Marina Naturals Malaysian 1/2 Log Driftwood with Plants - Large

Marina Naturals Malaysian 1/2 Log Driftwood with Plants - LargeIt looks very natural and my fish like hiding in it. Price was reasonable and I received the product quickly.

This arrived broken, and I would have still used it, because it still stood up, but it was very sharp and I didn't want to chance my fish getting cut from it.

I opened the box and it was shattered. Hardly any bubble packaging. I had to return it. Pretty disappointed. It says large, but not nearly large enough for what I needed. I suppose in all fairness if the merchant had packaged it correctly, and it wasn't shattered, then maybe it would make a nice little log for a small fish tank. It just didn't serve my purpose.

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Medium Rectangle w/Lid, Label

Lee's Kritter Keeper, Medium Rectangle w/Lid, LabelThis size kritter keeper holds about three gallons of water. I've found it makes a good hospital tank for ill fish. Its the perfect size so dispensing medications is more cost effective. Plus, you can route in a penn plax smallworld filter (minus carbon, because that takes medication out of the water). Sick fish need aeration, and it works in this small tank.

Never, ever make this kritter keeper a home for goldfish. Contrary to popular belief, goldfish need lots of water to make up for the massive amount of waste they produce. This size would be alright for a betta (who should never have less than a gallon of water, again, contrary to popular belief), maybe a trio of guppies if you have a filter.

This kritter keeper is great, as long as you know how to properly use it.

I recommend this product for keeping pets that don't gnaw or chew like crickets, small tarantulas, hermit crabs and ,my favorite, walking sticks. I am using the 8 Kritter Keepers I bought to start rare seeds indoors in pots. The clear door between the carry handles allows me to see from the top how my seedlings are doing and work inside the Kritter Keeper. The lids come in 6 colors all of which are bright and cheery. When not in use they can be cleaned and stacked together. I love my Kritter Keepers!

I recently bought a second crowntail Betta named Osiris as a next door neighbor for my red veiltail Betta Anubis. At the time, I only had a half gallon bowl to house Osiris. I knew it was only going to be a temporary home for Osiris. As a Betta lover, I would never house my fish in anything less than a gallon permanently. Unfortunately I do not have that much room in my tiny one bedroom apartment myself so I thought the medium Kritter Keeper would be ideal for Osiris. With the addition of blue gravel and a few plastic plants, my Betta is now thriving in his new home. He has lots of room to swim around which is a vast improvement from that dinky plastic bowl I had kept him in, or the plastic cup he was in at the pet store where I bought him. As for changing his water, I never pick up the tank by the handle. It is best to carry it by the tank itself. As someone who lives by herself in a small one bedroom apartment with not a lot of surface space with two male Bettas, I certainly can recommend the Kritter Keeper for people in similiar situations who owns Bettas. Osiris loves his new home. He has already blown a bubble nest in it.

I have owned similar items over many years. These are very expensive where I live and I was happy to find them on Amazon.com for a reasonable price with free shipping. For those unhappy with the cover colors, it does say in the description that colors are "assorted." These are plastic, so one has to take care that they are not dropped or scratched with hard objects. Also the handles are not meant for heavy lifting; these can be easily lifted from their bottoms without the stretch and distortion common to thin-walled plastic containers.

That being said, I received two of these and both have stood up well. The bases are sturdy, despite being filled with water for my bettas. The covers securely snap to the bases. The central opening also snaps securely. I have owned other brands of kritter keepers and the central openings were not secure so that I had to place a heavy objects on the tops to keep my critters from escaping.

My bettas enjoy the space. It's true that bettas can be kept in small containers but they become lethargic and depressed. I "upsized" their swimming area, added a few more floating plants (alas, plastic ones), and they've come to life. I've been rewarded with bettas that swim and strut their glorious fins and colors.

Although the dimensions say 11.9 x 7.8 x 8.1 inches, the dimensions of the actual plastic tank (not including the cover) are 11 x 6.5 x 6 inches. This is equal to 1.85 gallons. I was expecting a tank that could hold around 3 gallons because I foolishly used the dimensions listed here. I noticed that my tank could hold less than 2 gallons when I was doing a water change and noticed I had only siphoned out 1 gallon of water and the water level was under the halfway point in the tank. Other than that this is a pretty good tank if used temporarily for a sick fish, like I am doing.

Zoo Med Stainless Steel Feeding Tongs, 10-Inch

Zoo Med Stainless Steel Feeding Tongs, 10-Inchi have no small creatures but these tongs are great for a lot of other uses...cleaning articles dropped in drains, finding and removing small items from odd spaces and anytime you need help getting stuff from crevices ie dropped pills, beads, etc...i even used it to remove some stuck paper in my printer...i bought some as gifts for some of my senior citizen friends so useful!!!

I use these to target feed some creatures in my pico tank. After a week of use they show signs of rust. Now I'm having to look into painting or powder coating them. Other than that they work great.

The tongs are pretty great, our baby corn snake snapped up his pinkie in an instant. Great idea so I don't have to use kitchen tongs then sterilize them. I have ran it through the dishwasher twice though, and it is showing signs of rust at the top. Otherwise, I would have given it five stars.

