Panacea Products APN70148 100 Count Pan Marbles for Aquarium, Red

Panacea Products APN70148 100 Count Pan Marbles for Aquarium, RedI don't usually write reviews, but I thought this item deserved more than just the one star that it had. I am giving this item 5 stars not because it was particularly exciting or fun object, but because it was exactly what I wanted, which was red marbles. Also the shipping was totally reasonable.

OK the price of the marbles at $2.59 is OK but, seriously, $24.50 for shipping come on.

Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 15 Watt, 18-Inch

Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 15 Watt, 18-InchOrdered this light for my 20Gal Xtra-High Freshwater tank, and I'm extremely happy with the quality. It's as bright as a sunny day outside in my tank now, and the live plants I have already seem to be doing better with this.

Highly recommended for anyone who needs a new Aquarium light. Will definitely order again.

Very nice product. I did not use it in an aquarium...I built a "happy light" out of it (for winter blues). Bulbs are made in Germany and seem to emit the UV spectrum as advertised; A UV sensitive bead my child brought home from school indicated this. A similar bulb, bought from a big-box pet store did not emit UV waves, despite the packaging saying it did.

I don't know about the UV waves but this bulb brings a whole new look to my aquarium. Now it is brighter and all the colors are vibrant. It looks so good that now I have to replace the other bulb to match it.

Great light for a 10 gal tank with medium to low-light plants. My plants have experienced excellent growth. Don't keep the light on for more than 9 hours or you will see algae. Planted tanks are a balancing act. Find the right amount of light, the right fertilizer, and the right stocking amount, and your tank will glow with green. This light certainly helped me achieve that. Highly recommend this light for a 10 gal tank.

Bio Wheel 55 Gallon Kit with Led Light

Bio Wheel 55 Gallon Kit with Led LightI have shopped for THE aquarium for 40 years. I finally found it. This is the kit to buy if you do a web search for the best buy and free shipping. The Bio-Wheel 55 gallon comes with quality components. It has a complete hood with led lights with night & day settings. An AWESOME filtration system. Has a quality submersible heater and basic set up chemicals n food for freshwater start up. What you will need to finish it off is a STAND that can hold it up. After adding gravel, water n fish your aquarium will weigh approximately 10 lbs PER GALLON. So the 55 gallon finished out is about 600 lbs. You will need about 1/2 pound of gravel per gallon, chlorine treatment, air pump with bubble generator for added oxygen and circulation, plants, rocks, and ENZYME booster. ENZYME booster IS THE MOST IMPORTANT for a healthy aquarium. Enzyme booster protects water, fish with GOOD bacteria which keeps the aquarium from getting crusty calcium rings and fishy smells. Get a complete step by step guide on setting the aquarium up. WAIT a week after getting your aquarium filled and decorated and running BEFORE PURCHASING FISH. This will ensure the water is at the optimal temperature, all chlorine should be gone, and the beneficial bacteria will have an opportunity to get established. LOVE MY AQUARIUM. GOOD LUCK.

Marina Net Trap, Fine Mesh

Marina Net Trap, Fine MeshWe are in the process of trying to breed guppies. This breeding net is so simple to put together, and seems sturdy enough for all the fry. We have about 20 fry right now in there, and there is still plenty of room for more :). the only problem i have so far with it is the size, it would be fine for maybe a 10 gallon tank...but takes up alot of space in our small 6 gallon. We plan on updating our tank soon, because out guppies are multiplying like crazy. I would reccomend this to anybody who has a ten gallon tank or larger.

This little gadget is easy to assemble and super simple to assemble in a pinch! We have about 26 guppy babies that are happy and safe from the bigger fish of the tank :)

Buy Marina Net Trap, Fine Mesh Now

This net does what it is supposed to do, and once it's set into place, it is alright. But setting it up is a little painful. You insert the plastic sides, then pull the net tight and tie the string around the top. To secure it to the side of the tank, you use metal arms and bend them over the side. During this whole process those plastic sides you inserted are falling out of their hole (they do not click into place). But to look on the bright side... it works, it will fold flat when I'm finished with it.

