When you first plug this bulb in and turn on the fixture, it will make the colors in your tank "pop," from fish to corals. Sadly, that doesn't last long, and within a couple of months it's not much better than any standard fluorescent bulb. (I really noticed the difference when I replaced one of the two bulbs on my fixture, and saw the radical difference in light intensity and hue between the new and old.)

I think for my next fixture, I'll be looking at LEDs...

Tubes give off sufficient light and duration. Only slightly cheaper than purchasing at aquarium store. In any case, these tubes are way over priced and I'd looks to see if there is not a better and cheaper technology!

Hydor 200W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo

This heater works great I have it set just a little bit higher than it's lowest setting and it is working great. I have it in about 50 gallons of water and it handles that with no problem...

This heater has exceeded my expectations. Although, I expected this heater to be a little be longer being that its a 200 watt compared other other brands it was very strong and kept my 80 gallon tank heater and it was percise.

On the box it says that the 200 watt heater is for tanks up to 56 gallons. I find that it is good enough for a 80 gallon.

I bought this on 1/19/2010 and then set the temperature to 77. It kept the water temperature to 82-83. It worked for the winter. When summer came, I unplugged the heater (still keeping the unit in the sump). Then with fall setting and as temperature started to fall, I restarted it. Overnight, the tank temperature shot to 92F and I saw all fishes gasping. Needless to say, lost my flame angel, mandarin, Clowns and Fire fish. That was one big disaster.

I called Hydor up and the gentleman said to send the heater to them as they wanted to check for abuse. He was very polite and seemed logical. He also mentioned to send in the least expensive way so I put it in an envelop and sent it. Four weeks passed and I did not hear back so called them. They did not receive it and unless I could show proof, would not send me a replacement. I guess in todays world, that is how it is...

If you buy this product, make sure you have temperature alerts to warn about overheating and if you have issues with the product and want to send it back, make sure you keep proof of delivery.

I ordered this for my turtle tank, after deciding that my local pet store was way to expensive. I have a 50 gallon tank that is over half full I plugged this in and within a few hours it was up to temperature and has stayed there. I was looking at heaters specific for turtles being concerned he may shock himself, because turtles like to climb on everything in their tank. This heater is shock resistant so its perfectly safe. My turtle lays on this and is fine. Also it is completely submersible and can lay flat or upright. It is just awesome and in the pet store they want over $50 for one like this.

My heater, when turned all the way down, kicks on around 79-80 degrees. It needs to go lower obviously. I plan to put it on a separate controller since the reliability is so weak. I'd advise you do the same if you purchase this.

Penn Plax Aqua Life LED Light

Real pleased with this small aquarium led light. Purchased for a 2.7 rimless gallon glass aquarium for my betta. The aquarium didn't come with a light and after searching found this light fit my needs. The only thing with this light is that it does not have an on and off switch, but I have several tanks and use digital timers for all my lights. The clip on is very strudy and strong and the led lights are bright. I believe there are 9 led lights total. For the reasonable price it is worth the purchase if you already have timers, if not you will need to plug and unplug to turn the light on and off. Again a nice little led light for very small aquariums.

I bought this product from Amazon.com few weeks ago and the result came out to be the "most" flexable LED Clip-On for my aquarium tank. I will start with the downs when you put them in alot float on the surface but you can easily scoop them out and also the container is very small and can bareley hold what is in it so set in a bowl when opening. The good things are that they are like sand but bigger and they spread out alot at the bottom of the tank even though it doesnt look like enough. i would recommend this product to betta owners.

I was excited to get this product and give my fish a nice place to rest. However, within days the stems are coming out of the base and the leaves are sliding all along the stems. I've purchased some aquarium silicone to fix the problem but for the price, I expected MUCH better quality.

Coralife Aqua Gloves (One Pair Shoulder Length Protective Gloves)

These gloves are great at first, but after a while will leak at the seam. This has happened with both gloves. Which begs the question: Why is there a seam at all? Why not just make one glove of the orange material or the purple material? The existence of the seam is unnecessary and presents the opportunity for leaks to occur.

These are definitely not one size fits all. I am a petite woman and the fingers are very big. A waste of money for me.

Aquatic Life 72-Watt Light Aquarium Light, 48-Inch, White/Blue/Purple

First off, I should note that the unit I received from Amazon was broken. Both the internal and external packing looked fine, but when unboxed the light, three of the LED "sockets" on one of the ends were broken off the entire plastic housing for the LED was cracked off the base plate. The LEDs in question still worked, they were just pointed askew.