Finnex Ray2 Aquarium Day/Actinic LED Light, 24-Inch

Finnex Ray2 Aquarium Day/Actinic LED Light, 24-InchVery satisfy with the amount of light this gives off in my 20 gallon tank. This was a replacement for the Eclipse II hood, since the hoods light died on me within 3 weeks of having it. My plants (mostly low light plants) are doing very well in the new set up. The light will get warm after being on for a while, but will not burn your hands. I'm able to move with bare hands without much trouble. I've only had this for a few weeks, so lets hope it keeps on going strong :-).

Very nice light and well made. Excellent light output for my 30 gallon reef tank. The only complaint/wish is that it should have separate on off switches for the actinic and the 10k light strip, and a longer cord. Other than that, very nice!

biOrb Ceramic Media - 2 lb. Bag

biOrb Ceramic Media - 2 lb. BagThis ceramic media is attractive and allows easy water flow for the biOrb filter. It supposedly allows bacteria to grow and maintain water quality and clarity but I didn't see this. It is quite expensive but appears to be very durable so it will last quite a while.

these rocks paired with stress zyme have totally cleared up my new betta tank. I thought i would never get it to be completely clear. But very glad this worked out for me and my fish!

I had bought some of this product years ago and use it in my canister filter for my freshwater aquarium. It hasn't broken down so I continue to use it. I love the look of it as it looks like saltwater live rock (but is a lot lighter kinda like lava rock). Biologically it probably works about as good as ceramic noodles or similar. I add bacteria every once in awhile to keep up the growth levels.

Penn Plax Radius Curved Corner Glass Aquarium Kit, 5 gallons

Penn Plax Radius Curved Corner Glass Aquarium Kit, 5 gallonsI purchased this aquarium kit as an upgrade from my Betta's bowl. The aquarium itself is a decent, rimless glass tank for the price. A nice little extra is the mat cut to the tank's footprint that comes in the kit. The hinged top is a piece of plastic so that it is unbreakable--which is good since the hinges come apart frequently with use. There is a tiny submersible filter that does work quietly and can contain sponge, carbon or ceramic media.

The light that comes with the kit is nearly unuseable. It is a mere 0.6 watt LED which is barely enough for a 'moon light'. The really annoying thing is there is no on/off switch and you have to plug and unplug the lamp to operate it.

For about $64.00 shipped, this works as an upgrade for the Betta bowl, but is definitely not suitable for maintaining live plants. If it were not a definite shipping expense to return, I would send it back and save the cash for a better setup.

Glo Moon Rock Cave By Underwater Galleries - 6 Pack

Glo Moon Rock Cave By Underwater Galleries - 6 PackI bought what i thought was a 6 pack of cave rocks but there was only one in the package. Not as advertised but cool little cave

I actually got it from Walmart after this product became available on amazon.

Pros:

The right size for 10 Gallons and up tanks.

Very bright and glow color in day time and aquarium lights.

relatively inexpensive to add accents to my aquarium.

Cons:

No fish wants to hide in the cave, they hide behind it but not in it.

Unlike most of the green color glow items, its relflective glow with lights instead of glow itshelf strongly without lights.

In conclusion, I wont regret buying it, its a decent deal and unique.

This product is very overpriced, it should really be 20 dollars at most (for all 6). Yes it does glow, it gives off a gentle green glow. I will admit it looks pretty well made for what I paid for it.

My albino Cory catfish enjoy hiding inside it. My ghost shrimp hides in it too. Or at least I think it does.

As with most glow in the dark items the cave reflects light from around it, so it won't glow unless light it around it. Also, the cave is lumpy (which is cool) but it has some relatively sharp points.

-editApril 13th; cave is still glowing well, my albino cory catfish (corydoras) love hiding in it. I would really recommend it for them. But save your money, get it from walmart.

(note: once it gets dirty with algae and so on, it doesn't come totally clean, but I personally see nothing wrong with that)

Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center

Coralife 01692 Digital Power CenterThey claim it to have 7 settings. Well it only runs on one 24 clock.. So either you have your daylight lights on or you nighttime lights.. You plus daylight plug into yellow and actinic/nightime into blue plus.. You set the timer for whatever time you want the white lights to run.. then the other nightime lights come on for the remainder of the time until its time for the whites to turn on again.

I bought this thinking i could program my daylights to come on at a certain time and then later in the day having my blue lights come on but nope.. doesnt work that way.. You can set it for different times of the week but thats it.. you cant have several times each day.. it was disappointing.. i finally got this answer from Coralife/Central who made this.

i'm returning my unit as i do not want a timer that runs 24 hours a day. dont make the mistake of buying this and thinking you can program different times. It runs 24/7 on one clock only.

This has an internal battery to keep the settings when the power goes out but that doesn't work too well so I plugged it into a battery back up and since then I have had no problems with it. I like this one better than the dial ones because there is no dial to hear clicking around.

