Super Naturals Peace River Gravel (40 lbs)

I used to use Sand Blast Sand for my planted tanks when I lived in Texas. However, after days of disappointment trying to find blast sand in Ohio I broke down and ordered the Super Naturals Peace River Gravel off Amazon Marketplace. With the exception of a bit of confusion in shipping (at first I only got one bag instead of two) and the surprise that this is NOT the sand with the water conditioner/live bacteria in it, I am very pleased with this product. The tips on the front of the bag about rinsing the gravel were great and as much as I hate clarifier, the included goo did its job well.

I will say that if you can, buy the Peace River Gravel with the water conditioner and bacteria already in it. It's worth the extra couple of bucks to be able to put it straight in the tank without rinsing.

The particle size is perfect for planted tanks. South American cichlids and other larger fish will also like this because they can move it around with their mouths or bury themselves in it. This will not clog the gills of these fish and does not settle too tightly for plant roots. In the past I would use blasting sand with Fluourite or another plant substrate mixed in. Cleaning is easy and it is not likely that it will be sucked up during gravel vacuuming.

If you have to buy gravel off the internet, this is the stuff!

The very best product for fish pond care. I have a small pond and waterfall (350 gallons) and it gets cloudy and dirty every few months, particularly in the summer. Bought this to make compost tea in a 5 gallon bucket. I might have a defective unit because it won't make bubbles unless the end of the tubing is less than 1/2 inch from water surface. I noticed on the pump it has only 2.5 psi.

OK, my error. I had used a hose that did not seat properly. With the correctly sized hose this little pump worked great and percolated my compost tea in two days.

I have tried the "made in China" replicas of these filters before and they only last one month before you have to throw them away as the blue floss material rips apart from rinsing. But with the real deal Marineland filters, I have been able to rinse them out and re use them for as long as I want. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I tried Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria after seeing a recommendation from Mr SaltwaterTank that you could cycle a tank more quickly with this product. I set up a new 60 gallon tank with 20 gallon sump. I dumped in Dr Tim's and two clown fish the same day. I did bring several pounds of live rock across from another established tank to help with the transition. I am several months in now and never had a problem or any spikes. Started 20 gal Fish Only, Bare Bottom Tank with this product. The fish were being moved from an existing tank. I made up my salt water to match the fishes existing environment, used an un-seeded canister filter and simply added "One and Only". Tank has been up and running fro 6 weeks now. The fish never missed a beat. This is the first time, for me, in 30+ years of fish-keeping,that an additive performed exactly as claimed. After loosing far too many fish (belonging to my grandchildren, but living at Nanny's house) I began looking online for a line of products with great customer reviews. I found Dr. Tim's. I spent quite a bit for the following products for my 10 gal. fresh water aquarium One and Only, Waste Away, Clear Up, Refresh. After once again loosing two gorgeous large butterfly gold fish to ich, I started over with two new Carandas and these products. I was able to put the fish in on the same day using Nestle's purified water which is all I use. The water stayed clear and clean and I've had very little upkeep. I use these products weekly, rinse the filter in between new filters and I've had a gorgeous tank with two of the most beautiful fish I've ever seen one red head with white body and one very bright dark gold. Yes, they are a bit expensive, but when you consider the cost of new fish and replacing everything each time you have to start over Dr. Tim's is well worth the money. They also have great customer support.

Don't bother with the cheaper products it's just not worth it in the long run. If you can afford it, use Dr. Tim's.

I should state before hand that I don't own this particular aquarium and so I can't testify to the quality of this item, and that I'm writing from experience and research.

Contrary to popular belief, Bettas don't live in puddles in the wild; They live in vast rice paddies which are thousands of gallons of naturally filtrated and aerated water. They only live in small puddles for about 2 or 3 months out of the year.

What's more, fancy bettas are not very similar to their wild buddies; they prefer larger aquariums with more stimulation, like plants and hiding places (maybe even compatible buddies?).

When I was 12 I bought two bettas and put them into separate small novelty tanks because I was told that was all they wanted or needed. Then at 13, I bought 1 more and put it into an old 3 gallon tank with filtration and aeration.

I saw the difference immediately; He was happier, healthier, moved more, more responsive, more alert, reacted when i came near the tank to clean or feed or watch him...Just absolutely happy. When I saw the difference I bought 2 and 3 gallon tanks and put the other two into them and they perked up as well! Whats more, the boy I initially put into the 3 gallon tank lived a whole year longer than the others!

