Marineland NW1000 Natural Wave Pump Timer
Buy Marineland NW1000 Natural Wave Pump Timer Now
little to no instruction, difficult to mount. Its a power strip with 3 live and 3 "wave maker" type timers. If you use it with cheap powerheads I guess you will be fine. I used it with 2 maxi jets and one hydor 550. The maxi's stood up to the hard start/stop but the koralia must need a more conditioned current. I now have the hydor pump controller with 2 hydor 750's and 1 550. I only used this for a month.Read Best Reviews of Marineland NW1000 Natural Wave Pump Timer Here
This wavemaker does just as it says, switches upto 3 powerheads on/off from 20 seconds to 3 minutes. It does have a problem with hard starts, makes the powerhead rattle slightly but nothing to bad. I recommend this for anyone who doesn't want to spend a ton of money for a wavemaker.A must have for your tank!! Save $$$ with the wave cycle unit!!Sunday, November 23, 2014

Penn-Plax® Blue Knight & Pink Princess Hamster & Gerbil Habitats
This was a fantastic purchase. I should have bought this from the beginning. The wheel does NOT squeak like the one we had. Bedding cannot be tossed out. There is a cute "cellar" for them to snuggle under to help protect them from drafts. The wheel can be easily blocked off with the pets inside for easy cleaning without having to catch your critters. This is another perk if you have tiny kids. You can block off the external wheel while you are not around to supervise your kids....Handy if you have a kid that might have the urge to give them a spin.
Don't try and save a few dollars on a cheaper wire version. They are much harder to clean, draftier, and litter will be everywhere within two feet of the cage. Get it right the first time. I would highly recommend this cage!!! Highly!!!!The cage I had before was a nightmare. I then bought the most expensive one at the store thinking that i'd be happy with it. And of course after putting the thing together for 40 minutes, the last piece wouldnt work/fit and so I thought I was stuck with the cage I was using at the time. I saw this one online and had not seen it in the store. Read good reviews on it and it was very reasonable price. I love it...my dwarf hamster loves it. and I can actually see her running around. Her "waste" doesnt come flying out the sides as my other wheel on other cage did. The water bottle is perfect and doesnt leak and I'm so glad I didnt give up my search.

We have a cat that tried to get the mouse. When we were outside, he crashed the entire princess habitat to the floor from a low table. It broke open, but there is a special floor that created a basement like living areathat save Mousie's life!(Mousie hid inside, frozen in fear.) Mousie now lives in a 10 gallon glass tank with a screen lid. If you don't have a catthis would be a 5 star item. It's cute, colorful, and worth the money, IF you don't have other pets to bump it around.

I just recently bought this cage for my teddy bear hamster and so far he loves it .-Pros
Easy to clean
Nice design
Easy to Assemble
The tower is great to pet your hamster
-Cons
LOUD WHEEL
The water dispenser leaks when the cage is nudge
little bit small for a syrian hamster so be sure to add accessories
What you can do to make the wheel silent!!!
Put tape (on wherever it is making sound)
put baby oil or vegetable oil on where the two parts of the wheel connects.
Would recommend this for syrians and medium size dwarf hamster such as winter white and russian.

Marineland NJ400 Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pump, 7-Watt, 106 GPH
I have 3 vivariums (half land/half water) tanks for various newts and salamanders. I use the Tetrafauna Viquarium for each of them because gravel is a great biological filter as long as you change water consistently, but I found that the little pumps that came with the viquarium unit sometimes stopped working temporarily because they take in any debris that finds its way into the base of the artificial waterfall. Two of them have always started up again, but in one case the pump just burned out.
When I looked at the Tetrafauna site for replacement pumps, it was clear that they do not sell them, which is a strange oversight. Also, Tetrafauna did not readily answer their phone after I stayed on hold for a little too long, but I noticed that they did provide some information on the website, plugging this small Marineland pump as a good replacement. I want to confirm that it is true that this product fits into the artificial waterfall portion and does the job (so far) as well as the original pump that came with the viquarium kit. This unit is excellent, been running it in my Aquarium connected to my UV and it does not heat, sound or stops.
If everything was made this way it would be a sweet world