Buy Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center Now

Setup of the unit is fairly easy. If you have set a digital clock then this should be a breeze. My only concern is after returning the first unit which I thought to be defective I discovered that you 1 should let the unit cycle without having your timed items plugged in to let the internal clock sync with the digital clock. Example if you purchased the unit and set it up in the evening before you wanted the lights off telling it to turn on at say 8:00am and off in the evening at say 8:00. The internal clock will still be turned off even though you told it to turn on during this time. The next day at 8:00am the unit will turn on the lights, and will operate normally.

My other problem with this unit is on both units if the main power switch is on when you plug in or unplug items, such as power heads or the like, the sudden pull will short the clock out and reset all of your settings and the time as well. So if you needed to unplug a power head filter for some reason you will need to turn off the main switch to do so. Otherwise you will loose all of your settings.

Other than these two complaints the unit works fairly well and for me at least is worth the hassle to have such a compact unit.

Read Best Reviews of Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center Here

I agree with an earlier post about the Battery Back-up being buggy. I bought one in late-Dec (it's now March 1) and it seems to just "lose" it's program for no apparent reason. The first time was while I was on vacation and all of my corals were left in the dark for several days (with one fatality). It's happened 2 or 3 times since then. We've not had any power-outages AND I've replaced the batteries in the unit just to play it safe. It still loses it's program arbitrarily. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an automatic light-timer!

I've emailed the manufacturer but no response :-(

Now I'm looking for a manual/dial-type of timer that (hopefully) I can rely on! I think I'll stay away from Coralife though.

Want Coralife 01692 Digital Power Center Discount?

All-in-all a wonderful unit and easy to program. Two pairs of outlets connected to separate timers and four continuously powered outlets. I use one daytime plug for my metal halide bulb and the other for a circulation powerhead. The nighttime plugs are set up for my moonlight LEDs and another, lower-flow powerhead. You can use the remaining four outlets for normal maintenance equipment(i.e. chiller unit, heater, air pump, UV filter, etc).

The only negative aspect of this unit (as well as many others) is the plug spacing when using transformer plugs (LEDs). I would have gladly given up a bit of space in my cabinet for two timed outlets spaced farther apart.

Glo T5 HO Linear Fluorescent Lighting System Single

Hagen Glo T5 Ho Linear Fluorescent Lighting System, Single, 24-InchI had problems with too little light on my 20 gallon high tank. The stock hood only allowed for 15 watts of regular flourescent light which was barely enough even for low light plants. I bought this as an upgrade to the stock lighting and this has been a great choice. It is affordable, solidly built, and is a great choice for a medium/low range planted tank (more to the medium range). Being only 24 watts I was quite worried that it may be insufficient, but the T5HO system really puts out a lot of light! The plants in my 20H tank have shown increased growth and better coloration. When you buy this make sure to pick up a bulb and a timer for convenience. You can skip the timer if you really want but then you will have to unplug/depower it at night or when you want the light off (it does not have an on/off switch!). I recomend the Sylvania analog timer for this one. It allows you to run it on an accurate and dependable schedule and if you just want to turn it on or off you can just push the switch to on(untimed) or off and not ruin your preset (timed) schedule.

But this item to me is very expensive. Got a good price vs pet stores, however. Hope it lasts $70 worth.

Buy Glo T5 HO Linear Fluorescent Lighting System Single Now

The housing for this is awesome and exactly what I needed. Five stars!

This was delivered in a box possibly five times larger than it needed to be with nothing but two pieces of paper for protection. The Amazon box it was shipped in was beat up and a flap was open on one end. When I opened up the box to get to my lamp I was disheartened to see that the box the light set was in was also beat up and opened. Thankfully everything was sturdy enough to handle the beating it very obviously took except the bulb. It of course was busted and there was tiny shards of glass everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

The product is great the delivery was horrible. So four stars! Buy this bad boy if you're in the market but be wary of the packaging. Hopefully they'll step up their game and get it right so this won't be an issue for anyone else!

*Update:

I was recently informed by the retailer of this item being listed on Amazon.com, that they had the incorrect pricing for the Hagen GLO T-5 24" single lighting fixture.

Specifically, the Website listed a value pack for $43.35,

which was supposed to include two Hagen GLO T-5 24" X 24 watt lighting fixtures. However, FancyPants.com, the retailer selling this product, stated that they had made a mistake in regard to the listing for this product, and that the $43.35 was for a single GLO T-5 24" fixture not two of these fixtures.

For my inconvenience, they split the cost of what I would have paid for each light in the value pack ($21.68 each) vs the $43.35 price for one of these lights. The difference came to about $10, so even though I did not get these lights for $21.68 each, I did purchase the one light for about $31 + shipping, which is still an excellent value, when one considers that most of the retailers who sell this particular Hagen GLO fixture, sell it for at least $80 without the bulb.

Earlier...

After purchasing a GLO 24" X 24 watt lighting fixture for $51.30, including the shipping cost, I recently purchased a value pack from the same seller on Amazon.com, which included two Hagen GLO 24" X 24 watt single fixtures for $51.30 delivered.

The same price that I paid for just one of these light fixtures a month and half earlier.