i would recommend this to other customers, because i assembeled in less than 1 minute (LITERALLY) and it looks pretty good, except i was a little scared of the plastic rods breaking while assembling, but no it didn't so i am pretty glad with my purchase, i bought mine at a local pet store and it costed me about $6 a little more expensive than amazon, but i'd rather pay 50cents than wait 5-8 days for it to be shipped, i haven't used it yet, but i've already assembled it, the only bad thing about this item is that is has 2 metal hooks that you can easily bend to hook over your fish tank, not suction cups , so if you have a closed top fish tank like i do it won't close dow perfectly but oh well, not a big deal at all, a pretty good size no super big, and not super small, just right for my new baby guppy fry!!! have about 50 of them!!! the net also feels really soft, hope it stays that way for a long time!!

Hand Held Algae Pad - Acrylic

Hand Held Algae Pad - AcrylicThis item has never failed me, never scratches. When wiping the tank near the bottom, take care not to trap any material(dirt or gravel) between the pad and acrylic tank. Wet the pad for a couple of minutes before using. I use it for the inside of the tank, and also wipe the outside to eliminate water streaks and finger prints. On the outside,HAND HELD ALGAE PADACRYLIC finish with a soft cloth for a great appearance.

I had been using this cleaning pad to scrape the algae off my tank walls for several weeks with no problem. It preformed rather well removing the buildup with minimal scrubbing. When packing up the tank to move I first drained the water before using. BIG MISTAKE. Using this pad on a dry acrylic tank wall will scratch it. Nothing too noticeable but it's still there. I can't knock the too many stars off it because the packaging says only use on wet aquarium and it was so cheap, just be warned.

I cleaned my SeaClear 20 Gal acrylic tank with it. It does the job and doesn't scratch the tank. Just make sure you don't trap sand in it. The size is also good.

If you have an acrylic tank it's important to clean with a product designed for acrylic rather than glass or you will scratch your tank. I like this particular cleaning pad because of it's small size and easy to get in corners (something you can't do too well with a cleaner that's on a handle.) I am very satisfied with this product.

Tetra 19105 Water Wonders Fresh Water Plant Foxtail, 6-InchI was on here shopping one day and I was trying to reach the 25 dollars or more to get free shipping. I have a 10 gallon aquarium and I need some more plants in it. I found this plant and since it was super cheap and was eligible for free shipping, I bought it. It's a nice little plant for $2 and the picture of it here looks red. When it actually looks kind of pinkish which is fine with me. It's definitely worth buying for $2.

Adds some interest and places to hide in the tank. It also looks a bit more natural and nice once some algae starts to grow on it.

Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head

Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power HeadI have a 50 Gal Tank, with a variety of community fish appx 20 fish total, i have 2 snails, and a pleco. the tank is filtered by Fluval 305.

When i first set the tank up it was great, water couldnt be clearer. over time, it would accumulate floating algae (ALOT),so much algae that you could not see any of the fish, or any of the ornaments, and i would be doing anywhere from 20% to 50% water changes every week or every other week because it would get so bad, and sometimes the water changes would have very little to no effect on slowing down the algae growth. i DID NOT want to try chemicals because i find alot of people say that it just stresses out the fish, and i didnt want to try chemical treatment also because i didnt like the idea of having it in the water. so i started doing some research on how to make the situation better. i saw alot of diffrent styles of UV sterilizers (more expensive in MOST cases) and the fact that you need to buy/or already have a power head for them was not helping the situation financially. i came across AA's product and read a dozen reviews or so, where 9 out of 10 were positive.

i really love the fact that it is self contained, has it's own pump, filter, and UV light.. the instructions lack quality images and is a bit cumbersome to follow at first, but when you sit down and actually just look at the image of the unit on the box, you can figure out how to put it together yourself. the reason i bought the (24W) unit is because i felt that i had maybe a worse case than usual algae problem because there is sunlight from 2 windows hitting the tank (by the way, i tried cutting the light out of the tank, did not work)

Setup took literally 10 min, from out of the box to running in the tank, and was NO HASSLE at all. the first 24 hrs or so, i didn't really see a difference. then at 48 hrs i started to see like a milky but clearer situation in the tank, at the end of the third day, things were looking good but not perfect yet, finally on ONLY the 4th day, i can see not only the fish and ornaments, but straight through to the back of the tank!. i feel that this product works Extremely Efficiently and is a must have for anyone with algae/bacteria problems. the money i used to buy this product was very well spent, and i don't think there is a better unit within the price range to beat this. i can expect that in the next few days or so the water WILL BE clearer than tap water (ive read in reviews that its actually clearer than bottled water), i am very much looking forward to this.

