This powder worked a miracle! My shrimp tanks were full of planeria from moss I had gathered from a local stream in the mountain. I couldn't get rid of them. They look like flat worms that shrink and enlongate themselves on the bottom or sides of aquariums. they have an triangle shaped head and are found under logs, dirt and sometimes attach themselves to the shrimp. If they are touched, they shrink into a small ball. I used just a small pinch, (.01ml) per 10 gal tank. the next day all planeria were dead in 2 of the 3 tanks. the 3 tank took a second dose then all was good! NO MORE PLANERIA!! My shrimp are all doing fine and having babies. even the babies did well with the medicine.

Tetra Whisper Power Filter 60, 60-Gallon

I have a 65 gallon tank which replaced a 20 I had owned for 3 years. I had the appropriate Whisper filter on that one so I got the larger version for this one. There is no such thing as a silent filter (unless it is in another room) but the whisper does a good job of keep noise to a minimu. If you have your water level right, you do not hear the waterfall effect that others have addressed.

Also, I replaced the additional media in the filter with a better mesh to control phosphates and (hopefully) cut down on algae, and there was plenty of room for this material along with the bags and charcoal.

I had looked at the more expensive cylinder filters but after assessing the cleaning problems, the leaking problems and the overall work involved, I chose to stick with the Whisper and spend my $$ on new fish and decorations!

Works great. Handy slide in filter cartridges for easy and quick changes. Adjustable flow rate. Extra tubing for water intake inside tank. Super quiet! A quality product.

I have owned a whisper filter in the past and find them a superior product. So I was not hesitant to buy this one. The whisper does work better than most standard filter systems that come with aquariums these days. So thats why after 1 month I ditched the Aqueon filter system that came with the tank I purchased and switched to the Whisper filter. The only thing I would say that is negative is the sound... it isn't a whisper at all.. more like a water fall in your house. So if you find the sound of running water irritating this isn't the system for you. I find it soothing so it isn't a problem.

I've been using Whisper PFs for all my aquariums for over 20yrs and have never been disappointed by them. As with any filtration, you should always get a filter that's rated higher than what you need -for example, if you have a 60 gallon aquarium, the filter's MINIMUM GPH (gallons per hour) rating should be no less than 50 GPH -because all filters lose filtering capacity over time as media gets dirty and/or loses effectiveness. Aquariums housing particularly messy and/or big fish need filters that can turn the water volume over at least 3x per hour -for example, a 60 gallon Goldfish aquarium needs a filter capable of no less than 180 GPH. It's for this reason that people have issues with filters not keep their aquariums clean.

Whisper PFs are exceptional! Very well constructed and most are very quiet. The Whisper 60 is the biggest model and is also the noisiest of the bunch. They're not insufferable, though, but you can hear them working compared to their smaller cousins. Usually the noise is caused by impeller assemblies not being seated properly and/or air being trapped in the impeller compartment. Should ALWAYS add the impeller assembly into the motor housing after adding water to that compartment so air doesn't get trapped inside. The cover tends to rattled from the vibration generated by the motor, but putting a rock or something like that on top of it eliminates that issue.

The Whisper 60 has a 2 compartment system which makes these filters extremely versatile! Using the filter pouches, you can add any media you want. I always keep one side stuffed with blue bonded media and sponge type media for beneficial bacterial to take on biological filtration which keeps the water crystal clear even with no chemical/mechanical media in use. The other compartment is used for chemical and mechanical filtration. Keep in mind that carbon by itself isn't 100% effective in keeping aquariums clean, so the carbon packets that come with the filter media for these filters isn't particularly useful -especially since there is so little of it. I used PhosPure & Sea Gel and have also used Diamond Blend in the past for media.

To sum up, these are excellent filters and pretty quiet when setup & maintained properly. I've had 5 of these 60's so far and never had an issue with them. I also have the Junior and 30 model in operation currently. My 300+ gallon planted Goldfish aquarium has two of these 60s keeping it crystal clean.

Petco Suction Cups for Aquarium Heaters

The ones I received were not at all as in the photo or as in the item description. They were all in one piece. The ring to fit around the heater did NOT have a gap, but rather was all one continuous ring with no way to enlarge or adjust the size and thus way too small to fit around my aquarium heater. They were totally useless to me. And I have a Eheim 100W heater, no larger than the average heater. I don't like to give negative reviews, but beware ordering these as you may get something totally different than what you expect that will not work for you. For my purposes they are absolute junk. Maybe I'll find some other use for them sometime, but they won't be holding my aquarium heater.

the suction cups are permanently attached to the clips which go around the heater entirely (different from image). they are clear which has a nicer look. the suction cups work very well.

