Exotic Environments Oriental Vase Aquarium Ornament

This ornament has been in use for a few months now. I has shown no signs of wear or fading. It was a great addition to my 55 gallon goldfish aquarium

I sort of figured that the quality of this item was only going to be mediocre because other companies were selling this for 3-4 times the price. It is marked hand painted, but I think it must have been a toddler who painted it. The lines that would guide the "painters" that are embedded into the actual vase are very clear, but the paint itself looks like it was just slapped on, and doesn't come anywhere near being in the lines. I have even considered for aesthetic purposes buying an aquarium safe paint set in similar colors so I can redo it myself it is that bad. The only up side is that my fish really loves the multiple holes to swim in and out of. My advice, if you care how the item looks, spend a little extra and buy the more expensive one. May sound like a harsh review, but for someone who likes to actually look in their fish tank, it really takes away from the whole aquarium scene, and distracts me from looking at my beautiful fish because it stands out so much. Wish I would've spent a little more myself...may still do that, depending on the cost of the paint it may be cheaper. Either way, it won't be staying in the tank as it is.

Co2 Bubble Counter

I've been using this on my 20 gallon planted tank for about 4 years and so far it's been great. The only issue I've ever had is when I clean it. Taking it apart and cleaning it is super easy and I do it about once a year. The first 2 times I had a bit of trouble putting it back together. The O-ring on the fitting really makes it a tight fit and it has to go back together just right. I later found out that most people put a tiny amount of Vaseline or even a drop of cooking oil on the O-ring when they clean em out and that makes it much simpler to put back together, and besides, it's good for the O-ring. Kinda wish I knew about that sooner. I thought about giving this 4 stars but because it's lasted for so long (outlasted 3 filters) and is still as good as the day I got it... 5 seems fitting.

Oh, the other reviewer seems to have thought this was a Co2 diffuser. It's not. This is a bubble counter that goes on the outside of the tank.

Big Co2 bubbles coming out from the side of the disc. I tried to fix it by using waterproof glue but it doesnt solve the problem.

I used it for just 2 days and paid around $24. A waste of money. I went back using a glass diffuser for $9 and works better.

Not worth even for just 1 STAR Rating. Dont buy it.

basically this stuff is all hotglued together and falls apart if you look at it wrong.

do not buy!

What they amount to are 3 stem pieces hot glued into the base. On 2 of the 5, 1 stem of each fell out before I even got them. Opened the package & 2 stems fell out. Fortunately I do have a hot glue gun to borrow.

Other than being 'broken" upon arrival? They are as pictured.

EDIT: It turns out that hot glue can't hold under water, but Super Glue can! :)

I wasn't sure what I could expect but this item really works well. It's super powerful! I can make it follow the one from the outside to switch sides and you can really feel it pull. I use it on my 75 gallon. I would be careful though toward the bottom of your tank only because if you catch any gravel you'd definitely scratch your tank.

I have big Severums, a huge Oscar, a large Salvini, and a smallish but plucky Convict as well as Raphael and Pictus catfish that LOVE this stuff. I shake the bag and tell them what to expect, and they line up at the top of the tank. They know the pellets sink, so they jockey for position at the top to be able to catch it.

I use it about 5 times a week and also provide other food like bloodworms, tubifex worms, spirulina flakes, various cichlid pellets (sinking or floating), and freeze dried crickets for variety. It is less expensive online than in local stores, so it is affordable.

Most of all, I credit this food as a a valuable replacement for live food. Why would I not want to use live food? 2 reasons. First, most fishes raised as food for other fishes are in bad shape and introduce diseases to your cichlids. (Also, I dislike supporting the barbaric treatment of fishes used as live food by buying them.) Second, this is important if you want a group of cichlids to live (somewhat) peacefully together, for the practice of releasing live fish in tanks for cichlids to chase and hunt for their food promotes predation and territoriality in cichlids. I figure that my cichlids now must adapt to a life in a home aquarium with other fish in a limited space, so I need to calm down their aggressive instincts as much as possible.

