Coralife Energy Savers ACL76004 Water Pump 100gpd Ro Unit
Finding a replacement part that fit was a major hassle as the instructions don't include any sort of part list. Finally I located the part and replaced it. No sooner was that leak fixed than the increased pressure (from no longer leaking) caused another part of the unit to leak. By now the filter is out of warranty and I have to set it up on top of the washing machine so water doesn't go everywhere. Every time I use it, I'm tempted to throw it in the trash. Instruction are not very good. Drawings are fine but don't clearly show things such as which way filter units go into the canisters, or how to set it up for an open reservoir. The instructions need to explain more about how the unit actually works, such as, which valves do what, etc. This information was not available at any of the web sites I could find. This unit does not include enough tubing, or tell where to purchase longer lengths, or what type of tubing to use. I had to purchase more tubing from a local hardware store. It took a lot of research and improvision and I had to buy a special float valve to set up to store water for aquarium use. This unit is advertised as being used for aquarium setups and is sold by aquarium vendors. It should explain how to set up for aquarium use, but, does not. Unit seems to work fine, now, but, I am very disappointed that it took so much effort to set up, and I am an equipment maintenance technician who deals with all sorts of complex equipment and knows how to install highly technical stuff. I would not call this highly technical, but, the instructions give very little help in understanding this piece of equipment and how it works. This unit, for this reason, gets a low rating from me. I purchased this unit because it has a high daily output and uses a pressure pump, which reduces water wastage.

Tetra Water Wonders Aquarium Kit
Before this tank, I had my Betta in a small Marina cube, which only held a half Liter of water. Two weeks later, I decided to upgrade to this kit. After a day of adjustment, my fish really began to enjoy his new home and has since built a bubble nest. The LED can swivel from side to side and adjust up or down, so I like to angle it towards the filter in the back corner. This allows enough light to illuminate the tank nicely, but avoids exposing my Betta to direct bright light when I have it on. The light itself it great. Using LEDs means very little electricity usage, as well as almost no heat output. The switch is located on the side, so it's easily turned on and off. My only complaint is that the light tends to slide down to a certain point when you raise it all the way up. Not a big deal, but something to note.
The filter has kept the water nice and clear so far. It's easily attached anywhere on the tank via two suction cups on the back end. The top lid of the tank has two small holes on either side for the hose, as well as a large hole for easy grabbing. The two holes are great if you'd like to add a small water heater along with your filter. The Whisper 3i does create a fairly noticeable current in a tank this small, something my Betta did not enjoy at first as they prefer still water. After some adjustment of the plants in the tank and raising it a little higher above water level, the current was reduced enough to not really bother him. I've also placed a small hut in the tank where he can hide and get out of the current if he chooses to do so (which I recommend). I would also recommend placing the plants near or around the filter intake, so your fish won't be tempted to swim around it and get pulled by the pump. A Betta is far to large to get stuck, but it can damage his fins if he's pulled to hard.
The plastic plants are very nice looking, but were somewhat on the hard side. I would keep an eye and make sure your fish doesn't injure his fins grazing against them. So far, mine hasn't had any issues, but it's something to take note of, especially for Bettas.
Overall, for the money you won't find a better tank for a small fish or Betta.
UPDATE: 8/10/2010
After about 4 months of owning this tank, the filter pump finally gave out. It's a shame, because it did work very well. While not a big deal if your housing a Betta, this may become problem for other types of fish that aren't labyrinth fish. Tetra does warranty the filter for 1 year after purchase, but you have to send $5.00 for return postage. The whole filter unit can be purchased for $9.95 new at PetSmart, so it really seems kinda pointless, especially if it will continue to crap out after a few months. This tank is perfect for keeping a betta fish. It's roomy enough to decorate nicely so your fish is comfortable and has stuff to do. I was hesitant, as I've only had larger tanks before and worried that this would be too small, but it's just right for my betta fish.
I was worried that the filter might be too strong, based on some reviews here, but my betta has done absolutely fine with the filter on, and the filter does an amazing job at keeping the water clear. I'm able to do a full water change once a month, and the water is STILL crystal clear within that time frame. (But I wouldn't recommend going over a month without giving it a full cleaning, because the gravel traps old food and bacteria. Just an fyi for someone considering this as their first fish tank.)
I really love the LED light at the top of the tank, it looks beautiful at night. The storage space at the bottom is handy as well. I keep extra filter packs, de-chlorinator, and some emergency fish meds in there, just in case.
I'd definitely recommend this to someone looking into getting a betta fish. Many people want these intelligent fish as decorations, which I discourage because they tend to keep the poor things in tiny half gallon bowls. This tank is the right size for a betta to live happily and is visually stunning for the owner as well. It's a win/win!