Secondly, I picked up this unit in hopes that I might have found a replacement for my Finnex Ray2 Aquarium Day/Actinic LED Light, 48-Inch which had a bad habit of shocking me. Unfortunately, this unit produced far less light than the Finnex. If you'll notice, this unit only has 72 LEDs and as far as I could tell, they weren't the high-output LEDs either (the Finnex has around 380 HO LEDs). The color blend it produced was nice, but simply wasn't strong enough. On the plus side, where the Finnex's light is pretty concentrated, the lens domes on the Aquatic Life unit did allow for full coverage of my 12" wide tank (ie: light hit everywhere). Also, while I'm not sure what exactly caused the LEDs to break on my unit, the aluminum housing felt like a tank. The glass shield did feel a bit flimsy like glass you'd fine in a picture frame. It was also a bit loose fitting and rattled when moving the unit around.

All-in-all, I'd call the unit "ok" it'd probably do well enough in a fish-only tank with additional spot lighting. However, I don't believe it puts out enough light to sustain coral growth.

Finnex PX-360 2-Piece Canister Carbon Cartridge Filter

These are crap they dont have the ring the others that come with the product do and the weave is so tight after just a day it's so clogged no water will flow through these cartridge filters. I'm Pretty sure we will have to buy another filter unit thanks to these s***ty filters. they have been nothing but a problem sice we got them.Do not waste your time or money buying these pieces of junk.

I had read the other reviews and purchased it assuming the change in design would not affect the performance of the filter element. At first I was happy and believed it was just as good as the original with the pressed ring built in. It's not, I now understand the purpose of that seemingly useless ring. The ring keeps the filter element material down off the suction hole in order to allow the entire filter element surface to filter. After installing this element my filter runs fine for a week or two and then degrades in performance until barely a dribble is coming out the spray head. Upon opening the filter the element is almost all white, except for one clogged circle where the pressed ring should be. I haven't found any of the original design so there is no option other than this design, but I solved the problem. I took a piece of pcv pipe a bit larger than the suction hole and drilled holes all the way around it as close together as I could in a ring pattern.Then I cut that ring off and inserted it as a spacer between the element and filter housing. It's maybe an 1/8th inch tall(maybe a little taller) so the holes are small but they opened up most the side of the ring still. It works great now, and the tank stays as clear as it used to.

NoClean Aquarium Self-Cleaning Betta Fish Desktop Aquarium

I've been looking at this product for a while and it has some mixed reviews but I decided to try it. I am pleasantly surprised by how easy it is and how well it works. It takes very little time to flush the aquarium with water and it cleans the bottom nicely. The best part is my Betta fish doesn't seem bothered. Cleaning the tank used to traumatize him no matter how carefully it was done. I receive a lot of compliments on it and it is larger than the popular Betta Bowls available at the pet store. Overall, I'd say it's a win-win and would recommend it to anyone considering the purchase.

So I've owned my NoClean Betta Aquarium for about 3 months now and I absolutely love it! So much so, that I just bought a second one for a birthday gift for my 3 year old niece. She saw the one I had at my house and couldn't stop talking about it, so I got her one of her own and she hasn't stopped thanking me yet :)

The experience I've had with this tank has been great. First of all, it is an awesome conversation piece. When I first got it, I set it up in my office and every single person that came by commented on how cool it looked. When they learned what the spout was for, they were even more impressed. It's a very unique item that I'm sure will take off very soon. A few of my coworkers have even purchased aquariums of their own!

When I left for vacation, I took the tank to a friend's house so she could feed my fish. Again, everyone that saw it was very impressed with the design, sturdiness and the sheer simplicity of use.

The aquarium has since made its permanent residence in my apartment, and let me tell you, it looks awesome sitting on any shelf or end-table. The color-changing LED light that I got with it makes the whole tank light up and gives it a really cool aura that's especially attractive in the dark.

I've seen some complaints from another reviewer saying that this tank was a waste of money. That couldn't be any further from the truth! If you go to a pet store, a regular betta tank that's half the size will cost you around $15-$25. Then you have to buy a net to remove the fish while cleaning the tank ($5). Then you need a vacuum to siphon the dirt and poop out of the bottom of the tank ($10). This tank also came with attractive rocks/gems that you'd have to buy separately at the store. On top of all that, you seriously can't put a price on the ease and convenience of cleaning this tank and the quality of life that your fish will enjoy as a result. When I owned a conventional fish tank, the fish were lucky if I got around to cleaning it once a month, and I dreaded it every time. With this aquarium, all I have to do is pour in some treated water and watch the tank clean itself! I have no problem doing this several times a week and my tank and water stay perfectly clean at all times! On top of that, my fish seems more active and healthy as a result. I've even used the refuse water as a fertilizer for my house plants! Talk about letting nothing go to waste!

