Coralife 05741 3X Turbo Twist UV Replacement Lamp, 9-Watt

Coralife 05741 3X Turbo Twist UV Replacement Lamp, 9-WattThese bulbs do what they are supposed to. When they are on and there is adequate water flow through your UV sterilizer, you should be free from algae and bacteria which discolor your water. I use it on a 55 gallon FOWLR tank and it always does its job. The only problem is the short life span. It doesn't get nearly the 10,000 hours which it claims to. I would say I have averaged about 4-5 months per bulb over the past 4 years of using this UV sterilizer. This can start to get somewhat expensive and time consuming to always replace the bulb. Also, unless you check the bulb regularly, it may burn out and you and you won't realize it until there is a problem.

Overall: works well but doesn't last long enough

Within few days the lamp worked and our pond is clear. I love being able to see my fish swim around...

Buy Coralife 05741 3X Turbo Twist UV Replacement Lamp, 9-Watt Now

I'm not super happy with the life of these bulbs. That said, they do the job, and the Turbo Twist units are great.

If you're thinking about running UV continuously for the sake of general water purity, consider that it's not necessarily to do so with most aquaria. We ran continuous UV for awhile but found that replacing our carbon with Seachem Purigen worked as good or better at removing organic impurities in our water. Purigen polishes the water amazingly well, even where some algae is present. Plus, it's renewable and lasts 5-10x longer than carbon. Now we only use UV if one of our pets is ill (rarely), which keeps us from buying UV lamps every few months. It's sooo much less expensive this way.

This lamp is a true replacement product for the Turbo Twist UV sterilizer. Easy enough to install. My only complaints about these bulbs is that if run continuously (as they should be), they only last around 6months. If you are currently using this product, be sure to purchase a spare and keep an eye on the bulb as it will need frequent changes. Good luck!

Spectrastone Permaglo Orange Aquarium Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 5-Pound Bag

Spectrastone Permaglo Orange Aquarium Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 5-Pound BagMy 8 year old grandson decided for his birthday he wanted his room done in neon orange (his favorite color). Didn't know how I was going to be able to change his aquarium to match his room. This stone was perfect. Thank you.

Shipping was great got here days after ordering even tho it said it would take much longer. The color of the gravel however is not as shown. It is much lighter and nothing special. petco's is the same orange and costs a couple bucks less. if bought in stores a lot less. Dont waste your money unless the only thing you are worried about is a quick delivery.

Hagen Marina Flexible Coil Brush

Hagen Marina Flexible Coil BrushIt looked okay, but within a few minutes of use the end of the brush came off leaving it stuck at full length inside of the plastic tube I was cleaning. Now this wasn't a press fit so there really wasn't much pressure on the brush that would have caused it to come off. It just came disconnected from the long steel rod. No way to fix it that I could see or trust that it wouldn't happen again. Donated it to the trash can. Maybe two stars is too much.

I bought this for my husband to clean the fish and turtle tanks and he loves it. It fits into all the small and curved tubes and filters. We looked at all the pet stores and the only place it can be found is online. He gives it 5 stars!

to really get crap out of tubing the brush could stand to b a bit less soft. It does flex well to get thru tubing but If your trying to get coralline off it's not very effective unless you soak whatever in a strong vinegar bath for a good while first. Takes a bit of scrubbing for algae too! I also had the brush come off also inside my protein skimmer...luckily I could get some tweezers in the hole & pull it out! I got it screwed back in tight but now don't trust it as much!

To those that had trouble w/the brush coming off, if u just twist it back into the wire tubing it goes right back! Just tighten it REALLY hard & it'll stay! I've done that after it came off & it's been fine! Still needs to b a bit less wimpy of a brush though!!

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 991-Gallon Per Hour

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 991-Gallon Per HourThe pump doesn't come with the standard suction-cup style mount to keep vibration away from your sump bottom and walls. So, I have it on top of a sponge with a another sponge between it and the wall closest to it. Now the pump is quiet.

I decided to go with Quiet One after reading several reviews and it only uses 65 watts to pump 991gph. One of these keeps my 400 gallon pond crystal clear and clean. This pump pushes water up just under 6 feet with ease.

I recently ordered two more for my future fish room. These will be in my sump pumping water to my tanks. 65 watts is great and a great selling point.

I use this in my pond. it works great. I have it attached to a canister filter that i made for the intake side and it filters the water clear and pumps up to the small waterfalls for that added effect. I bought this one to replace an identical pump that lasted for over 5 years running 24X7.

