Tetra 1.69-Ounce AquaSafe Water Conditioner with BioExtract

Tetra 1.69-Ounce AquaSafe Water Conditioner with BioExtractEACH 1.69 OZ BOTTLE (50ML) TREATS 100 GALLONS. DIRECTIONS ARE: 7 DROPS PER GALLON OR ONE CAPFUL (5ML) FOR 10 GALLONS. I PREFER THIS PRODUCT OVER ANOTHER WATER CONDITIONER BECAUSE IT GIVES DIRECTIONS TO TREAT EACH GALLON, HELPFUL FOR SMALLER BETTA TANKS OR PARTIAL WATER CHANGES IN OTHER SMALL TANKS.

Bought for my ten gallon aquarium and it works great and keeps my aquarium nice and clean so it does its job nicely. It was also at great price compared to pet stores so that was a plus.

Hydor 25W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo

Hydor 25W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original TheoI was only hesitant to purchase this because I needed to use it for a ten gallon tank (It's designed for a 7gal) and this was the most affordable option. I urge you to not be anxious yourself, however, as this heater is splendid. It looks reasonably nice and will heat your water (even in a ten-gallon tank); what more can I say? If you need an aquarium heater and have a 10gal, don't sweat it. Just buy it.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the heater doesn't look exactly like the one in the main picture. It's shorter and fatter (proportionately at least...) than pictured. This isn't a bad thing. Just don't freak out, because you ARE getting what you ordered.

This is a nice choice for a tank that holds up to 7 gallons. It's totally submersible, ACCURATE, has a very effective thermostat, and is fairly unobtrusive. One feature I like is that its light glows while the water is heating and shuts off once the correct temperature has been reached. It's a good fit for a tank such as the Eclipse 3, especially if you want to house a betta (it also works well in an Eclipse 6); the Theo allows me to acclimate new fish at 86º for a week or so to rid them of any ich they might be harboring, after which it's easy to gradually reduce the temperature to my (and their) preferred 82º.

I also use Marineland Stealths, which I like because they're plastic but frankly, it bears mentioning that Marineland's "lifetime guarantee" carries an Orwellian caveat, i.e., some Stealths are more guaranteed than others. Rather than providing mail-in product registration to activate the warranty, you're expected to hang on to your receipt...well...for a lifetime (yeah, right). In addition, if they don't like the vendor, e.g., you bought it brand new and sealed but from an eBay or Amazon seller, you can kiss your hopes of replacement for a defective unit goodbye (they claim this is due to widespread fraud and people trying to obtain replacements for units found in the trash, but why were so many units trashed if they work forever, and who are these dementos who make a career of scavenging for them? Liver-lipped Finnish Ugly Boy trolls?). Marineland (actually, Aquarium Systems; they manufacture the item in Italy), after much coaxing, replaced a brand-new dead unit for me, but it's only carrying a 90-day warranty; this is because I bought it on eBay and I received an e-slap to the effect that NONE of my other Internet purchases would be covered. On this basis, my suggestion is to boycott Stealths (unless you want to pay list at a pet store) and go with a Theo. They're also manufactured in Italy, they do a great job, and I suspect they're nicer about warranty issues.

Buy Hydor 25W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo Now

I bought a Marineland 10W heaters for my 2.5 gallon tank, but found that it overheated the water way too much. That heater may have a sensor that tells it when the water temp is too cold, but it does not shut off when the water temp skyrockets above 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

This heater, on the other hand, while larger and more obtrusive, does a much better job in regulating water temperature. I never have to worry about finding my tank temps in the high 80s the way I did with the other heater. Also, the fact that it has a regulator dial is a huge plus. While the dial calibration may be off by a degree or two, it does work. You turn it up, the water temp goes up (but not too high). Also, the little indicator light is a nice way of checking that the heater is on and working.

Even for small tanks, I would skip the unregulated 7.5W and 10W heaters and go with this one.

