I have three of these 24" units over my 72" long 125 gallon tank.

They are great for my purposes of growing plants, but I will give the pros and cons as I suspect that the negatives may outweigh the positives to many people.

Pros:

Great lighting that makes the tank and the fish look gorgeous!

My tank is freshwater, and I can grow any kind of plant I want with these lights! I also credit Purigen and Sea Chem fertilizers for my success with plants).

As my tank is filled with new growths of easy plants that tolerate less light but flourish in higher illumination like java moss or hornwort almost every week, I routinely produce new plants for my other tanks with standard T8 lighting.

Cons:

Because these lights are bright, they run hot, making the fan on the fixture loud. One of my three lights routinely gets stuck in a noise pattern in which a hum developed near the fan vent which is on the top of the fixture and keeps getting louder and LOUDER. Although I can quiet the light by (gently) thwacking on the fan, I doubt that this is very good for the light in the long run! The noise overwhelms any noise coming from my Eheim and Penn Plax canister filters, so if you are noise sensitive forget these lights unless you are good at fixing this type of thing.

There are TWO light bulbs on the fixture, and a replacement light bulb for these fixtures are quite expensive, so you have to shop around in order to spend a bundle on a light bulb.

Again, the look of my planted aquarium and the production of plants outweighs these (admittedly big) negatives to me, but you must decide for yourself.

I needed a light fixture of this length for a project. The fixture had to be of good quality and very reliable-no funky power failures or over-heating. This unit has performed flawlessly. It looks great and works great. NO problems. Buy with confidence.

This is a replacement hood lamp for my aquarium and it is great. Nice bright blub, easy on off switch, doesn't over heat, perfect size.

My original fish tank was bought as a kit and it was difficult to find the exact replacement lamp sold separately. After purchasing this one, which is meant for a 10 gallon tank, I was a little disappointed that it didn't sit in its 'footing' properly on the hood-it is a bit long. However, it does work and is functional and doesn't look too out of place, so overall I am pleased.

Arrived quickly with no problems. The light itself is exactly what you'd expect--fits nicely. It is plastic, but well-represented in the picture. The bulb shines very bright white fluorescence, so just be aware that it may make some colors look washed out in your aquarium. Overall, though, I am pleased with this purchase.

AZOO Mignon Filter 60

This is a great little filter for my 3 gal. tank with my betta Angelo. It is VERY quiet and the water stays SO clear. The flow can be controlled which is nice because betta do not like heavy flow. I would have given it 5 stars but the instructions are VERY vaugue and there is no number to call to ask questions. There is a little black knob that is part of the set up, it goes in the bottom of the filter to keep it stable. Other than that it is a great item for the money.

This is the perfect little filter for the Tetra Crescent Aquarium Kit, 3-Gallon. The tank kit came with a whisper internal filter and I didn't like how it took up so much space. So I got this and I have to say I am very happy. I would recommend AsianDude666 on youtube for the setup, that's where I got the idea about this filter. 110% Satisfied! =)

Wow, just got it today (Prime in 2 days). Waited to use it in a new tank, Tetra 3 gallon (didnt get it here). The Tetra tank came with a cheaply made in-tank 3i filter which I was already familiar with from my current 1 gallon tank. The AZOO definitely beats the Tetra filter hands down. Its like night and day. The flow is adjustable, great suction power despite it being very small. The 3 gallon tank top has cutouts that fits this filter perfectly. All you need is 3.5 inch clearance. Its whisper quiet.

The best part, though it comes with both a carbon sponge and filter sponge, the Tetra filter cartridge Tetra Whisper Bio-Bag Cartridge small, 2-Packfor the Tetra 3i filter fits perfectly into the AZOO diagonally. I'll try to post a few pictures.

Anyway, I went and got 2 more as back ups. Since its not a know brand like Tetra, it appears to be a Taiwanese brand, don't know how long it will be on Amazon.

Like other reviewers, this IS a great filter for small setups. I have 3, and use them when extracting fry, or various discoveries from either the 65 gal reef or 30 gal freshwater tanks. It should be noted that both tanks are equipped with Aqua Clear 110 filters, to which I add white felt pads cut to the size of the sponge).