I use Aqua Plus every time I do water changes in my aquarium. I have used this product for many, many years with 100% success. It not only takes out chlorine and chloramine in tap water, it neutralizes toxic heavy metals like lead and copper, and protects fish scales and fins. Other water conditions may claim to be as good, but it's been so successful for me over the years, I won't use anything else. Well I read every review and saw there were complaints about the light but I was too impressed by the sparkly LED lights to noy hit my 2 day one click shipping.....low and behold the white light stopped working yesterday. Ive had it 3 weeks, I believe if I had not filled all the way to the top this may not have happened. The lights are splashed with the water from the air bubbler. I am going to contact the company and see how hard the replacement will be. I still like the little guy and keep my smaller fry in there safe from becoming food and I think it is a great deal for the price. Someone said it was flimsy when carrying it full of water to clean....uh....you never move a tank with water in it unless you want a mess, you siphon out the water first and then clean and put back together or just do the 20% change each week. It is plenty sturdy and a great little tank....when the lights are on.

Aquamedic Fish Trap..

Works like it should but if you use this in a stream or somewhere with current or in a aquarium with strong water movement it will float away on you. So best thing is to weigh it down with a rock or something on the inside. Also over time the plastic latch that releases the trap door will break like mine did. Now you have to use a piece of dowel or a small nail to use as the latch. They should have foreseen this problem and made it out of stiff rubber instead of the brittle plastic. If it was not for these two problems I would give it 5 stars.

It's not all that silent but it sure lasts a long time. An 8 hour blackout, no problem..all specimens survived in the salt water tank! Sweet....

I bought this since I live in Florida and the storms that come through here can leave people with no power. At first I had my doubts about this. So this is what I think of it.

Pros: small, uses D batteries, last a long time, works when power is out and delivers what it is supposed to do.

Cons: Loud. this thing is loud but I have an aquarium cabinet and I put it under there on the shelf and I never heard it when the power went off. So if you have it out in the open, it will be loud. Suggest placing a cloth or something underneath it so it will cut down on the noise.

Overall, I love it and will not be without one. I only gave it 4 stars because it is so loud. The rest is definitely a 5 star.

This product does exactly what it says it does. It is a good system for an emergency aquarium pump that cuts on automatically when the power cuts off. Very convenient when it happens while you are at work or away from the house. Some have said this model makes a lot of noise, but I do not think the fish will complain that they are getting airflow in an emergency. The noise is not that loud, IMO, and it can be muffled if placed inside a cabinet, such as those that most aquarium stands have. It takes two D batteries, not included. The tubing that comes with the product is only about 12 inches in length, so for my system, that was inadequate. But it accepts standard tubing that you can purchase at your local pet store. For a few bucks you can get about 6' of tubing.

In the 18 months I've had my current aquarium I've had two blackouts and this product has saved my fish each time. I've had no loss of life while it's been the sole source of aeration. I can't confirm the manufacturer claimed 48 hour run time because I've never had to run it that long. But it definitely runs at least 8 hours in my experience with no signs of slowing down, and with fresh batteries I don't doubt it would run an additional 40.

It will automatically detect a power outage and turn itself on, so you don't need to be there to activate it (just make sure the power switch is always set to "on"). You plug its power cord into an outlet and that is how it detects a loss of power. But the power cord neither powers the unit, nor can it charge the batteries. This is strictly a battery-operated back-up system and is not intended to be an everyday air pump. The supplied air line is absurdly short for most applications, so be sure to pick up your own. Also be sure to purchase and insert a back flow preventer (not included) into the air line to prevent water from flowing back into the pump, which will destroy it. I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 because it is absurdly loud, which is unacceptable in an era where most manufacturers have found a way to make these things whisper quiet. How loud is it? Even if you put this thing in a cabinet, if your aquarium is in your bedroom you would never be able to sleep. Despite that one complaint, every aquarium owner should have one of these. I consider it as essential as having a heater and filter.

EDIT: I was without power for a week after Hurricane Sandy. I can now confrim that it lasted 6 straight days on the same set of batteries I mentioned earlier in this review that ran 8 hours a year ago. A fresh set should give you at least 7 days. Outstanding.

I received 15 live cherry shrimp after them being in the mail for four days. Although they were all alive and healthy I must say they were pretty small | | about that big more or less and without color, but the color mostly came back. So far it has been 3 weeks and I have had zero deaths and there were no DOAs I would recommend this product to someone looking for some shrimp to clean up your tank and the price is great at about $2 per shrimp it's $4 less then I would be paying at my LPS

I just bought a bunch of these and they are great! They are easy to take care of and fun to look at. Right now, they're about 1cm long but they're supposed to max out at 4cm and live 1-2 years, so I'm looking forward to seeing them grow.