This pump works well, but I did have a slight issue. The adjustment nozzle on the back end keeps falling out. After you've placed this pump inside a tank, trying to fish the nozzle from the bottom and get it reinserted is almost impossible. Aquatic Life 72-Watt Light Aquarium Light, 48-Inch, White/Blue/Purple
Secondly, I picked up this unit in hopes that I might have found a replacement for my Finnex Ray2 Aquarium Day/Actinic LED Light, 48-Inch which had a bad habit of shocking me. Unfortunately, this unit produced far less light than the Finnex. If you'll notice, this unit only has 72 LEDs and as far as I could tell, they weren't the high-output LEDs either (the Finnex has around 380 HO LEDs). The color blend it produced was nice, but simply wasn't strong enough. On the plus side, where the Finnex's light is pretty concentrated, the lens domes on the Aquatic Life unit did allow for full coverage of my 12" wide tank (ie: light hit everywhere). Also, while I'm not sure what exactly caused the LEDs to break on my unit, the aluminum housing felt like a tank. The glass shield did feel a bit flimsy like glass you'd fine in a picture frame. It was also a bit loose fitting and rattled when moving the unit around.
All-in-all, I'd call the unit "ok" it'd probably do well enough in a fish-only tank with additional spot lighting. However, I don't believe it puts out enough light to sustain coral growth.