I have owned two Hydor Theo 25W heaters. The first I used in a 2.5gal aquarium with betta for 5 months, and it worked great. I got rid of the 2.5 gal tank for a 5.5gal tank, and the heater worked for only a few more months. At first, the temperature was 2 degrees higher then what I set it to. Soon, it was 4 degrees higher. Finally, it consistently kept it at over 8 degrees higher, and at this point the LED/heater never shut off. Soon it stopped heating altogether. I bought a second one which malfunctioned within three months of use in the 5.5 gal tank. My betta got developed severe fin rot from the inconsistent temperature.

Want Hydor 25W Submersible Aquarium Heater - Original Theo Discount?

I purchased this for an Eclipse Hex 5 tank and it works perfectly. Heater is very accurate I have it set at 78 degrees, and my thermometer verifies that the water is actually 78 degrees. There is an orange light inside the glass tube near the top that glows to let you know the heater is on, and when the water reaches the set temperature the light turns off to indicate that the heater is off. The heater is very high quality and feels very durable. The package also includes two suction cup mounts.

Like a previous commenter noted, the actual heater is shorter / stubbier than the one pictured. It worked out great for me since the Hex 5 tank isn't that tall.

Hagen 6-Pack AquaClear 9-Ounce Activated Carbon Water Filter Insert for Aquarium

Hagen 6-Pack AquaClear 9-Ounce Activated Carbon Water Filter Insert for AquariumOrdered the 6 pack because the price was great and I change the carbon every month. I currently run 2 filters on my 110 gallon tank.

My package arrived in great condition and the product did exactly as it is labeled to do. I gave four stars instead of five because you get the same quality by filling a nylon stocking with loose charcoal and tying a knot in the end for a LOT cheaper price. However it's a great product when you don't want to mess with the nylon stockings.

Bio-Floss® Filter Media for Cascade® Canister Filter Pumps, 6-pack

Penn Plax Cascade 700/1000 GPH Floss Pads, 6-PackI usually clean out my canister once or twice a month, so I always check to see the price on these. I've seen Amazon sell these from six up to ten dollars and change. These filters get dirty really fast, so I recommend replacing them at least once a month. I prefer these over the bonded filter pads because these seem to absorb more dirt, and you don't have to cut them. I still alternate between bonded filter pads and these. Keep an eye out for their low price which fluctuates almost daily.

What can I say, the fit perfectly in my Cascade 1000 pump. They last about 2 months, which would vary based on bio-load. I bought a second sponge for the bottom tray. 2 tray of SeaChem Matrix in the middle trays. Seachem Purigen and one biofloss in the top tray. Tank is crystal clear, almost like the fishing are floating in air.

Universal Rocks 24-Inch by 12-Inch Ledge Aquarium/Reptile Rigid Foam Background

Universal Rocks 24-Inch by 12-Inch Ledge Aquarium/Reptile Rigid Foam BackgroundEverything I expected and more, very realistic simply awesome!!!

Brought this item because it looked like it would "jazz up" my aquarium. My first BIG mistake was that I did not measure my tank to see how well this would fit (I have a 20 gal high tank). As a result the rock wall is about 3 inches short from the top of my hood! My fault as I should have checked before purchasing. But the really big problem is how difficult it is to install the faux rock wall to the tank. The kit comes with two plastic clips that are a total joke -they are just a couple of cut pieces of round plastic tubing that are totally useless. I have no idea how they could possibly hold the wall to the tank. As a result I decided to attach the rock wall with aquarium sealant, which has the necessary strength to hold the wall in place (its very buoyant). Overall the product looks OK, but it really needs to have a system to attach it securely in side an aquarium. It also would be much better if they offered it in a taller size.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA FilStar xP3 Canister Filter

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA FilStar xP3 Canister FilterI have been running a Rena XP3 canister filter on my 90 gallon freshwater aquarium for a few weeks now. My initial comment is that this is the easiest cannister filter to prime that I have ever owned. Having done the suck-the-hose-and-spit routine, and the restart-repeatedly routine with other filters, this filter is a joy. It's virtually self-priming. With the filter UNplugged, you simply remove the little cap from the top of the intake tube which you have placed on the upper rim of your aquarium, and pour a cup of water into it via the funnel that is provided, and the filter does the rest. The filter fills with water from the tank in 1 to 2 minutes; you then plug it in, and you're in business. Once I had the hoses connected and the filter's easy-disconnect valve closed, it took me less than 2 minutes to be fully functional.