I bought this locally, and right out of the box, it didn't have the plant grid for the plants that it comes with. Which of course makes the plants all float up the second you try to do anything inside the tank. The filter however is awesome, it has adjustable flow, which is wonderful for a betta or any other fish that prefers little water movement. Keeps my water totally free of ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Condensation on the hood is a CONSTANT eye sore. While the setup has it's downfalls, it's still better by far than any other desktop with the dreaded lone undergravel filter and no lighting, often devoid of a hood altogether. I like that it has a cord cutout for if you want to add a heater or an airstone. The built in drawer is also very handy, but I don't recommend keeping water test strips in it, due to the humidity affecting them. It's good for stashing food and dechlorinator though.Read Best Reviews of Tetra Water Wonders Aquarium Kit Here
I had always wanted a small, but attractive, aquarium for my desk. I came across this one on Amazon and thought, this is it! It works great with African Dwarf Frogs, I bought two and there is plenty of room for them and their plants. The initial investment ran me about $40 total which included food, a small net, the plant, rocks, water conditioner, etc. I did find mine at Petsmart, but there are more colors/sizes and a lot of sale prices through Amazon that were comparable. I loved the light because its made of LEDs and does not get hot. I'm rather paranoid about hot light bulbs and plastic.Want Tetra Water Wonders Aquarium Kit Discount?
I've had this aquarium for about a week and a half, and my betta seems to like it. He builds bubble nests and is very active. I never knew bettas to zip around a tank, which goes to show how much better off they are with some space than in the little prison cells that are among the betta homes pet stores sell. I am only using this 1.5 gallon aquarium because of space limitations, and would recommend a larger one if you have space so your fish will be happier. So far the filter is keeping the water clear, and makes a soft current, which is good since bettas are bothered by strong currents. Time will tell how the filter lasts. I'm hoping it lasts for a while since it seems hard to find filters with a soft enough current to suit bettas (I heard the Azoo Mignon is a good one). The lid has an opening for the top of the filter, and smaller openings on either side, so a micro-heater and cord can be easily accomodated while the lid still fits well. Condensation does build up on the lid, but there seems to be less of it now than there was the first few days. The light can be adjusted up and down, and the LED is nice and bright, making the aquarium pleasing to look at. There is an on/off switch for the light, but the light's power is controlled by the same plug as the filter. So if you want to turn off the filter, you have to un-plug it which turns off the light as well. Therefore if you want to feed your fish and not have the food get carried around by the filter current, he has to eat in the dark. Overall this is an excellent small aquarium for the money. I'm looking at the Aqueon Evolve 2 Gallon for my other betta, which has a wall that conceals the filter, and any heater and cords, and of course gives the fish a little more space. That one may be a good option too if you're willing to spend $47 or so.UPDATE 6/20/12 A few days ago the filter stopped working. I removed it, rinsed it out and replaced the cartridge, and it started working again. It is very slow though. I'm just a novice with aquariums, but I'm wondering if this filter is effective because of how weak it is. If it breaks down, I'll just have to continue changing 2/3 of the water each week to keep it clean. I hope to someday find a filter that has a gentle enough current for bettas. The Azoo filter I previously mentioned is on back-order with Amazon. Because of the filter issue I'm reducing my rating to 4 stars.
UPDATE 7/9/12 Well the filter is failing...If I take out the cartridge and just put it back in, it seems to start up again, but this has to be done at least twice a day. The filter is junk...which is a shame because the aquarium is nicely built with great cutouts in the lid and good LED. But if you want a kit with a decent filter, don't buy this one, unless you're ok replacing the filter or just changing the water every week and not using one. Might as well spend the extra money for a better setup and more space for your fish.

Zoo Med Laboratories AZMFA31 Sinking Poly Resin Aqualog, Large
The log is realistic. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because when I was removing it from the tank for cleaning, I grabbed it by the top opening and my thumb made a whole on the top part of it. It's no big deal as the whole is barely visible, but it should be more resistant in the top. The main log body feels sturdy, but in the inside there are some edges which feel kind of sharp. This doesn't worry me since the only one that enter it is my hoplo, but other fishes like fancy goldfish or bettas might hurt themselves in it. I don't really know why someone would buy a log for their goldfish, but whatever... Just a warning.
It gives my tank a really good look (More natural). If you complement it with some plants and sand, it will look amazing!
I would buy it again if I had to.