I have fed all of my fish since I got them at an inch or so long with this food (broken into smaller bits depending on their size) rather than using live food. I credit this food for encouraging these potentially hostile fish to live together more harmoniously since without live food to chase they have never exercised their hunting instincts, which I suspect would lead them to look at one another as delicious prey. As a result, as I kept getting larger and larger tanks to accommodate their growth my cichlids were able to interact more peacefully with new tank mates from other tanks. While I am not going so far as to claim that peace, love, and understanding reign in my big cichlid tanks, I think that this food helps to diffuse the political situation among the cichlids!

I purchased these some months ago for my Birchir Fish, as he needs a high protein level than my smaller tropical fish do. He will not get near other brands when I run out of these, so I have bought several packs here to keep on-hand [they stay fresh for several years when kept intact from the manufacturer, once opened they are fresh for up to 6 months or so].

Lee's The Ultimate Gravel Vac 25' Kit

I have three (soon to be five) tanks, and after setting up the third I quickly realized that lugging buckets for all of them twice a week just wasn't an option. I purchased the Lee's gravel vac and haven't looked back since! It is wonderful, and works perfectly. It is true that the plastic adapter that it comes with must be replaced, but $6 and a trip to the hardware store solves that issue. It hardly makes the product "useless", unless you're ridiculous enough to toss it over such a small issue. The lower price point more than makes up for the small fix.

It is an identical product to some of the pricier ones (such as Python), but works just as well. I would highly recommend it to anyone with multiple tanks or with large tanks who is tired of hauling buckets!

I ordered this product mainly to clean my 95 gallons fish pond. It does a great job. For my fish tank though, the tube is too long for the kitchen sink water pressure. I've had a python for 5 years and was stupid last time I put it away and didn't make sure all the water was out of it and behold, mold! The hose is long enough to reach from our family room to the basement sink through an air vent. The only problem I've experienced is that the valve that is used to regulate the water either to the sink or to the aquarium leaks some making it a little inefficient. I've been keeping Fancy Goldfish for over 35 years if I've learned anything it's the more varied the diet the better. Spectrum has always produced a quality food rich in real fish protein, essential amino acids and fats and the size is just right.

With the larger pellets your fish gobbles them up in a nano second, the smaller pellets mean more "fun time" foraging for food and digging around the substrate.

The average life span of Fancy Goldfish "should" be around 15 years however it seems most usually never make it past few years. Active in many Goldfish forums and attending shows for many years the question I'm asked most frequently is why my fish life so long.

There isn't one simple answer to this question but there are a few time proven guidelines that are essential:

* Buy your fish from a US based breeder from Japanese stock. Local pet stores import sub quality fish from China they are the equivalent of Puppy Mills for goldfish and almost always have genetic flaws that lead to death.

* Room is everything. Over crowding will eventually wipe out your entire tank. Follow the rule of thumb 30 gallons for one fish 10 gallons per additional fish.

* Weekly water changes of at least 25% are essential

* Healthy and varied diet

I supplement their diet with Zoo Meds Spurunila flakes which they go crazy for which is another excellent food made here in the USA and free of preservatives, blanched veggies such as spinach, squash and shelled cooked peas (which are excellent for cleaning out the digestive tract of most any fish).

Spectrum is a tremendous value and well rounded food. The fact that they use krill and Squid meal is a huge advantage. There is a loop hole in AFCO guidelines that allow pet food manufacturers to list an ingredient by weight before it's cooked.

As most meat is over 60% water this is deceptive because the true weight after cooking would place the ingredient from the top of the list to near the bottom. Choosing a food with specific ingredients like Krill, Squid, White fish and so on is imperative as vague listings like "fish" or "meat" allow the manufacturer to use contaminated and or rancid products all determined by market price.

Spectrum lists specific fish and proteins which are in meal form and therefore have the highest percentage of protein in relationship to quantity and weight.

Simply a superior food in every way.

