I just recentl bought this product for my 10 gallon aquarium and my fish love it!! Its a perfect hiding place and they seem to love to play in it.Read Best Reviews of Design Elements Hollow Log Aquarium Ornament Here
Lots of places for fry to hide in so they wont bet eaten. Doesn't show algae so my tank looks cleaner.I added this piece to my 55 gallon aquarium. Its large, nor is it small. I wouldn't and didn't choose it as a centerpiece but wanted it for an added hide spot. It looks really nice underwater and mixes in well with my other decor and plants.Sunday, September 14, 2014
Seachem Cupramine Copper 250ml
my fish are not sick atm so my review does not reflect the product itself. the 3 star review is only because the bottle cap was loose during shipping and i lost some product. is tightening the bottle cap too much to ask if you get free shipping? luckily the item it was shipped with was enclosed in plastic. the leak could have ruined the other item if it was something like clothes or paper.Set up a hospital tank for my fish and followed the directions on the bottle. I did have 1 fatality, but I think the Ich was too far into him for rescue. Everyone else treated was cured.

Broke the full dose up into 4 doses instead of 2 and it is working great so far. My fish seem to be tolerating it well and they are still eating and acting like normal. Testing the levels with the seachem test kit and the readings are spot on.Bottle says add 16 drops to 10.5 gallons. Website says add 20 drops to 10.5 gallons. I understand that the company can not relable the product already out there but Amazon should update the product description or add a note of some sort.Cupramine is a highly effective copper based treatment for Ich -a truly aweful disease that was about to wipe out all the goldfish and Koi in my tank. It's a large tank and I appreciated that it takes so little of this treatment. It's very economical which is important because with Ich the whole tank must be treated, not just the fish so you cannot use a small hospital tank unless you are willing to keep the fish in the hospital for many weeks (the parasites will eventually die in the display tank without treatment if there are no fish for them to infect but it takes a while to be sure). You can see the fish do not like the medicine. After the first half dose two smaller Koi died from the treatment (ironically they had been doing best against the Ich before that). I was quite worried about what would happen after the second dose was added, but there were no further fatalities even after the second dose though the fish were lethartic and stopped or slowed eating. Obviously they felt sick. But once the Ich was gone (it takes a few weeks for all parasites to enter their vulnerable life phase), I started the water changes and all the fish bounced back. Cupramine is strong medicine for a bad disease. It's not to be used lightly but effective if you need it and very reasonable in cost even for large tanks. A side benefit is it's tough on algae.Wednesday, August 27, 2014
Aqueon LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 20-Inch
I recently purchased these LED lights at a local pet store(had I known they were on amazon I would have saved a few $), They fit very nicely over my 10 gallon fish tank, my fish do like it, slight shimmering effect which is pretty cool, I really like the moon lights for night time! As the other reviewer mentioned one thing that lead me to get this light over other brands is the ability to add other light strips to it, with other color options, pretty cool; and I may do that in the future, but for now the light works great!Clean, sleek and powerful enough for my needs, plus the opportunity to add more "bulbs" should my needs change. I reccomend this product wholeheartedly.

This fits perfectly on a 10g tank. i have this on a 10g frog tank, and it supplies somewhat decent lighting. it comes with a single bulb, which has 1 switch and 1 power wire. even if you get a second or third bulb it is still using one switch. the problem with that is you cant put it on a day and night timer to have it simulate dawn/dusk automatically.really this needs another strip of bulbs from the manufacturer, but i think 3 would be too much in a 10g though