The only issue here and this is crucial is that you MUST NOT FORCE the intake/output disconnect valve lever down into a locked position; i.e., you must be certain that it's seated on the top of the filter correctly, and then GENTLY PUSH the lever down. If you feel resistance, you don't have it seated correctly. Just wiggle it into position, and gently push the lever down. It locks into place and you are ready to self-prime it as described above. I am sure that there are some people out there who have impatiently tried to force the connect-disconnect lever into a locked position, and thereby damaged the lever and/or housing. Ordinary prudent gentleness is required here.

The interior of the cannister is extremely flexible as to the placement of media. There are several stacking trays inside that you can fill with any media that your heart desires. Rena has a broad array of sponges with different filtration densities and media pouches to choose from, and you can add more (OR DIFFERENT) media as you so choose. The media pouches are typically outrageously priced in LFS stores, but quite affordable through Amazon and online aquarium suppliers.

In addition to two grades of sponges and 3 other media that came with the filter, I added a wad of the same biological filtration ribbon that I use in my koi pond bio filters, placed into one of the empty trays (clean and unused media) to lend more support for development of nitrifying bacteria.

There is no media-water bypass with this filter because of it's central upward flow design. Crystal clear water is the result. Nitrite cycling jump started at two weeks with one of the packaged non-refrig bio product has gone off without a hitch. After doing a basic gravel clean with the python, the somewhat clouded water cleared of sediment to crystal clear within 20 minutes in my 90 gallon tank.

And is this filter as silent as they claim? Absolutely silent. I find myself looking to see if the plants are waving in a current, just to make sure the thing is still running. Just amazing. No overheating either.

As to customer service .... I had a very good experience. I had thought from reading Rena's website that there should have been a venturi included with the canister. So I emailed them after-hours, asking "where is the venturi", and gave them my phone number. Early the next morning, I got a call from the technical support folks, telling me that the venturi had been fazed out a few years ago because they felt it didn't add much to the effectiveness of the filter, and that no, I wasn't missing anything. Very prompt, courteous and professional communication. [But, Rena, if you are reading this, please update your website diagrams to reflect the absence of a venturi on current models. I think this is more than just a static page caching issue.]

I would highly recommend this Rena Filstar XP3 to potential buyers.

I have been running an XP3 & XP2 continuously for several years now with no problems. I admit, in this time I have had no need to contact customer service as I have had no problems. I run them with quartz sphere biological media, chemi-pure and or puri-gem, and the sponges that come with the filter.

What I like about them.

Quiet.

High flow rate.

Good volume of media capacity.

Flexibility potential for media used.

Easy to clean.

Flexible water return setup options once you are to the tank

Issues I wish were better.

Morer flexible hose as part of the package would ease set up. What they give you is fine and heavy duty, but its stiffness make is difficult to set up and puts a twist warp on the direction/position of the intake siphon tube and on return mechanisms at the tank. The stiff hose should be replaced and quality stainless steel band screw clamp to secure tubes to fittings allowing more flexible setup and changes to the set up. Once you set up with the current hose supplied with the kit you will have great difficulty getting it apart to change your setup.

The siphon tube sections don't hold together well sometimes and are easily knocked apart when doing water changes and tank cleaning for example. A snugger joining of pieces would be nice. I also don't like the light blue color of the siphon tube. I wish it were clear.

Rena/Mars Fishcare is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The customer service is a joke. If you can get someone to answer the phone or return your messages all they will do is make you jump through hoops until you are so frustrated you just give up. The whole time your fish suffer. I purchased an XP filter and it quit working after 2 weeks. You're better off spending your money on ANY OTHER FILTER.