To aid in filtration, I have created little mesh bags filled with charcoal. Additionally, approx. 4 pieces of ceramic containing healthy bacteria have been extracted from the main Aqua Clear filter and placed within the Zoo filter compartment. By adding the charcoal & ceramic to the Zoo filter you will greatly improve the over all performance of this great little devise.

Just set this filter up the other day on my 3 gallon Marineland Crescent. The filter hangs outside of the aquarium, so you'll need a few inches of space behind it. The intake is the only part of the filter that is inside the aquarium, so it doesn't take away swimming space. The filter is almost completely silent. The instructions are vague as another reviewer mentioned, but fortunately on youtube there is a video by AsianDude666 which demonstrates how to set the filter up, and he suggests getting Aquaclear foam and Biomax to use, as the sponges that come with the filter are skimpy. You can just cut the Aquaclear foam sponge to fit the filter. Both items were found cheap on valuepetsupplies.com. I set it up exactly like he did it, and it seems to work great. I have the flow set to the lowest setting and my betta is fine with it. For a couple weeks, I am taking turns running the Azoo and my original filter so the Azoo has time to collect beneficial bacteria. Then I will remove the enormous Tetra filter that came with this small aquarium, and my betta will have more space. And to clean the Azoo filter media, just take out the sponge and the biomax and rinse them in water from the tank to preserve your good bacteria.***Update 5/23/13 Make sure to use all the attachments that construct the tube. Don't make the mistake I made and fail to use the bottom extension piece of the tube. Without it, the opening is wide enough for a betta to get sucked into and killed, which is what happened to one of mine. So mad at myself for not noticing this preventable hazard. Each piece is included for a reason.***

***Ok another update 6/9/13...This should go without saying but make sure you clean the filter often, mine has developed gunk on the inside of the tube that I can't get out, the only way I might be able to reach in far enough is with a pipe cleaner. I wasn't cleaning it often enough. Cleaning it weekly would be good, but no less than every 2 weeks I would say.***

API Ammo-Carb

A large container at a great price. Ammo-carb is the best buy for enhanced filtration media. Better than charcoal alone it has a resin that removes ammonia, which poisons fish and gives your tank that sort of acrid odor even with good water changing habits. If you are unable or unwilling to add a larger filter or have a bio orb tank, for instance, adding ammo-carb makes a significant difference in water quality. I've been keeping tropical fish for about 39 years now.

I heard that ammo-carb is handy to put in the litter drawer of your litter robot, and so thought I'd give it a shot. I sprinkled a little bit (maybe a tablespoon or so) into the drawer a week ago. Since then, no odor at all. It works amazingly well at absorbing the odor.

I noticed another reviewer commenting on the vivid color of this plant. I should have taken that into account. It is bright! It looks totally fake next to my real plants BUT it is a nice fake plant. If the color were a little muted(it almost looks like it should glow in the dark) I would give it 5 stars. It is full though doesn't look quite as full as the picture. I think mine has ten varying length strands. Its nice and tall, perfect for my 20 high that was lacking in tall decor.It is not as hard of a plastic as my couple other cheapy plants in there and the leaves look well made. (no extra plastic that looks like it needs trimmed off) I'm glad I purchased it because my guppies already like swimming through and under it but it might eventually get switched out for something more natural looking. Or better yet, hopefully it will fade a little.

I would like to add that it might just look so bright because my tank is dull colored in general. I have sand substrate, rocks, a couple forest green fake plants and some tall grassy looking real plants with a black background. Nothing else bright colored! So it might be perfect in another tank.

These are a good size and made well. One of my plants had a small piece that broke off but its not a big deal for me. If it is for you, make sure you check packaging when received.

This product is just OK. The packaging is loose and ugly so the contents come scuffed and chipped, the quality of the plastic is poor so it breaks very easily when installing. The slits in the plate are too small and aren't ideal for letting particles through so they tend to stay in the gravel more than they should.

Aquamedic Fish Trap..