Cat Mate Lockable Cat Flap Door Brown 2-way Lock
Buy Cat Mate Lockable Cat Flap Door Brown 2-way Lock Now
Probably hard to believe, but our six month old cat ran through the door and broke it off at the hinges. Martha's Pet Place was very helpful and followed-up promptly to my calls on warranty coverage. They even called ahead to the manufacturer for me to ensure this was covered. The manufacturer is replacing the flap under warranty, so kudos all around for good customer service. Now, back to the door, the only complaint I have is that the install is a little funky for wider doors and requires drilling out the holes in the cat door. Seems like including some longer screws would be easier and a stronger mount to the door. Other than that, the door works fine and does the job. The cats had no problem learning how to use it. My one recommendation would be to add some kind of flag that pops up on the door if it's locked so the cats don't run into it when it's locked. I haven't tried locking mine yet, which is probably a good thing...Read Best Reviews of Cat Mate Lockable Cat Flap Door Brown 2-way Lock Here
We installed this on a hollow core door, it couldn't have been easier (and I am no handy-man!) Just trace the template onto the door, use an electric or manual jig-saw, and you're almost done! Don't be scared by the instructions telling you to drill out some of the holes on the product, just use the drill bit they recommended and all will go smoothly. Cats love this thing, and it keeps the dog out of the basement while still allowing the cats to access their food/litter box. If you are concerned about the size of your cat, our big one is 18 pounds and pretty large, he has no issues fitting through.Want Cat Mate Lockable Cat Flap Door Brown 2-way Lock Discount?
I have had this product for 13 years. It is a problem solver when cats want to go in and out of rooms when the door is closed. Love the brown color that blends with the door and people don't notice it at first glance. Highly recommended. Prefer this one than the 4 way lock. This one you can make it a 4 way by simply locking the switch with the latch either inside or outside and it works better since there is less noise than with the 2 switches that the 4 way has.Tuesday, July 22, 2014
Kordon/Oasis (Novalek) AKD37344 Methylene for Aquarium, 4-Ounce, Blue
For candida treatment: use a medicine dropper to add 2-4 drops maximum to a gallon of distilled water. Best to buy a trusted brand from the store and just drop them in that. Drink 8fl oz (1 cup) every 4-6 hours, depending on the severity of your situation. I recommend drinking 1 cup before bed the first time and seeing how your body seems in the morning.
IMPORTANT! take 500-1000mg of vitamin c each time u drink this. That will prevent any blue coloring side effects. Please search the web for these side effects. I did not experience any issues at all, because i was very cautious in both my knowledge and my dosing.
ALSO: take a multi strain acidophilus probiotic 2 hours after each dose. (Bifidus and lactobacilli -sp?are important parts so make sure it contains these. Yogurt is not enough and its next to impossible to find one with no sugar). Make sure the capsules are coated so they dissolve in your intestines instead if your stomach. MB is a very powerful antimicrobial that will kill all fungus and bacteria in your body, including the beneficial Flora u need in your gut to prevent the toxins from returning. Make sure u continue taking probiotics for at least 2 weeks after u stop the MB, so your natural balance is restored.
I hope this information helps people out there that are like i was a few months ago. Please do not hesitate to ask any question you might have. As i said, I've done lots of research on candida albicans and would be more than happy to share my findings. In fishkeeping this is a trued and true to keep on hand for various disease problems... and becoming difficult to find. Especially the big box chain pet stores, all they want to stock are these really expensive tablets of a mix of stuff you don't need; and the quantity of water you can treat with what you get, is too small. Glad to find it still being made as a separate item. Glad to find it in stock.
It is used as a treatment for fungal infections. It can also be effective in treating fish infected with ich, the parasitic protozoa Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. It is usually used to protect newly laid fish eggs from being infected by fungus or bacteria. This is useful when the hobbyist wants to artificially hatch the fish eggs. Methylene Blue is also very effective when used as part of a "medicated fish bath" for treatment of ammonia, nitrite, and cyanide poisoning as well as for topical and internal treatment of injured or sick fish as a "first response" (as a side note it will stain aquarium tubing, airstones, and tank silicone blue, and kill off your biological filter!)