Read Best Reviews of Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA FilStar xP3 Canister Filter Here

I have no idea why this filter is so expensive except to guess that the US dollar is low. This unit does have it's fans but I will tell you that the unit is full of liabilities. LEAKS is the achilles heal of any filter and completely unacceptable. The inlet and outlet to the pump is only sealed by two small o-rings. The quick detach unit is not so secure that slight pull by the tubing can cause leaks. Even worse, if there is any outlet load whatsoever, the unit will leak. Forget trying to hook a uv sterilizer or CO2 chamber to the outflow--I would not trust the unit not to leak. Also, the leak is not immediately noticeable. It will leak into the top pump unit and then start to trickle out hours later. I keep mine in a plastic bin because I have had multiple episodes of leaks. MULTIPLE!!!

Another area of problem has to do with cheapness also. The impeller cover has small plastic ridges that hold it in place. Unfortunately the tolerances of cheap plastic is not so good that the cover has popped off, which creates a lot of noise and limits the output of the unit dramatically. Of course, warranty is only as good as the provider. I called Rena/API and was promised a replacement cover. None was received.

No filter canister is perfect but I will take the simplicity of a Eheim Classic 2217 over the XP3 any day.

He's the man who just about invented half of the technical techniques that Salt Water Aquarium owners use to make coral and fish survive. Marina Amazon Sword Plant Decoration

Hagen Amazon Sword Plant, LargeThis is a much better value than some of the large silk plants offered. Although plastic it looks very good in the tank. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is that a few times the large plecos have been able to pull the leaves off the stems they slide right back on but in my maintenance tanks this can be a little frustrating because I am not there all the time. You could use a little super glue to lock them on if you wished. They should just be a little more snug but at least they don't shred and turn into a mass of threads like the silk ones they have replaced.

Second time I've gotten a defective 10,000 K lamp from amazon. And second time I am going through the return process. Last year when the lamps were needing replacement, in my Biocube 29g, I ordered the normal 36 watt 10000K and 36 watt actinic lamps. The 10000 k lamp I received for some reason had the same hue as the actinic lamp and was still labeled 10000k on the lamp! (which had to of been a manufacture defect)I returned the lamp.

This year I decided to try again because the pricing is reasonably better than the local stores $5 to even $10 cheaper than in my area. The 10,000k lamp I received this time around was defective and did not light up, only flickered about once or twice before giving out. I am now waiting for a replacement, surely if something is wrong with this one I will buy my aquarium products elsewhere from now on.

Also note the actinic lamp I received this year was in excellent condition but was also from an out side vender on amazon.

Mammoth Flossy Chews Cottonblend Color 3-Knot Rope Tug

Flossy Chews Cottonblend Color 3-Knot Rope Tug, X-Large, 36-InchThis rope is 2 inches thick, and 3 feet long. My Jack Russell dog is a heavy chewer. 1 month later my dog still tries to chew threw it without success! The ends of this rope are frayed and fluffy, which work great for my dog trying to clean his teeth. I would recommend this for any heavy chewer dog.

This is the best toy we have bought.

Was the first toy we picked up for our dog in addition to a plush and some squeaky balls. The plush was in the garbage in less than a week, the balls have been lost / punctured. This has held up to many tug games, flosses my dogs teeth, and stands up to her chewing. It still looks relatively nice for 4 months of play. Greatest rope toy ever. No complaints.

Hagen A1624 14-Watt Power-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 15-Inch

Hagen A1624 14-Watt Power-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 15-InchPower-Glo is my favorite flourescent bulb for acrylic freshwater tanks--not too blue and not yellow, a very good looking full spectrum bright white in an acrylic tank. (In a glass tank, it looks much bluer--too blue for my taste.) It is similar to the Aqua-Glo in color temperature (18K), but the Aqua-Glo lacks the yellow green component of the Power-Glo spectrum and looks purplish by comparison to the Power-Glo. The Power-Glo also puts out a third more lumens than the Aqua-Glo and is much brighter.

I have used this brand for years and they always make a high quality bulb for the money I would recommend this product to anyone

Buy Hagen A1624 14-Watt Power-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 15-Inch Now

Unfortunately, I can't say what this looks like in comparison to any other specific light, but I can say that it looks great. I replaced an unknown bulb which was 2 years old, and everything in my tank looks more than just brighter now; it looks more vibrant. The blue background art, the green plants, the yellow rocks, and the orange fish... all of them look bluer, greener, yellower, and oranger, respectively.

