I have three of these 24" units over my 72" long 125 gallon tank.

They are great for my purposes of growing plants, but I will give the pros and cons as I suspect that the negatives may outweigh the positives to many people.

Pros:

Great lighting that makes the tank and the fish look gorgeous!

My tank is freshwater, and I can grow any kind of plant I want with these lights! I also credit Purigen and Sea Chem fertilizers for my success with plants).

As my tank is filled with new growths of easy plants that tolerate less light but flourish in higher illumination like java moss or hornwort almost every week, I routinely produce new plants for my other tanks with standard T8 lighting.

Cons:

Because these lights are bright, they run hot, making the fan on the fixture loud. One of my three lights routinely gets stuck in a noise pattern in which a hum developed near the fan vent which is on the top of the fixture and keeps getting louder and LOUDER. Although I can quiet the light by (gently) thwacking on the fan, I doubt that this is very good for the light in the long run! The noise overwhelms any noise coming from my Eheim and Penn Plax canister filters, so if you are noise sensitive forget these lights unless you are good at fixing this type of thing.

There are TWO light bulbs on the fixture, and a replacement light bulb for these fixtures are quite expensive, so you have to shop around in order to spend a bundle on a light bulb.

Again, the look of my planted aquarium and the production of plants outweighs these (admittedly big) negatives to me, but you must decide for yourself.

I needed a light fixture of this length for a project. The fixture had to be of good quality and very reliable-no funky power failures or over-heating. This unit has performed flawlessly. It looks great and works great. NO problems. Buy with confidence.

I just received this light for my tank on Friday. Very disappointed in the quality of the light fixture. The bulb connections are very poor and I had difficulty getting the lights to light. After much twisting of the bulbs in and out I finally got all four bulbs to light but not without sparks on one of the connection and then the unit starting to smoke and make crackling noises. As soon as I placed it on my tank the white bulbs went out again. After tinkering with them they came back on. Then the atinic bulbs went out. I decided that this light is a fire hazard and went back to my old light. I will be returning this light to the Seller. In addition, you have a separate plug for the fan on this light which I think is dumb. The fan should come on automatically with the light and go on a off with the heat of the light. Yes, this light was cheap but I once again, I got what I paid for. A piece of junk. I just wish there was a review from Amazon on this light so I would have known. So I am putting one on now for future buyers.

ok so i set up this light today and i thought it was good at fist until i got my hands wet. i dipped my hand in the tank the took them out and wiped them with a paper towel so the were just a little wet but not dripping or anything then i touched the top of the light and got a really bad electric shock. it really was bad because if im am also ever leaning over the lght or anything and its not wet if it hits a sensitive nerve like in the elbow or finger tip it hurts to much to even touch it. its like a fear not. its worse then getting shocked by a wall outlet because it just stings the whole body. also the fan is very loud and never goes off and its on a separate plug so it has to be on a timer. other then that it works.

If you need something quiet, look elsewhere, the fan in this thing is pretty loud. Other than that, I had great PAR values coming from this light with ATI and Geissman bulbs in it. Grew out all types of corals, but probably not as fast as they could have.

JW Pet Company 12-Inch Anchorstone Sand Airstone Aquarium Accessory

This is my setup: 55 gallon tank, Rena 400 Air Pump, Lok Tite 5 Outlet Air Control Valve, Undergravel Filter with 4 upright tubes. My Air pump has two outlets and both of those are connected to the Air Control Valve. 4 of the outlets from the Air Control Valve run the air stones in the undergravel filter and the fifth outlet runs this 12" air stone.

It does exactly what I wanted it to do. It has a nice curtain of bubbles along the center of the back of my tank. I don't have it buried in the gravel because it is already hidden by rock and driftwood, and it is heavy enough to stay on the bottom. Between this air stone and the air stones in the undergravel filter, a really good surface current is created. That circulates the water from back to front along the surface and down the front of the tank. My danios love swimming against the flow.

Originally, I had this stone as one of two air stones off the same airline DON'T do that. You will be disappointed with the bubbles from both stones. If you do have more than one stone, be sure to have an air pump that can handle it and a multi-valve air controller so you can control the amount of air through the stone.

