It is somewhat loud, but I hid it under something, placed it on carpet and I never hear it now. The only issue is that one of the ports broke off for no apparent reason. So now I am down to only being able to use one hose.

Update: it has been about three months and the other air line port broke. What is amazing is that they snap off with absolutely no force put upon them, just the weight of the air line itself. Look elsewhere for a better quality pump.

Fluval Motor Seal Ring for External Filter

I needed a new O ring, and this did the trick for a quarter what the LFS wants for it. Bravo!

Pro tip when you need to get saltwater gunk out of your filter, take the O ring off of the filter before you soak it (the filter box) in vinegar the acid destroys the rubber of the O ring!

I couldn't stop my filter from leaking no doubt cause it was 8+ years old and had the original seal. I was also having problems that before it started not sealing, it would leak upon power start up after an electrical outage. Good thing I keep a plastic container underneath it cause it filled it up and almost overflowed. Now with the new seal, it doesn't leak anymore.

I ordered this for a fluval 205. I have no idea how old the unit is because I got it with a used aquarium that I bought. The fluval canister leaked like crazy. I ordered the seal with a slim hope that it would work. To my suprise it doesn't leak at all now and runs like new. I'm very impressed. If your fluval is leaking order this.

This is a wonderful little tank. we decided that we wanted to get a few fish, so we looked into options for a place for them to live. The first idea was a cute little led colored bubbler tank, but they topped out at three gallons, and we wanted the fish to have a bit of room. The normal everyday 10gal tank was out of the question, because we live in a small apartment and barely have room to move around as it is. After a bit of research into tanks we decided to go with this one as it has the nice led lighting, room for a small fish to move around, comes with a filter system, and wasn't really heavy. The only place we have to keep a tank in on top of a folding wire dog kennel that our cute little dog lives in, to much weight and we would not only be out a fish tank, but be shopping for a new kennel.

A tank of this size means you have to be careful of which fish you choose to live inside it. Anything that grows to a large size is out of the question, the rule I found out is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. That means if you get fish an inch long you can put five in this tank without overloading it. If you wish to have more fish, you should get a larger tank. So this limited the choices of fish a bit.

We ended up going with two of the fish the tank is named for glo-fish (one pink one green), and since it was on sale a little fiddler crab, (everything said we should wait on the crab as it takes awhile for the tank to grow the right kind of bacteria, but he is so cute we got him anyway) then we stopped at a pet store named for fish and picked some tiny neon tetra's and a couple zebra danio's. all the fish lined up nose to tail might be 4 inches(if you pull hard on each one as you measure), so with the crab (that does morning exercise), we are right at the limit for this tank.

Little tanks mean more cleaning as there is no space for anything to hide. The fish eat, that means after the food is processed thru the fish it has to go somewhere, which means you have to get that back out of the tank. Plus new fresh gravel tends to cloud the water (something else I just learned), so has to be clean often. all this leads to every other day cleaning for the first month of ownership I am told. I didn't know it was going to be so much work to keep the little tank going, but its really not that hard to clean if you get a gravel cleaner (available at most pet stores for around ten dollars). It takes less time to clean the tank, than it does to pre heat the oven. I know as she was starting to make diner when I got off work and turned the oven on to pre heat, before it was ready for the food to go in the tank was cleaned and ready to roll. This all means that its not much of time consuming task to clean up.

The fish seem very happy, they zip back and forth and dart thru all the decorations (not included with the tank but easy to find), and the crab climbs into places that make you wonder how it could possible get there. Its a very relaxing thing to have in the home as I find myself watching the little fish darting around instead of watching the television so much. Plus feeding time is allot of fun as the fish get to be really active trying to get all the food for themselves (they hate to share).

For those of us out there without allot of space and with a desire to have little finned creatures zipping around in our homes, I highly recommend this tank.

For those out there with more space I would say find something a lot larger and fill it with fun things like little freshwater sharks.

