price or less, it wouldn't be great, but it'd be a heck of a lot better.

I liked this tank because I don't have a lot of space away at school. It fits one betta fish (no more than one).

There is no room for a filter-but a plant helps with maintaining the oxygen levels and keeping wastes down. I clean up the food my picky betta misses with a net. I also change about a quarter of the water in my tank every 2 days. It has held up really nicely so far. My betta is happy. I wish I had room for toys. Poor guys bored and stares at me half the time :-) lol. I think he needs something to do.

The product is nice and colorfull but I wouldnt say the same about the condition I recieved in the mail. It looked a bit worn out, some of the paint was coming off, it had something weird on itit looked like mold but it wasnt, I dont know what it was and it also had wierd paint on it too, also didnt know what it was. Basically, it came kind of in an old condition. Other than that, I wanted to give it a try for my hamster because I was waiting all day for it. I definately wouldnt want to buy another one on amazon ever again, id rather buy it in the store and not risk getting another one in odd condition. Also, it came with silica gel to keep moisture out, not sure what to think of that.I cant replace it just because it came in odd, crappy condition.

First I'll start by saying that 8.8 ounces of this at the only local pet store is $24.00. So the price of this is obviously an awesome deal. The shipping even made it come out about 15 dollars less. I feed a mix of Xtreme Spectrum and Dainichi for optimum growth and color for my breeding stock. They love all of them and this one is a must in the mix. Be advised "baby" pellets are abou 1.5mm by my estimation so they are not small in comparison to other brands, this brands small is 3.5mm I believe. This is a great product and I will buy it forever.

This cave was a great addition to our tank. The fish love it and even our little red tailed shark likes to hide in it and pop out to scare other fish :-)

I bought this so my fish would have a place to hide, not knowing that the two plecos would take up residence instantly. My Oranda goldfish wanted to go in, but he's a little to large for such adventures. Anyway, the quality is OK, but just OK. The plants are hot-glued in, and the glue was very visible when I got this decoration out of the packaging. However, you don't notice it in the tank, and I don't think the fish much care one way or the other. The plants are stiff plastic, so it may not be the best decor for fish with delicate fins, although it hasn't bothered any of our goldfish as of yet. Overall, it's not a bad cave decoration for the price.

It came in a huge box, which i was very excited. Didnt think it was going to be that big. I have a 55 gallon tank and my poor pleco is at least 10 inches long and had no where to hide in my tank. Im veary happy with this, my female betta sleeps on it at night so its easy for her to just dip her head up for air, doesnt harm her fins, idk about how it would be on a male, its not as good as silk but its far better then plastic as far as bettas fins go, I have had 2 of these 1 for a few months befor I gave away the fish and tank to a lil kid befor I moved, and then the 1 I have now I have had for a year, hasnt broke or faded and my lil girl betta loves it

Compared to PetsMart this should save you a few dollars. Also, don't be so quick to throw these guys away with the Eclipse tanks. We've noticed that the tanks filtration system has a pretty solid vacuum, so you'll notice that these cartridges will get dirty after about 4-5 days. Don't worry, because it's just the top layer. Pull the cartridge out and scrub the surface with a new toothbrush from your dentist. You know? The cheap ones they give you after you've paid for a teeth cleaning. This should get you a few extra days.

Impeller Assembly for Eclipse 3 Hood

I thought I reviewed this already, but i find myself having to replace it yet again. So it is a good this i take a second look at it from a critical view. BTW this is the 3rd time in the past year replacing this...

I cannot say it is the core unit that is flawed here. If you look close you can see on the ends there are removable black rubber caps that act as friction and noise reducers. Yeah that is great, but every time I break my system down the rubber caps seem to be worn down or get damaged in the process. If these caps are not just right the pump is noisy. Ugh, i like the look of my Eclipse 3 Hood and the way it runs don't get me wrong.

I guess that is why impellers are cheap though. I will keep buying them regaurdless of this annoying minor flaw cause i like the over all product this is a part of.

I just wish the rubber ends were sold by themselves or that the unit came with a few sets of these.