Plush Sleep-ezz Pet Bed
Buy Plush Sleep-ezz Pet Bed Now
I bought this bed (in pink) for my 8 week-old Golden Retriever puppy. (I bought another one of these beds because my male Chihuahua has had one in a smaller size, in the blue color, for about two years and he still loves it.) Now my Golden Retriever sleeps on hers every night in her crate, and it has stood up to multiple washings. It's held up really well and still looks fairly new. It might have lost some of its initial fluffiness, as was expected, but because of the way the bed is sewn the filling doesn't pile up on one side of the pillow. It makes a great crate pad because the polyfill stays evenly spread throughout. The outer fabric is so soft, even after 6 weeks of owning it. The color is still nice and bright (see photos). I won't buy any other crate pads! Highly recommended!I bought the 42x28 sage pad. It is not thick and bulky, it is evenly padded and super soft. Very easy to throw into the washer machine and all 3 of my pointers love the bed. I will be buying more of this bed.My girls love it, it's very soft & cozy in their crates. It's the perfect color & size for my soft side crate & folds right up in it so it's always right with the crate when we travel. It washes up nicely in my washer & drys great too. The padding doesn't bunch up inside it even when my girls bunch the pad up in their crates, I simply lay it back out flat.Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Impeller Assembly for Eclipse 3 Hood
I cannot say it is the core unit that is flawed here. If you look close you can see on the ends there are removable black rubber caps that act as friction and noise reducers. Yeah that is great, but every time I break my system down the rubber caps seem to be worn down or get damaged in the process. If these caps are not just right the pump is noisy. Ugh, i like the look of my Eclipse 3 Hood and the way it runs don't get me wrong.
I guess that is why impellers are cheap though. I will keep buying them regaurdless of this annoying minor flaw cause i like the over all product this is a part of.
I just wish the rubber ends were sold by themselves or that the unit came with a few sets of these.Came in 3 days, what a relief! Fish were without a filter & air (I have live-plants though). Exo Terra Turtle Bank - Large
Interesting product
Not strong enough for larger turtles
I really want to like this product, but it didn't really cut it for me. I wish there was a half, this really should be 2 1/2 stars.
I have a 9" red eared slider. I've recently upgraded to an aqueon 40 gallon breeder style tank. It's glass and the sides are maybe 0.5cm wide. I was really excited when I bought this product because I've struggled with other turtle basking solutions. I've never been a fan of the products that use suction cups. I currently use a stone bridge Zilla Reptile Basking Platform with Ramp, Large. It's good and effective, but the legs of the bridge take a lot of tank re-estate and the height of the bridge is fixed, limiting the water level.
I purchased the large size turtle bank. I tried to do a lot of research online to see if this really worked for people, my primary concern was that the magnets weren't strong enough. I don't doubt other people's reviews, but this product just didn't work out for me. These magnets are indeed strong. They are strong enough to hold the turtle bank in place within the tankbut the bank wasn't securely locked in place. If you leave the bank alone, it looks secure, but if you push down on it with your hand, it dips and sags. The bank is sort of a stretched triangle shape and one contact point is in the middle of the short side, and about 1/3 of the way on the long side. The idea behind the design is that the far end of the long side will sag somewhat in the water, giving the turtle some area to pull itself out of the water.
When my slider saw the bank, it was instantly interested. It was a really natural platform. The problem I found, however, was that once the turtle was on the platform, the bank wobbled. In particular, the short end, opposite of where the turtle was attempting to get onto the platform pulled away from the water. After flopping around for a few seconds, the bank stabilized, but 1/2 of the bank sagged into the water. It wasn't ideal, but I figured that I would try it out. Within the next hour, my turtle must have kicked around a lot because the magnet on the short side was lost and I found the magnet on the floor. I re-secured it, but found that they were both disconnected the next morning.
I asked somebody at a pet store about the product, and they swore by it. I believe the turtles that used it were smaller however, maybe 6" and it was a pond with thinner plastic walls.
Description-
The bank itself is made out of a touch plastic. As the other reviews indicate, I doubt that your turtle will be able to chew on it. The top is textured, making it easier for a turtle to grip it to climb on top. The bottom and sides are smooth, making them easier to clean.
Pros:
* "Natural Look"
* Rugged construction
* Novel design
Cons:
* Doesn't support larger turtles
* The magnets might be strong enough, but there should be more of them and they should be distributed evenly throughout the bank.
* Single hole (for drainage?) take on water and is hard to drain if it is filled up.We have red-eared sliders about 6 inches long.
We put the turtle bank in a 50 gallon tank and, at first, we loved it. We thought we'd FINALLY found a decent platform (after wasting money on suction cup docks, floating docks that sunk, and several platforms that only allowed for 3-4 inches of water).
For a few hours, our little guy was dry, relaxed, warm, and very comfortable. He was on it less than 2 minutes after we put it in for him; he really likes it!
When he was done resting, that RES curiosity we all know and love kicked in, and he decided to try standing up on it to see if he could reach the top of the tank. Always looking for escape routes, these guys! As soon as he stood on his back legs and the distribution of his weight went from spread out to concentrated, the magnets dropped off and the bank shot out from under him and floated across the tank. As long as he and his brother are perfectly still when they're on it, it works. But turtles aren't statues! They eventually move, and the magnets fall off almost every time they do. We can hear the magnets hit the floor from 2 rooms away.
Half of the platform submerges with their weight, so only the corner is completely dry yet, when they concentrate their weight in that one corner, the magnets fly off and they get tossed off the dock.
We've built a little frame out of PVC pipe as a brace under the bank, and that has helped as a temporary fix, but we're searching for a decent basking platform....AGAIN.
Buy Exo Terra Turtle Bank - Large Now
I bought this product for my son who has a tiny red eared slider. He wanted to have a nice dry land for her,and this turtle bank is just perfect.Although it is quite big for her but i am sure this will be good enough for her when she grows big.The magnets are really strong and keep it in place. At first Keechu(the turtle)was a little scared of this big land and stayed away from it ,but after a few days got used to it and now she loves basking on it often. This product is worth buying and is definitely better than the turtle landing or the dock. The delivery was in time and the packing was superb.thanks to amazon.Everything was fine with the seller, got my order when they said i would no problems. The only thing that i didnt like about the product was i thought the magnets were going to be a little stronger since i have a thick glass tank it didnt really work and i have adult turtles and it only takes one of them to sink it. But i wedged it into my tank so that it works out for them.Love the idea and actual feel of the turtle bank and my animals love it. But I purchased 2 and both sank, lost flotation, within a month... Exo-Terra said they will replace them but I have to send them back to them under my dime. After paying ~$30 each to begin with, I am not willing to spend even more money to ship water-logged turtle banks back to them. What a pain.Monday, September 30, 2013
Brand New Marineland Max-Jet 1200 Item #7280
It is very powerful, doesn't make much noise, and my fish love it! (especially rubberlip plecos)
I'm currently using it to drive my homemade water polisher. Here's how to create one yourself using this powerhead:
1. Take a small container such as a plastic yogurt container (keep the lid!), rubbermaid container, etc.. and cut a hole in the top lid so that the end of the powerhead intake will fit inside snugly.
2.Fill the container with polyester batting (can be found in the fabric section of stores). A huge bag costs $3 or less and will last forever!
3. Close the lid and stick the end of the powerhead intake through.
4. Turn it on and you are good to go! It makes your water crystal clear, and it continues to create lots of turbulence. Serves as a dual purpose now! Just change out the polyester batting after it gets really dirty.