My mom got this tank for my son for his birthday to replace a cracked aquarium that had held a betta we got the aquarium and started putting it together. There was a small piece of the base broken on it but I figured it's ok no big deal after all the aquarium is intact, the light is amazingly bright and the betta was loving having more room to swim but then I plugged in the filter and the filter started to pull him to it. The filter is way too powerful for a betta so currently it is a 5 gallon fish bowl with a pretty blue light. This is a beautiful tank but I will be replacing the filter because if the betta gets stuck to it it will kill him and I don't want to explain that to my son.

I purchased this for my 13 year old daughter for her room. She had been begging for a fish tank and I needed one she could take care of by herself, this is such easy care it came with everything vital needed. I got the rest of the plants and things at petsmart because the price was lower and the fish at a local pet store, her tank is so cute. I have to say the fish HATE the light! They hide whenever it is turned on, there is no way to adjust the brighness if it and to be honest she didn't care for it either because it was so bright. All in all the price on Amazon is $40.00 or more cheaper than anywhere else around so it's a GREAT buy. Oh, one other downside, since it was for a girl on my end and it being in her bedroom...she does her hair, alll the time and she HAS to leave the room to spray perfume, hairspray etc due to it having a completley open top. I can see that being a problem for other families so consider that when you purchase it, and where it will be placed with other pets and or children.

We have a Lakeland terrier and an Affenpinscher both love this toy and play with it in different ways. The terrier bats it around until the treats come out, the Affenpinscher tries to bite it and pick it up.

Well, the Affenpinscher managed to fit her lower jaw through one of the side dispensing holes and could not get out. Lots of screaming and blood I'm afraid before we managed to cut it off her.

So if your dog has a small lower jaw, please be careful no way the Lakeland's jaw could ever fit through that small hole, but the Affenpinscher was small enough.

My 10 yr old Golden had grown bored with her toys. I discovered this treat dispenser and she now has a new favorite toy. Apparently, for a brief time anyway, PetSmart carried these toys. (Contempo.) I came across them late though, and bought the pink model at about half the price it is here on Amazon. Only because PetSmart had already sent it to the clearance bin! I can't imagine why!

I bought this toy as a birthday present for our Lab mix who loves puzzles and a little challenge. I put some of her Blue Buffalo dry food in here and set the slot just barely big enough. She has a great time with it.

Now, for a con... Due to it's design, when it's empty she can (and will) chew on the plastic top. So this is not a toy I leave out for her. We do love it though!

This product does not hold a lot of dog food not even a cup. And the holes are too big. My puppy was able to get all the food out of there within a couple of minutes. I did adjust the setting to restrict the flow of food from bottom to top. I will try to reduce the size of the holes but for the price I should not have to spend time and effort to make this a usable dispenser. Save your money or buy the tug-a-jug or bob-a-lot.

Update 12/27/2012 I used duct tape to close one hole and reduce the size of another so now it takes my puppy a little longer to get the food out.

Zoo Med Nano 501 External Canister Filter

Was looking for a small external to better filter my heavily stocked and planted 6 gallon Fuval Edge. This 501 will actually fit in the space behind where the HOB filter sits out of sight. The flow rate is perfect and not overly strong for little tanks and little fishes Perfect!

My main complaint was with the hanger that came with this. I had to modify it with extension arms for my rattan clad 7.5 gallon hex tank while it's main rival, the TOM Rapid Mini's hanger was perfect. The hoses and intake/outtake accessories that come with the 501 are far superior to that of the Rapid Mini and will accommodate a wide variety of aquariums. This canister also has a large sponge filter for final stage filtering while the TOMs has none. I did not care for the 501's non-reusable carbon/bag and replaced it with a reusable Seapora 3X5" filter bag (fits perfectly) using Seachem Renew which I prefer over carbon filtration in planted tanks. Since this filter uses 120V AC, a GFCI is mandatory. Besides the hanger issue, the instructions advise to put the ceramic filter media above the carbon bag while the picture on the box shows the opposite.