Hydor H2Show Magic World - Gargoyle and Book Decoration Combo Pack

When I saw the Magic World "Hogwarts"-themed background, I just knew I had to have a Harry Potter aquarium! I know these are not officially licensed Harry Potter products, but it's pretty obvious -the background, in particular -what Hydor was going for with this themed set. We purchased the gargoyle and book (Hogwarts: A History, undoubtedly, yes?) and the owl in the tree, as well as the background image, for our 16 gallon bow front aquarium. The products (the gargoyle and the book) arrived loose in their packaging. As they are resin, there was no chipping, though. Both pieces had two large globs of dried glue on the bottoms, which I assume was how they had been originally anchored in the packaging. Prying these dried spots of glue (each around the size of a penny) from the decor was really difficult! I placed the gargoyle and the book in the tank and they look quite nice, especially with the background. The owl piece of decor is almost 12" high, which I did not realize when I ordered it; it's way too big for a 16 gallon tank, so I will be returning the owl (it's an attractive piece, though, for a larger tank). I opted to skip the crystal ball and the rock formation, which was a good choice as the pieces are of good size and the entire set could easily overcrowd a smaller-sized tank. The gargoyle and the book are, obviously, hollow, so there are holes to keep them from floating out of place. Normally one would hide the air holes for aesthetic reasons, but I left the air holes in the book remain slightly above the substrate to provide a refuge for our African dwarf frogs. It works perfectly for this purpose. All in all these are nice pieces of aquarium decor and are perfect for a wizarding or Harry Potter theme (again, I realize these are not officially licensed Harry Potter products; they just happen to match a Harry Potter theme nicely). I will try and upload a picture showing the gargoyle and book in their places. I would recommend these decor items.

These item are nice but the book is really large for my 55 gallon tank and the gargoyle is pretty standard. If would be nicer if I had a bigger tank but there nice.

I received this quickly, but the gargoyle was in pieces. It had no protective padding at all, the worst packaging I have ever seen for a fragile item. The Book was surprising intact, and is very pretty.

SeaClear Eclipse 3 Compatible Aquarium

The aquarium is very nice and well constructed. The two main complaints are that the only hood that will work with this aquarium is the Eclipse 3 and that the Eclipse 3 doesn't make a hood without the filter, just hood and light. You will need to be creative a buy an aquarium top frame like those use on glass tanks and cut the back side off as the 29 gallon frame is .5 inch shorter. You can then use a glass hood and add your own lighting.

I should have done some extra research before this, but the dimensions of this tank perfectly replace the 29 gallon glass tank and stand that I have. The Eclipse 3 will add on another $130 to your cost, so be aware of this. I went the creative way and saved money, but not exactly what I originally planned as I thought any 30 inch hood would have fit...

This tank was a replacement to my old glass 29 gal tank. I wanted to get a larger tank, but not change the stand. I chose this because it had the same base dimensions, which allowed me to reuse my old base cabinet. I love it. It seems significantly larger than the old tank, and the seamless corners gives it a great clean look. The Eclipse 3 system provides plenty of light and adds to the clean look. It's quiet too, although you definitely hear the sound of running water. Since it's 24 inches tall, you need extra long arms :), or just get a new set of tools to help with cleaning and planting.

I was very excited to get this bag to use as a training tool for my new puppy. I got it and started to use it and within @2 weeks, the hinge failed and I was no longer able to open the pouch at all! I exchanged the item thinking it was just a fluke but the second one also failed after @2 weeks. Very disappointed that an expensive treat bag was so poorly made. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

I've had an Outward Hound treat bag like this in the past and it was terrific. Bought this one as a replacement as we lost the other in a move. Ready for the first puppy class, I loaded up and away we went. Within 30 minutes the snap shut mechanism had broken making it impossible to close the bag. I hope it was just a fluke and that I got a lemon, but it sure was an expensive lemon!

I have purchased 3 of these treat bags one from amazon and two from a local pet store. The hinge fails within several uses. I have tried to repair the hinge but once failed cannot be resurrected. I prefer this size/ shape treat bag to the round pouches which don't facilitate quick access to training treats but can't/ won't continue to waste money on a product that clearly is defective. (Other hinged treat bags have the same hinge defect.)

Actually I would give this product a 4.5 start rating if I could. This is the second Outward Hound treat bag that I have purchased and use it every day with my dog. I love the fact that there are 2 internal compartments along with the mesh compartment on the outside. I use one of the compartments inside to stash a few dollars and my lip balm, and the other of course for treats. I usually put a poop bag in the mesh compartment outside. I also like the adjustable waist strap. I can cinch it down in the summer when I'm not wearing a coat and give myself more room to go over a heavy winter coat. Other bags I tried before these clipped onto my belt, but would never stay on. They could be eaily knocked off.

There are 2 issues with this bag. The mesh compartment is not deep so things can fall out and I have lost a poop bag or two. (That's OK I always carry multiple). The bigger issue is the bag "pops" open using a thin metal band covered in the fabric. You have to be careful because over time ( at least on the last one I had) that metal cracked/broke and ripped through the fabric. I covered it with duck tape but it got bad enough that I would scratch my hand on it. I finally tossed it and got a new one. I just try to open and close the pouch as few times as I can.

I would recommend it.