Would another light have achieved the same effect? Maybe. But the point is, this is the one I bought and that's how it performed. I'm happy, and I'd buy it again. I'm not sure how much benefit there really is to over-thinking your aquarium light purchase. Just buy one that works, and trust me when I say that this one does.

Super Pet My First Home Tank Topper

Super Pet My First Home Tank TopperI'm really surprised that large chain stores don't carry this product. This is the best housing solution for Syrian hamsters we've found in years of looking. Combine this with a $10 glass aquarium and its the cheapest as well. Plastic "...trail" products are not durable, are a pain to assemble and hard to keep clean. Metal cages are durable but expensive and not as flexible. What we've done is combine Crittertrail parts with the platforms that come with this kit to get the same effect as a larger all-plastic cage. As for those who complain that the shelving gets chewed...um, duh...thats how these little guys explore their surroundings and that also tells me you aren't offering them an alternative to help wear down their incisors. Cleaning this setup is a snap, the cover comes off in one piece--along with any attached shelves & parts--giving you easy access to litter for changing. Housing potential mates next to each other allows Syrians to interact a bit without sharing the same cage--preventing fights b/w incompatible suitors. The biggest drawback to this product is the tendency for Syrians to "pitch-their-poop" if their on the second floor--but training them to use a corner box in the aquarium can minimize "collateral damage." Finally, rodent urine will eventually lead to rusting of just about any cage, but repaint & seal with quality non-toxic spray paints and you're good to go.

Great idea, but the plastic in the ramps and platforms isn't going to last much longer with my gerbils...they have chewed completely through one ramp and one platform. This would be a much better product if the ramps and platforms were made of a different (harder) material, or of wood. (The wood to give the gerbils something HEALTHY to chew on) Would be better if it came with an extra set of ramps and platforms until then.

Buy Super Pet My First Home Tank Topper Now

I bought two of these for my kids hamsters and the one hamster does great climbing and doing everything the cage is for. The other hamster fell off the top when she started sliding and refused to go up again so now the cage is in the basement.

Its also not as easy to get to your hamster since if she is in the tank you can't just open the top and reach in unless you have super long arms so you must remove the entire top which for a kid can be tough. I worry that they will not hook it right and it will get knocked off and the cats will have lunch.

Often the hamster food ends up all over the place too since its set in the top part and if you are not completly steady it spills.

Read Best Reviews of Super Pet My First Home Tank Topper Here

I would have given it 5 stars but my gerbils chewed the house up within a week or two and now after a couple of months they no longer have ramps. Currently, they're working on chewing up the shelves.

So I'm off to buy one that's entirely wire. Wish I had done that in the first place!

Want Super Pet My First Home Tank Topper Discount?

We have 3 rats, one naked rat, one albino white rat, and one dumbo rat. They were originally in a huge ferret cage until they all discovered how to squeeze through the bars. This thing is perfect, and I was surprised at how much stuff comes with it! The ramps are a great touch, and this morning when I woke up, they were all huddled up in the nice blue hut. The only thing I dislike is the bottle of water that comes with it, it's terribly small, and it's a pain to reach in there and pull the thing out all the time, so I just put the old bottle we originally had in there for them.

My favorite feature is that the bowl of food kind of locks into the top ramp, so they can't fill it with bedding and all sorts of yuck.

It took awhile to get here, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has small critters that need some more space. I will try to post a video here soon, but I see that another user already did that (which is what made me buy this).

Conclusion: FOR THE $25 dollars, this is a whole lot of stuff, and effectively doubles the size of your 10 gallon tank, easy setup, i just looked at the box and snapped everything together.

biOrb Easy Plant - 2 Pack Small

biOrb Easy Plant - 2 Pack SmallI love the easy plant 2 pack for my Beta fish. He loves to hide in them and sleep. These need replacing after

6 months because they become kind of slimy and moldy. However, I love this product.