This works out to $21.68 per light fixure, or about 25% of what these lights each usually retail for.

So if you are in the market for a linear T-5 lighting system that is well made, aesthically pleasing to the eye and very useful in growing all types of aquatic plants, the Hagen T-5 lights should be on your shortlist.

Earlier...

Since getting back into the fishkeeping hobby three and a half years ago after a 22 year hiatus I have setup several aquariums. At the time that I was starting my first aquarium, the Hagen GLO T-5 lighting systems had only been on the market few a few months.

As with all of the components that I would end up purchasing, I researched them before making these purchases.

The articles that I had read on T-5 were very positive, so I decided to research the different manufacturers of T-5 linear fluorescent light fixtures, and found that the Hagen GLO series were receiving many positive reviews.

The fixtures were described as being well constructed with durable ballasts and very bright light, due to the polished reflectors Hagen includes with its GLO units, while being competitively priced.

I purchased my first Hagen GLO T-5 in the fall of 2009.

I was so pleased with it that I have since purchased four additional GLO fixtures for my planted aquaria; including the most recent addition a single 24" 24 watt GLO T-5 fixture being sold at a closeout price of $43.99. This is about $40 less than this particular fixture usually sells for, so I bought it for a Pandy Cory tank that I was in the process of setting up.

The GLO T-5 lights really do an excellent job of growing all types of aquatic plants, including carpeting plants such as baby tears, microsword and dwarf hairgrass.

These are durable lighting systems that only require a cleaning every few months to operate at their best. Every three months or so, I will unplug the GLO fixture that I am cleaning, remove its bulb(s) and then proceed to clean it with a solution of one part vinegar to three parts water. I also clean the bulbs with this solution, then dry them before reinstalling them in the fixture.

The water/vinegar solution works very well at removing any minerals that have hardened on the fixture, so that its reflective surface remains clear. It is this highly polished reflective surface which allows for a greater amount of light to reach your plants.

I have noticed that some pet stores no longer carry the Hagen GLO fixtures, including Drs. Foster And Smith. I can only conclude that these retailers are investing in lighting systems that employ the use of LED bulbs, because of their long life.

However, having recently purchased an LED fixture for a ghost shrimp tank that I had started at the same time as the Panda Cory tank, I find that there is a lot more value in my T-5 fixtures than there is this particular LED fixture.

The fixture works well enough, however, it does not provide enough light to grow plants that require moderate to high light. And at about $119 retail (I got mine for less), one could purchase two Hagen GLO T-5 24" 24 watt single lights, and have enough money left over to purchase T-5 bulbs for each of these fixtures.

In addition, the GLO lights are better constructed.

And LED fixtures in general, tend to be more expensive than their T-5 counterparts, for a similar amount of power.

Moreover, quality control issues with some LED fixtures have been reported by a number of consumers.

The main purpose of purchasing LED fixtures is that they are supposed to be more efficient than other forms of aquatic lighting, and purported to last much longer.

However, a number of consumers have reported that some of the LED bulbs in their fixtures failed prematurely, oftentimes just after the warranty had expired.

As a result, they were left with a light fixture that could not be repaired, and forced to invest in a new fixture. Of course, many other LED users have had much better experiences with their lighting systems.

As for the Hagen GLO T-5 fixtures, they are well built, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and do an excellent job of providing light for one's plants.

The fact that they are often heavily discounted because of the new LED lighting craze only adds to their allure. So if you decide that a Hagen GLO T-5 fixture is for you, shop around for the best deal. You may end up saving 50% or more.

Highly recommended!

Impeller Assembly for H.O.T. Magnum Canister Filter - Blue

Impeller Assembly for H.O.T. Magnum Canister Filter - BlueAfter 10 years of service my filter pooped out. After investigating the problem noticed that the impeller was just worn out. Replace it with a new one and she lives again to clean another day. Fish are happy and I'm happy. Love amazon and prime.

My Marineland 'H.O.T. Magnum' canister filter began making noise and working intermittently. (No complaints, since I've had it in near constant service for over ten years.)

After disassembling it, I discovered that the small bearing at the magnet end of the impeller shaft had detached.

Found this replacement part here, after flinching at the forty dollar price my local pet store wants for the same item. Purchased it here for less than half of that amount, including shipping.

It's an exact fit (although my original impeller was orange, not blue), and my trusty aquarium filter is once again silent, and working like new.

Good ol' Amazon.com to the rescue again !

Fluval Shrimp Mineral Supplement

Fluval Shrimp Mineral Supplement, 4-OunceAs an avid fish keeper of both fresh and saltwater tanks I have learned over the years to only trust RO/DI water as my base water. However, shrimp require certain parameters to flourish which are unattainable in RO/DI. The instructions on the bottle are a little vague so I simply use my TDS meter to take the water to around 190-210 TDS for water changes (About 2.5ml per gallon). My Crystal Red shrimp SS+ grade are currently loving the water! Will update once the breed!

I think this product just hardens the water, but it does so effectively. The instructions say how much to put in, but they don't say how much per quantity of water... so you'll want to do some tests before subjecting your shrimp to the recommended dosage. Hope that helps. Good luck with your shrimp.