The Aqueon LED aquarium Light fixture gives off a very pleasant lighting effect and illuminates my aquarium in a very efficient manner. The light works well but the one led light strip that's included with it did not provide enough light for my tank. Granted this is for a smaller tank, I have a 150 gallon tank and bought three of these lights. I was disappointed when I was not satisfied with the light that came through. Bought the other 3 led strips and now its plenty of lighting.Friday, May 30, 2014
Eheim Professionel 3 Filter
I emailed them and immediately the next day I received a reply asking for the Serial number, the shipping address and the retail store from which I bought the filter. I replied with the information and that was the last I heard from them. I have sent them 4 more emails since then and they completely ignored them. I have been another victim of their scam.
Apparently Eheim is engaging in fraudulent acitivities, marketing their filters as "Premium" products that come with a 3 year warranty. However, they will try their best NOT to honor the warranty. Maybe I need to call them everyday and write nasty letters to get them to acknowledge my issue. I know some of their victims have received a replacement head unit this way after sending threatening emails and making repeated phone calls. However, it shouldn't have to be this difficult.
I have another Pro 2 filter that also leaked after 6 years of operation. From what I have heard, the company was bought and the quality of customer service has become horrible since then. It is now reaching the point of fraud.
I will never buy another Eheim product again. Beware!!!
Update: I called their 800 number and was told that they shipped the head unit to my old address and it went back to their warehouse. They sent another one to my new address. It was still annoying that they put my email on ignore for some stupid reason.I purchased the EHEIM Professional 3 1200 XL Model #: 2080 canister filter off eBay for my 300 gallon stock tank. Everything seems to be working ok, however I was missing some parts. I could tell this unit was a brand new unit and not a refurb / opened returned item. Everything was in it's original packaging, nice and snug and has that new plastic smell to it.
Anyways, for some reason it's missing the clips to hold the tubes. It only came with 1 clip, and clearly (by the instructions) I should have received more than that; like 6 in total. I contacted EHEIM North America and they responded to my initial e-mail advising me to e-mail them my proof of purchase. Fine, no problem. But then the next day I get one of those mailer daemon bounced e-mail error messages, indicating the e-mail didn't go through.
So I tried their online "contact us" form. They replied but did not address the missing parts. All they said was for me to send it to them via e-mail, when I clearly stated to them that their e-mail wasn't working and that the e-mails were bouncing back. Since then, I've tried to send them my proof of purchase several times and now they're simply ignoring my e-mails. I have proof of purchase, it's well within the warranty period (just a month old) and they're sweeping this issue under the rug.
I'm filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and am advising you to think twice before purchasing this filter. Don't get me wrong, it's a good filter which is why I'm giving it 3 stars....but if the manufacturers refuse to take care of their customers (which in my case they have), that diminishes the rating. If you're going to buy it, I strongly suggest you buy it from a shop locally (and not online like I did) so that if push comes to shove, you can return it with ease. Now I'm stuck with a canister filter, and have to buy parts (at an additional cost to me) to compensate for the missing parts.