i would give this product 10 stars out of 5 , that is how much i love it. it works great, IS QUIET (cant hear it AT ALL), and is very easy to set up. Would recommend to Everyone with an aquarium

With no UV sterilizer installed I have insane algae issues with my turtle tank. Think Shamrock Shake. A full water change and this Green Killing Machine installed and there's no sign of algae developing 2 weeks in. It's in a 75 gallon tank. I like that it lives inside the tank, so there's no potential for leaking. The setup they have to power the UV lamp and the included powerhead from one AC adapter is pretty spiffy. I replaced a leaking 15W Pentair Lifeguard with this, and it's 24W vs the Pentair's 15W, for half the cost.

It's toy-like product name and low price had me a little dubious of its quality, but so far its living up to it's title.

Buy Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head Now

Keeping fish for the past 40 years and experimeting with U.V Sterilizers for the past seven my read on them is that tanks fitted with the right sized unit is a definite plus. What had put me off about UV systems was the need for pumps, tubing , plumbing and the overall hassle of installing them .

This unit includes the pump requires no hoses or tubing to run and nothing extra to buy you can literally take this out of the box, attach inside your tank or sump, plug it in and that's that.

Regarding the selling of UV in general there is far to much emphasis on green algae. Removing algae is little more than a side benefit. What UV does extremely well is remove disease causing pathogens and harmful bacteria from the water. Especially important in well stocked tanks. What U. V sterilizers do is pull in water which flows past an encased in clear quartz tube and is exposed to UV light, which kills up to 99% of harmful pathogens. So more important than GPH or anything else for that matter is the exposure time with which water passes by the UV bulb.

I think marketing this as a "Green Killing Machine" is probably a smart idea and would get the attention of hobbyists who otherwise could give a hoot about the other benefits of UV. However if your algae is due to things like too much full spectrum light, over feeding or poor water water parameters this is just a bandaid that will only at it's best disguise the real and significant problems facing your aquarium.

What is more, this unit a incedibly cumbersome three seperate components and a myraid of wires both inside and outside the tank make this a potentially dangerous product for fish as well as humans. Much like the spiral design of the Coral Life systems, the zig zag interior of this system employs this same kind of theory in design to add as much exposure time to the UV and in my book that trumps GPG ratings which are usually false to begin with. However, this isn't to say GPH isn't important of course it is and this is also the key area of this design that's lacking.

The MFG doesn't list the GPH because it's so terribly low. Using a Hach instrumentation flow meter which works on sound waves and runs about 3 grand this pump has a flow rate of 11.2 GHP which is unacceptable for any size tank even though the unit contains a whopping 24 watt UV lamp. In addition remember UV can't penetrate glass without being diluted hence, quartz fashioned into a true lens is used as housing. Because the unit is effective although extremly slow my best guess is fused glass is used. Fused glass is a combination of quartz and glass and is a fraction of the cost of pure quartz. To replace the cover of the included 24 watt bulb with pure quartz at a rock bottom price would cost you $65-$75

The enormous tangle of wires and having the control box outside on the wall or back of the tank is an accident waiting to happen not to mention, the suction cups used on the outside are weak and the unit falls off frequently. They call this "child proofing" -and it's nonsense. Any child is going to be more inclined to pull something off the tank that's just sitting there than figure out a way to get their hands into the aquarium.

Take a pass on this particular unit until they at least address it's many flaws.

** Never use a UV Sterilizer in a new or still cycling aquarium, these are for established aquariums only Plus you don't need to run UV 24/7 twelve hours a day or less is fine for most applications. It's a good idea to plug the unit into a dedicated power strip or use with a timer since these don't have an on/off switch**

** You can increase the efficiency of any UV Steelier, your filter and the overall health of your tank by adding a small water circulator. If you don't need a power head these are ideal. The keep the current in your tank even and eliminate cold and hot spots. The temperature will be uniform. The current keeps particulate matter waterborne making it easier for things like filters and UV systems to do a better job. Brown algae and green algae spores are poor swimmers, the current helps keep them from attaching to tank walls and sides and off any ornaments, dried corals, rocks and so on.