In my opinion, this tank is worth every single penny! It looks great in almost any indoor setting as a functional decoration and comfy home for your pet betta. I have purchased two of these now and am extremely happy with both of them and have highly recommended this product to others. If you want a great, low-maintenance, relatively inexpensive gift for a child, senior, college student, coworker or basically ANYONE including yourself, get the NoClean Aquarium!

I bought one directly from NoClean as I wanted to see the design .

It arrived in a timely manner well packed but unassembled with Chinese like instructions to put the thing together . If you wear a size large glove like me you will not be able to get your hand in the jar to set it up but will need to use tongs and bonsai like procedures to set it up.

I had a problem with the first try at setup with the water level being above the black seal on the waste water spout that leaked and e-mailed NoClean and received no reply . Disassembled and tonged it back together (remember can't get my hand in it ) and found the thin plastic waste collector was not pushed down far enough .

Now my review for how it works.

It's just way to small for a Betta (yes they can live in it) but it's like keeping a canary bird in a show cage all it's life.

No way to heat it. The self clean system is lame as I'm keeping a baby Betta in it even with 200% water changes there is still waste in the waste collector also waste gets under the collector as this is just a thin piece of plastic that is not sealed so how do you get that out ?

It's a good idea but now it's just a 60 dollar plus jar that can self drain.

I had a terrible time even getting the tank. Back ordered and they kept telling me there were issues. It took TWO months to get it shipped to me after paying for it. I have had it now for a little over two months and I don't know where the positive reviews are coming from but I think they need glasses. If you put rocks in the bottom they collect debris and start to grow things. I have cleaned the tank once a week and tomorrow I will have to dismantle the entire tank to scrub the rocks and the plant material. After paying for this (should have done this first) I started reading about my poor fish and discovered that you have to have some sort of heater that keeps the water at a decent life sustaining temp. The easy to find 10w is too large and started to boil my poor fish. The 5w is almost perfect, but now I have spent well over $100. just on the tank and the heaters. Not to mention that it takes up space the betta can't spare! I also agree with everyone that says this is just a cruel way to keep a betta. Poor thing needs more room. Now I have to tell my husband....this great idea....not so great. Now we have to go buy ANOTHER larger tank for my $5.00 fish. Avoid!!! They need a filtration system and room to swim. They may live in shallow ponds, but they have acres to swim in there! If it sounds too good to be true it usually is!

I have three fish tanks...hey...I once had 27...when you buy an air pump you sometimes get a t connector, especially if it is a two outlet. I thought I had one in my trail mix bag of fish tank stuff, but it was cracked. I wanted to join two older pumps to run one air stone and thereby get a few more years out of them and this was a good deal. I now have a supply of airline connectors to add extra line or split/join lines. They fit my regular tubing just fine, if you have silicone tubing you might end up using a cable tie to snug the fit. Airline tubing tends to get hard and stiff where it connects to the pump over time and inline connectors are very handy for adding a new section of fresh tubing without going all the way to the air stone or other air powered accessory. Fast delivery and a good price. I would have had to go to the next city over to get them otherwise.

I purchased these plastic air tube connectors for use with CO2 systems on two of my planted aquariums.

The plastic air tube inserts have enabled me to create a quick release system which is easy to use, and this allows the PH levels in my planted aquariums to maintain their stability.

They allow me to remove a pressurized CO2 tank or DIY CO2 generator and replace them with a newly charged DIY CO2 generator before the PH can rise. I use a DIY CO2 system on one aquarium, and a pressurized CO2 system on the other.

However, when the pressurized CO2 tank runs out, I replace it with a DIY CO2 generator until I have the time to get the pressurized tank refilled.

Cladophora aegargropila "Marimo Ball" Live Algae Ball

The algae ball I received was even bigger and healthier than I had hoped for! It makes a great addition to my tank, and I look forward to ordering more live plants from this seller again.

The Marimo Ball came during cold weather, but it was shipped thoughtfully and well with a little heat pack, so it was in great shape when I got it.

I love this thing. It's a lovely shade of green, and it's nice to look at in my tank.

I ordered the medium (the only size available) but it was definitely much bigger than I was expecting. Medium is a relative term so I had no idea what I was going to get. But my Marimo Ball must be maybe even 2" in diameter. As I said it's very healthy, green on all sides.

I've had it for a month, I think, and it's just peacefully doing its thing.

I did have a problem when I got it. My mollies thought it was a snack bar. They went to town on it. I didn't want to take it out of my tank, so I got a clear, 3 or 4 inch tall, plain 6 oz drinking glass (sort of like a highball glass only a bit rounder) and put that in the tank then set the Marimo Ball in the glass. So I can see it but the fish don't go in the glass too often so it's not getting eaten.