I like that it sinks to the bottom and stays there with the air on. Only half of the line produces steady bubbles though. I need to buy another two to complete the bubble wall along the back of the aquarium.

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere. These worked perfectly, sending bubbles up the entire length of the airstone! They also stayed put on the bottom. Good deal!

This airstone worked okay for approximately 2-3 weeks. Now there are whole sections where no bubbles come out at all and bubbles have started coming out at both ends disappointed to say the least.

Cat Mate Elite Wall Liner

I put my Cat Mate Elite Super Selective door through an outside wall in my house so I ordered an extension liner as recommended. Unfortunately, they really only add a couple of inches to the tunnel, so I needed to order two more. With a total of three wall liners I was able to make a very nice, waterproof tunnel for my furry family. They fit together perfectly but there is no real "adjustment" room. They're either connected or they're not, so you should measure your opening depth carefully and get one of these for every two inches extra you need to cover.

Like I said, for an exterior home wall I needed three. For a regular interior door you should not need any, and for a regular interior wall, even though it recommends a liner, I would be willing to bet that you would need two.

The door installed perfectly and easily in my wall. I needed and purchased two wall liners, which worked well. The Locking mechanism works well with the collar tag; haven't had any issues yet, BUT my cat has still not gotten used to the SOUND the system makes when it is unlocking. The cat refuses to go through it at all and has ended up using various places within our house as a new impromptu litter box. When I would coax (read: kindly shove) the cat through the door, it would seemingly not take issue with the sound, and would go through relatively willingly; however when we would go to work for the day I guess she decided it wasn't worth the risk that there might be some hidden guillotine built into the door, and would instead use our carpet, tile, clean laundry basket, etc as a litter box. We never had this issue with the previous (non-locking) cat door that this one replaced. Now we have effectively left this door in the 'unlocked' mode for the last month which defeats the purpose of us buying a relatively expensive electronic locking cat door.

(by the way, we DID do all the recommended 'training' recommended by the manual just when we put it back in the locking mode, the sound freaks the cat out :( ).

ViaAqua 100-Watt Quartz Glass Submersible Heater with Built-In Thermostat

This heater has no problem keeping a 10 gallon tank up to temp. The temp reading on the front is easy to see with it's orange coloring. The included mounting clip is sturdy with large suction cups that easily keep the heater in place.

It's not noted in the item info but this heater operates from 68 to 93 degrees. Good for tanks that need a higher temp for some tropical fish.

I bought this for two baby yellow bellied sliders. They seem to be doing fine and I believe it has helped stimulate appetite. The temperature was pretty accurate according to the built in thermostat. I have it running 80 degrees farenheit. It was only a few degrees higher than what it was supposed to be when I measured with a digital thermometer. I also have this at an angle even though it says in the instructions that it is a no no to do so. There is a caution in the manual that says something like wash your hands after handling with the product because it contains chemicals that are known to cause cancer and birth defects...I don't know what that could be though...The whole unit has been submerged with no problems. The heater does a good job of regulating the heat. Note: do not place the water outlet of your filter right on the heater. It will cause a temperature drop and cause the unit to heat up uneccessarily. Has a nice light that turns on to let you know when it is heating.

Got this the other day after another heater I had purchased was not working. I like how you can adjust it to the temperature you want and it's very easy to see the on light when it's working. It's been keeping my tank at a stable temperature for a few days. I have noticed that it is off by about 3 maybe 4 degrees but that's not a big deal plus I'm using it in a 10g tank. The one I have is fully submersible and the directions have a picture that clearly shows the whole unit under water. Hopefully it stays working in the weeks to come.

I bought this after buying another heater from walmart. Dont buy from walmart. Their products are poorly made, and break after a few days. This heater is great! My heater is set to 76 degrees and my tank is 76 degrees.