This food has a good formulation for goldfish. I have a black moor that has been sick for over a year. His water is good, a couple of local fish experts and stores have been helping me, and we can't figure it out. He goes back and forth. I keep his water as healthy as possible and these really help. He looks a lot better when he's eating high quality food. Goldfish are scavengers and they need the mix of protein and veggies that are in this. I like the hard pellets because they are easy for my fish to eat and the keep the water clean. I think this is one of the best balanced foods for my fish. I also give him frozen peas (thawed, without the skins) and those are good for him too. The only reason it does not get 5 stars is that this stuff is expensive for gold-fish food. However, it's much better priced online and it does last a long time.

I have always fed flake gold fish food until now. This product is liked by my goldfish and cori-peppered catfish. The pellets sink quickly, but the fish do not seem to mind. I feed small amounts so there has been no problem with water cloudiness.

The goldies like this food, but two cautions: it's not for small goldfish (too big) and it clouds the water somewhat. The fish like them and I have a whole jar, so I'm adding a few pellets to their standard pellet food (that doesn't cloud the water). Also note that it sinks very fast, unlike other pellets that sink more slowly.

I bought this filter to replace the filter that came with my Fluval Chi. The first part of the review will be for the filter I ordered off Amazon and the second review will be for the filter that it was supposed to replace.

The replacement filter:

When the filter arrived it made a rattling sound when I took it out of the box like something inside was broken. When I plugged the filter in the water pump didn't work making the unit useless. It was returned.

The original filter:

After only having my Fluval Chi for two moths the tab on the filter door that keeps the filter media inside broke off. This caused the filter door to sometimes fall open when it was in tank and also open every time I pulled the filter out of the tank to clean it. This let all of the fish waste that has been trapped by the filter to go back into the tank. Soon after the tab on the filer door broke the light on the top of the fountain stopped working. Then the light switch that controls the light for the tank broke off....

All in all I was very disappointed with the quality of this filter (I'm starting to feel that way about all Fluval products). Fluval is usually considered a superior brand in the fish keeping hobby but this product did not live up to the Fluval reputation. I would not recommend purchasing this filter.

My tank's cube fell apart and I didn't want to have to purchase the entire set up. This new cube works great and saved me enough to buy extra filters, too.

I am pleased with the ease and speed of the amazon service. However, the product itself seems to be of less quality than the original filter/light cube I had.

Issues with original: the light switch broke and the light was stuck on which causes to much stress for the fish and the algae was growing like crazy.

Issues with replacement: the box does not sit perfectly horizontal (it tilts forward) so that the water does not flow over all edges evenly and the strength of the pump is not as good and thus the water is unable to flow up into the rock basket and create a waterfall at that level.

If I was that handy/skilled I would take the good components of both cubes into one so it worked as it should.

My CPO Crayfish love these... I'll find them climbing all over them and hiding in the tubes. One thing to note however, the tubes are glued in the form you see them, no way to change how they are formed.

The light is very nice and ZooMed has several bulbs to choose from. I have a 55 gallon tank with a glass top to prevent fish from jumping out. How this thing sits you can not have a glass top and must have an open aquarium, because the hinged sides slip over the aquarium preventing a glass top from sitting correctly. If you have an open top aquarium I recommend it, but if you have a closed or glass top then no. You can mount it from the ceiling but that is a pain.

Needed some T5 HO lighting for an upcoming 20 tall. Checked out a few different options, but reviews from amazon and other sites kept leading me back to this Zoo Med lighting system. For the price, it can't be beat, especially based on reviews of competitor models which flunked out shortly after purchase. I believe the Zoo Med model overcomes that issue because it's a little larger and allows for better airflow over the electronics.

In the box you'll find the legs, which are adjustable for width. The lighting frame alsi has a built in channel with a cable receiver thingy.. basically, you can hang the light if you wish, and this receiver thingy is what lets you do that. Mine included some steel wire to do such, I'm not sure if they all do.

The best feature is that you can "swing" the lighting open, if you're using the legs. There's a hinge system built-in, so you can lift the light system up and reach into your tank or feed/maintain as necessary. It also allows easy access to the bulbs.

