If you do order these, order extras because, I can guarantee, that you will receive a broken one. Of the 8 I ordered, only half were usable. 3 arrived broken in half and 2 others made an odd rattling sound when tilted side to side. Luckily, Amazon returns was very easy but still, took forever to get 4 functioning bulbs. These look great on my aquarium, they last a descent amount of time and the plants in my aquarium seem to grow well in them. This light bulb is designed for aquariums, however it is the same size as the overhead light in my credenza hutch at work. This size is hard to find and expensive. This is the best value anywhere and it arrived quickly and undamaged.Monday, September 1, 2014

This was overpriced for the quality of plastic used in this fishbowl. I'd return it if I didn't need to use it so soon. Very disappointed.Purchased a couple of these fishbowls for the office. Used them at tradeshows that did not have lead retrieval, so we put business cards in there and when it was time for the raffle, picked the card from the fishbowl.Saturday, August 23, 2014
All Glass Aquarium AAG29020 Versa Top, 20-Inch
As another reviewer mentioned the hood is 19.5" long, which means it will fit a standard 20" x 10" framed tank perfectly. This is much better than the plastic one my aquarium came with. It is lightweight, easy to clean, I have not noticed any water evaporation ever since I installed this, and I can customize the back where the filters, etc., are stored using only a scissor. I definitely recommend this for anyone to use.

The product arrived a day early and was protected well. It does require a very minimal amount of assembly, but well worth the money. It fits my ten gallon tank and keeps the humidity elevated consistently (almost too well). Additionally, there is a plastic sheath that is the back 1/4 of the cover. This allows airflow and humidity regulation. Moreover, the lid folds over in the middle allowing easy access. Here's a breakdown:Pros: sturdy glass, heavy enough to keep hermit crabs in, allows air circulation, folding lid, keeps humidity high
Cons: may keep humidity too high (I prop up the cover with a stick sometimes), only fits standard 10gallon tank.

I've got two tanks: the 37 gal has two good sized Chinese algae eaters, two Yo-Yo loaches and a large Rainbow shark. They all love this food. The other tank has five Cory cats and a big Pleco. algae eater like the one on the package. They eagerly go after these wafers. They do float for a bit sometimes, but you can eliminate that by just plopping the pieces into the water with a little force -and they sink. (They need to absorb a small amount of water, and then they fall right to the bottom). I got these as an "add on" when I spotted them listed and am glad for it. Tetra has been making good stuff for a very long time and this is right in line. Recommended for your catfish type critters.Read Best Reviews of Tetra 77016 TetraVeggie Algae Wafers, Pouch Bag, 3.03-Ounce, 86-Gram Here

Seachem Stability 250ml
Most of these products -want you to use them continuously which doesn't make sense to me.If you have a fully cycled tank why would keep adding new strains of bacteria to already established water? Well, I think because some manufacturers want you too keep coming back for more and the price of admission isn't cheap.
Cycle at around $22 for 16 ounces encourages you to dose your tank with 5 ml for every ten gallons once a week and 10 ml for every ten gallons during water changes.
Nonsense.
This brings me to "Stability" by Seachem (one of my favorite companies)But being partial to them and their product line doesn't mean I don't question or research as best I can when trying something new. That said, I'm nursing a new 55, a 40 and 125. I had a bottle of Stability which I had bought on a what the heck basis the 55 has fish in it, I seeded the filter but still had serious ammonia spikes.
Seachem claims that the bacteria used in competitive products are inherently unstable. And for the bacteria to survive it must live in the exact temperature, PH and other water parameters in which it was raised and colonized. This makes perfect sense. When you add this bacteria to your aquarium, it survives for a brief while but then crashes and dies.
Stability on the other hand, has bacteria that can survive in almost any kind of water fresh and salt and virtually any type of water conditions.Seachem states the strain took a decade to develop. What sets it further apart from the competition is that it contains nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria which isn't the case for any other product of it's kind.Seachem also states other bacterial supplements form toxic hydrogen sulfide something that can never happen with Stability.
With this said, I've dosed the 55 and 40 according to the directions which are 5 ml per 10 gallons on the first dose and a follow up of 5 ml per 20 gallons for 7 days. What I've noticed and noticed quickly, is that my water is clearly more stabilized. Currently I show no ammonia on the API test or Seachem Ammonia Alert meter it's been five days since the last dose and all of my readings are in the safe zone.
I don't use it for water changes but having experienced the problems of adding fish to a non or partially cycled tank, I have not so fond memories of daily 50% -80% water changes for weeks..ugh.Where Stability shines is in helping you protect your fish and stabilize the water, especially in keeping the primary fish killer ammonia in check. So for specific applications Stability is an excellent product. It's harmless to fish and appears to deliver on it's promise. But as a weekly or even monthly addition to established tank maintenance I wouldn't suggest it.
To their Credit, Seachem says you can use it as an on going additive but unlike other products they don't make it sound like you have to.I had hi hopes for stability and used it as advised. (even longer than suggested 7 days) While I think its a good supplement for your bio media... It doesnt quite save you from new tank syndrome like they advertise. My advise is use when your bio system needs a boost or doing water changes not for starting new tanks so much when you want to add fish right away and expect them to live through the tank cycle. (well maybe if they are hardy....but thats another story / debate)
Buy Seachem Stability 250ml Now
I would give this more stars, but the thing is it worked so well initially that i never needed to use it but once (making it pretty expensive for a small application). Use as jumpstart for new tanks or full water changes (?). The Biofilter is important for clean and efficient water cycles, this keeps levels in check, and my fish seem happy.I was feeling stuck cycling my tank and followed the directions on this product and my tank not only cycled but has remained perfect (no ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates) with weekly 15 -20% water change. I have not had to continue adding this product either. I choose to add it once a month to play it safeNo complaints here. This stuff works very well. Grab some and give it a try. You will not be sorry.Thursday, April 10, 2014