I wasnt sure if i should purchase this pump or not but decided to and worked out great. i lower the flow rate while feeding so my fish have a chance to eat. After 5 or 10 min i turn it back full blast and it circulates all the water very fast. The only issue i have with it is that it is a little noisy but I dont mind it since the fish tank is in the living room and not in my bedroom. Also the fittings that come with it does not work well so what i ended up doing was buying some fittings from HomeDepot to screw into the return end to get a tighter fit which at about $3 each but a simple fix. I would buy it again if they go out in the long run

Want Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 991-Gallon Per Hour Discount?

Great pump; does the trick. If you are concerned about the noise factor, it tends to hum a little louder if it's sitting on the bottom of something I rigged up a suspension mechanism so the pump is more or less 'floating' in the water. Very strong pump I have a ball valve in the hose leading to the tank and have it open less than 1/2 way.

Spirulina Discs Fish Food

Hartz Wardley Spirulina Discs, 2-OunceI have guppies, apple snails, pond snails, and shrimp. I feed a different food each day of the week. My creatures love this product. I actually bought it for the bottom feeders, but the guppies go crazy over it too. It sinks to the bottom perfectly and before long the fish find it and go crazy. The snails are next, and the fight ensues. The shrimp usually like to wait until things have died down, but sometimes they will sneak in and try to grab some bites before the others have cleared out.

They are good sized pellets for my 10 gallon community. My only complaint is the dispenser. The top slides around to reveal an oddly shaped hole which is too small to easily extract a disc. It's very annoying. I'd really rather just open the top and get one out.

This stuff STINKS and i dont mean that in a bad way. Its got a potent smell that lasts for a few hours. I have always been a fan of natural treatment. Garlic has been known to help boost immune systems and help rid fish of parasites. I had a fish come down with the glaze over its eye not sure if it was "pop-eye" but within 1 day of soaking the food with 2 drops of this stuff the eye cleared up. Keep in mind it wasnt a severe case but it was no doubt something to be concerned about. I dose the tank once per week and I add it to the frozen food once per week as well. Dont throw away the "protective bottle" or you will have a room filled with garlic odor.

biUbe Pure Aquarium with Halogen Light, Clear, 9 Gallons

biUbe Pure Aquarium with Halogen Light, Clear, 9 GallonsI wanted to buy a small aquarium for my bedroom so after doing some research, I decided on a Reef One Aquarium. I really wanted the biOrb Life 45 for the extra gallons and the fact that it doesn't distort the fish, but decided against it because I thought it wasn't worth the price. So, I got the biUbe and I am very satisfied.

I have had aquariums since I was young, and though I am no expert by any means, I know that the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain. The problem is, I really couldn't fit anything too big in my little bedroom so I thought this aquarium would be perfect and it is. When doing my research, some people advised against these kinds of aquariums, but the people who actually have the tank don't really have too many complaints about them. As long as you're patient and follow directions, you shouldn't have a problem.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of:

1.) The pump that comes with the aquarium is very loud and annoying. If you are putting your tank in a room with lots of white noise, then this shouldn't be a problem, but in a bedroom all I hear is a loud buzzing noise coming from the pump. I immediately replaced the pump with a different brand that produced less noise. Although most air pumps do submit some noise, compared to the one by Reef One, the new one is way better.

2.) The pump that comes with the tank is not known to last very long and requires a replacement within 6 months to a year (some people say less, they even tell you to keep a spare pump for this reason in the book). Do yourself a favor and just purchase the Tetra Whisper 10 gallon air pump here on amazon for $9.99. It's cheaper than biOrb's pump, last longer, and not as noisy. I bought 2 for that price.

3.) Reef One wants you to replace the filter too often and this can be pricey. Talk to some people who have had their biOrb for a while and they will tell you how to prolong the filter pad life.

4.) The aquarium is made of acrylic. While acrylic is much stronger than glass, it scratches so easily. Just be careful not to use anything to rough like paper towels or a rag. I brought a few microfiber clothes to clean the aquarium.

The above things are miner and can definitely be worked around. Just keep in mind that pretty much any aquarium smaller than a 20 or 30 gallon requires a little more time and effort.

Having known all this before I purchased my biUbe, I absolutely love my tank! It is very beautiful and doesn't take up too much room in my small bedroom because of its shape.

P.S. The title for the biUbe from amazon.com wrong. It actually comes with the biOrb Intelligent LED light not the halogen light.