I haven't had them long and I make aquarium set ups for customers and friends I used to use Penguinor Aquaclear and they were good. Maxi-Jet is under estimated because no one talks about how awesome
they are. The prices are 40% less then almost every other powerhead, and push more water per hr at
that price so it a good trade, cant comment on how long they last only been using them now for 3
months but I nor my friends have had problems. Just member to use an extra filter on the intake or
clean the impeller every 2 months at min. and yeah awesome product not scam in quality just note
wait for Amazon to "fullfill" there stock and you get cheap or free shipping to save even more money
I rated its a 4 because I don't know the life of them yet and the power of them is rated a 295gph but
at 1ft head, I use them for returns in my sump with 5ft travel and they still run at 245gph and I still
use Ehiem pumps (expensive but the one I got has ran strong for 5yr without any cleaning because I have a
prefilter in the intake so it never gets clogged) so I say EHIEM OR MAXI-Jet are the best pumps so
if you need a good filtration system run two of these and you wont be sorry.
Also f.y.i an okay filtration system should cycle you water 5-7x the aquarium's size, 10gal 50gph
but best ratio I run and water look n smell good you want to drink if you had to is 15-20x, 10gal
at 200gph, you cant go wrong with an extremely high gph filtration system just be safe it dont
leak bc in a slipt second your water will be in the floor and your turtle will be saying WTH!!
Also word for advice use 100ml of carbon per month per 30gal of water being filter, I use Marine-
Land products best filter media money can buy(at cheap prices too)!! Sorry this was long but someone
might find it helpful, so hopefully someone does!! Happy aquarium hobby to all you aquatic persons!!

Moves a whole lot of water and should not be considered for small tanks under 55gal. as splashing may result. A good power head for larger under-gravel filters or foam block bacteriological filtering. Parts are readily available, impeller etc.. One caveat, it appears it is too easy to break off the tabs that secure the impeller assembly rendering the entire device trash.Update after 9 months of use............
The tabs securing the impeller assembly to the head have begun to spread causing the jet direction to change while in use, very frustrating. One one occasion the unit came apart in the tank. I am already looking to find a more durable replacement after just 9 months of use.

