Tetra 19550 6-Pack Whisper Aquarium Filter Cartridge, Small

Tetra 19550 6-Pack Whisper Aquarium Filter Cartridge, SmallItem arrived well packaged, on time and as described in the item description. Good quality and can easily recommend to others.

I use these filters with a petsmart Glotank for my glowfish. The filter that came with the kit uses these filters. They've never given me any issues, so that's that!

I bought a small tank which contained a whisper filter these size small filters work well and don't cloud the water. My only complaint is, if you have any larger debris that is sucked into the filter it falls out as you pull the cartridge out of the filter.

Coralife 05486 50/50 Straight Pin Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 65-Watt

Coralife 05486 50/50 Straight Pin Compact Fluorescent Lamp, 65-WattWhen you first plug this bulb in and turn on the fixture, it will make the colors in your tank "pop," from fish to corals. Sadly, that doesn't last long, and within a couple of months it's not much better than any standard fluorescent bulb. (I really noticed the difference when I replaced one of the two bulbs on my fixture, and saw the radical difference in light intensity and hue between the new and old.)

I think for my next fixture, I'll be looking at LEDs...

Tubes give off sufficient light and duration. Only slightly cheaper than purchasing at aquarium store. In any case, these tubes are way over priced and I'd looks to see if there is not a better and cheaper technology!

Marina Decor Polyresin Cave, Small

Marina Decor Polyresin Cave, SmallUpdate. The Fluval Spec was damaged and was way too small. We bought a 5 gallon aquarium kit locally. The small cave works great. The betta loves it. There has been no fading or chipping or coloring of the water. A great item still.

We just received this cave and it's pretty cool. We haven't received the aquarium yet so I can only comment on the dry cave itself.

The plants were bent from being in the shipping box. A few minutes with the hot setting on my hair dryer fixed that. They are not silk, but a very soft plastic. I see no problem with our betta tearing his fins on it.

The cave is made of very thick resin and it is heavy for its size. The plants are removable if you don't like them. We will leave them on. The bottom is open so placing it should be no problem. The inside of the cave is black to provide a better refuge.

It's relatively large to be labeled as small, but the medium and large versions are huge. The measurements were provided on the Amazon item page so it wasn't a surprise.

This one will be going in a Fluval Spec and it looks to be a perfect fit with a couple 8" silk plants behind it.

I haven't seen any better in this size and price range and we did a great deal of shopping before ordering our new aquarium and equipment. As always, Amazon is a great place to shop.

Good quality material, my Betta loves it! One of the leave snapped off pretty easily during the first washing of it though, but it's not really a big deal. Unlike the other reviews, this item will not cloud your tank. The 'clouding' people experience is due to a bacterial bloom, and can happen when cleaning your tank and adding new water. It clears up in about a week or so, which is why when the reviewer removed the cave days later the cloudiness seemed to go away with the removal of the cave. I'd definitely recommend this to fish lovers though! It looks nice, arrived bubbled wrapped and all, perfect condition, and the fish was in it just hours after putting it in the tank.

My betta is in a 3 gallon tank which gets one water change a week. The next day after adding the cave, the water was very cloudy. I changed the water and cleaned the cave thoroughly with just water, put it back in and the next day the water was cloudy again. Took the cave out, changed water and now the water is clear three days later. I don't know why the cave is clouding the water and if it's harmful to my fish, but I won't be using it again.

Edited to add: The plastic plant is WAY too sharp for any fish and I removed it as soon as I took it out of the box.

Petco Suction Cups for Aquarium Heaters

Petco Suction Cups for Aquarium HeatersThe ones I received were not at all as in the photo or as in the item description. They were all in one piece. The ring to fit around the heater did NOT have a gap, but rather was all one continuous ring with no way to enlarge or adjust the size and thus way too small to fit around my aquarium heater. They were totally useless to me. And I have a Eheim 100W heater, no larger than the average heater. I don't like to give negative reviews, but beware ordering these as you may get something totally different than what you expect that will not work for you. For my purposes they are absolute junk. Maybe I'll find some other use for them sometime, but they won't be holding my aquarium heater.

the suction cups are permanently attached to the clips which go around the heater entirely (different from image). they are clear which has a nicer look. the suction cups work very well.