Rena Air 300 Air Pump
I'm apparently slowly working my way through Amazon's stock of Rena Air Pumps.
First I ordered a 400. It was LOUD (bumped a quiet room from 40 to 46db at 1m (kind of making me seriously question Rena's 30db at 1m claims). Once plugged in, it turns out it generated no power on one side. The 400 is supposed to be two 300s in the same enclosure. I'd bought one 300 and one noise maker that didn't push any air. Fortunately, Amazon are awesome about returns.
Given the 400 was only 50% successful, I replaced it with two 300s. That way, if one was faulty, I could keep using the other one while I sent the faulty one back. It's $10 more than a 400 but keeps the tank aerated in case of issues. I'm very glad I did. Sure enough, one works well while one makes a lot of noise and can't drive air through the airlines, let alone produce the air a borrowed 200 is producing.
The lessons I'm learning here are:
1) Rena's quality is *very* variable. You can get very good ones. And you can get very bad ones. I'm running at about a 50% success rate (counting the 400 as two pumps as it is exactly that two x 300s inside one enclosure).
2) If it's running very loud or barely putting out air, even after you adjust the flow control, you likely got a bad one.
3) Decibels are an incredibly subjective measure. What does 30db at 1m recorded in a silent room really mean in your home? With a TV on, with background noise, it shouldn't be too noticeable. In a quiet room while you're home alone, expect to easily hear it through an aquarium stand and for it to be approaching the noise of a running fridge. If it's louder than the fridge and the airflow is poor, you've likely got a bad one.
4) Order in pairs so you've got something to compare to and can return one if it's noticeably louder or produces noticeably less air. Having one on its own, with nothing to compare to, just leads you to questioning your judgment.
5) Get used to the idea you'll possibly have to return a couple until you get a good one. Fortunately, Amazon's great about this.
6) If returns annoy you, don't get the 400. If there's a 50:50 chance of getting a faulty 300, you now have a 75:25 chance of at least one side of the 400 being faulty. Plus, if one 300 fails later, you've still got one pump. If one of the two 300 pumps inside the 400 fails, you've now got a loud unit to either deal with or entirely replace. This pump lives up to the hype! It is a little pricey but maybe you do get what you pay for. I'll know more a year from now. Up to this point it is a good working , QUIET pump.Purchased this air pump to replace my much older whisper pump and this one was VERY quiet. Had it now for several months and would recommend it to anyone wanting peace and quiet in their home.