Do note that this filter costs about 50% more than the TOM but that's due to the Zoo Med being made in Italy while the TOM is made in China. BTW, I own both but after buying new hoses and supporting parts for the TOM, the final cost was about the same for both.

I have had this filter for about 3 weeks now, and it works well. Set up took me about 1 hour because you have to put the filter media in and cut the plastic intake and return tubes to the correct length to fit your aquarium. I used a utility knife, and it was hard to cut. My aquarium water was a touch cloudy when I started using this filter (that's why I bought it) and after letting it run for 3 days the water stayed cloudy. I had make a full water change before it cleared-up, so this filter is no miracle worker for clear water.

This is my first canister filter, and I'm pleased with the results. I've purchased two more for two of my other planted betta (halfmoon plakat) tanks. I'm hesitant to use it with my long-finned halfmoon betta tank (I don't think he could handle the current, unless I could figure out how to baffle it really well).

Purchased this item at Pet Co and love it! We have a 29 gallon tank and it takes up the entire right side. We have 4 medium sized goldfish, and it is just the right size for their comfort. To put as a grouping (the left side castle), you will need at least a 50 gallon tank OR 30 gallon tank with smaller fish. Looks great with black rock or tan color, as it makes the castle really pop! The reason for 4 stars, rather than 5: I had already purchased the right side castle prior to buying this one. While they are similar, the color is slightly off. I would recommend, if you are going to use as a set, make sure you purchase together, rather than individual pieces. (Duh! on my part)

I researched CO2 injection for months and considered doing the whole DIY with yeast and then I found this setup for my 10 gallon tank, planted aquarium. Going with this is much more convenient then a messy DIY. I received these on time and with no issues. Packaged well and I had this thing up and running about five minutes after opening the box. Plants love it and so do I.

This was a complete waste of my time and money. If you do not loosen the regulator slow enough you will blow a hugh co2 bubble into your tank causing water to splash out. The little co2 canister only lasted me 1 week. I bought the fluval 88g co2 kit and could not be happier.

this system covers all the basics. My original order came with a leaking regulator but fluval replaced it at no extra charge. The co tanks are small and expesive to replace so although this system works great you'll be investing in alot of co tanks.. and the only company that makes replacement co2 tanks for this system is fluval. you can't buy generic tanks, they wont fit into the regulators threads. But its the only co system that has 100% diffusion, so its a small price to pay for healthy looking plants..

Just to let people you are able to use 16 gram threaded CO2 disposable tanks. I pick up 25 on ebay for 25 bucks with free shipping. So far I love my system for my 10 gallon tank. I fill both chambers 2 times a day when my lights are on. So far my plants have been growing like crazy ever since i deployed this system.

This piece has an odd odor inside. As I cleaned it for my tank I noticed the paint was coming off the underneath. Each time I scrubbed more came off. I left it a few days, wet it and scrubbed again. More paint came off and the odor is till there. Since this happens with clear water, I decided NOT to put it in my tank. I fear the finish will come off slowly and pollute my tank and fish. I ordered two, so now they sit on my shelf.

I bought this for my 55 gallon tank, and I thought it would be perfect, but it is a bit smaller than what I expected. If you had a 20 gallon or a ten gallon it would be a perfect size.

The detailing is good, and it is hallow. If you don't want to worry about gunk inside all the crannies simply fill it with silcone. It came well packaged and quickly.

I bought 2 of these for my 50 gallon tank, it shipped quickly and arrived sooner than expected. It was squished and bent from packaging, but can easily be manipulated back into shape. It has a heavy base, making it easy to place. The flower itself is wonderful, I love how it looks underwater. The pale pink is a nice touch to a natural looking aquarium. My only complaint is that one of stems had come apart from the base and slid up off the wire, but a little fish-safe glue fixed that. Will buy again.