JBJ 3 Gallon Picotope Curved Glass Aquarium

JBJ 3 Gallon Picotope Curved Glass AquariumI had my eye on this little aquarium for a while, and am happy I got it. The filter provided is very flimsy, but it is quiet and provides a very gentle flow, which is great if you're keeping fish who dislike a strong current, particularly in such a small space. The media inside the filter is quality, and there is a modest amount of flow adjustment allowed on the intake valve. The size of the tank is perfect for fry or other tiny fish or invertebrates. On first blush it seems like a great tank for a betta, but this is an open-top tank and bettas are known jumpers.

The real value in this set, though, is not the filter or the light (which is perfectly adequate), but the aquarium itself -The glass is very solid, heavy, and exceptionally clear. The bottom is beveled for beauty and stability. The buying price is worth it just for the tank itself. Pershnickity aquarists will find it worth the time and money changing out the filter and/or light for something better, because the aquarium itself is true quality.

I'm into nano-reef aquariums. This is a great tank to get started! It's a popular tank for the hobby and there is lots of info is out there specifically for it. Looks nice and clean on a desk. Though, as with any tank, you will need to add a few parts. I added a modified AquaClear70, a MiniJet404 powerhead, and a Current Satellite 18W light, and a Hydor 25W heater. I strongly recommend this aquarium for anyone wanting to cultivate beautiful corals, but not interested in fish. You can really only do one small SW fish with this tank (I'm not planning to). Though there is plenty of room for a few other invertebrates.

Buy JBJ 3 Gallon Picotope Curved Glass Aquarium Now

First off, I have to agree with the previous poster. The end of the filter nozzle can slip off easily and can literally siphon small fish into the filter. I would recommend possibly using a rubber band or some way to make them stay attached more sturdily, or possibly some aquarium safe silicone.

With that being said I also had a problem with one of the filters. I purchased four of these tanks for my bettas and one of the filters has a slow leak in the back. It is so slow I didn't realize it until the next day after having set these tanks up. It has caused water damage to my furniture. I specifically purchased a new book shelf to house these tanks and the shelf hasn't even been in my home for 72 hours and it now has water damage. I can accept this since it is toward the back up against the wall but here's the thing.....

I called JBJ Lighting and left a message which they did NOT return. I called them again and they wanted me to jump through all these hoops in order to show proof of my purchase. I spent over $160 on their products. I feel they should help me out a bit without me having to do so much work.

In any event, I called Doctors Foster and Smith (the vendor from which I purchased my tanks) and they are doing the work for me and have assured me they will take care of the filter replacement. I'm relieved and grateful and I highly recommend Doctors Foster and Smith. I have done business with them in the past and they have always taken good care of me.

I'm only giving the company JBJ Lighting 2 stars (because of how they handled me)but the tank itself with no problems would be worthy of at least 4 stars. My bettas seem quite happy in their new homes. The other disadvantage is they only have a 6 month warranty on these tanks. That's really a brief amount of time. Other companies offer at least a year's worth. In the future I will be hesitant to purchase items from JBJ Transworld Aquatic Ent., Inc. I do not appreciate their lack of putting the customer first.

Sept 21st ***UPDATE***

JBJ finally sent me a replacement filter. They sort of took their time. Now I am having problems with the impellers getting clogged with the charcoal medium that is breaking down. I decided to unplug and rinse everything out and the bag of charcoal is literally crumbling and making a mess everywhere. I've only had them working for roughly 3 weeks.

The one thing I noticed is that the impeller screws in from the bottom and can be disconnected from the body of the filter. This is design is INSANE! It's like having a bathroom sink hanging over the sides of the tank with a drain clog in place to prevent the water from seeping out. In time rubber breaks down and it WILL be a problem eventually. This i why one of my filters leaked from the get go.

These tanks are going back. Companies that pay no attention to quality are souring my desire to be an aquarist. I'd give them one star if I could but I can't change my initial 2 star rating.

Just received this tank today. In all honesty it was a great purchase. To get the tank, light, and a filter for 40(ish). Is a great deal. The glass is almost flawless as well as the seals. I honestly have no cons about the tank itself or anything else.

For those skeptical I was there too.

The tank itself is actually a decent size and everything works just fine.

Loving Pets Pure Buffalo 6-Inch Braided Bully Stick Dog Treat, 3-Pack

Loving Pets Pure Buffalo 6-Inch Braided Bully Stick Dog Treat, 3-PackI just got this things 2 days ago. My dog has been enjoying chewing them which is good, but they smell so bad. 5 minutes after I had given it to our dog I asked my wife if something smelled bad. We thought the dog has pooped in our living room or something and then realized it is the bully stick.

I guess it does entertain my dog, but it's not worth it if I have to stand that smell all over the apartment and in his breath. I will buy a different product next time.

These Bully Sticks last the longest with my little Mini Schnauzer. Because of the braiding, it take her a long time to make them disappear. Always looking for more.

I order these for my 4 month old puppy. She really enjoys them but they are a bit smelly. They do keep her busy though so they are worth the smell!