I love this filter. It provides a massive area (as canister filters go) for growing nitrifying bacteria. However, it is insanely expensive and comes without media, which can add another $120 to the overall cost. Due to its size and weight, servicing can be difficult. I'd recommend using it solely as a biofilter, and adding a couple of Magnum 350's for your chemical and mechanical filtration needs. But it is unbelievably quiet and I like the spraybar that's included. My only complaint is the ridiculous instruction manual. Even with 20+ years of using canister filters, it took me two days to get the filter running properly, and that was after contacting Eheim customer support. If the intake tubes (yes, there are 2 of them) are not installed properly, and the manual doesn't mention this, the filter will suck air and eventually stop pumping. I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but you have to experience this to know what I'm talking about. Perhaps if the manual wasn't written in 17 different languages, the publisher would have had more room the include the essential details needed to get this thing running in two hours, and not two days.So far so good. I've had this filter for a month now and it works great! I just changed the filter pads out yesterday, and the media is still going strong. I use the Eheim 2080 for a 100gal turtle tank, one turtle. The filter is well made. Clearly the designers thought about how the filter will actually be used. The filter pads are located at the top of the canister and the filter comes with a tray to make it easy to take the blue pad out and wash it in the sink. I suspect that a full filter cleaning will be a bit more cumbersome since the canister is large and heavy when filled. But the little wheels at the bottom are surprisingly helpful. And it appears the parts that will need to be washed are easy to remove, unlike my previous filter. If you have a turtle(s), I would highly recommend buying this filter. The up front costs are high, but well worth it given the time you save not having to do a full filter cleaning every 3 weeks. I only wish my local pet store carried the filter pads.I've been running this on my 90 gallon aquarium for close to 2 months now. I have no ammonia problems and crystal clear water. This filter will handle an enormous bio load. I don't have an overstocked tank. In fact, I only have 3 angelfish, 2 albino bristlenose plecos, and plenty of plants in my 90g tank. The community will grow. But, judging by the amount of bio media this thing can hold, I don't intend on seeing any ammonia spikes when I add stock. I ran a fishless cycle on my tank, so the filter should be overloaded with beneficial bacteria.Tuesday, April 29, 2014
Fluval Spec V Aquarium Kit, 5-Gallon
I give this tank a 5 star rating, even considering the strong filter pump. The pump can be adjusted to a setting that is quite manageable when you adjust the swivel output nozzle to point towards the bottom and against the glass. There are quiet spots in the water, even in this 5.5 gallon aquarium, that my Half Moon Betta can hover in and look very peaceful. Plus, I put in a large piece of hollow driftwood to give my Betta a place to escape if need be. Actually, he seems to enjoy the water output (which is 1" from the top of the water line) as he often swims directly up into the stream all the way to the top of the tank. He'll do this three or four times, then pull over and rest. I imagine he's getting some fishy exercise. Reminds me of a dog hanging his head out the window of a moving car. In still water, Bettas tend to be calm swimmers, but this tank provides just enough room and water circulation to keep my Betta quite active. And he's not being pushed around, he's patrolling the tank like the Type A personality that Siamese Fighting Fish are know to be.
The construction is clear glass. I have 5 small live plants, a moss ball, smooth gravel and the driftwood. The underwater pump is the quietest I have ever had, and I've been maintaining aquariums for over 20 years. It's on my desk and I sit about 2 feet away. I hear the air conditioning, the refrigerator and conversations outdoors before I can hear this pump. Perfect for an office environment.
The filtration is biological and physical with the water running through a corse sponge, a small bag of charcoal and a bag of porous coral pellets. The pump is amazing. At full speed it could easily keep a salt water reef healthy. But by reducing the outflow and adjusting the nozzle, the surface of the water is so calm that my Betta can easily grab some air wherever he is in the tank. Remember to adjust the pump's output BEFORE you put it in the tank, because it sits on the bottom and you'll need a long stick or the handle of your net to push it down.
The LED light is pretty, but not strong enough for the plants I have, so I have the tank near a window to pick up some indirect sunlight throughout the day, and some direct sunshine for a few minutes in the early AM. Once my tank is biologically stable, I plan to add an African Dwarf frog and a couple of Rainbow Tetras. That's close to being overstocked, so I will probably have to do a 20% to 25% water change each week. We'll see how the water tests out.
To recap, this is perfect Betta tank with lots of room for his highness to roam and a little more space for some tank companions (especially when you consider the strength of the filtration system). But, from a name like Fluval, it had to be great, right?

I actually have this tank in Black, not that the color makes a difference in how it all works, which is very well indeed. The sponge filter medium is HUGE for the size of the tank, and has two good-sized cutouts to hold the bio-beads and any other medium you might want to put in the filter. I added a second bag of bio-beads as this tank was replacing a "standard" 5 gallon that had a betta and a couple oto cats in it. By using the bio-beads from the existing tank's filter I had no concerns about cycling the tank before moving my fish into it.
The filter pump is surprisingly powerful for its small size, even on the lowest setting, so much so that I had to make a spray bar return for it to reduce the force of the water coming back from the filter. My betta was getting "blown" around the tank because the current was so strong, and it made us both unhappy. With the home-made spray bar my betta was much more comfortable.
Because the center of the lid is open (so it doesn't block any of the light from the LEDs) the tank is prone to evaporation loss more than it otherwise would be. As I do weekly water changes this isn't much of an issue, and it is common with open-topped tanks anyway. But I wanted others to know that it is something to deal with if that matters to you.
The light works well and my live plants are growing nicely with it. The screw that holds the light bar in place is only plastic, and seems to have stripped the threads even with careful handing, so I will probably have to replace it with a metal screw so the light bar is more secure. I have the light on a timer, so the 2-way switch for white vs. blue LEDs is not an issue to me, but if you don't use a timer on the light you'll have to manually switch from white daytime to blue nighttime lighting.
Everyone who's seen the tank comments on how good it looks! I'm very glad I bought it even with having to make the minor modification of the filter return. For fish that like a strong current or a nano marine tank the powerful filter pump would be ideal.I bought this tank with the intention of putting a single male betta in it and taking it with me to college, so naturally I was wanting a tank that was quiet, small, had good filtration, and also a modern look. This tank has exceeded my expectations. The pump is extremely quiet, to the point where you have to listen for it in order to hear it, and the water circulates very well. It was easy to set up and I have had no problems with it. The only thing is that the pump can be rather strong for a betta. My betta did get stuck on the filter for the first two days, but then after that he stopped and started swimming around more. Since then he has not gotten stuck anymore. Also, depending on how quickly your fish would eat their food, if they wait to long the pump will suck the food up quicker than other tanks and you might have to turn it off temporarily to feed. Other than that great tank!!