There's a curvature to the handle and the business end of the brush, though the product image makes it hard to see. In effect, you are only using the edge of the scrubber pad, not the entire surface. I have to make multiple passes over each spot to clean off algae. Also have to repeatedly remove crud from the scrub pad before I can continue. This makes scrubbing a large tank rather tedious.

Finally, it is easier for me to clean the aquarium glass with this 22-inch handle algea scrubber. I've been using this for a couple of months and it won't scratch the glass. Highly recommended product.

I have updated this review May, 2013 to talk about the product, too.

This light has been in service for almost two years, now. It has performed well and provides adequate light for my entire freshwater tank.

It has not failed. Maybe you will have good luck with it, too. I have found it to be superior to their earlier product in every way.

I was loathe to buy it, because I was very unhappy with the manufacturer. It was the best product available for my specific application.

As I explained in my original review...

I have the previous generation Powerbrite LED systems. I have 2 10K modules, about 16 months (warranty is one year), and one module just went bad two out of four LEDs failed (so far).

The other module is still working OK, so I assume I got a defective module. OK, this sort of thing happens. It's always especially frustrating when it happens just a little ways out of warranty.

Since it's really just a small period out from under warranty, I contacted support to see if it could be repaired. No. And it cannot be replaced, since that model is out of production. Too bad. Throw the whole thing away.

Overall, until the failure, I was relatively satisfied with the product, which I realize was a very early LED solution I was an early adopter.

But the company is a different story. I contacted customer support, and expected them to do something anything at all to make me happier or at least feel better about about doing business with their company.

Support was professional, but offered nothing beyond, "sorry can't help you."

And it's really kind of a total loss, because I can't even carry over the old power supply to their current offerings.

For me as an unsatisfied consumer, there is a surprising hole in that there is no way to pass feedback on to the company about my consumer experiences.

I guess it's another immature hi-tech engineering-oriented company whose focus is really just on developing new products.

Although their products do not have the water depth penetration of some of their competitors, they have an alluring product line.

My experience leads me to caution potential buyers that Current may not offer much support for what they sell if you run into trouble.

And a year goes by pretty quickly these days.

I would like to write the CEO to very politely tell him what my experience was with his company's product and why I chose to replace it with a different manufacturer's product.

This consumes my personal time and energy, but I frequently do this just to make sure the management has a good picture of what's going on within the company they head.

He/she's not possible to find in fact no individual is and the company offers no avenue for customer feedback.

I have a message in to support asking who I can contact to pass on my feelings about their products. No response.

That's not a corporate culture I want to encourage with my business, which is a shame I think they have innovative products.

Maybe support has gotten better with time.

After a lifetime in hi-tech, I think these companies have a vested self-interest in helping the aquarist community feel ready to make the leap to LED lighting solutions.

I don't know what it is like to deal with some of the companies offering higher-priced solutions, but with Current, it looks like you are on your own, working without a net. Offering me a partial trade-in would have gotten these guys my support. Giving me someone to talk to would have been a good start. Being unwilling to even explain why they were unwilling to do either is just a good way to lose my business.

Fluval Filter/Light Cube with Transformer and Media Replacement for Fluval Chi 19L Aquarium Kit

I bought this filter to replace the filter that came with my Fluval Chi. The first part of the review will be for the filter I ordered off Amazon and the second review will be for the filter that it was supposed to replace.

The replacement filter:

When the filter arrived it made a rattling sound when I took it out of the box like something inside was broken. When I plugged the filter in the water pump didn't work making the unit useless. It was returned.

The original filter:

After only having my Fluval Chi for two moths the tab on the filter door that keeps the filter media inside broke off. This caused the filter door to sometimes fall open when it was in tank and also open every time I pulled the filter out of the tank to clean it. This let all of the fish waste that has been trapped by the filter to go back into the tank. Soon after the tab on the filer door broke the light on the top of the fountain stopped working. Then the light switch that controls the light for the tank broke off....