I had to order more. She loves these!

Pricey but all twisted bullies seems to be now that they are popular. This product was great and as promised.

I have 2 dogs and only one of my dogs like this bully stick. The disadvantage of this bully stick is the stink smell it has. The odor is so bad that it smells even in the room. Maybe that's why my other dog won't chew this. When my other dog is done chewing this bully stick, his mouth even has the smell of the bully stick. Whew..........STINKY!! The product is okay. It's just the stinky odor.

API GH and KH Test Kit

API GH and KH Test KitI wanted a titration based test for hardness (for better accuracy than the test strip kits) and this was one of the few I found. I checked a local pet store and they didn't have hardness tests at all. The instructions are very clear, explaining the types of hardness and how to conduct the test. I found it very easy to use, except that my water is so hard it was off the scale in the instructions! I think the scale goes up to 12 or 13 drops and I was around 22 before I got the color change. But you can fairly easily extrapolate the scale to higher values.

At first I was a little hesitant to purchase this product because of the reviews, but this is very simple to use. Don't really know whats so difficult about this. Yes the Multi-Language instructions can be a little overwhelming, but just like one of the other reviews said, tear off the language you read and discard the rest. Other then that all you have to do is:

*Fill test tube to the white line

*squeeze ONE drop (only one drop at a time)

*cap and invert several times(Invert several times AFTER EACH drop)

Do this until you get a change of color in the water

for KH-Blue must change to Yellow

for GH-Orange must change to Green

After color change you must refer to the conversion chart on the back of the English part of the instructions

_______________________________________________________

Example: for me I got a color change for both GH & KH after 5 drops

so for me both GH & KH are at 89.5 ppm (parts per million)

Based on the GH table below I have Soft water.

General Hardness Table

0 to 4 dH 0 to 70 ppm Very Soft

4 to 8 dH 70 to 140 ppm Soft

8 to 12 dH 140 to 210 ppm Medium Hard

12 to 18 dH 210 to 320 ppm Fairly Hard

18 to 30 dH 320 to 530 ppm Hard

OK, firstly, there is no "laminated color card" regardless of what the product page says. This is one of those tests where you add drops one-by-one until there is a color change in the test tube. The number of drops indicates the water hardness. Really easy unless you aren't skilled at counting. For my tank water, I had to count all the way to 5.

So, my tap water is incredibly hard, but my crusty shower head already evidences that. My aquarium, however, is just fine. Cool.

I bought this test kit to supplement the test strips that I'd been using. Sometimes you simply lose faith and need a bit of affirmation. This test kit did affirm that the test strips are just fine.

I concur with all other reviews up until the date of this one. One reviewer seemed to give it 3 stars because of the awkwardness of the really long paper instructions. I can agree with this and my resolution was to cut off all languages I don't need! This reduces it by about half. Nothing else to say...it works and is well worth the investment.

You have to be very careful from where you buy. The GH test kit does have expiration dates on them, especially the gh does go bad after a year or so,the carbonate hardness tends to last a little bit longer. When you buy do make sure to look at the expiration dates they are in front of the bottle the last 4 numbers indicating month and year example(0216). There are some other makers that use a solution that does last longer so it depends on what quality you want long term. Hope this helps..........

Jardin Plastic Aquarium Fish Tank Grass Plants Ornament Décor, 2-Piece, Purple

Jardin Plastic Aquarium Fish Tank Grass Plants Ornament Décor, 2-Piece, PurpleItem as described. Looks great. Does attract algae like most plastic deco. The weights at the base help to keep the plants in place without worrying about filling some kind of plastic base with gravel or sand.

I recently decided to try out the Fluval Fresh Fish Aquariums (which I love), and also bought several plant and other decor to decorate it with.

This one was such a surprise for it was unlike any other plastic plant decor for fish tanks I've seen, felt and realized that fish tank plants vary in quality. It not only has a vivid color that stands out in the tank, but it's leaves/petals had an exquisite feel maleable, soft, pliable...it felt like heaven. If you want quality in your aqauriums, Jardin's products will not disappoint. I have a couple other reviews for plants I got from them, and another manufacturer that is close to Jardin's in quality, so look up any reviews I have posted regarding fish tank plant and misc. decor.

I purchased these plants to add color to my fresh water aquarium along with a little bit of height. My initial reaction when opening was that the color was great as described by other reviewers. However I was surprised at how flimsy they were I was expecting the stem of the plant to be more taught/stiff to keep the plant standing upright. They were essentially rolled up in a ball in the packaging. While a bit apprehensive I put them into the aquarium and they stood rather straight once in the water. I suppose I would describe it as the plants have some natural looking sway or hang to them. I ordered two packages of two (4 total) and placed them near a rock creating some great cover for my fish. They love to swim through the opening in the rock and hide out in the cave like cover I have created by spacing out the plants and allowing them to hang in toward the center.