Aquatic Fundamentals 10/20 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf

Aquatic Fundamentals 10/20 Gallon Aquarium Stand with ShelfIt's unfortunate that this stand is misrepresented in the product description. I recently purchased a 16g Nuvo Aquarium to use for a reef setup. Unfortunately, upon opening the box for this stand, which was packaged nicely, there is a sticker that specifically states that the maximum capacity of this stand is 200lbs. Let's do some math:

Tank ~40 lbs

Salt Water (16g @ 8.556 lbs/g) = ~137 lbs

Live Rock (Approx 1-2 lbs per gallon) = ~16 lbs

Live Sand (Approx 1 lb per gallon) = 16 lbs

209 lbs and that isn't including equipment needed to run the tank.

If you were to go with a fresh water tank at 20 gallons you are at 167 lbs with just water. Just a heads up.

Don't get me wrong here. I think the stand looks nice. I didn't put it together to avoid wasting my time (which I guess is moot now that I have to return it), so if you intend to use this for a 10 gallon tank, I'm sure the stand will look great and function well. The shelves look like they are coated in a nice finish as well. Unfortunately, this won't work for me. I REALLY wish I had known what this sticker said BEFORE I ordered it.

I shopped around for an aquarium stand and found a lot of expensive items that I didn't really like. I wanted something simple, not a giant piece of furniture. And I wanted something easy to assemble. This stand is sturdy, it looks nice, and it took 20 minutes to put together. Our aquarium is a 10 gallon tank, but it would accommodate a 20 gallon as well. There just wouldn't be any space around the edges of the top shelf.

My only (small) complaint is that the threads on one of the leg pieces were messed up so it was very hard to put one of the screws in. But that was probably just on the one I got and not a universal problem.

What else can I say? I like it a lot, it was exactly what I was looking for and it was a lot less expensive than the other aquarium stands I researched.

Buy Aquatic Fundamentals 10/20 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf Now

This product was easy to assemble (took about 20 minutes with no tools needed). Once built, it is very sturdy. I have used for both 10 & 20 gallon standard tank & fits great. However, a 20 gallon long does not fit. I placed baskets on the bottom 2 shelves and it hides all the food & equipment very well. The only complaint I have is that is a little to short (stands ~3 feet tall).

Read Best Reviews of Aquatic Fundamentals 10/20 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf Here

Almost everything about this stand is perfect for me. It's simple, inexpensive, not too large and very sturdy. My only complaint is that it is not completely waterproof. I spilled a bit of water on it during a water change and it created a couple of small welts. Its not very noticeable though so I don't really mind. I highly recommend this stand for smaller aquariums!! :)

Want Aquatic Fundamentals 10/20 Gallon Aquarium Stand with Shelf Discount?

There's room on top of this stand for our 10 gallon tank, the food, and a small lamp for the sofa next to it. The relatives eager to put this together (including a 10 year old) started with the shelves in the wrong order and ended up making a permanent mark on the eventual top shelf from columns screwed in too tightly. They thought the instructions were a little confusing. Anyway, I think it's nice and sturdy and well balanced with weight on top. Good value for the price.

Exotic Environments Great Spire Bridge Aquarium Ornament

Exotic Environments Great Spire Bridge Aquarium OrnamentIf you are looking for a castle with purple accents (which we were as it's my daughter's fave color), then this isn't the castle for you. The picture looked almost exactly like we wanted, but it arrived today and to our dismay it's actually blue (see my customer image). However, it's what we wanted otherwise: perfect size for our 3 gallon tank, hiding place/pathways for our beta, and the details in the design are really cool. Unfortunately, now we have to change our entire color scheme to match the castle, but we do love it enough to keep it and to not keep hunting for another one:).