All in all I was very disappointed with the quality of this filter (I'm starting to feel that way about all Fluval products). Fluval is usually considered a superior brand in the fish keeping hobby but this product did not live up to the Fluval reputation. I would not recommend purchasing this filter.

My tank's cube fell apart and I didn't want to have to purchase the entire set up. This new cube works great and saved me enough to buy extra filters, too.

I am pleased with the ease and speed of the amazon service. However, the product itself seems to be of less quality than the original filter/light cube I had.

Issues with original: the light switch broke and the light was stuck on which causes to much stress for the fish and the algae was growing like crazy.

Issues with replacement: the box does not sit perfectly horizontal (it tilts forward) so that the water does not flow over all edges evenly and the strength of the pump is not as good and thus the water is unable to flow up into the rock basket and create a waterfall at that level.

If I was that handy/skilled I would take the good components of both cubes into one so it worked as it should.

Trap holes are to large. Fry get stuck in holes or just go thru into main tank. Bottom blocking floor holes cover floats up and down with water movement killing baby fish. Come on people this isnt rocket science. Build them better.

I actually purchased this with the plan of using it as an in-tank refugium (salt-water tank), and it looks like it will be just fine for what I want it to do. In fact, with the way it sits in the tank, I might be tempted to start growing some Mangroves out of it as well. The one thing that kind of bugs me is the "hooks": they're nice because you can bend them to your tank rim, but they're a little short which doesn't leave much room for height/depth adjustability. Plus, the way the box attaches to the hooks (just sits on their via slots on the back), isn't all that secure; especially since the box floats a tiny bit with the current. So if the manufacturer provided a rigid box-to-hook connection and gave anywhere from 3-6 inches more length for the hooks (would also allow me to create extra bends, which would also allow the box to sit flatter against the glass...hopefully), I would give this 5 stars, but currently, I'll stick with my slightly generous 4 star rating.

I was very excited to get this bag to use as a training tool for my new puppy. I got it and started to use it and within @2 weeks, the hinge failed and I was no longer able to open the pouch at all! I exchanged the item thinking it was just a fluke but the second one also failed after @2 weeks. Very disappointed that an expensive treat bag was so poorly made. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

I've had an Outward Hound treat bag like this in the past and it was terrific. Bought this one as a replacement as we lost the other in a move. Ready for the first puppy class, I loaded up and away we went. Within 30 minutes the snap shut mechanism had broken making it impossible to close the bag. I hope it was just a fluke and that I got a lemon, but it sure was an expensive lemon!

I have purchased 3 of these treat bags one from amazon and two from a local pet store. The hinge fails within several uses. I have tried to repair the hinge but once failed cannot be resurrected. I prefer this size/ shape treat bag to the round pouches which don't facilitate quick access to training treats but can't/ won't continue to waste money on a product that clearly is defective. (Other hinged treat bags have the same hinge defect.)

Actually I would give this product a 4.5 start rating if I could. This is the second Outward Hound treat bag that I have purchased and use it every day with my dog. I love the fact that there are 2 internal compartments along with the mesh compartment on the outside. I use one of the compartments inside to stash a few dollars and my lip balm, and the other of course for treats. I usually put a poop bag in the mesh compartment outside. I also like the adjustable waist strap. I can cinch it down in the summer when I'm not wearing a coat and give myself more room to go over a heavy winter coat. Other bags I tried before these clipped onto my belt, but would never stay on. They could be eaily knocked off.

There are 2 issues with this bag. The mesh compartment is not deep so things can fall out and I have lost a poop bag or two. (That's OK I always carry multiple). The bigger issue is the bag "pops" open using a thin metal band covered in the fabric. You have to be careful because over time ( at least on the last one I had) that metal cracked/broke and ripped through the fabric. I covered it with duck tape but it got bad enough that I would scratch my hand on it. I finally tossed it and got a new one. I just try to open and close the pouch as few times as I can.

I would recommend it.