UPDATE: Well, I have been having the tank for a few months now and I love it even more everyday. I actually prefer it over the biOrb Life 60, which I also have. I am up to 4 fish now (please follow the directions in only adding 1 or 2 small fish per month, otherwise your tank can crash, killing the fish, and go through a mini cycle if the bio-load gets too overwhelmed). I added a small internal filter behind my bubble tube cover just for some added filtration. If you are worried about the fish being distorted, it's really not that bad at all. You still get a very good view of the fish when they come swimming around. Remember, small tanks take a little more patience, so don't be in a hurry to get a full stock right after your tank is done cycling. Take your time and enjoy!

Most little tanks look like they belong on a 9 year old's night stand. This one, thankfully, does not. It is artistic in it's design but it does not hinder you from actually keeping fish. I have it on a little table in my office and it's just the right amount of size for that space.

Simple to put to together, and very low-maintenance. It takes about 5-10 minutes a week to do a water change. Changing the filter is a snap -just pull out the tube and twist off the filter. Put the new one on and put it back. That's it.

I have a heater in mine so i can keep tropical fish. Doesn't take too big of one to heat this baby.

The vertical configuration makes it slightly tricky to get decor to work right, but i've found that the smaller stuff works just fine if you plan it right.

The LED lights that come with this are awesome. You can set it to many different settings of timing for your sunrise/sunset routine. The weirdest thing is that it goes from 8 hrs to 14 hrs of daylight for a choice with nothing in between. But the light really enhances the fish -and the pure clear outside allows them to really show up well.

I've seen a few reviews on amazon (for other colors) that were so negative it's hard to believe it's the same item. People blaming the Biube for killing their fish? Really? It's a plastic tube with a pump and rocks. The only issues i've had were smaller fish trying to dig into the rocks for food and getting stuck as the rocks are like volcanic rock and not small smooth pebbles. This is to enhance the natural bio filter.

Anyway I highly recommend this tank. I want to get another one.

Buy biUbe Pure Aquarium with Halogen Light, Clear, 9 Gallons Now

I love my new Biube Pure aquarium, and what's more important is that our betta fishy, Braveheart, is more flippy than ever. He is our second betta, and he and Fishy 1 lived in an unfiltered 2.5 gallon vase bowl prior to this (serial inhabitants). Fishy 1 lived for 4 years in that environment and was happy. Fishy 2 (Braveheart) lived in the bowl for about 6 months before I started researching for a new aquarium. The water was starting to grow slime film and was increasingly getting difficult to keep clean. I don't like the look of boxy aquariums, so when I came across the Biube, I thought that's the new home for Braveheart!

Wanting to do everything right now, I cycled the tank before putting fishy in -it took 4 weeks, but I feel is well worth the effort. I followed instructions by this person (search fish keeping forum uk and jenny bugs post 6259), and cycled my tank fish less using the ammonia method. Fishy's been in his new home for over a week now and loves it. He dances more and swims through his castle all the time, which he wasn't doing so much in his last home. I've got a bunch of real plants now and he loves to explore the tank. I was worried the depth might be a problem for him, because bettas generally come from shallow waters, but immediately when I put him in the tank, he swam down to the bottom to check everything out. He hangs out all over the tank and sleeps in the plants at night. I have a Fluval M 50 watt heater that I also got on amazon to keep him nice and cozy -bettas like 78-80 degree water. And finally, because they prefer calmer water, I bought a flow regulator to put in the air line. We've reduced the bubbles to a light flow, while still aerating the water for the plants and filtering purposes. I just tested the water today to check how everything is doing since he was added and all the levels (nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia) are perfect! :)

I'm considering getting him some tank mates (tetras) when we get back from christmas vacation. Also, the air pump is a little noisy so we may get a tetra whisper as another reviewer suggested. Overall, we're very happy.

The clear plexiglass of this tank makes it almost transparent, so you can see the fish really well. Since it has less filtering (out of the box) than a regular tank, it is important not to overload it with too many (or too large) fish. I modified it by using smaller gravel over the rocks that come with it, because the rocks (which are necessary for the biological filter) are quite ugly and excess food gets trapped in it. I also added a small Tom filter (the smallest one, it's only

Aqueon Full-Spectrum Daylight T8 Fluorescent Lamp

Aqueon 65356 18-Inch Full-Spectrum Daylight T8 Fluorescent Lamp, 15-WattThis Aqueon 8000K bulb is a standard offering in many aquarium kits that include a hood and bulb. They are available in several lengths. I am reviewing the 48" bulb.

We have four very colorful Shubunkin goldfish. When they were small, we had them in a standard 55-gallon aquarium that came equipped with the 8000K Aqueon bulbs. The tank had a dark navy blue background. The Aqueon 8000K bulbs were perfect for the combinations of colors in the fish (orange, brown, blue, silver, and white) as well as the dark solid color background. In fact, the colors of these fish were pleasingly vivid under this light.