This brand of aquarium decorations is the best I've purchased. They are colorful, sturdy and provide excellent hiding places for betas. I have two betas, one in each tank of course, and they play hide and seek with each other. The description and measurements are spot on. So far I have replaced 3 of 4 ornaments, all purchased from Amazon.com with Exotic Environments decor. This is the company I will go to for any additional purchases. It is a rare treat to get what you've ordered and be more than pleased with everything about it!

Zilla 11955 Fresh Air Screen Cover, 6-Inch by 12-Inch

Zilla 11955 Fresh Air Screen Cover, 6-Inch by 12-InchI am so glad I found this screen! I just purchased a 3 gallon glass tank, which had an "open" concept: there was a little glass top, but it left a lot of open space at the top, which I decided to change (buying a betta, which I understand likes to jump). I could never find this type of metal cover in any store, so luckily I found this one online. It is not a snug fit, because it's for a smaller tank, but I can still set it on top, and have space for any cords. Also, it arrived in record time, and I appreciate this from the sellers.

I couldn't find any cover for my tank and then I stumbled upon this! it works great! only thing I would have liked to see is that they would have had a picture of the back of the label on here so I coulda know to look for the other things that work with the cage top before I ordered it

Marineland C-220 Multi-Stage 55 Gal Canister Filter

Marineland C-220 Multi-Stage 55 Gal Canister FilterI know its a bit premature to write a complete review, but I'd like to set the record straight with regards to set up, and address the concerns of the one-star reviewer (David).

I found the filter a breeze to set up. My only concern is the instructions, but I'll address that below.

A few notes about my situation:

-relatively new to aquarium keeping set up first pond (small 75 gallons) this spring.

-purchased new 33 gallon aquarium to house pond fish for winter

-2x3" goldfish, 1 dojo loach

-had previously constructed a home-made filter for the pond, which was the bees knees!

When I purchased the aquarium, I bought a 30 gallon Aqua-Clear (Hang-on type) filter to go with it. I didn't even open the box before deciding it might not be the best filter for my set-up. So, I took it back.

After a bit of research, I decided on another hang-on power filter the Marineland Penguin BIO-Wheel 200. I was thinking that more filtration is better, and thus selected the 200 model.

I actually opened the box on this one, and discovered that my tank would have to be approx. 3.5" away from the wall in order for it to sit level. I didn't want the ugly thing on the front of my tank, nor could I put it on the side as my light bar did not allow enough space. I wasn't comfortable having my tank that far from the wall, so I packed it back up and returned it to the store.

After doing even more research (clearly I hadn't done enough of it by this point), I decided that a canister would meet my needs to a T. Generally speaking, they clean more and clean better, and would allow my tank to fit closer to the wall. With chemical, biological and mechanical filtering a canister seemed the way to go.

So, which one to choose?

We researched many, many, many canisters. We spent hours discussing the pros and cons of each brand, each review, each reviewer's setup (compared to ours), costs, tube size, filter media in short, we dissected each contender until we'd narrowed it down to two. The Marineland C-Series 220 and the Eheim Ecco.

In the end, cost and availability of replacement media were the deciding factors. We went with the Marineland.

I purchased Marineland C-Series 220 from my LFS for $135 CAD, and set it up in a brand-new 33 gallon tank. Although the filter is rated for a 50 gallon, I'd like to over-do it with the filtration.

The instructions were simple enough to follow, although I would recommend doing your online research on the set up of this unit, just to familiarize yourself with the process (esp. if you are brand-new, like me). I was initially a little leary with the Marineland, as I had read somewhere that contrary to its box-label, it didn't actually self-fill. But, I bought it anyways. See below for additional info on this!