I recommend the ones by Aqueon they're silent, do a great job, install right out of the box and are a fraction of the cost of most others.

My 120 gallon tank gets a good bit of natural light. I set it up in October and about 2 months later the water went from clear to slime green in a couple days. I couldn't see an inch into the tank. I did some research, but decided with the natural light that it would probably come back, so I got the green killing machine and hoped for the best. My water cleared up about a day after putting it in the tank and has stayed clear!

Want Green Killing Machine Internal 24 Watts UV Sterilizer with Power Head Discount?

Sure it clears the water. Help get rid of things like ich? Doubt it natural supplements like garlic have been the trick for me. Another reviewer mentioned the cables, yeah they are a little messy. The suction cups on the powerbox stink, they hold for about 3 hours on clean glass. The suction cups on the unit itself do not hold at all. I have this in my refugium and its not mounted because it wont stay mounted... Clean the sponge/prefilter often. It does clear up green water /excessive algae but i didnt have a problem with that anyway. A friend had turned me on to this as he had problem algae and this did great work in a matter of days. Water changes and good husbandry would do the same though... I wouldnt buy this again but i wouldnt discourage you from buying it since it is available at the major pet store chains and replacement parts/units are available and its cheap.

Pennplax Red Bonsai Tree Aquarium Decor, 8-Inch

Pennplax Red Bonsai Tree Aquarium Decor, 8-InchBeautiful addition to a betta tank. He absolutely loves to sit on the leaves., and since it's made of silk, it won't damage his fins.

The product was as pictured. Some leaves were bent and sticking out in unnatural directions, but that was fixed with some coaxing (just gently push them where you want them and hold them there for a bit).

I found that the back of the pot and the base of the tree were rather ugly (in my opinion), so I put the ornament as deep into the sand as possible. Cuts down on the height but it looks great.

Hagen Elite Air Pump for Aquarium - 110 V

Hagen Elite Air Pump for Aquarium - 110 VYou know some things are not built to last, but this brand pump gets 5 STARS! We have had these for 12-15 years and they still work flawlessly just as they did the day we purchased them. Actually, we might have a few older than that, but it's been so long I can't remember. WISE INVESTMENT!

I bought this pump back in May 2010 my aquarium is I believe to be about 40 gallons may be a little larger I use two airiator wands in this aquarium, this little pump I thought might not be big enough to supply enough air but it does a very good job it does as good as my old pump that was much bigger the only problem with it is that does vibrate pretty much but if you set it on a piece of cardboard or something similar it works quite well overall for the money it is a really great deal.

Bought this to make compost tea in a 5 gallon bucket. I might have a defective unit because it won't make bubbles unless the end of the tubing is less than 1/2 inch from water surface. I noticed on the pump it has only 2.5 psi.

Ace Photo Digital shipped promptly and for free, so this is not a knock on them, but the two stars is for the product which did not perform as expected.

EDIT:

OK, my error. I had used a hose that did not seat properly. With the correctly sized hose this little pump worked great and percolated my compost tea in two days.

Gulfstream Tropical AGU00035A Mag-Float Acrylic Aquarium Cleaner, Small

Gulfstream Tropical AGU00035A Mag-Float Acrylic Aquarium Cleaner, SmallAt 2.25" x 1.25", this magnet is perfect for small tanks. I use it in my 5 gal freshwater acrylic tank, and it does a good job of scrubbing the algae off without leaving any scratches behind.

You can leave these on/in the tank all the time, but I have 2 inquisitive little kids who like to play with magnets, so in between cleanings, I take the magnets off and store them on a shelf. These magnets are VERY strong, which is great because you can vigorously scrub with them and they won't lose contact with each other -and if they do, they float, so there's no need to reach down into the tank to retrieve the fallen piece! -but if you put them together outside of the tank, they will want to snap together ferociously, and woe is you if your finger pads happen to be in the way. So keep them away from kids!