After a year, the fish were getting too large for the 55-gallon tank, so we moved to a 120-gallon. I purchased a custom-made hood with a pair of HO T5 bulbs, one at 6500K, the other at 10,000K, because an 8000K bulb was not available in a T5. The T5 bulbs were extremely bright and lit the tank to the point I thought I'd have to buy sunglasses for the fish. Algae growth increased dramatically. The new lights also imparted a greenish cast to the navy blue background. And, the HO ballasts emitted a lot of heat.

I purchased a different hood that held a pair of T8 bulbs, trying several different combinations from ZooMed. It was amasing how slightly different C/T bulbs affected the colors of the fish, gravel, and background. Bulbs at 6500K literally turned the fishes' colors from vivid to very washed-out. I ultimately went back to the Aqueon 8000K bulb for the main light, and used a Zoo Med Coral Sun Actinic 420 Coral Bulb T8 32 Watts, 48-Inch in the second slot. Together, the 8K Aqueon and the Coral Sun Actinic 420 provide a very pleasing level of color and intensity of light to the 120-gallon tank. At night, shutting off the Aqueon and leaving the Coral Sun Actinic on by itself, lends a cool "moonlight glow" to the tank.

From my experience, I've learned that manufacturer's stated color/temperature ratings can vary quite a bit. Finding a bulb (or bulbs) that provide a pleasing level of color and intensity may require some trial and error.

If you have a tank with live plants, the Aqueon 8000K bulb may not provide the correct spectrum or intensity of light. We had a few plants in our tank, but the fish ate them almost as fast as we could replace them, so I can't report on how well the Aqueon bulbs will support a planted tank. YMMV.

Finally, we have been using the Aqueon 8000K bulbs in our tanks for over two years. We've never had a failure or problem with them.

Installed first week of May this year burned out today 8 Sept this year. Bought another don't tell me why.

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 10" Medium

Lee's Ultra GravelVac, Self-Start with Nozzle & Hose Clip - 10' MediumThis product VERY well cleans the gunk from the gravel. I have medium river rock and it works fabulously! Couldn't live without it! This is a rather large product good for 50 or more gallon tanks as it drains water rather quickly. If you have a smaller tank, choose the equivalent product in the small size. Your fish will thank you.

This is a pretty standard gravel vac. Yes, it does have the extra wide head (in the shape of flattened hose, so its wide width-wise, but narrow height-wise), and that does let you get into spots that you otherwise would not be able to reach. I have been using this with a 55 gallon and a 29 gallon tank. The medium size seems to work well.

This gravel vac also comes with a nice clip, so you can attach the clip to the bucket that the water is going into and not have to worry about the hose popping up while you are reaching around the tank. If you've ever had a hose come out of the bucket and spray water over the floor while you're cleaning a tank, you will recognize how nice a feature this is.

Here's how you get it to work:

1) Get the water bucket ready and hold the large side of the tube in one hand and the thin end of the tube in another hand.

2) Submerge the large end in the fish tank so that the tube fills up with water.

3) Put your finger on the end of the narrow side of the tube.

4) Raise the fat side of the tube up out of the aquarium just a bit as you let a little bit of air out of the tube from the skinny end with your finger. The action is just like letting a wee bit of air out of something inflatable.

5) As you raise the fat end and let a bit of air out of the skinny end, you will see the water move through the tube. Do this until the water is right at the skinny end of the tube, almost touching your finger.

6) By now, much of the water in the fat end will have moved into the tubing. So submerge the fat end into the aquarium again, filling up the whole chamber.

7) Let the water bubbles in the tubing clear out.

8) Now put the skinny end into the bucket (keep that finger on), and submerge the fat end in the fish tank.

9) Remove your finger from the skinny end and the water will spurt out. Viola your gravel vac is sucking up water.

A gravel vac is an essential fish-keeping item, and this is a good one. Get it.

API CO2 Booster, 16-Ounce

API CO2 Booster, 16-OunceThis does work...not as well as pressure or DIY systems but it makes a difference and is cheap and easy to use. Nice side effect is it helps get rid of some algaes like hair and black beard. Just remember not to overdose as it can kill your fish and it can be hard on some plants. I had a some cryps that seemed to grow fast but then the leaves would quickly decay. Ludiwigs, boca, ratolla all did well...may vals also did fine.