Installed the heater and observed the temperature for about 5 hours. When I left for work, everything is fine.....when I returned from work 7/10 of my little guys were dead. The three that survived were a Betta and two snails. I work from 7pm-7am and when I walked through the door I bee-lined to the tank to see how their doing. Well 7 fish were floating. Not bitten or chewed(I inspected them). The temp was like 89 or 90! I set the dial to 80F and it stayed that way the whole time I was watching them before work. Idk if the temp in my house dropped so low, and that's why the temp was water high or what. But that was the whole reason I wanted a heater to keep a steady temp!

(I didn't get to name them yet :(

Update:(October 21, 2012)...Time has passed and everything is fine now. I do not alter the temp on the heater at all. And I do have a separate thermometer BTW, you cant really tell what temp the heater displays.

the thermostat works great and is very stable.

I should have set up another tank, yea, but I needed to get a heater in there asap because the water was too cold. Poor fish though.....

The product does what is claims, which is provide heat without light. My iguana loves it because it keeps his big cage nice and cozy, especially his basking spot. It does get quite hot, so make sure you have a thermometer, timer, thermostat, or rheostat to maintain the temperature you're aiming for and that your animal can't touch the bulb. Make sure you have a dome/lamp with a ceramic socket for this bulb. Also, pay attention to how many watts you'll need for the size of the enclosure you're heating. I was able to find this cheaper on Amazon than the pet stores.

Edit: it's been 3 years and this emitter is still working, making it a great value.

Uses standard Edison type base (screw in like 60W light bulbs). Nice output power. Using it to keep chicken's hen-house warm during winter months to extend the laying cycle.

One warning, 150W unit can easily burn through wood. Chickens knocked this fixture loose from it's mounting and burned one of their nesting boxes up.

I love my CHE (ceramic heat emitter) the price may seem prohibitive but they last forever and are cheap to power!

Good Points:

-do not require very much electricity to run so are very cheap

-depending in the lamp fixture you use they can heat either a small basking area or a decent portion of a tank

Downside:

-they get really really hot (281 degrees F on the bulb)! be sure that they are very stable-ly rigged to or above your tank so that they cannot fall easily, as they could be a MAJOR FIRE HAZARD if they were to fall on fabric or some carpets

-make sure that the screen of your tank is not plastic mesh if it is do not put a lamp with this bulb directly on top, it will eventually melt

Please note: Try to minimize touching the bulb directly as the oil on your fingers will shorten the life of the bulb

As long as these are safely used they are fantastic and I cannot recommend them enough, they are so much more environmentally friendly then replacing heating light after heating light

NLS THERA A 1MM SINK 150GM

This is currently the best dry fish food for general marine reef aquarium use. The .5mm Small Fish Thera+A pellets apply here as well big fish may have a problem with these two smallest size pellets, but tangs do quite well with both smallest sizes. Anemones and many corals love it as well. Some fish really go for this food rabidly right from the get-go while some have to get used to pellets, but they do.

I have used Thera+A for about 5 years now, and as my staple food for the last two years since Vibragrow small marine pellets went out of production. Thera+A does wonders for color almost as well as Vibragrow, naturally and helpfully for best fish health as well not just for good healthy color. Thera+A is better in some ways than Vibragrow was, but not quite as good in other ways. Thera+A is still currently king of dry fish foods rest assured.

Some dry fish foods really should not be used as a staple food and will not maintain top health like this one does. Thera+A has not only the wide variety but also the proper variety for maximizing fish health. Thera+A also has garlic which does seem to make some difference as well, in my opinion and in the opinions of many other marine reef hobbyists as well. I used to make my own frozen food mix with very similar variety, and sell it locally too, which also had Selcon ingredients in it as well. It was tops for taste (according to many, many fish) and for variety and health too, but was not so convenient to make or even to feed, and not quite as good on the color enhancement for the fish. The pellet form of Thera+A also locks in the vitamins (and other nutrients), until the fish can eat it, better than flake or frozen foods do.

Some hard to keep fish do at least somewhat better when fed this food, such as the Mandarin Goby which may ignore other foods or just not get the food value from other foods which they must normally must get from live foods (like copepods which grow naturally right in well kept reef aquariums) to give them the specialized nutrition they need to survive and thrive in captivity.