This canister comes with everything you need to get going all the tubes, fittings and filter media. Please ensure that your LFS sells the replacement media you need, BEFORE you buy the canister. As Dave pointed out, what good is an excellent canister, if you can't buy more stuff when its time to replace the media?

The tubes fit snuggly with no leakage, using the compression fittings already attached to the valve block. Familiarize yourself with the way the valve block works this will assure you that it will NOT leak when you have to remove it for maintenance.

The valve block has two tabs used to disengage it from the motor head. The first tab is actually a ball-valve, which lifts and cuts the water to/from the tubes. The second tab rotates, and is the mechanism which locks the valve block to the rest of the canister. The first tab will fold over the second to ensure that it is not accidentally unlocked.

This model has five filtering layers. They are as follows, from bottom to top (the direction the water is forced through): filter foam, carbon bags, BIO-filter balls, ceramic rings, filter floss.

Rinse your media filter, as per the directions. This model has 5 layers of media to keep your tank sparkling clean, and all the trays lift out easily for maintenance. The trays inside simply stack in order.

The one thing I'd like to point out to Marineland, is that their instructions do not indicate which port is the intake, and which is the outlet.

After getting everything situated and hooked up I thought, well... how much difference is it really going to make if I mix them up?

It makes a lot of difference, actually!

I'm not an engineer, but you need to make sure that the intake tube and strainer is on the intake tube, and the outlet tube and diffuser is on the outlet tube. Otherwise, you could press the primer button till your fingers fell off, and your canister won't fill.

It may tease you by partially filling. It may tease you by completely filling. It may tease you by dribbling a bit of water down into the canister body. Don't be fooled. It doesn't work.

The outlet is on the left, and the intake is on the right, when the canister is facing you.

Switching the strainer and diffuser, I depressed the quick-prime button two more times, and VOILA! The machine gurgled to life, started sucking back the water, and chugged happily away!

It's that easy.

I'm serious.

The motor is super quiet I have my aquarium in the living room on a buffet-style side table. The canister is simply sitting underneath, in the cabinet. I'm currently sitting approx. 15 feet away, and I can't hear it.

Below are the intstructions, in case you want to see what I'm talking about.

Looks complicated but don't be fooled. If you've got an iota of brains, you'll be on your way in no time.Stay tuned for an actual performance review.

I have been running the Marineland C-220 for about 16 months on a 30 gallon saltwater aquarium.

In general, this filter has had good flow, and been quiet and good filtration capability. With a monthly cleaning and replacement of media, water has been consistently clear and tested within acceptable parameters. Replacement media is a bit expensive in local stores, but can be had for much less online. Some items, such as foam pads and polishing pads, are easily cleaned for reuse.

However, after one year of use, this filter began developing problems. First, the leaks developed. Leaks where the hoses attach to the valve block assembly, where the block assembly connects to the motor head, in the valve block shut off valve and even the main seal where the motor head clamps onto the canister. All the o-rings and seals appear to be fine and clean, but they will still sporadically develop leaks.

The impeller has also had sporadic problems with chattering and changes in flow, even when the unit is properly primed and all air is evacuated.

Last night, during a routine water change, all the problems converged in a single grand failure. The impeller failed and is now chattering loudly and no longer pumping. The primer seems to have lost its ability to pump. And, the canister is leaking from all four areas mentioned above at the same time.

My question today is do I spend the $50-$60 dollars for a new impeller, o-rings and valve block, or simply start over.

Buy Marineland C-220 Multi-Stage 55 Gal Canister Filter Now

I purchased this filter around 6 years ago (I can't remember exactly when). The main reason was, the filter I had before that was the Magnum H.O.T. back-of-the-tank power filter. That one was good, but with the limited space behind the tank (just try and move the tank with gravel, water, etc), it scratched the wall. The first one died a little over a year later, when the impeller broke. Like others have said, since replacement parts have to be sent, I just bought a new one. That one is still in use today (around 5 years). Over the last 5 years, I found one issue everyone should be prepared for: the hoses at the pump have a tendency to separate from the nozzles. The best way to prevent it is to inspect the hoses. When it starts to pull away from the nozzle, chop about 0.5" off and reinstall. Cleaning is usual dirty work, each filter media has suggested replacement timeframes. A newest issue I am dealing with is the gasket/o-rings.