Love these. They look great in our 20 gallon, adds a lot of color. They're pretty tall but they worked out well. Better than expected. :)

I bought some of these and was amazed at how long they are. I had to cut some of it to make it look decent in my turtle tank. The colors are also amazing. It makes my tank look so natural and it adds beauty to it at the same time. What i liked the most was that it did not float everywhere. You just throw it in and it will sink to tje bottom. No rocks or gravel needed. But if you have turtles...you might need some rocks XD MY turtles seem to love this plant. My smallest turtle, Toity, loves to hang on to it and swim around it like every 3 seconds. Really love this product and will be buying more plants in the future :}

Kent Marine Coral-Vite

Kent Marine 00040 Coral-Vite, 8-Ounce BottleLike us, corals and sessile inverts need vitamins. They can't really go around searching for them, so they need to get it from the water. A good reef salt will have micro vitamins, but if you have a lot of livestock, some elements could be depleted. I've found a vitamin supplement like this pays off.

I don't use it nearly as regularly as the bottle recommends. It's difficult to tell what the right amount is for your tank; it takes experience and intuition. I used to just dump a cap or two in whenever I thought about it. I'm trying to get a bit more scientific. I've started testing my Iodine levels. I've found that my iodine does get depleted rather rapidly after water-changes (with new Id-enriched salt). The rate is different than my Calcium or Magnesium levels, as is to be expected. By using Iodine as in indicator for vitamins in general, I'm trying to nail down just how much of this stuff I should be using. But I definitely recommend using it for healthy corals and sessile inverts!

There's nothing like dosing your aquarium with bright blue liquid that reminds you of windshield wiper cleaner. Coral-vite claims to be a product that provides the trace elements to your tank that coral really need to display their best colors, grow, and maintain good health. It does, but it doesn't do it better than other products and in the long run requires more work than alternatives that provide results just as good and in some cases better.

Using a block of Formula 28 (not listed on Amazon but in nearly every aquarium store in the States) will provide all the base nutrients in Coral-vite and it dissolves as needed in the tank. Simply drop in a block of the white chalk like substance and watch it fizz like an alkaseltzer in the water, slowly disappearing over the next week depending on your tanks specific needs. This is a huge boon; unlike Coral-vite which is a liquid dose, you can't overdo it with Formula 28.

Target feeding your coral with a little Liquid Life Cyclop-eeze Whole Freeze-Dried and a phytoplankton dose (such as those made by Kent Marine) with some meaty bits of your coral: oyster eggs, krill, et cetera will provide even better results than Coral-vite in regard to color and growth rate.

While this isn't a bad product, there are much better when it comes to making sure your coral have all their trace nutrients and minerals and it won't provide better growth. In the end it's not going to destroy your tank, and it comes with very helpful directions on the back of the container that we should all be familiar with in handling the life in our aquarium. I would suggest this for a cheap trick, but it won't serve your longterm needs and can actually be very worrying for a person new to saltwater reefkeeping, it's much easier to use too much and if you don't have the right tests you may not know whether you're actually hurting or helping your tank chemistry.

tried it with caution, but after 2 weeks (dose/week) my coralline algae exploded, in growth and color. very impressed. zoas and palys also exploded in growth and improved color as well. impressive!

All Glass Aquarium AAG25820 Inc Strip Light, 20-Inch

All Glass Aquarium AAG25820 Inc Strip Light, 20-InchSome aquarium forums suggested using 2, 13 watt compact florescent bulbs in this fixture for a planted 10 gal tank. It functioned nicely with one exception. As the bulbs heated the plastic housing, it emitted a strong plastic smell that was not pleasant. Plants grew nicely in the aquarium but the smell did not diminish over time. I discarded this light and replaced it with an Aqueon single t8 florescent strip light. some of my plants did not survive the lower wattage light so I had to switch to low light plants. In retrospect this light and the plants with higher lighting requirements ended up being a waste of money. I would not recommend this product for use with compact florescent bulbs over a planted aquarium. Please note the fixture is designed to use low watt incandescent bulbs and woks well with them (no smell). Unfortunately you can not grow live plants under the incandescent bulbs.

This product is advertised as a strip light, but it is actually a dual bulb reflector. A strip light houses a single long tube, the kind that spans the entire width of the light and has two pins on each end of the bulb. This product has a fixture in the middle with two screw-in sockets for a light bulb to be screwed in on the left and right side with a metal reflector mounted above the socket fixture. While this may be useful if you're wanting to have two different kinds of light at once, such as a full spectrum plant bulb and a bulb for heat, this is typically not what people looking at strip lights are wanting.

Buy All Glass Aquarium AAG25820 Inc Strip Light, 20-Inch Now

These striplights to hold the old fashioned bulbs are beginning to fade away and become hard to find, but they're absolutely perfect to use with a pair of five dollar at walmart compact flourescent bulbs from the fish dept. Not only that, the bulbs at Walmart while cheap are an excellent color temperature that I would call "Daylight Plus" it's a pure clean full spectrum white that's a significantly higher color temperature than your average "Daylight" bulb. So, ten bucks for the striplight, ten bucks for the bulbs and I have a light that's wicked awesome for my little planted Tetra tank, and would be equally wicked awesome for a saltwater or even a ten gallon micro-reef tank, those cheap Wal-mart bulbs are that good, and this fixture should be gaining popularity, not loosing, this setup eliminates the ballast and starter that fails in a 20" Flourescent strip-light, it's all in the bulb, and a bulb is only five bucks, not twenty like some stores get for a 20" tube flourescent bulb. I would recommend this to anyone considering this lighting setup. For a small ten gallon reef, I would use two striplights and four bulbs, 40 bucks for a reef lighting system TOTAL, in fact I've been waiting intending to do just that. Highly recommended product

Great price, great quality and a great fit on the 10 gallon tank I will purchase another if needed Thanks

Want All Glass Aquarium AAG25820 Inc Strip Light, 20-Inch Discount?