They are easy to maintain, just tablets and natural algae and detritus in your tanks. Just make sure you have plenty of plants and hiding places for them. You can pair them with non-aggressive fish too.

If you have male and female, they will breed when mature. Most freshwater shrimp are pale or translucent colors so I'm glad to have these liven up the tank. Anyway, so far so good!

Como Realistic Aquarium Tank Purple Silicone Mini Sea Anemone Ornament

I was happy to receive this ornament. It is very soft and the soft purple color looks good in my aquarium. You cannot really see on the picture that the tips are white and this is a very nice touch, especially when the lights enhance it. I ordered another sea anemone in blue awhile back and it got pretty gross over a 4-month period. The color faded and it smelled bad and had slime in it. I took it out and will have to see how it cleans up. Note that this is a "mini". I would recommend it but will have to see if it gets gross after a few months. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to last. Right now, I am pleased with it and I like it alot.

Update:

My above-described ornament is beginning to fade out and no longer has the pretty purple color. Although it is still purple, it has become more washed out looking, almost like the purple is washing off and the color white is coming through. I clean it often so it does not have slime and my fish love swimming around it. Except for the color fading, it is still upright and flowing. I am wondering if the color will fade off eventually. If so, it would be very pretty in white so I am keeping it to see how the saga plays out, with the health of my fish being a priority.

thought it would be more....flowy? if that makes any sense...I mean it's alright I guess, not exactly what I expected, but my betta seems to love it and my wife and sister think its cute, It just feels too springy under the current of the filter.

WTF??!?! after a whole some really gross slimy nasty stuff starts coming off this thing. I dont know if it had any thing to do with the death of my pleco which would suck on this thing from time to time, but dude that stuff was nasty. Washed it off, put it back in the aquarium, so far its not come back but...damn...that was nasty

Aquarius Aq15000g Glofish Globe Bowl 1-1/2-Gallon Aquarium Kit

This is a great product for Bettas and small fish-Guppies etc..i deducted 1 star because the LED Lights do not always function properly. I have 3 Bowls and i am replacing the Lights...other wise they are very good for Glow Fish and Glow Plants, as well as Bettas...Itbwould be wise to purchase a spare set of LED Lights as they are inexpensive..

Aquatop CF300 3-Stage Canister Filter, 264 gph

I bought this filter because I originally had my eyes on the Cascade 1000. This filter has about the same GPH (265 vs. 264) for half the price. When I first removed it from the package I was greeted with a product that appeared to be used. There were some light scrapes, and moisture. Enough moisture that I actually found mold inside the canister. All the tubing, intake, outtake, etc. appeared to still be sealed though. Not sure if this is the distributor's (TruAqua), or the manufacturer's fault.

After cleaning it up it is working great though. I've had it running for about 5 hours now on a 55 gallon, with a sand substrate, and my water has cleared up a lot. It came with plenty of filter media to fill up the three trays as well. Plastic Bio-balls, Activated Carbon, Filter Cotton, and what I'm assuming is Ceramic for more beneficial bacteria to grow on. The pump for priming it was also nice, made it super easy to set up.

I highly recommend this if you don't mind receiving something that appears to have been used. Maybe I was just unlucky, but it is still a great bargain despite this.

It seems that the filter media isn't included with this system anymore. They updated pictures to show notes on the media saying that it's not included instead of updating the description.

For media I've been using Marineland Rite-Size filter pads that one has to cut to the proper size. As well as activated carbon, and ceramic, but I just get whatever is on sale when I need more.

At the current price of $80 with no media included I can no longer call this thing a bargain. I personally purchased this for $50 with media included. When I wrote half the price of the Cascade 1000, I literally meant half the price.

Starting a new 55 gallon aquarium can be quite expensive. I wanted to do things right and not get 'soaked' in the process (sorry, bad pun!) After doing a great deal of research on filter types, I knew I wanted a canister. I had a bit of sticker shock while shopping around. Then I found this product!

My order was processed quickly, even delivered sooner than I anticipated. I had the unit put together and running in no more than 15 minutes. Getting it assembled was effortless. I was completely shocked at how silently it operates!

As I write this review, I am looking at my new little fishy family, swimming happily in their new home.

I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for great value, prompt delivery and a very effective filter.

The manufacturer's name who makes these canisters escapes me, but they label themselves as Sun Sun or Aquatop. Think of it as the generic version of EHEIM cause oddly enough all their media will work just fine with this. With that said, this has been a very affordable and helpful little canister. I bought mine on eBay (box said Sun Sun) and this one here (box says Aquatop) on Amazon. Honestly I wish Amazon had sold this before, cause it's cheaper here (on Amazon).