Hydor H2Show Volcano Kit with Red LED and Bubbles
I bought this volcano to put in a fish tank, a gift to my son on his eighth birthday. I wanted something cool and I got it.
At first I was a little hesitant about the price, but it is well worth it: it is a water feature/light/aerator/decoration all in one product.
I'd do pros and cons but I can't find one thing I don't like about this volcano.
The red LED light goes inside the volcano, which has small, see-through slits in it that are waterproof. The slits allow the red LED light to shine through, giving the effect that the volcano is full of lava, but it does not allow the bubbles to creep out of the cracks. The bubbles only come out of the top as the volcano erupts into thousands of strong, even bubbles.
The aerator actually works inside the tank, something I found really different. The little pump actually sits inside the volcano, along with the LED spotlight. They both fit in there, no problem. It comes with black tubing and a bunch of little black suctions that you can use to arrange the lines wherever you want in the tank. The LED light is high-quality, and buying one light by itself is nearly as much as this whole volcano set up, so this volcano is well worth the money.
The aerator makes TONS of bubbles, so strong and effortlessly. All those bubbles oxygenate the tank wonderfully, energizing the fish, another added benefit of this product.
The hood on my son's new tank has the option of turning on only white or only blue LEDs. When we turn on the blue LEDs the tank turns dark with deep midnight blue undertones. The Red LEDs of the volcano look super-hot and molten. The bubbles are lit with the red LED and then disappear into the blue.
It looks like a volcano is erupting in ice-cold water. Fire and Ice--a super cool combo for my lil' man. This aquarium volcano is so cool, i puts out very fine bubbles. The pump is inside the volcano underwater so you cant hear it,

I love this volcano, it was easy to assemble and set up. It looks really nice in the aquarium. The red doesn't show through the volcano itself as much as I expected, but it is still really neat to have an erupting volcano in the tank! I found an old 10 gallon aquarium in storage and my son decided he wanted fish. It would have been cheaper to go out and buy a new kit, but then I would still have an extra tank. I wanted to find him something unique for is tank and also could work as a night light. I came across this and passed because of the price. I thought about it for awhile and decided to go with it. My biggest concern was it would be to big for a 10gal tank. I even measured but still was not sure. When I finally got it and got it in tank it takes a back corner of his tank. It does not look bad or oversized at all. The little suction cup cable guides that came with it are great. It takes three cables to run this thing(2 power, 1 air). I ran the cables behind the heater and used the suction cups to hold them in place. It has now been 5 months and the suction cups are still holding strong. The air intake is also adjustable making it nice so you do not have to many bubbles. The red LED is nice. The volcano is designed to let some light thru the sides and most out the top. It gives that corner of his room a nice red glow without being to bright. It looks nice in dark or daylight. In my opinion it is just the right size for a 10 gal tank. I think it might be to small in a 20 gallon or bigger unless it was part of a whole theme.Want Hydor H2Show Volcano Kit with Red LED and Bubbles Discount?
I love this volcano aquarium decoration. It was very easy to assemble and install and works great. I've had it in the tank for about 2 1/2 months now and still works great I haven't noticed any reduction in air flow and even though I have it mounted a bit deeper than 18 inches, probably 20 inches or so and it still works great and I keep the air control valve fully open at all times to compensate for this. The only thing I've noticed is that unfortunately LED's DO promote algae growth and I've had to wipe the lens off a few times but a Q-tip works well for this. No big deal. If you seem to notice a reduction in light output, check the lens for algae buildup.
However I wish the LED had an on/off switch. The only way to shut it off is to unplug it.