I suggest using two 7 watt (40 watt equivalent) CFL daylight bulbs (Lowes, Utilitech, Medium Base Daylight 6500K bulbs, $9.02 each, Item # 7741, Model # LBP7T10) for this fixture. THEY WILL NOT CAUSE ANY PLASTIC SMELL (one reviewer tried 13 watt CFL bulbs and experienced this --I'm going to try it with a 13 watt Micro CFL and will post the results). I've been using the 7 watt CFL setup for over a year on three different aquariums --the original bulbs are still working, and most importantly, the plants are still growing. You need to know your lighting requirements --for a small aquarium (i.e., 10 gallon) this will produce a lot of light and you can grow more types of plants. For larger, deeper aquariums, this setup will work fine with plants requiring low light --i.e., Java Ferns, Java Moss, Anubias, etc.. This is NOT a full hood fixture it makes a nice replacement (or supplement it's small, and will fit in front or behind my fluorescent fixture. You can also do what I did for two bow front aquariums buy hood hinges (plastic strips available on Amazon), make a template leaving room for pumps, heater cords, etc. and have a local glass shop custom cut plate glass (cheap) to cover the aquarium as this fixture CAN'T be used directly over water. Research your plants and their lighting requirements there is no reason to leave a bad review when you buy a product that is inexpensive and does what it is supposed to do. I do blame the company for recommending incandescent bulbs they don't work as well as a good CFL T-10 tube.

EDIT: I've used some 13-watt micro-mini CFL's in two of these fixtures for a couple of days now there hasn't been any plastic smell and they don't get particularly hot. The micro-mini CFL's fit entirely within the metal reflector portion. Purchase the "Instant On" variety.

General rule of thumb: Even low-light plants (.e., Java Ferns) need around 1-2 watts of light per gallon some plants as much as 5 watts per gallon. The color of the bulb (measured in Kelvin, or "K") is important. The 6500K of the 7 watt CFL T-10 tube (40 watt equivalent) gives you a nice spectrum for ~ $9. For deeper aquariums, Sylvania makes a 13 watt (60 watt equivalent) CFL mini-micro, sold in a 2 pack for ~ $7/pair that also has a 6500K spectrum. This is low tech, inexpensive lighting, not something to throw on a reef aquarium, but good for a freshwater hobbyist on a budget that wants to add live, growing (vs. dying) plants to the mix.

AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO USE FIXTURE OVER GLASS THE BOTTOM OF THIS FIXTURE IS EXPOSED. If you need a HOOD for a small aquarium that includes one of these fixtures see : http://www.amazon.com/Perfecto-recess-incandescent-hood-black/dp/B0006G59T0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358957478&sr=8-2&keywords=10+GALLON+AQUARIUM+HOOD or buy hinges (available on Amazon).

Petco Variety Pack Plastic Aquarium Plants

Petco Variety Pack Plastic Aquarium PlantsI bought a variety pack at Petco, it's affordable and you get around 3 or 4 plastic plants depending. They are all of varying sizes and my Betta seems to like them. Although they are plastic, my Betta has not had any fins tearing or anything like that.

Note:

I've had these about a month now, and they are beginning to disintegrate and become stringy. My filter catches more of the stringy junk everyday. I'm probably going to have to replace them soon.

I don't know if this happens to all plastic plants. Just thought I'd share.

Beautiful in the tank! Has great color and looks amazing!

It is also slightly weighted which makes placement much easier.

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 1664-Gallon Per Hour

Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 1664-Gallon Per HourI am using this pump on my 90gal Reef/Fish tank.

When moving my previous tank to my new house I used this pump to pump the water from the street (32gal trash cans in the back of my Accord) up 12' to my house. This pump had enough to do it in no time! I also couldn't even tell the pump was on it was so quiet...

Once I installed it in my sump it was a different story... I used hard mounted PVC to the pump and it had a loud hum... Because it had been so quiet before I realized that it would be good to have a softer coupler (vinyl tubing) to isolate the vibration... Once I did that it was VERY QUIET!

Would recommend 100%...

Owned 1 month and it seems like a high quality product.

It broke after using it for about a month as a return on my sump. I had to pay to send it back I didn't like that, they didn't even offer to let me pay them for the rate they get so it was retail shipping for a bad piece of equipment. It's been more than 30 days since I returned it but I haven't received it back. Will NOT get a Lifegard pump again. PS It wasn't any quieter than the mag drive I replaced it with.
