Exo Terra Ceramic Heater, 110-Volt

Exo Terra Ceramic Heater, 60-Watt/110-VoltHello, I had one of these heaters that lasted approx 6 months. The wires that attach to the end and the ceramic crumbled, making it impossible to fix. I did buy another one but again the same thing happened.

They stopped heating, and I wanted to check that the heater was screwed into the socket, and when I went to turn it, the whole thing twisted, except for the metal part that is screwed into the socket, making the ceramic crumble, and the heating wires separate from the end.

I would stay away from these types of heaters.

I bought this heater in September 2008 and used it for a month. It worked when I turned it on again for a few days in May, 2009. But then, when I went to use it again this September, it was not working. So don't buy it. I just had to order a different brand this morning.

Exo Terra, if your going to put a product out be truthful on how long it will last. I bought 2 and both went out in 3-4 months. A lot of money spent on a poorly made product.

Exo Terra PT2048 Ceramic Heater 250W 110V The does exactly what it says it does, and I used it with the "required" Exo Terra wire fixture. It lasted 4 months and failed. I discovered that it was not putting out heat when my Bearded Dragon became unusually inactive. Turns out that the base of the lamp where the hot side of the circuit touches the tab in the socket was burnt and separated from the base of the lamp and the lamp itself had burnt out. The tab in the socket was black as if there had been excessive heat or arching. Exo Terra requires that the heater must be used with only it's wire enclosed socket, so that is what I bought. It is also to last 5 years... mine lasted 4 months and 10 days. I have ordered another, we'll see how it goes. My terrarium is a large one and requires a 250 watt ceramic heater to maintain the temperature. While it worked, it did the job. I plan to contact the company and see what they have to say. One other note, even though it is a 250W heater, I still needed a basking lamp and infrared lamp to maintain the hot side temperature in my terrarium. That was not a problem, but worth nothing that the 250W is not enough alone.

No matter where you put a bird cage unless you have a special avian room the cage temperature may be uncomfortable for the bird from time-to-time. This is especially so in winter where a room may have cold spots. The ceramic heater can be positioned outside the cage in such a way that the bird can move about on a perch and find a comfortable zone of warmth. Using light bulbs have obvious faults most of the heat rises and who can sleep with a light in their face? The infrared radiant heat of the ceramic heater is easily directed.

Coralife Energy Savers ACL76023 flouorescent at Valve For R/O

Coralife Energy Savers ACL76023 flouorescent at Valve For R/OThe product worked well until the float filled with water through the seams. To inexpensive to send back, so I was able to separate the tank assembly and reglue properly. Works fine after my repair. Would not recommend. I used expoxy type glue which has held up for several weeks so far. Quality control needed by maker. Unit to an several hours to fill up with water. Very small leak.

Penn Plax Tortoise Palace with Wire Top, Black Frame and Glass Terrarium

Penn Plax Tortoise Palace with Wire Top, Black Frame and Glass TerrariumIt's a beautiful enclosure. Lots of pieces, but easy to put together. I did have a slight issue with the 4 screws that hold on the front panel but in the end it wasn't a big deal. I used black silicone to seal all of the inside edges, exposed screw holes, & frame around viewing window it turned out looking great. I found the 'Lack' coffee table at Ikea for $39 to use as a stand ...looks like it was made to go with the enclosure. My Russian Tortoise uses every part of his tortoise palace so I'd have to say that he loves it too!

I adopted a tortoise recently and did a little research on their housing requirements. This seemed perfect for a Russian. I got a great deal through Amazon and absolutely LOVE it. Set up was fine. Same as IKEA furniture and my fish tank stand. one of the arms that holds it up is a little iffy but it does the job. Overall I would recommend this to anyone with a small tortoise. It looks great in my house also!

Received this item ahead of schedule, super easy assembly, simple instructions. Plenty big enough for my red footed tortoise! Love the design, far more suitable for tortoises than glass tanks. Very stable and secure. I would highly reccommend this item! Thank you :)

Some parts are cheap like the lid extenders. The brackets for the locks and the door hinges cannot hold in medium density particle wood with the screws that come with it. They require drill through bolts with large washers.