biOrb Aquarium Kit with Light Fixture
the tank was really simple to set up, if you follow the instructions there should be no issues
There are several things that you need to know about this tank.
This tank can hold either one beta, or 4-6 (really) small fish
the upkeep of this tank if done the way suggested is EXTREMELY expensive. It runs around 145$ a year.
However you can bring it down to less than 50$ if you follow these guidelines:
(I've added links to the products I mention on amazon, but if you want to save money buy them at the pet store)
a) DO NOT BUY MORE THAN ONE EXTRA FILTER AT A TIME. The filter for the biorb is pretty simple, it is a plastic canister filled with a blend of activated carbon and zeolite cristals topped with a foam ring. Instead of buying a new filter, the old one can easily be reused by washing out or replacing the foam insert and replacing the crystals with a generic blend from petco (the 10$ bottle should last at least year)PETCO Activated Carbon and Zeolite Crystals
b) replacement cartriges come with two different packages of chemicals, one is to make tap water safe for fish, and the other is to cultivate the bacteria needed to keep your tank clean. The first can be replaced by a bottle of tetra aqua safe plus (you can buy this for around $8)Tetra 8-4/9-Ounce AquaSafe Water Conditioner with BioExtract. The company that makes the biorb buys alot of their supplies from a company called API. you can buy a bottle of the bacteria booster at petco for around 10 15$ (it's called stress zymeAquarium Pharmaceuticals Stress Zyme 16oz)
c) if your bulb and the replacemment both die, the halogen bulbs are generic and can easily be purchased from third party vendors
THE GOOD
1) this tank is great for beginners
2) It looks AWESOME
3) fast setup
4) It looks AWESOME
5) easy to clean
6) the 5 step filtration system keeps water clear for several weeks
THE BAD
1) the tank does not come with enough ceramic media (the stuff at the bottom of the tank) You need to buy more. it also doesn't include any plants
2) older models of this tank came with a noisy air filter, this filter has been replaced with a much quieter one in newer models.
3) the bubbles from the air filter cause water to splash all over the top of the tank, this forms water droplets all around the tank above the water, this looks really unappealing and short of removing the air filter, I have not yet found a way to solve this issue.
4) the curved bowl acts as a magnifying glass, enlarging everything in your tank. it also creates blind spots.
5) If you leave the tank in direct sunlight the shape of the tank could act as a magnifying glass and set your desk on fire. =)
6) some people claim that fish get sucked into the filter, as there is no suction in this tank period, I believe their fish swam in. There is an optional air filter guard to prevent this from happeningHave to disagree with the other reviewer here ... I purchased a Baby biOrb recently for my new Betta, after having my first betta living in an airless bowl for a couple years. I simply got tired of cleaning a stinky bowl every week. As a result, I went shoppin for a new tank with a bubbler and filter system and found the Baby biOrb.
While I agree that the maintence costs are significant at $132/ year (if you need to change a filter every 4 weeks), the costs balance with ease of maintenance. Personally, my experience with cleaning the Baby biOrb was a snap with the optional suction hose. Took me fifteen minutes to clean the tank, drain the grimey water and add new water. Couldn't have been much easier. And, I am not sure how anyone could have a problem swapping filter cartriges unless they have motor skills issues.
I also built a noise dampening box for the air pump my only real complaint is that the "whisper quiet" pump sounds like a mini jackhammer after about five minutes.
Great product and looks awesome.
Buy biOrb Aquarium Kit with Light Fixture Now
I totally recommend this aquarium kit for anyone just starting out in the fish-keeping hobby. Vitually everything you'll need comes in the box. However, when I bought my BiOrb a year ago, there was no heater included. If you want to keep tropical fish, you will likely need to purchase BiOrb's heater kit if they haven't yet decided to include a heater in the package. You can purchase a small heater at any good pet store, but it's likely to be a bit of an eyesore in the BiOrb.I keep 3 dwarf African frogs and one dwarf puffer in the BiOrb and there is ample room. Cleaning day is about every 8 weeks and is generally only a matter of changing a few gallons of water and taking out the old filter cartridge and putting a new one in. The tank is well-aerated and you never see fish gasping for air at the top. Plus, it's a gorgeous tank.
My only complaint is that when I bought the BiOrb, I had no idea that they would soon come out with a 16-gallon version. I definitely would have gotten the larger tank, since with the smaller one, you have to severely limit the number of fish or aquatic creatures you keep in it. With the 16 gallon tank, you can have double the number of pets. Still, I'm very happy with my BiOrb.
Read Best Reviews of biOrb Aquarium Kit with Light Fixture Here
I have owned a Baby Biorb ($69.99) for 10 months now, and I am VERY UNhappy with it. Irreconciliable personality conflicts among fishmates prompted me to purchase a second acrylic tank (10 gallons at only $49.99) within 2 months of purchasing the Biorb, so I am able to report on the comparative performance of the 2 rival tanks. The Biorb is superior to the other tank in ONLY 2 ways: 1) Its silver plastic accents are more attractive than the standard black plastic accents of the 10-gallon tank; and 2) The Biorb's biological filtration system (the ceramic media foster bacterial growth and proliferation, unlike the plain gravel in my other tank) sped up the aquarium's cycling process, whereby the Biorb had fully matured in exactly HALF the time required by the other tank. Now for the BAD news: The Biorb's poorly engineered filter set-up necessitates lifting the soiled filter from the BOTTOM of the tank for replacement, at which time the disturbed filter releases appalling pollution into the tank. The replacement filter barely stands a chance of removing the residual pollution, let alone maintaining a healthy environment for the next "4 to 8 weeks." As a result, I am finding myself replacing the filter an average of every 2 to 3 weeks, which at $9.99 to $10.99 a pop becomes ridiculously expensive, and the aquarium's water is perpetually yellow and unattractive. The other tank, on the other hand, boasts a filter set-up on the SURFACE of the water. I simply lift out the soiled filter only $6.99 a pop and replace it. No harm done. While the makers of the Biorb claim that the 360-degree view it affords of the fish inside really places Biorb ahead of the competition, I find that my second all-clear hexagonal tank likewise boastsa 360-degree view. If I had it to do over again, I would NOT invest in a Biorb. The long-term expense is prohibitive, and the performance is poor.Okay, the people that are writing bad reviews for this product obviously have not followed the directions for the BiOrb tank. This is an awesome product! Yes, there is a limit to the number of fish that you can keep in this environment, but the amount of time that one would usually spend cleaning a fishtank is greatly reduced by the ease of the filter cartridges in the BiOrb tanks. If you understand the process and how the filtration system works, and you have the appropriate number of fish in the tank, and you do not overfeed the fish, you will have great success with this tank. In addition, it is such a beautiful tank. I have three of these tanks, one in each size (Baby BiOrb, BiOrb-8 gallon, and a Mega BiOrb) with two at home, and one in my office at work, and people have always complimented me on the tanks and want to know where they can get one themselves. Also, I would just like to note that I keep tropical fish in my tanks, swordtails, neon tetras and platys, and I have NEVER used the heater in either of my tanks. The fish do just fine in water that is room temperature and I live in the very seasonal northeast. I would only recommend using a BiOrb heater if the room you are keeping the BiOrb tank in is cold (unheated or if you keep your thermostat very low), otherwise, it is completely unnecessary.