Works like it should but if you use this in a stream or somewhere with current or in a aquarium with strong water movement it will float away on you. So best thing is to weigh it down with a rock or something on the inside. Also over time the plastic latch that releases the trap door will break like mine did. Now you have to use a piece of dowel or a small nail to use as the latch. They should have foreseen this problem and made it out of stiff rubber instead of the brittle plastic. If it was not for these two problems I would give it 5 stars.

There are 3 varieties of the Duetto filters. They are:

These filters have all the necessities: a prefilter/mechanical, a biological filter, a carbon/chemical filter and an air intake that allows the air to mix with the water that comes out of the spout. It is also an extremely quiet filter as long as you keep the pour spout below the water line (to prevent the sound of the water splashing). The only slight problem that I can find is that a tiny amount of air leaks around the seal between the filter media container and the top section, but this isn't a big deal since the water level will almost always be lower then this seal. It's also an efficient filter that produces less heat then most others.

You can use the filter as a pump by removing the pour spout and plugging in a hose that has an inner diameter of 1/2".

I don't know about fancy aquarium stuff, but I love this filter. You put it in, the tank gets clean and you don't have to clean it as often as the cascade ones! I love it (and the fish do too!)

Really, this device can serve three purposes: it pumps and moves water around (at various power levels), it filters (with 3 stage filtration), and it can mix air with water, so that your aquarium can be properly aerated. In order to take in air, this filter has a sort of a snorkel with a screw-in cap that allows you to regulate the quantity of air being sucked in. The snorkel stays above the water surface, so there is always a reliable supply of air available.

I mean, you get one device that replaces up to three separate contraptions that all would require maintenance, supplies, space, and, of course, electricity.

This filter also requires some maintenance that is easy to perform. Note: never use any harsh chemicals on this device and its filter media. Especially avoid using Windex, because you do not want to kill the biofilter and you do not want any more ammonia in your fish tank!

There are three pieces of filter media in this device: the primary (rough) mechanical filter, the biofilter, and a self-contained basket-like activated carbon filter.

The activated carbon filter piece is a tightly-capped plastic container that needs to be replaced entirely every 4 to 8 weeks. However, there is a way to open the cap on this container. Then you may be able to replace the activated carbon granules with any separately purchased granules or with a mixture of carbon and zeolite. But, if you do not perform this procedure accurately enough, then your might face some cleanup problems or the impeller could get damaged.

The filter is reasonable quiet, unless you run it at the extreme lowest or highest throughput mode. Every setting in between is fairly quiet. It hardly takes up any space inside a tank. Plus, you do not have to modify your tank's cover to accommodate this kind of filter, because it stays completely or mostly submerged with nothing hanging over the edge of your tank.

Note: a brand-new filter may contain some oil inside its pumping assembly, so just rinse it with running water before installing this device for the first time. The manufacturer states that the motor is completely sealed with epoxy, so I guess that you do not have to worry about the motor.

BTW, the fish find this filter to be a great entertainment piece.

I've been using this in a 20 gal aquarium with tetras, platys, swordtails, etc for over a year and it's been great. I dont hesitate to recommend this filter. It works well and I've never had trouble. I keep it completely submerged so the tank is quiet. You can leave it up above the water a little to create more current, and if you want you can open the little port that lets air mix into the water too. The only reason I dinged it one star is because it cost me about $12-15 every time I have to replace the three different cartridges depending on where I shop to get the parts. I wish it were cheaper for those parts, such as maybe they could sell multi-packs/bulk packs, etc. The carbon cartridges come in a two pack but the sponges dont. So just keep that in mind when you are planning for long term maintenance. This is a very solid filter and overall I love it.

I ordered these for my at the time empty fish tank for my beta that I was getting, they were said to arrive Friday came on Thursday (which is even better since I got Surge on Thursday). The strings are adjustable which is great because I have a 10 gallon right now and the pink was to long, but you're able to wrap the string around the glass sucker to make the string shorter and it'll be unwrapped when I get my 29 gallon tank. I don't have an additional pump, at first I thought I did need since they weren't moving, but I found out that I don't need one since my bubble wall, filter, and fish make enough movement in the water for it to move and flow. Surge loves to swim thru the tentacles and shoos away the platies when they get to close. Ive also read that a few people have an issue with them sinking, but I haven't encounter that yet, but honestly it's worth it even if they do. I'll def. be ordering more whne I get a bigger tank, hopefully I can get different colors and varying sizes.