I thought the base came with it. It doesn't the only place where it talks about it is on the box after it arrived. (Which I did not read until I had assembled half the unit. NOT cool...

Underwater Galleries AUG4031 Arch Ruin

Underwater Galleries AUG4031 Arch RuinReally crummy packaging. For as much money as Blue Ribbon gets for their stuff, you think the packaging would be better. Took it out of the outside box (with other items) it slid out of the cheap cardboard box, hit the tile floor and broke in 4 pieces. Right from the get go. Crazy glued it together and had it in my 75 gal. I think this is made of plaster, not resin. pH of my tank is way high. Now its history.

great product. a little over priced. not sure why items like this are so overpriced. but it is good quality.

Tetra Pond Bottom Drain

Tetra Pond Bottom DrainI decided to enlarge my Koi pond from 1600 gallons to 6000 gallons and after having a pond for several years, I decided to install two bottom drains under the pond to assist with keeping the water clear and free of fish waste. Using a skimmer that removes the top layer of water and anything floating is great, (I still have a skimmer attached) but having the bottom drain means that all the leaves and "mess" that settles on the bottom of the pond is now gone and I do not have to worry about renting or buying a vacuum to clean out the pond every year.

And for those of you out there that are concerned about putting a hole in the bottom of your pond, the design of these drains is well thought out and the potential for leaks is extremely low. I have 81 koi in my pond and I would never do anything that would jeapordize their survival. I have a cleaner pond and could not be happier.

I am using this for a drain in my small duck pond and it is working GREAT.

Hagen A1580 8-Watt Aqua-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 12-Inch

Hagen A1580 8-Watt Aqua-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 12-InchI ordered this to replace a worn out bulb for my son's six gallon Marineland Eclipse tank. It fit perfectly, and the light quality is noticeably better than the tube that came with the tank. At this price, I shouldn't have waited until the old one burnt out before making the switch.

I am glad I don't have to change entire fish tank but replaced light bulb. New light bulb working just fine. I am satisfied for amazon quick services as well.

Nano Reef Coral Food - 0.35 oz. - 10 g

Nano Reef Coral Food - 0.35 oz. - 10 gThis stuff is ground into a finer powder than Coral Frenzy. This is neither a plus nor a minus -it's up to you to feed your coral species an appropriate food particle size.

When I feed my tank with this, my palythoa close up on it and brittlestars and things start waving their legs around to capture it -so I can only assume they like it. I've had this food for several months, unrefrigerated, and it doesn't stink so it seems to be shelf-stable. Don't get me wrong, you can definitely smell it even when brand new... it just doesn't reek.

I don't know how scientifically nutritous it is, but my tank is doing well after several months of using it, so that's good enough for me.

All Glass Aquarium AAG25912 Fluorescent Strip Light, 12-Inch

All Glass Aquarium AAG25912 Fluorescent Strip Light, 12-InchI don't know why it's so hard to find a 12" aquarium light since a 2-1/2 gallon aquarium is a standard size, but I really had to do some searching for this. Anyway, it works well on my aquarium. Good even lighting throughout, and neither too dim nor too bright.

The product was just as described and the supplier was quick to mail the item. It came very well packed and protected to prevent damage while in transit.

Hydor MINI HEATER Aquarium Heater 15W for Tanks 5-10 gal

Hydor MINI HEATER Aquarium Heater 15W for Tanks 5-10 galThis was completely ideal for me. It raised the temperature of the tank (10 gal w/guppies and corys) about five degrees from air temp, so I would often just run it overnight and unplug it during the day, depending upon my needs. I would definitely buy this product again! My only regret is that it can be a rather bulky thing, and doesn't sit entirely flush against the aquarium wall, so it is a little tricky to place appropriately. You get what you pay for, and it does the job. Note that this is the maximum size of tank recommended for this product! If you have any complicated needs, such as a larger tank, higher temperature, auto shut-off, range control, sensitive fish, ect. then this is not the product for you!