So, because most stores don't stock replacement parts, you might want to buy (1) replacement impeller and (2) replacement O-Rings/Gaskets. Another idea is to buy replacement filter media. Those may add $30 to your bill, but you're prepared!

So, I HIGHLY recommend it, as long as you buy replacement parts ahead of time. It has kept my tank clean and healthy for the last 6 years!

Read Best Reviews of Marineland C-220 Multi-Stage 55 Gal Canister Filter Here

Pro's:

-Quiet

-Self priming (after the hose is initially filled)

-Good flow rate

-No leaks, no mess when removing hose block

Con's:

-Flimsy (I'm returning it before it breaks)

-Prime pump is very stiff doesn't work well (didn't need to use it though)

-To complicated/to many seals--every basket has a seal that needs to be in place

I've had the fluval 304 and the Eheim Ecco. After fixing the Eheim for the 3rd time I decided to give up on that piece of junk and get something more durable. I looked at the new fluval and didn't like the design so I bought this filter and used it for a week but will be returning it due to the cons discussed above. I looked at the Rena and this seems like the best design (more durable, simpler design, fewer parts) so I'll try that one next. It also has better reviews though I am concerned with the leakage comments.

From what I know I would rank filters in the following order

1. Rena

2. Marineland

3. Fluval

4. Eheim

110V 300W 300-Watt Submersible Aquarium Fish Tank Water Heater with Built-In Thermostat

110V 300W 300-Watt Submersible Aquarium Fish Tank Water Heater with Built-In ThermostatPlease listen to these reviews, I know I should of did before purchased this cheap crap. My fish almost died using this heater. Where do I start? When I first put the heater in my tank it had my water temp bouncing from 7580. I prever my temp 78-80. It doesn't have a temp reading on the knob so you wouldn't know what your setting the temp at. I just turned the temp all the way up after I've had to guess which way it was, and it only kept my tank at the highest 80. Like I said it had temp swings in my tank. Gladly my fish didn't get stressed over that. So it been about a month now and yesterday when I walked in the room to turn my fish tank lights on. The temp said 72 degrees on my tank thermostat. I had a fit and was worried about my fish. I drove to the nearest lfs and bought a heater.Thats what I get trying to be cheap, like they say you get what you pay for. Don't be cheap, spend a extra15 -20 dollars and buy a good heater. The heater I bought from my lfs is doing the job, but I just ordered a fluval 200 watt for my 40 gallon. I heard a lot of good reviews about it.

This heater works fine. I haven't had any problems. I would buy another one if I needed it. So far so good.

Rio Plus 1700 Aqua Pump - 642 GPH

Rio Plus 1700 Aqua Pump - 642 GPHI use one of these pumps to power my Cichlid community tanks under gravel Jet system. (If curious about UGJ's look them up on Cichlid-forum)

It provides good water movement and excellent filtration thanks to the attached sponge filter. It is no louder than an air pump really and has no real drawbacks. as with all impeller driven pumps clean your impeller often and it will treat you good.

The water flow valve is also good if you, like me, like to lower the water flow in your tank at night to help the fish rest.

great little pump. very quiet, very powerful. plumbing allows for no restrictions on how much this little pump can push. it has to be cycling the water in my tank atleast 7 to8 times an hour.

i needed to replace the pump in my tank (after years) and the old one was a Rio, so i naturally started looking for the modern version. My research online scared me away from Rio because i was finding bad reviews on normally informative Reef Blogs so i decided to go to my Local Fish Store (LFS) who have yet to lead me wrong and ask some questions. Turns out they actually sell the Rio Plus and informed me that it's the industry standard at my size tank (50gal) and that i can find nicer pumps, but not without spending WAY more money for considerably minute results. I haven't used the pump yet, and will try to update the review, i just thought I'd let people know that this product was recommended to me by professionals that i trust.