These are a really nice addition to our tank. The look very well made. I might add that they are much darker than pictured.

Some aquarium plants tend to look cheap but these are so nice and really look lifelike in my baby bio orb. I've had them almost a year and have taken them out a few times and washed them off and that's all they need. Nice and low maintenance, just the kind of plants I like. :)

It really could work for you if you don't care too much about details. Unfortunately for me, I do, and these plants had random black ink marks printed in the wrong areas. It looks really messed up. Especially the thicker plant. So, I went and bought some simple live plants. Beautiful, natural, and look much better than these neon green fakes.

Gulfstream Tropical AGU030SM Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner, Small

Gulfstream Tropical AGU030SM Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner, SmallThis magnet works. Unlike scrub sponges, your arm stays dry. The surface of the magnet that goes inside the aquarium is rough enough to actually take the algae off the glass. Unlike another brand of algae magnet that I've used, it floats, so you don't have to tie a string to it. If you haven't used magnets before, keep in mind that there will be places in your aquarium that a magnet may not be able to reach or you may have to move things around to get there (i.e. around the filter and heater). If your aquarium's close to the wall, getting to the back of the aqarium gets tricky too. A yardstick helps. Whatever you do, please don't buy this product for an acrylic aquarium. It's meant only for glass like it says in the title. The manufacturer makes one for acrylic. I can't review that one since I've never had acrylic, but make sure you're getting the right kind for your tank.

I wreaked my 55 with these magnets becuse i didnt notice tiny iron particals that must have came from the sand got stuck to the mag. at first they worked great from me i plan to buy a new one just giving anyone new to this product the heads up to keep an eye on the magnets make sure their clean!

I've used this for over a year and here are my thoughts.

Pros:

Works great on GLASS aquariums.

Cleans the algae on the glass great, just make sure you use the rough side to do the scraping.

Cleans without you having to get your hand down in the water.

Easy to take the Mag Float around corners

Cons:

Hard to clean at the corners and seams of the glass.

Be careful if you have sand in your tank as it can scratch the glass if sand particles get trapped in the Mag Float as you drag it around.

Tips:

When you are cleaning corners I find it easier to put the Mag Float vertical and drag it up and down rather than horizontally. You'll get more coverage that way.

When you are finished cleaning, take the Mag Float to the top and pull away your end of it so the Mag Float floats up to the surface nearest where you just released it. Then just use your fingers and grab it out of the water. If you take your end and grab it with the magnet then you'll likely splash yourself and your surroundings.

Overall I give this 4.5 stars. Hard to clean the corners but it is what it is and great maintenance between full-blown tank cleanings.

Highly recommended.

There have been a lot of reviews about how it scratches your glass if sand gets in it, but the product has warnings. The size is 1" X 2", really unexpected but it's good. It says on the back of pack:

Clean outside aquarium surface thoroughly before each use.

Remove all debris from Mag-Float prior to each use.

Do not use Mag-Float above waterline or on dry surface.

Keep Mag-Float away from the gravel line and glass aquarium sealant.

The magnet part with logo Mag-Float is placed on the outside aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be left attached to aquarium surface.

Mag-Float can be used on fresh/saltwater aquariums.

Keep Mag-Float away from electronic devices such as computers, pace makers, etc.

Manufacturer/Distributor assumes no liability for any damages to your aquarium due to improper use of product.

All other reviews that complain have simply been a result of misuse. This is a great product. I recommend it, but please pay attention to the size of this one, 1" X 2"

This magnet is better suited for glass aquariums that get a lot of algae on the surface of the glass. For day-to-day or average use, the magnet bristles are too harsh and will gladly host any particles floating in the water that will scratch your glass. So be careful, they way to use it is to rinse both surfaces of the cleaner (outside and inside) to make sure there aren't any particles stuck. Then, as you are doing a water change, use a sponge to wipe the inside of the aquarium making sure you eliminate any particles or sand stuck to the glass. Then use the magnet (make sure you pair it only once). If you follow this process you will reduce the chances that you will scratch the glass. I am giving it two stars because for me all these steps are an inconvenience.