After purchasing this heater I found out it has NO THERMOSTAT (local fish store misinformed me). If your room temperature varies, so will your aquarium temperature! Not good for most fish. The instructions say to unplug heater whenever room temp is 75 farenheit or above (how convenient). The packaging says: "No damage if left running dry", yet the instructions clearly state "Check that the heater never works dry..." Also, the packaging shows an illustration of a hand moving a hot heater into and out of the tank with the words "Super Safe", but be aware that the instructions warn to wait 5 minutes for heater to cool before handling, and always unplug before placing hand in water.

I gave this heater only two stars because I found the packaging and instructions contradictory, and because the lack of thermostat limits usefulness and could potentially cook your livestock.

I have a large glass cookie jar with no filters and tons of plants. I needed a tiny little heater to make sure the temp. stayed around 78. This did the trick. I hid it under the gravel and you cant see it at all. Plus it is not glass so I don't have to worry about it breaking.

I used this product to raise the water temperature in a 5 gallon tank. It worked for about 2 or 3 weeks raising my water temperature by about 5 degrees while it worked and then died. I would not recommend. I think this is something you have to spend a little more than 12$ on unfortunately.

Using this works best on the 6 gallon fruval edge. 77 degrees lights off and 80.2 with the lights on! No problems under the gravel so far! I had a tetra 10/30 that ran a little warm with the lights on @ 82 degrees so I tried this one. I paid $24 in a store.

Perfecto Manufacturing APF67203 Majesty Stand for Aquarium, 20 by 10-Inch, Black

Perfecto Manufacturing APF67203 Majesty Stand for Aquarium, 20 by 10-Inch, BlackI bought this for my 10 gallon tank, and it fits perfect. This is a very durable unit, and looks great! I am very pleased! The storage on the inside is also helpful.

This fits my 10 gallon aquarium perfectly! It has a front door (which you can't tell from pic) to store food, etc. in. I was surprised though that it has a good size opening on the back of the unit. Mine sits in front of a balcony door so I covered it from the inside with a couple sheets of black poster paper. An easy fix if you need it. Like I said...I love it, it makes the aquarium area look so neat and shows off the fish instead of the dust!

PetSafe Deluxe Pet Panel Panels for Sliding Glass Doors, 76-3/4 to 81 Tall

PetSafe Deluxe Pet Panel Panels for Sliding Glass Doors 76-3/4 to 81 Tall, Large, WhiteThis dog door is a good solution to the issue of letting your dogs in and out through a glass door. The dog entrance/exit panel works fine and the door fits conveniently against the side of the house. However, it is only single-pane glass, and the sealing hardware that ships with it is not of good quality, so expect to make a trip or two to the hardware store if you live in a very cold climate and don't want your house leaking heat like a sieve in the winter. The single-pane glass also gets very cold and collects condensation. The installation instructions are acceptable but not great, and I also had to buy better screws than provided to get the door installed. If you want this panel to be secure (i.e. you want to be able to lock the door) you will need to drill *at least* four screw holes into the frame of your sliding glass door, to attach the pet panel. Most people will probably want to do six: two to secure the top, two on bottom, and two on the door itself to attach the locking mechanism.

I have an older home (built in '73) with a large sliding door that goes out to a Florida Room. I purchased the medium for the cats, my door measured about 78" high, and it works great. Installation was pretty simple. I was a little worried this might be set up for newer sliders, although I'm not sure if the set up for sliders has changed in the last 30 years. But you never know.

The top of the panel is spring loaded which is nice. You just tilt the panel at an angle, and place it into the upper track, lift up up gently and place move the bottom into the lower portion of the track. Using your hands and feet, just kinda bump it up against the wall portion of where the slider opens to ensure a snug fit against the wall, and presto.

I used the provided drill bit to drill the holes to secure the spring loaded portion as the directions state. This would prevent any one from lifting it out of the track and entering the home if your sliders lead directly outside rather than a porch, lanai, etc...