Bottom line: If you need to get a magnetic cleaner for your fish tank, the Mag Float is the way to go because the magnets are strong, well-made, they float, and come in a nice compact size. I expect that I will not need to replace mine for as long as I have my tank, which makes it well worth the price.

I made sure that I ordered the acrylic one. I used it once, and it put really fine surface scratches in my Aqueon Mini-Bow acrylic tank.

The magnet function works well. If I had a glass tank, I'd recommend the glass version. But I don't think this is a good algae brush for an acrylic tank.

I use my Mag Float 30 (small) for my 28-gallon acrylic hexagon reef aquarium. Acrylic hexagons are probably some of the hardest types of aquariums to clean especially if you try to use any of the long-handle, plastic scrubbers due to limited, top-clearance access. I still use my plastic-handle scrubber periodically, but the Mag Float helps me reach the areas that I cannot reach. I really like how the Mag float magnet floats to the top when separtated. Like the other reviewer stated, I cannot scrub the curved edges with the Mag Float. Despite what other reviewers have stated I have not encountered any scratches on my acrylic aquarium due to the use of the Mag Float. Works fine with me!

Tetra Pond Bottom Drain

Tetra Pond Bottom DrainI decided to enlarge my Koi pond from 1600 gallons to 6000 gallons and after having a pond for several years, I decided to install two bottom drains under the pond to assist with keeping the water clear and free of fish waste. Using a skimmer that removes the top layer of water and anything floating is great, (I still have a skimmer attached) but having the bottom drain means that all the leaves and "mess" that settles on the bottom of the pond is now gone and I do not have to worry about renting or buying a vacuum to clean out the pond every year.

And for those of you out there that are concerned about putting a hole in the bottom of your pond, the design of these drains is well thought out and the potential for leaks is extremely low. I have 81 koi in my pond and I would never do anything that would jeapordize their survival. I have a cleaner pond and could not be happier.

I am using this for a drain in my small duck pond and it is working GREAT.

Aqueon 09808 Geranium Aquarium Plant, 16-Inch

Aqueon 09808 Geranium Aquarium Plant, 16-InchThis is a really good product considering its price. I've bought other plants for almost the same price and none of them can be compared to this one in terms of quality.

The plant looks not fake, but I wouldn't say it's very realistic.

I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a great piece of decoration and cover for their fish.

I like these plants. They look so good in an Aquarium. I have purchased these plants many time and will do so again.

Hydor H2Show Bubble Maker - Internal Venturi Air Pump for Aquariums - Original Ario 2

Hydor H2Show Bubble Maker - Internal Venturi Air Pump for Aquariums - Original Ario 2I bought it along with the hydor 4 (stronger motor) and found this one to disperse smaller bubbles like a mist. I am going to replace my external air pumps with internal air pumps. Its actully smallar than external pump and you cant hear it at all. Be prepared for all the bubbles. I placed in 30 galon and its standar bubbles. I have a 10 galon and i think its to much bubbles for it. It has an air valve that can be adjusted but it does not work well. The cables where fine for me as i have black background. Any questions are welcome.

I love this! It produces a very fine mist of bubbles that do not overpower my 29 gallon tank. It is barely audible, and I love that I don't have to buy a bunch of tubing and a separate airstone. It is a quality product; easy to use, simple, and great for the cost. I don't think I will be able to go back!

this in-tank aerator puts out a huge amount of tiny bubbles which significantly raises the dissolved oxygen level in the water in my 20-gallon aquarium. airflow can be adjusted with a provided plastic valve. wide tower of bubbles looks so cool. my fish like to play in it. submersible air pump barely shows above gravel. needs to be weighted down. silent running. easy setup.

This bubble maker is awesome it lets out a constant stream of tons of small bubbles. I was surprised by how small the bubbler was once we opened it and was worried that it wouldn't really impact the tank since it was so small but was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of bubbles that are produced!

I thought that this was supposed to come with the lights for the multi-colored effect, but it does not. Apparently we read the description wrong so if you want the multi-colored light-show make sure to purchase the optional lights too!

Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filters with UV Clarifier

Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filters BP1500-UVI installed this filter 3 weeks ago. So far it is working great. It has my pond water crystal clear and has removed all algae, dirt and odors. I especially like the fact that I have'nt needed to change any foam filters since it does'nt have any. I also bought the Tetra DHP3600 pump which was recommended for the back flush to work properly. It also increased the water flow to my waterfalls.