I think the plant is very pretty and the base of it is nice and heavy. I believe it would be a nice addition to my aquarium if I wasn't searching for something taller. This is 7 in. at most. It is not a huge difference but I was already wishing it was a bit taller than 8.3 to begin with so was disappointed when it was even shorter than described. If you aren't concerned about height I would recommend it, as it is attractive. You may also want to note that the purple petals are quite hard. If you are concerned about any delicate fish rubbing on it you may want to reconsider this one.

I had misgivings about this one...i thought it was going to be too loud...it's not. it's really pretty for what it is...had to modify this one for the betta too.

The Ugly: I don't even want to think about my fish swimming around a bunch of metal spikes. Do you?

I received this item yesterday and I am so disappointed. It is very nice to look at and I was excited to plug it in to see it in motion. However, once plugged in, the noise coming from the unit (buzzing/metal sound and cracking noise) made it impossible to relax and watch the fish. Certainly not enjoyable at all.

I ordered this item for an elderly often out-of-it aunt in assisted care in lieu of a real aquarium. She is having trouble using it and claims nothing moves when she plugs it in. I am far from her, and the distributor says they just forward the sealed package and don't know how it works. My aunt says there were no instructions, which may or may not be true. Could someone please post how it works so that I can talk her through it on the phone? Is there a switch to make the fish move? DO they move or does the background move? Submersible Heaters

I wish I could give this product a worse score than 1 star. Purchased this heater from Wal-mart in a pinch because the heater that came with the aquarium broke (was a very cheap one) and I didn't want the temperature to drop since it was winter. Kept an eye on the thing for the first few weeks of having it and everything seemed to be ok. This week the dumb thing short circuited because it got water inside somehow and continually heated the tank. I discovered this when I got home from work. I noticed unusual behavior in a frog I had in the aquarium. On further inspection my other frog was already dead on the bottom of the tank and the water was almost 100 degrees F. The frog that was still alive was just floating in the current from the filter and had a bad fungal infection that had sprouted up overnight. Removed him to a treatment tank and did what we could but the poor guy didn't make it. This is a horrible product. I would not recommend this to anyone and I wish I hadn't bought the product because I lost 2 very dear pets.

I have purchased 3 of these Tetra Heaters in the past 5 months, and all of them have quit. The warranty only allows you to pay shipping both ways, either to fix yours, or they will send another one. I do not want any more of these Tetra heaters, and am looking for another brand. I wouldn't waist your money.

I bought this heater (from WalMart)last week for my 5 gallon tank. When I first put it in the tank the red light came on. After maybe a minute or so the light turned off. I wondered whether or not it was heating the water...

After a couple days I moved the heater to my 10 gallon tank. The light did not come on, even after unplugging and replugging it. It's been in this tank for about three days, and the light hasn't come on. The temperature has actually dropped a few degrees since being in this tank. I will be returning it to the store as soon as possible.

The castles are slightly yellower than they consistently appear in photos online. They are working pretty well, however.

The company's service was excellent when it came to the castles, which showed up quickly and I got what I ordered. I recommend the castles but must rate the company a C+.

However, I ordered a blue critter keeper from a lot of 10 or 20 blue critter keepers from the same company but on e-bay, and they sent me a bright orange critter keeper, and when I complained they asked them to send another blue critter keeper but the CR person checked it, and they had sent a different color. They said that despite advertising a lot of blue critter keepers they in fact had no blue ones. She refunded my money, but the only other thing she did to fix it was say they were changing the wording of their ads.

However, they do seem to have upgraded their customer service from the complaints I've gotten that products showed up late or not at all and they couldn't get a response. I did find customer service prompt and attentive.

Resun Automatic Auto Fish Food Feeder Aquarium

The fish feeder works great i was a little worried because it seemed cheap and there were no reviews on it but i was very pleased. my son was in the hospital so i was barely home except in the middle of the night to grab clothes. it not super load but if your across the room you can hear it and it takes a while to get use to the unusual sound for the house.

you can set how much you want to fall out and set if you want it to go off once or twice a day. how my tank is set up i had to leave the lid open to hook it on (uses a small plastic clamp to hang on, works well) for a normal square tank i would assume it works fine being hooked on to the open back area.