Hikari Usa Inc AHK22036 Massivore Delite 13.4-Ounce
I use it about 5 times a week and also provide other food like bloodworms, tubifex worms, spirulina flakes, various cichlid pellets (sinking or floating), and freeze dried crickets for variety. It is less expensive online than in local stores, so it is affordable.
Most of all, I credit this food as a a valuable replacement for live food. Why would I not want to use live food? 2 reasons. First, most fishes raised as food for other fishes are in bad shape and introduce diseases to your cichlids. (Also, I dislike supporting the barbaric treatment of fishes used as live food by buying them.) Second, this is important if you want a group of cichlids to live (somewhat) peacefully together, for the practice of releasing live fish in tanks for cichlids to chase and hunt for their food promotes predation and territoriality in cichlids. I figure that my cichlids now must adapt to a life in a home aquarium with other fish in a limited space, so I need to calm down their aggressive instincts as much as possible.
I have fed all of my fish since I got them at an inch or so long with this food (broken into smaller bits depending on their size) rather than using live food. I credit this food for encouraging these potentially hostile fish to live together more harmoniously since without live food to chase they have never exercised their hunting instincts, which I suspect would lead them to look at one another as delicious prey. As a result, as I kept getting larger and larger tanks to accommodate their growth my cichlids were able to interact more peacefully with new tank mates from other tanks. While I am not going so far as to claim that peace, love, and understanding reign in my big cichlid tanks, I think that this food helps to diffuse the political situation among the cichlids!I purchased these some months ago for my Birchir Fish, as he needs a high protein level than my smaller tropical fish do. He will not get near other brands when I run out of these, so I have bought several packs here to keep on-hand [they stay fresh for several years when kept intact from the manufacturer, once opened they are fresh for up to 6 months or so].

Ocean Star International A90004 Smooth Bark Tree Stump for Bird Cages, X-Large
Only a couple "problems" with this product: 1) They're a lot harder than real wood, so if your large fish should "crash" into this while zipping somewhere, they'll get some ugly scrapes and boo-boo's. Cure is to not crowd your tank with craggy plastic things, and leave plenty of swimming room. Once I put our "stumps" on opposite sides of the tank, things seem much better. 2) The other problem I've noticed is that they're hollow to the tip of the roots... which means food finds it's way deep down into there, and it's near impossible to get it out unless you invert the thing and hose it out. Also, I think one of our bristlenose pleco's might have just gotten stuck and well... died... in there, but I never see much of our two bristlenose's anyway, so I can't really say for sure.
Nice product, though! After opening this item i was very happy at the way it looked. I placed the item in my tank (the entire thing is hollow so food and fish poop colleceted in the bottom of the thing) after 4 months i took it out to clean the tank and it fell apart and had rotted( smelled horrid!!) so if you are looking for long term look else were.

fish love this wood bought more and now changed my tank to all wood and fish love it if tank was bigger ,56 gallon tall, i would have more woodLily glass pipes 9mm for aquarium + free sucker
I ordered the small (it's listed as lily pipe s) without realizing it, but luckily it is for my small 7 gallon tank.
I believe they have the large version pictured, so an accurate picture of the sizes would have been a little helpful.
The small (s) version comes with only one suction cup (when pictured as 2), and I was hoping it would come with 2, but I can live with it or just order some cheap clear ones off ebay.
I ordered these intending to use them with the EHEIM 2211 canister filter, and it doesn't look like this version of lily pipes is going to match the hoses that come with the filter.
a little more detail in the measurements in sizes would have been really helpful. So I will have to do some of my own testing of hose sizes from these to the EHEIM in order to confirm if it will work or not. I will definitely have to buy a different hose with a smaller diameter to fit these, though.
I will be ordering the Medium (m) sized lily pipes as they should be the perfect size for my 18 gallon tank.
I will definitely update this review once I have both.
The shipping wasn't extremely long, but it wasn't fast either. The packaging wasn't over the top (individually divided & bubble wrapped. No fragile or glass warning,) but it arrived in perfect condition, and you can't expect much coming from out of country, costing 18.00, and labeled in a different language

PondCare AlgaeFix, 1 gallon
Buy PondCare AlgaeFix, 1 gallon Now
Had major string algae in my pond. Tried this product and within a week could see algae disappearing. Used weekly until most algae was gone and then just monthly. Did not harm my fish or plants. Honestly, I don't like the idea of having to use strong chemicals in my pond, however, the algae got so bad I had too. I did try other products (barley straw) which really did nothing.IT WORKED GREAT AND IT WAS QUICK , I NOTICED A BIG DIFFERENCE THE NEXT DAY. I PUT IT IN THE POND ON A VERY SUNNY DAY.I've used this product for the last two years in our small pond. We have some pond plants and 15 gold fish in the pond. This product has really helped to control the algae growth. Instead of having to clean the pond pump about every day, I now only need to do that every other week or longer. I have not had any plants or fish die. We've simply followed the directions!