The CO2 Booster from API created a noticeable difference with the bamboo plants and ferns in my 20 gallon aquarium. They are now greener and healthier looking. Komodo Kricket Keeper

Lee's Kricket Keeper, SmallI have this cricket keeper, have used it for years and love it! I didn't have crickets escaping at first, so when it first happened I thought that they had escaped between the plastic bag and the keeper itself. I finally realized that some were escaping through the tiny square hole just above each of the tubes. The holes are so small that you wouldn't think the crickets could squeeze through, but they do. I solved the problem by putting a small piece of scotch tape over each one of these small holes. It doesn't hurt the crickets at all; as a matter of fact, they now last longer, due to the fact that none are escaping! There are apparently no toxic fumes from the tape, they still have plenty of air, etc., etc. This is one of the most useful "critter" keepers I have ever had.

I've owned several cricket-keeping devices and to date this is my favorite. Although I have several reptiles ranging from Leopard Geckos to a Box Turtle, I don't buy very many crickets. This is a great product for keeping 1-2 dozen medium or large crickets. So if you're feeding 6 or 7 reptiles, this is NOT for you!

The problem: If I put any more than 1 or 2 dozen in, they escape. I don't know how, but I don't have a problem with "escapees" if I keep less than 2 dozen. I still deal with the occasional escape artist though, but consider the fact that you are keeping insects in your house and there are bound to be at least a few running loose in your house anyway.

The Kricket Keeper is easy to clean (especially when you line it with a small clear plastic bag), easy to access for feeding/watering, and easy to get the crickets out with the wand. A great "starter" cricket housing item, or for those of us who use very few crickets and only feed them as a treat!

I have various sizes of Lee's Cricket Keeper's and they don't even come close to the quality of the Exo Terra Cricket Pen's

Both have the same Removable ventilated lid, however Lee's (feeder) tubes slide into the lid rather then the body of the Keeper like Exo's does. A BIG minus.

Both have "Cricket dispensers" Lee's is round while Exo's is square, no biggie.

Here are the BIG differences:

Lee's has these "Lame" round flaps that (suppose) to cover the tube opening when pulled out and almost all of the time they (flaps) fall off!

The Exo Terra Cricket Pen has a drop down "Flapper door" built into the the inside of the pen's sides (not the lid) that will never fail.

Simply slide the tube out of the Exo Terra Cricket Pen and the flapper drops down automatically to prevent escapes and easily reopens when the tubes are reinserted.

The Exo Includes a cricket food tray and water bowl tray with tapered steps (that includes a sponge to retain water) held in place by the (inserted) square tubes that keep the trays from sliding around. They can easily be removed for refilling and cleaning. A very nice touch!

At the time of this review both are eligible for "Prime" with the Exo costing ONLY 22 cents more!

Plus the Exo has a nice shinny Black cover.

I removed the sponge from the water tray and fill it with Fluker's Cricket Quencher

I bought this item to house my crickets for my hungry beardies and panther chameleon. Unfortunately though crickets CAN and DO escape from this item. My son was wondering what was crawling on him in the middle of the night and we discovered crickets all over his room. I tried placing the cricket keeper in the bathtub and sure enough when I returned later there were crickets in the tub that had escaped (and yes the lid was snapped tight and the two tubes had their covers on them). Now I have to keep the keeper tied up in plastic bags when crickets are inside until I can find another cricket keeper. So unless you want to be a Kricket Wrangler .....

I bought the Kricket Keeper to hold crickets for a juvenile leopard gecko. It did a fair job. I had read about the escapes, we might have had one small cricket escape through the small square holes above the tubes, but we're not sure. Once the gecko grew a bit and could eat the larger crickets that was not a problem anymore.

The part I'm unhappy with is that the clear plastic covers used to cap the black tubes break relatively quickly. We would take the caps off to clean the tubes when we cleaned the keeper. After a few cleaning cycles the caps would crack in half. They give you a few extra caps to use as "dishes", but instead I just used them as replacements as the caps broke. Eventually we just used clear plastic wrap and rubber bands to cover the tubes. The Kricket keeper once fell from the chest of drawers it was on and the clear plastic container cracked (no crickets were in it at the time, we had just finished feeding the last ones to the gecko). The good news is that the container it is a standard size, so I was able to buy a replacement base for a small amount of money.

As the gecko grew we needed a larger keeper to reduce the number of trips to the store. We picked up the Exo Terra cricket pen, Large. I couldn't find it on Amazon, so I ordered it from another online retailer. That one works better, no small hole above the tube to escape from, and the caps are a more flexible plastic which have not broken yet (much longer that it took the Lee's caps to break). I'm not sure how Lee's Kricket Keeper was able to become so ubiquitous (petsmart, petco, amazon), the Exo terro cricket pens are better products. I just wish it were easier to find them. But I guess is doesn't matter for us as we have all the cricket holding pens we need for now.