I was looking for a cheap fish feeder to feed my fish while I was away for two weeks on vacation. I tested it out ahead of time (didn't want to come back to dead fish) and it worked fine. However, it was impossible to put together. Maybe I'm more challenged in life than I thought I was, but the instructions were difficult to understand, the machine was cheaply built and the whole thing just seems cheap, but then again it is, so I shouldn't be surprised, and it would be unfair to rate it down because of that.

It does the job and feeds my fish. However, it makes a weird noise when it deposits food, and it's promises of keeping the food watertight and dry don't appear to be entirely true. All that protects the food from splashing or other elements is a thin strip of plastic that doesn't even appear to close all the way.

If you're looking for a cheap feeder just to keep your fish alive for a bit while on vacation, I'd say buy this one. But if you're looking for a long-term feeder, invest in something a little more pricey.

after playing with it for awhile, i noticed it dispenses almost nothing sometimes, then an overload others. Thats after i smashed up the flakes so it would go through better too. It gets the job done i guess but i don't know if i would trust it if i was going on vacation. Food could get lodged in it and then never come out. The directions are pictures with Chinese writing so i had to figure things out on my own.

The feeder works just fine. It doesn't look too big on the side of my little ten gallon, either. You put in the batteries, press a button and the drum with fish food in it rotates to release the food out of a gap. It will release food again 24 hrs after you pressed the button. You have three adjustments to change portions that are given out each rotation.

I bought this volcano to put in a fish tank, a gift to my son on his eighth birthday. I wanted something cool and I got it.

At first I was a little hesitant about the price, but it is well worth it: it is a water feature/light/aerator/decoration all in one product.

I'd do pros and cons but I can't find one thing I don't like about this volcano.

The red LED light goes inside the volcano, which has small, see-through slits in it that are waterproof. The slits allow the red LED light to shine through, giving the effect that the volcano is full of lava, but it does not allow the bubbles to creep out of the cracks. The bubbles only come out of the top as the volcano erupts into thousands of strong, even bubbles.

The aerator actually works inside the tank, something I found really different. The little pump actually sits inside the volcano, along with the LED spotlight. They both fit in there, no problem. It comes with black tubing and a bunch of little black suctions that you can use to arrange the lines wherever you want in the tank. The LED light is high-quality, and buying one light by itself is nearly as much as this whole volcano set up, so this volcano is well worth the money.

The aerator makes TONS of bubbles, so strong and effortlessly. All those bubbles oxygenate the tank wonderfully, energizing the fish, another added benefit of this product.

The hood on my son's new tank has the option of turning on only white or only blue LEDs. When we turn on the blue LEDs the tank turns dark with deep midnight blue undertones. The Red LEDs of the volcano look super-hot and molten. The bubbles are lit with the red LED and then disappear into the blue.

It looks like a volcano is erupting in ice-cold water. Fire and Ice--a super cool combo for my lil' man.

I love this volcano, it was easy to assemble and set up. It looks really nice in the aquarium. The red doesn't show through the volcano itself as much as I expected, but it is still really neat to have an erupting volcano in the tank! I have had it set up for over a month and have had no problems with it thus far.

I found an old 10 gallon aquarium in storage and my son decided he wanted fish. It would have been cheaper to go out and buy a new kit, but then I would still have an extra tank. I wanted to find him something unique for is tank and also could work as a night light. I came across this and passed because of the price. I thought about it for awhile and decided to go with it. My biggest concern was it would be to big for a 10gal tank. I even measured but still was not sure. When I finally got it and got it in tank it takes a back corner of his tank. It does not look bad or oversized at all. The little suction cup cable guides that came with it are great. It takes three cables to run this thing(2 power, 1 air). I ran the cables behind the heater and used the suction cups to hold them in place. It has now been 5 months and the suction cups are still holding strong. The air intake is also adjustable making it nice so you do not have to many bubbles. The red LED is nice. The volcano is designed to let some light thru the sides and most out the top. It gives that corner of his room a nice red glow without being to bright. It looks nice in dark or daylight. In my opinion it is just the right size for a 10 gal tank. I think it might be to small in a 20 gallon or bigger unless it was part of a whole theme.