I have had a pond for 9 years and was getting tired of constantly cleaning the foam filter. I almost decided to get rid of the pond but the way this product has eliminated the maintenance, I decided to keep it.

We have a kidney bean shaped 1000 gallon outdoor pond that was getting very difficult to maintain. We have plenty of oxygenating plants (a few lily pads, parrot's feather, aquatic mint) which was keeping a lot of the algae at bay but the water was always cloudy and difficult to see into. A friend purchased the larger version and sold me on it, so we figured we'd give it a shot.

Installing the filter is easy: connect your pump to the filter inlet with tubing and then more tubing from the outlet to where you want it to flow... in our case, the top of our waterfall. Make sure to purchase some Teflon Tape to wrap the inlet and outlet adapters and a few Hose Clamps based on the size of your tubing for a waterproof seal. We plugged it in (the UV light needs electricity) and waited a few days. The instructions say it takes up to 3 weeks to start seeing the effects.

In our case, the water cleared up in 2 days! Literally, crystal clear water. Now keep in mind, this filter does not remove all the algae in the pond, the UV light sterilizes the algae so it cannot reproduce. It makes it a lot easier to maintain though and does not disappoint. There is a convenient knob on the top of the unit to backflush the unit if it gets clogged. Simply turn the knob from one direction to the other and it will backflush all of the dirt and debris from the filter out of the unit. Turn the knob back on to resume normal flow.

All in all, we are very satisfied, the price is a bit steep but definitely the cheapest around and completely worth it in the long run. One more thing to keep in mind, whenever you use a pressure filter in a pond system, expect a normal loss of anywhere from 25-45% in water flow. Make sure you have a pump that is between 3000 and 4500 gallons per hour and it should work just fine for you and you won't have too much of a noticeable loss.

This filter is wonderful. I previously had a jebo filter that was cheap and got the job done for about a year, but when it comes to ponds the saying,"You get what you pay for," is very true. I love the backwash feature on this tetra filter, so much better than the jebo! Although I wish the outlet for the backwash was a standard garden hose size for more convenient watering of my garden plants, but is an easy fix. The construction is very sturdy, if it needs parts to be replaced they are easy to find online. Putting the filter media in initially is a little tricky, but worth it because I'll never have to do that again. no more hosing off the filter sponges, yay!

After getting a recommendation from my local pond store I purchased the Tetra Pond Bio-Active Pressure Filter and it is such a treat to NOT have to wash out the sponges from my previous filter. It took about 3 weeks but my pond is clear!!!!

I've been using this filter for a couple of years, and overall I'm very happy with it. One point to note, however: It's possible for the filter to be overwhelmed by too much string algae. If this happens, back flushing just doesn't work. If back flushing doesn't seem to work for you (or only works for a day or less) and you open up the filter canister and see that it's filled with a thick "pudding" of green algae with the filter pellets embedded in that pudding, then you've got a problem.

But not an insoluble one. After some experimentation I came up with a good way to clean the filter media -a method that's vastly better than trying to clean each pellet off with your fingers:

1. Get a five-gallon bucket and drill a lot of holes in the bottom. These holes should be about 5/16" in size -too small for the filter pellets to fit through or get jammed in. Drill as many holes as you can without them overlapping.

2. Scoop several handfuls of the algae-and-filter-pellet goop out of your filter and into the bucket.

3. Using a garden hose with the nozzle set to a tightly-focused spray, work the spray back and forth over the goop in your bucket, holding the bucket at an angle with just the edge resting on the ground (this allows the water to run through the holes in the bottom of the bucket easily). Gradually (assuming you have good water pressure) the algae will be blasted away from the pellets and flushed out through the bottom of the bucket.

4. Take the cleaned pellets out of the bucket and set aside. Repeat the process with more batches of goop from the filter, but note that you don't want all the pellets to be completely algae-free; you need some algae in there for the filter to work.

5. I spoke to the people at Tetra Pond, and they recommended a product like Phosphate Minus to cut down on the amount of string algae growing in my pond, and to hopefully keep this from happening again.