The problem with my little trick is that food gets in there, and the Marimo Ball doesn't roll around on its own. But it didn't roll around in the tank anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. I have a special long handled wooden spoon that I use to plant plants and arrange things. So I just sort of stir over the Marimo Ball with the spoon and create a little vortex to clean out the food from underneath, and turn the ball to a different side to get some light.

It's definitely worth the money for what you get. It's lovely and peaceful and a beautiful green. And it's really easy to take care of. Highly recommended. :)

The marimo ball is a little larger than 2 inches (I bought the medium sized one), it arrived dark green as pictured, and after a few weeks of being in my betta tank, it's still as green as ever! It came in a sealed plastic bag with heat packs around it.

I bought this because I'm a biology geek.... but for people who are buying it for a tank:

I originally kept the ball in a small bowl to 'cleanse' it, i suppose, before I introduced it into my betta tank. It did just fine in a few days of unfiltered 65 degree water (room temperature). It's been in my tank with filtered, 80 degree water for a few weeks now, and it's doing just fine.

I was worried a bit about it introducing new algae into my tank or spreading algae like mad. I have no filter system, just a 1.5 gallon tank, and I replace the water every week. I've had absolutely no problem with algae infestations (contrary to what pet stores might tell you). My fish actually loves the ball, he wedges himself next to it to rest a lot.

It definitely makes an awesome conversation piece!

I saw this and thought, "Why, Chester the Ginormous Cat would love this."

And he did.

The feathers drove him bonkers, and he pounced on this catnip toy with eagerness and with mayhem in his eys.

Then Chester the Ginormous Cat snapped this toy in two in less than five minutes. This toy is a great idea, and it might work if you taunt your cat with it, but it wasn't so great for me to leave it for my cat to play with alone. I had to throw it away because I was afraid Chester would swallow the straw.

A poor execution of a great idea and at this price, it's too expensive for a temporary cat toy. I give it high marks for the giant predator eyes that it solicited from Chester but low marks for durability.

I ordered this fishnet for use in a 55 gallon freshwater tank. I have other net's (one that came with the tank, one purchased separately) and this net is a much nicer product overall for a number of reasons:

* The net is made of very fine netting material which is the main reason I purchased it. This net was bought to be able to capture some of the smaller catfish in the tank if needed.

* The fine netting prevents the whiskers and fins from catching which could injure or kill the fish.

* The handle is very long at 2 feet and easily reaches in the tank without having to get my hands wet or disturbing the other fish.

* The handle is made of metal (not sure if aluminum, but looks like stainless steel) and is very durable, yet lightweight.

* The net is large enough to catch some of the larger cichlids and plecostomus

I have only used the net a few times (less than a dozen), but it exceeded my expectations for use, balance, weight and overall construction. Again, I purchased this net to use with the catfish, but it works equally well catching all other fish as well. I strongly recommend you consider this net over the larger netting of others as well as due to it's construction. My salt water aquarium is 20 inches deep so this net comes in handy. Not only for fish but for moving snails away when they get in the way of my coral. Good purchase for the price.

Great size, hard to find any that are long enough for a tank that is 24 inches deep. Very soft/smooth net.

This is a really good quality net. Sturdy thick metal handle that's long which is great for high tanks. The next is very soft and fine mesh. Best net I've owned.

The glass is cut poorly, with chips all along the edge. The plastic hinge doesn't last long (in my book, at least). My last one only lasted a year and a half before it split apart.

Its a great way to cover your aquarium and works just as its supposed to. In my opinion, glass canopies are much better because of the ability of putting two light strips or bigger light strips on the tank. Just be careful because i have broken one of these before. The plastic guard is also great to get more of your tank covered. All in all, it does a great job.

One of my neon tetra jumped out of the tank a few days before the cover arrived. Take no effort to place it on my 20L aquarium. The extended plastic can be used if you want to cover the tank completely. Plastic can be trimmed to fit the filter and wires. Made a mistake and glue the plastic handle that the lettering is reversed.

Very good. Getting the back strip attached was a little tricky. However, the flexible back plastic is 10 times better than the hard plastic black hoods that come as standard.

I spent hours upon hours looking for a lid for my 20 gallon long fish tank that didn't have any spaces open for my blue lobster to escape. I had even ordered a marineland lid that didn't even come close to what I needed. This lid is absolutely perfect, it covers the whole tank. It looks ten times nicer than the reptile lid that I attempted to use before this and it was about the same price (which to me, wasn't that expensive). Great price, great product, great fit. I would recommend this item if you are looking for a full covered lid for a 20 gallon long tank.