I love this volcano aquarium decoration. It was very easy to assemble and install and works great. I've had it in the tank for about 2 1/2 months now and still works great I haven't noticed any reduction in air flow and even though I have it mounted a bit deeper than 18 inches, probably 20 inches or so and it still works great and I keep the air control valve fully open at all times to compensate for this.

The only thing I've noticed is that unfortunately LED's DO promote algae growth and I've had to wipe the lens off a few times but a Q-tip works well for this. No big deal. If you seem to notice a reduction in light output, check the lens for algae buildup.

However I wish the LED had an on/off switch. The only way to shut it off is to unplug it.

I love these heaters. We now have a bunch of them to keep horses' water ice-free. We have other types of heaters and even heated buckets but these are my favorite in terms of value for money and fuss free maintenance. They are absolutely no additional work easy to install and easy to take out to clean the water tanks. Plus, they come with a free floater ring if you want to convert yours to a floating heater (wouldn't work with my mouthy geldings) and a shepherd's-hook type of attachment to help securing the cord to the side of the tank. Even with the unusually cold weather we've been having here in NC, 250W heaters are perfectly sufficient to keep 50gal stock tanks clear.

The quality is perfectly fine, and the engineering is clearly geared towards being able to withstand curious equines.. I don't know that they are built to last till the end of the earth, but they are solid and should work at least a couple of years. At about 10% of a cost of typical vet colic call, I'd say they are well worth the money (not to mention now I can sit in my house, in my pyjamas and have my morning coffee without worrying that i have to go break the horses' water again ... and again, and again and again).

I think the reviewers who said they do not work might be either (1) trying to heat too large of an area (a pond? really????) or (2) just got defective units, which happens with all electrical appliances now and then. Either that or we got really lucky but none of our five have had any problems at all and they do exactly what they are intended to do at a good price with minimum fuss required. If one of mine broke I'd buy another one in without a second thought.

Bought this for my 700 gallon pond after the Farm Innovators Heated Pond Saucer Model PS-200, 200-Watt deicer started to trip my GFI after only 2 months of use! (After taking that one from the water, could hear water slooshing around inside the disk.)

Seems like a good design because of the option to have it float or not, the 250 watt option and it's not a disk that will eventually leak in water.

I was leery of buying this because it said it is for a stock tank but the coils are surrounded so I don't see a way that it could damage a pond liner.

This one has kept the water open for the 1-2 months since I've bought it. I just hope I'm able to use it next year!

We are using this de-icer in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank. It works great! We took off the float part to make it submersible, the horses are leaving it alone. The clip keeps the cord somewhat secure to the side. Temps dropped to 18F last night and no ice to be seen in the tank.

Check the website for K&H Manufacture to see what zone you are in and which wattage will work best for you. I was surprised to find that a 250w would work with a 50 gallon, but it does. Less of a drain our electric and wallet!

For us and our horses, this was a good buy!

Wow! I cannot believe the performance of this mighty 250W de-icer. Right after I purchased it, we had 3 weeks of below freezing weather so it got a work-out. The K&H is in a 150 gallon tank (it is only rated for 30 gal in our climate). Occasionally in the morning there is some ice on the edges, but plenty of ice free water for my horses. I am planning to purchase another for a second tank. This is a great product.

I wish this was available in a larger sized container. Our koi pond is not large, a little over 1200 gallons, but it will consume this size container rather quickly. The products (I have both pH UP and pH DOWN) are effective and safe if used correctly. I do not adjust my pH by any more than 0.1 at a time and I will wait at least 3 days in between adjustments. My fish are happy and healthy.

Expanded by Koi Pond and the water had to low of a PH. Used the PondCare product and it fixed the problem. Fish love their expanded digs. Delivery from Amazon was speedy.