Lok-Tite® Air Regulator Gang Valves for Aquariums
My air pump is a Rena 400 with two outlets, which works out nicely because this Air Control Valve has two inlets (it comes with a plastic plug for one of the inlets just in case your air pump only has one outlet). I have an undergravel filter which uses four of the ports and a 12" airstone running off the fifth port.
During my initial setup, I had to tweak all four ports to make sure the air coming out of each stone was what I wanted. This valve allowed me to do that well. Since it's plastic and not metal, the fine tuning was a little more difficult. However, this wasn't a big problem, it just took an extra couple of minutes. Once it was set, I haven't had to mess with it again. We'll see what happens when I have to change out my air stones.Lever valves are a bit stiff and hard to regulate. The housing is a bit thick so my hood doesn't close well. It's way too "beefy"

TrueLumen Aquatic 10-Inch 4-453nm Blue LED Strip
I have 28 of these LED lights on my tank so far; so 7 strips. I buy them for around $37-$40. I first saw them being sold locally for over $100(much cheaper online). The lights are 3 Watts each, so each strip is 12 Watts. The blue(453nm) strips make coral glow extremely well. I haven't tried the white, or mixed strips yet; however, I definitely recommend the blue strips.
You will also need 1 power supply, and some 3-way splitters. I have one Truelumen power supply, and 3 Truelumen splitters; been running them since October 2011 with no problems. I have tried several other LED options that are currently on the market, and they were all terrible; most are only 1 watt, or are the wrong color-hue.
In my opinion, there are only two realistic options....either get these and add them to your existing fixture, or save up for a $700+ Ecotech fixture (which you will need two of if you have a 48"+ wide tank).Currently have a 29 gallon BioCube, which comes with a built-in compact fluorescent lighting system. These LED have been a great upgrade for me as I added 3 strips of the Actinic Blue LED's to compliment my CF's. It completely changes the tank! If you want that shimmering effect these LED's will not disappoint. As for the the comment that they burn out, I've had mine for over a year and no burn outs, maybe it was just a bad strip. I have a Dual Timer that keeps all the lighting in my tank controlled for a more consistant amount of light and maximum life expectancy all-around. In short I highly recommend this system if you want to make great LED upgrades with out taking a huge hit to the wallet.

I recently set up a 25 gallon rimless cube tank. I wanted to minimize what was hanging on the outside of the tank so I purchased this Hydor. After a long search it seemed Hydor was the only game in town for a inline heater. Well, it's great! Takes a few minutes to connect and that's it. No leaks, no fluctuations. I have it connected to my Eheim Ecco. Working for a month now in an unheated room and it is dead accurate and does not fluctuate. As some others noted it does make an audible click when it turns on but mine is inside a cabinet so it really is barely noticeable. Less than the click of a pen. And if it wasn't for that I'd have to check to even see if it's on.Great product, stop looking this is it.

Have had the heater for almost a year now, and so far it works great for my 40 gallon tank. Only complaint is that it turns on and off very frequently (about every 2 minutes) with an audible click that can be quite a nuisance. Also, its exquisite sensitivity, which makes it turn on and off so frequently, makes me worry that it might wear out before long.Want Hydor ETH 200 In-Line External Heater 200w 1/2" hose Discount?
I have gone through 3 of these heaters in the last few years. I was attracted to the design, and Hydor is about the only company making inline heaters.Unfortunately I had all three fail. Two failed silently (stopped working, temp dropped on the tank) and the last one failed catastrophically and cooked everything in the tank.
Since I don't want to lose all my fish and shrimp again, I have gone back to the Eheim Ebo Jager in tank heaters. I have never had a problem with them. The only reason I changed was the slick design of the Hydors.

I bought this screen for my corn snake because the screen I was using before was plastic and melted from my heat lamp. I had read great things about zilla screens and they are all true! The screen is very sturdy and fits over the tank almost perfectly, there is a 1/4" gap on one side meaning I either mis-measured my tank, or the screen is actually 20-1/4" but this does not remove the functionality.
There are clips that are made to fit this screen, I have never personally used these clips, but it seems that you would need at least 6-8 to keep the screen completely secure and avoid a snake escape, which would cost more than the screen did! So, I went to the dollar tree, bought 2 packs of velcro, and stuck it on all sides of the tank. Using all of my strength, I couldn't get the screen lifted up without undoing the velcro so I am really confident that my little corn will not escape!
Overall, this is your best option to securing a loose-lid tank, and will guarantee your scaley friend will not escape if set up properly.