Works fine after 1 year and bought my 2nd one to replace my EHEIM.

4 stars because I forget which model from EHEIM will the media pads fit from. And because as explained the handles for the trays like to pop off (I find inching it from one side to the other works best).

Only other issue you may run into is if you hear a rattle or hum sound, it's the little propeller (I forget the name of it) that spins did "ware out" on one of these, but I replaced it for about $5 ... No big deal.

I setup the canister last night without too many issues. Initially it ran whisper quite but has since developed a vibration noise that I will have to figure out tonight. The media trays are a good size but they are made quite cheaply. The media trays are very securely seated in the canister and almost impossible to remove without damaging the popup handle on them. In fact both lower trays already had the handle pop off. I have to figure out a way to remove the trays without relying on the handle. I may need to grease the outside of the tray to see if that helps.

The media included is ample but I wish it came with a better mechanical sponge filter or foam batting for the lowest tray. Also it would be nice if the input bar and spray bar came with some external bracing as I am having a hard time getting it to rest nicely on the back of the tank.

But so far I am happy with the performance per price ratio

264 GPH?????? I'm replacing a Penn Plax Cascade 1000 on my 46g bowfront with this. Not for any reason, because the Cascade 1000 still works well after 6-7 years (gaskets are a little worn and tubes are filled with gook). To compare, the Cascade 1000 spray bar is longer and has more pressure coming out of it (Penn Plax is rated at 265GPH). The Cascade 1000 is larger, has a handle, and comes with all the filter media. This external filter is much smaller, has about 80% the spray output, and comes with white floss on the 3 provided trays, and a bio sponge on the bottom tray.

Next, the priming pump. Doesn't work unless you fill the filter up with water. After you fill the filter up with water, it works fine. The Penn Plax primes an empty canister.

Noise? Quiet as can be. I can't hear it at all. Penn Plax is just as quiet.

Hoses? comes with nice green (Eheim type) hoses, and not the cheap hoses that comes with the Fluval 306.

Is it worth sixty dollars? YES

Will you be happier with a Penn Plax 1000 for a little more? Yes, also considering the Penn Plax comes with the filter media.

Overall, it's cute, does a fair job, and is not too heavy to carry to the kitchen sink.

Do I feel safe with this unit? Yes. the connections are tight, and everything fits perfectly together.

Overall well made, but if you're looking for a lot more power, I'd choose the Penn Plax 1000.

Edit: to add, I think a lot of people are complaining about water in the filter when they received the filter. I found drops of clean water in the filter, and chalked it up as the company was testing to make sure the filter is in working order. Hopefully, someone from the company will respond.

edit: to add again-after changing the filter I noticed the canister can be assembled wrong. I know that sounds weird, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it until I turned the trays 90 degrees. if your canister makes noise, consider this because there is nothing to stop you from putting together the canister wrong.

edit: March 18, 2012the canister filter output isn't working. in other words, the canister is taking water in and not extracting the water. I do have the inline UV filter on the outtake, and this may be the problem. Today, I purchased the Cascade that I've been comparing it to, and am taking this as a loss.

WITH CAUTION THOUGH. Be sure to use the amount of bio-spira for the number of gallons you need. It does work but TRUST ME when i tell you that using a bottle thats good for 50 gallons in say a 75 gallon tank will not get you the true cycle you want. Although this works it is not instant. A week or 2 is still required. If you are adding true live rock (rock purchased locally with minimal time out of the water less than an hour or so) you might still see spikes after 2 weeks and thats not good. My suggestion with this stuff is to put dry base rock and some very small "true live rock" to seed the coraline. I do believe in this product and think that if you are setting up a fish only tank this is one of the best ways to get it started quickly and safely.

I have a very high phosphate reading in my 46 gallon aquarium. Mostly due to my overfeeding and I probably am overstocked but my fish are healthy. Great one day shipping and delivery. The product appeared to reduce algae growth and took Phosphate from 1.5ppm to 0 in one day. Easy to hide heater element for 10 gallon tanks. It will work in a 20 gallon tank as long as the air temp doesn't drop below 66 68F around the tank at night. The flat plastic radiator can be buried under gravel or sculpture in the tank. It could possibly be used in a five gallon tank located in a cool room but it's always a good idea to keep an eye on water temperature for awhile after installing any new heater element.

it works , its not great , its not bad. im using it to keep a cooling res. from freezing over in a shop, i would say you might want to get a thermistatic control so when the outside temp is warm enough this doesnt have to run. so far so good.