Overall, I was really impressed with the product design and the price I paid.

I can't comment on the light yet because it is brand new, but when this item arrived, one of the bracket screws was broken (the wide head snapped off in shipping). I was dreading packaging everything up and returning to Amazon, so I popped a quick email to Zoo Med and within a couple of hours I got a response and a replacement screw was mailed out.

This may seem like a small thing, but I have had much less positive experiences with a number of other pet product vendors in the past, so I wanted to give them props!

This light will be used in a 28 gallon bowfront, heavily planted in a soil substrate with no CO2 but some Flourish Excel dosing. I'll comment on success in a couple of months :)

This is the best light I have ever owned. It is easy to turn on and if you get the correct lights, it will support your live plants.

The only problem is that the protector was hard to come off and CHIPPED. I had to remove it to install lights. OH, that reminds me, for all of you looking for good lights, IT DOES NOT INCLUDE LIGHTS! But I knew that before. It does need to make that clear though.

ONE THING I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH.

You would think with an original price of over $200 and a buying price of over $100, you would think it cam with A LONGER CORD. This thin is like 3 feet long >:(

I have only had the light for a few days so I can not say anything about longevity of this product. Also, I purchased it for plant growth and I can not attest to this either but that would be inaccurate even in long term due to the differences in potential bulb selection.

PROS:

DUAL SWITCHES!!! This is an amazing feature if you need to turn one off to control algae and is what steered me to go for this lamp over many others!

COST. Compared to other dual T% HO fixtures this one runs at about half the price and seems to be a great product.

QUALITY FEEL. Although I can not attest to longevity, the light feels very durable and is actually a metal casing and not plastic. Power cord is thick and sturdy.

REFLECTOR. Comes with a highly polished reflector already in the lamp. Also has the plastic window below the bulbs for protection from water and it slides in and out of place very easily.

CONS:

Short power cord, unless the outlet is right next to the tank you WILL need an extension cord. Also the power cord is on one side and the dual switches on the other. Every other light I have owned has had switches and the cord on one side, the back, so this is different for me but at least it has switches unlike the Hagen Glo system.

Also the overall size of this product seems big! The bulbs housing seems very large for what it needs to be. Also the mounting options including hanging, bolting to the side of the aquarium which makes it impossible to use a hood, or placing it directly onto the top of the glass top. I wish it had legs so you can elevate it and just place it on the top of the hood. I plan on having a custom sheet of glass cut to allow for the light to be bolted onto the tank.

CONCLUSION:

Great light for a great price! The difference in light reflected into my aquarium is huge compared to the standard T8 fixture. The dual switches is an amazing option to have and the quality feels good and sturdy. I cant say for sure but if you wanted to replace the ballast in the light it looks like there is enough room to expand to a 3 or 4 light fixture. Would buy again and recommend to others.

UPDATE 1 year later

It seems the you get what you pay for comes to mind again. It was always difficult to get bulbs in and out because the ballast is cheap but within a year one of them is broken to the point you can not get a bulb to light up and the second one is very loose and temperamental. The only thing this fixture has over many other ones is the dual switches. The price is cheap but it does not come with bulbs which at 10-20 a piece would put you at a 70-90 buck fixture, why not spend an extra 20 bucks and get a way better fixture with bulbs included. Just ordered an aquaticlife dual bulb fixture and the zoomed will be a thing of the past

The stems of the plants tend to detach a bit too easily when putting them in your tank, so often when cleaning the tank, a stalk will come floating to the surface and has to be re-attached.

That complaint I have had with most of the many fake plants I have purchased, no matter how much I have spent, so I wouldn't say this is a bad product, especially for the price range.

The plant leafs are very red, more than it looked in the picture. A small piece fell off while I was rinsing it off but I was able to reattach it.

I didn't think much of it looking at the picture, but it was the right size and price so I tried it. I actually really like how it looks. The connections on the stems are easily broken though, but in the past 6 months with gentle cleanings, only 2 leaves have come off and I was able to stick them back on.