Hydor 100W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo

Hydor 100W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original TheoThe unit consistently delivers the same temperature, which is good, but that temperature is always about five degrees higher that where I set it. So if I want my tank at 77 I need to set this to 72. These products are all about accuracy and consistency, and this unit has not been so great. I'm too lazy to make a warranty claim, but I figured other customers should know my experience.

I got this heater with a fish tank that we purchased. It was keeping our 65 gal tank about 80, but when I saw where the dial was set, I moved it to 82, and it made my tank go to 90 degrees! I was shocked when I saw the temp. I had to do some fancy footwork to get the tank down to where it should be. I will be buying a new heater. Accuracy is important. I would not recommend this heater.

Bought two of these for my 20 long freshwater tank (I put one on each side.) They practically go on and off at the same time that's how well calibrated they are. In my setup, they have about a 2-degree range from where I calibrated them meaning, I set them both to their highest settings initially and after an hour I plugged them in, and then turned them both down until they turned off at the temperature I wanted (79 degrees.) The tank fluctuates between 78+ and 80+ degrees, which is very acceptable to me.

The hydor THEO line of heaters is great. they're not HUUUUUUGE and they get the job done.

they consistently maintain the temperature of the water.

i have comparable heaters but they're as long as my elbow to the tips of my fingers. the theo is nice and small and you can fit it in just about any aquarium.

it also does not pop or make other noises like aquion heaters.

Zoo Med Coral Flora Sun Plant Growth Bulb T8 32 Watts, 48-Inch

Zoo Med Coral Flora Sun Plant Growth Bulb T8 32 Watts, 48-InchMy plants grow full and green when using these bulbs. Used with all my veggies I started indoors this year (peppers, tomatos, eggplants and zucchini). Good value for the money.

Just like sunlight but doesn't burn the seedlings! Plant seeds, feed nutrients when true leaves appear, and you'll have strong transplants to put outside! Worth every penny!

Great lighting ! Durable and good level of light. Using it in a grow tent takes some rearranging and planning. It does work with the timer just fine.

This bulb has that purplish-pink glow; like the ones you see above the fish tanks in your local pet store. Its red and blue phosphors and 5000*k color temperature rating really enhance the colors of freshwater tropical fish and live aquatic plants.

But it's relatively expensive compared to other 48" t-8 fluorescent bulbs. (You can buy a package of two GE's or Philips t-8's at one of the 'big box' home improvement stores for around eight bucks.) The GE's look off-white in comparison to the Flora Sun (even though they're both rated 5000* Kelvin), but the combined effect of using one of each bulb is like looking at high noon on a warm sunny day in my fish tank.

My live plants have begun to put on much new growth since I upped the amount of light in the tank.

Instant Ocean-Aquarium Systems AIOSG31 Seagarden Caulerpa Verticellata Aquarium Decorative Plant, M

Instant Ocean-Aquarium Systems AIOSG31 Seagarden Caulerpa Verticellata Aquarium Decorative Plant, MediumThis is one of the prettiest plants I have for my fish tank and I have been washing it in oxyclean and reusing it for over 5 years. The only thing at all wrong with it is the little leave "pods" can come off their plastic "branches" but they snap back on. I love this plant and have been looking for it to replace the one I have since over time mine has lost a few of the leaves (down the drain when cleaning, etc.) But it does really lend a nice look to the tank and its great for the fish to hide in as it stays near the floor of the tank. We have used it in 50 gallon tanks and currently a 10 gallon tank, and I love it. One of my favorites.

Product title does not match description. Who knows what you will get. I wouldn't take the risk of ordering this one.