Placed the door sweep on the back of the slider that butts up against the panel, and the weather stripping to the front of the slider that meets the panel and good to go. Installation took maybe 45 mins. The longest part was putting on the door sweep and weather stripping. Making sure to put it on straight.

Some installation tips:

The door may tend to "wobble" slightly forward and back in the upper track. I used the cardboard spacers of which you should find two on either side of the upper spring loaded portion of the panel for packing. I just folded it over, placed it between the upper part of the panel and the lip of the track and it worked fine. Sorta like a shim. Cant see it from the front or back, and no need to drill any extra holes.

When applying the door sweep to the back of the slider that butts up against the panel, give yourself plenty of rubber to lay up-against the other door to provide a good seal. I took a wooden ruler and measured from the outside of the slider frame where the sweep will stick, and found that about 1/4" to 5/16" works pretty well. My sliders are single pane, not sure if newer ones are double pane. I measured off tick marks about every 1.5 feet down the frame. That way it was easy to make sure the sweep went on nice and straight and provides a good seal.

The foam weather stripping that goes down the front of the same slider that will meet up against the panel was fairly easy, I just ran it straight down using the indoor edge as a guide as my slider and pet panel met up flush on the front. Adjust as needed for your installation.

Works great and I'm no longer attempting to air condition an uninsulated portion of the house!

You may have to tape the flap up for a little bit for your pets to get used to going in and out (assuming again it's going out to a lanai, porch, etc...). I put my cats on the other side, taped it up, and coaxed them through with some treats. They are currently going back and forth with it up, at the end of the week I'll let the door down and see how they do.

You can also view the installation directions (PDF) on the PetSafe website for more info.

I INVESTED in this panel, it is expensive. I have had it for over 6 months, now. I have 3 cats that use it several times every day. I definately recommend it, dispite the cost, it has been worth every penny. My husband tapped in a couple pieces of thin wood(shims) to create a tight fit, and we put a piece of stick on velcro at the top edge where there was a small gap between the panel and the sliding glass door, and no bugs get in, the seal is tight. We use the patio door a zillion times a day, so the pet door panel has to be sturdy and it is.

I had a few issues with this door that I'll be taking up with the manufacturer.

1. The materials specifically the flap that is supposed to block any drafts from the sliding glass door being open, doesn't stick very well. Ours fell down shortly after installation despite following the directions. The adhesive strip actually stuck to the door, but fell off of the rubber strip. The result is that there is a giant draft not so good, especially in cold weather.

2. The sizes are a bit misleading. I bought the small door because it said it was good up to 12lbs. My heaviest dog is 10lbs and I have a smaller dog who is maybe 8lbs. Well, our larger dog has to really struggle going through and usually hits her back when coming back in, and the 8lb dog just barely fits through as well. Neither looks very comfortable coming in and out.

3. You really end up doing a lot of drilling to make the door secure, and depending on how your current door is set up with it's locks, molding, etc., you will probably have to do a fair bit of jerryrigging to get things to work.

In the end, you get what you pay for, and I'm guessing this is why there are doors out there for $300 and up. I would recommend considering moving a size up if your dog is anywhere close to the maximum weight limit.

Want PetSafe Deluxe Pet Panel Panels for Sliding Glass Doors, 76-3/4 to 81 Tall Discount?

PetSafe Deluxe Pet Panel Panels for Sliding Glass Doors 76-3/4 to 81" Tall, Medium, White I am sure this door is great and works great, however, if you have a retrofit slider, this door will not work. The retrofit doors have much deeper tracks on the upper part of the door which makes it impossible to get the door into place. Also, the retrofit door has a much wider track which will make the door teeter in place and it will not work with any locking mechanism. Petsafe needs to put "NOT FOR RETROFIT DOORS" in their details so that people aren't stuck with the inconvenience of having to return their product. I was really hoping this would be our solution, as the "retrofit" pet doors are close to $400, which is just criminal. Don't buy this door if you have a dual pane retrofit slider.