Penn Plax Curved Corner Glass Aquarium Kit, 10-Gallon

I like the wrap around feature of the glass which will create a better visual effect. I thought the filter was a little small and have purchased a different filter that hangs on the side. The included filter should be ok for most people though. Our first shipped tank had a scratch in the glass but Penn Plax replaced the entire kit. So I would not be hesitant to recommend their products to anyone.

I bought this tank for the seamless front as it's very modern in appearance. I love the glass tank itself and the internal filter seems quiet and capable but there are a few things I'd like to point out. The led light included is far too weak for anything other than simulated moonlight so you'll need to upgrade to a clip-on that will fit a rimless tank. I had an extra Fluval mini power 13W compact which works much better. The final thing I should mention is the lid is only a thin piece of plastic attached to hinges.

Pros: Aesthetic appearance, powerful internal filter with optional aeration, and a protective mat.

Cons: Weak lighting and flimsy hood. Basically you're paying for a pretty tank and internal filter, unless you're raising nocturnal species.

EHEIM Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater 75W

Once you get your temp set, this thing is awesome. I set the ring to 78 degrees but my thermometer was only reading 76 so I moved the ring to 79. No change. Moved it to 80 and nothing. Moved it to 81 and it started going past 81. I finally dialed it in and it has been rock steady ever since. Just make sure you check it closely for a few days with an accurate thermometer and don't rely on the temp ring.

The Glass is nice and thick and I have no problems submerging it.

I have had quite a lot of heaters for my various fishtanks but this is DEFINITELY worth the price. It has a great range of temperatures that you can choose from to heat water up to. It's completely submersible and the cable is protected all the way up until the wall socket, for those very long or deep tanks. A light tells you when it's on and shuts off when the water doesn't need to be heated. The heater itself is a long cylinder and has a holder with suction cups that are all removable so you can clean each piece. After almost one year, though, the suction cups are giving out and need to be replaced.

For a heater that is supposed to be top of line, I didn't expect to be fighting it for days like an old heater from the 70's. whether the indicator dial is calibrated or not, the heater should shut off at a lower temp when you dial it down two degrees. I cannot get my tank below 81and the dial is now down to 75. I calibrated it to two thermometers, one laser and one aquarium standard type. Heater still coming on at 80 and taking it up to 82. This is all very unfortunate because the workmanship is good, although not as good as I expected from a German manufacturer.

Zoo Med Floating Betta Exercise Mirror

I would NOT recommend this for your betta fish. I put my betta fish in with the mirror and he tore up his back fins against the egg of the mirror. It has sharp edges! I don't know why no one has mentioned this but I had to return all three which I bought to the pet store because I tried it out with my poor fish and now he's having to grow back his fins. Please avoid this product until they address this serious issue. We buy the fish for their fins not so see them destroyed!

This is not excercise. This is a terribly stressed-out fishy who thinks he's being threatened and needs to defend himself.

Wow, I never thought of this before! They should make something with this same principle for our own kids. Maybe I'll get a little talking robot that verbally abuses my child and induces his natural fighting habits. That'll give him some great exercise.

This "toy" is the equivalent of having someone break into your house, from your betta's point of view. Your betta will go nuts. You'll think it's funny. Maybe you'll leave it in his bowl for much too long.

If you're a loving betta owner, ready and willing to spend the extra money for the health and happiness of your fun loving fishy friend, don't spend it on something pointless and harmful. Instead, buy your betta buddy a bigger tank or a heater. Live plants will naturally clean the water and provide hiding places. Zoo med sells those little leaf hammocks for your betta to rest on (even I gave in, and my betta loves it!). You are a good intentioned fairy-fishmother for being so thoughtful, but do your research before you bestow harm upon your betta instead!