This aquarium says 1 gallon at the top, and suggests putting two Bettas into it (With the divider).

Putting two bettas close together will stress them out. What's more, any illness one has can potentially be passed on to the other. Finally, if you put in two bettas, you might not be able to put in plants, which Bettas like to rest and sleep on (or at least mine and a few of my buddies' did).

I would buy this tank as a Isolation, Quarantine, or hospital tank though; it's small enough to easily treat a separated fish, you can measure out smaller amounts of medicine (I've done Epsom salt treatments on my guppies before in these sort of tanks, and it's easier in a 1 gallon than a 10 gallon and usually uses less medicine if its measured by the gallon). What's more, I think it would be OK to put a single, aggressive male guppy in if he can't be put back into the community tank (personal experience also), or to house some fry (but not many) in. Best of all, this tank is VERY affordable.

I might even buy this as a "between tanks" tank, when I'm prepping another tank for the fish.

But as a permanent house for a Betta? Never. 3 gallons or larger.

I love this toy, and so does my small 5lb dog. She is a squeaker killer, and destuffer (of the cheapest toys that fall apart)and this toy went 6+ months with a squeaker intact while most toys don't make it a night(although the squeaker is now broken, we've had the toy for over a year) and it is still solid and will not be destuffed anytime soon. Our fish love this stuff, and they seem to thrive on it. I'm puzzled by the other reviewer who said that this product smelled too strongly and caused his whole room to "smell like fish food." I don't have that problem at all. With the container closed, I can't smell this food even if I hold it to my nose. If I _open_ the container and hold it to my nose, that's a different story. But I can't imagine it stinking up a whole room, no matter how sensitive one's nose is.

All my fish eat this food without hesitation. My only gripe about this product is the intense smell of the fish flakes. The case does not seal the smell so unless you want your room to smell like fish food you will have to put the entire canister somewhere else or in a tighter case. Other than that, the fish have no problems with the food but customers might find the smell too much. Good luck with your fish!

The picture may allude to the idea that these are quite large bags. I didn't notice the description stated 8.5 ounces so I was a little surprised how small the bag was, but that's at no fault of the seller. The rocks look great in the tank; the only very slight annoyance was how long it took to clean them before placing them in the tank. It took a good 15 minutes to wash and rinse (repeat about 10 times) before the water was clear enough for my satisfaction. Overall, I will purchase more when needed.

My fish got so tired of all the plain old rocks in his tank. They're "too basic" he said, "they look like all the other aquarium rocks" he lamented. I didn't know what to do. He became more and more despondent as the days and weeks went on. I gave him a book on Fung Shui to see if it would cheer him up. I figured he could find some way to reach inner-peace with his aquarium if only he could explore his deeper fish desires. Finally one day he declared the solution to all his problems was known to him.

It would be in creating a new home space consisting of only black and white elements. That way, he explained, everything happening outside his tank... the television, the people walking by, the birds flying by the living room window would be explosions of rich colorful life not marred by the fake rocks currently in his tank. "You'll see" he told me, "this is the start of a brand new life... for the both of us!".

Just two days later the new rocks arrived and I placed them in his tank. Ever since then he has taken to writing poetry, practicing his back flips and I never hear a single complaint. Every once in awhile, with a smug look on his face, he'll talk about how all the other fish in the neighborhood are jealous of his remodel. Had I known these black rocks were the solution to all of our problems I would have purchased them months ago.

I read other peoples' reviews, looked up how much the weight is, and still its a really small bag of rocks. Its like the size of three burger patties stacked on top of one another. I have a 10 gal with a little under 20 lbs of substrate and this just peppers the surface. Looks cool but still less than i thought. It is a bag of rocks though.

Its better to buy this in a brick and mortar store. The "gravel" are barely just above grains of sand. Makes cleaning the take a pain because I have to worry about losing them each time.

You can get a bag, of the same gravel, from walmart, that is 5 times the size, for the same price. It's a TINY bag of gravel. This product is for the smallest fishbowls, and/or making your own colored gravel assortments. I mixed mine in with the big bag of gravel that I got from walmart and it looks alright. I have a 5 gallon tank, and the gravel from walmart was just nearly enough to cover the bottom, but not enough to hold down the plants. This helped a little, but I'm sorely disappointed in myself for spending money on this.

There's not much to say in a review of an o-ring. It's either the right size or it's not. More importantly, the seller had this part available when none of the local fish stores in DFW did.
