biOrb First Aid Service Kit

biOrb First Aid Service KitWe went on vacation and had a friend feed our fish and we came back and they looked a little sick, some algae growing on them or something so I ordered this and after a week they were looking more lively and the growths went away. Fair warning though, this is only a 2 week service kit, it says you have to change it out after 2 weeks back to a normal filter.

Nature Aquarium Polished Glass Gravel - Blue Glass Gravel 8 oz. Small

Nature Aquarium Polished Glass Gravel - Blue Glass Gravel 8 oz. SmallI purchased this for my 20 gallon tank and it looks beautiful! My African Dwarf Frogs seem to like this better than rough, regular aquarium gravel. It shimmers and looks pretty when the lights are turned on! I've also purchased the red, larger glass gravel for my betta tank and love the colors!

Exactly what I was looking for to add some color to my concrete countertops. I still have to polish the countertops, but so far they look great.

I purchased a bag to display a gorgeous large silvery air plant. It does look dramatic alas, the contents of the bag hardly cover the bottom of the glass bowl. Not enough bang for the buck, in my opinion.

The colors are gorgeous and the quality is great. My crawfish seem to run and dig around their fish bowl alot more. Much better than harsh gravel.

Mars Fishcare 164F 5-in-1 PondCare Test Strips

Mars Fishcare 164F 5-in-1 PondCare Test StripsI bought this and the full bottles, drops, timing complicated, time consuming kit. The results came out the same. for my money, this is so darn easy and a great way to get a quick read. The bottles and drops takes about a half an hour to complete all the tests. I have had koi for about 10 years now but I really haven't taken the time to become really knowledgeable so I'm not sure how valuable my opinion is.

Colormax T8 Lamp

Aqueon Aqueon 00451 24-Inch Colormax T8 Fluorescent Lamp, 17-WattGot this light and it never work. I even bought a new light thinking it was the issue and the light bulb still didn't work. Ended up getting another bulb. Not worth sending back but lesson learned!

After installing my new aquarium light, it lasted a whole 3 days. Installed on Wednesday night, as I walked by my aquarium Sunday morning, I noticed that the light wasn't on. (I have my lights on timers.) I lifted the hood and the light was very hot, and smelled hot as well. It may have just been a faulty light, but my experience wasn't good.

I would NEVER purchase this product again. My original purchase was for four lights, upon arriving I placed a bulb on my aquarium and it did not work. So I checked all the lights to be sure. Two of the four lights worked, so I sent the two lights back. One of the other lights burn out in less then one week. Such a lousy product. Very disappointed.

Jardin Fish Tank 4 Layer Sponge Biochemical Water Corner Filter

Jardin Fish Tank 4 Layer Sponge Biochemical Water Corner FilterSo the description is misleading, though technically perhaps correct. When there is no air flowing through the sponge, it does indeed sink, as advertised. However when you are actually using the sponge the air flow and bubbles is enough to make it float. I tried taping the tube to the side wall or something with no luck, it reallllly wants to float, so I ended up putting it under one of my other decorations to keep it down. I'll likely tie it to a rock or something when the snow thaws and I can go outside and find one.

Aside from that it seems quality, though I can't speak to the longevity as I've only had a few days. For me it's not worth the hassle of returning it to get a different one, but when it needs to be replaced I'll likely not buy the same one.

Have had this running for about two months while hooked to a Tetra Whisper pump for 10gals (also from Amazon excellent pump). Originally, had it in my 20 gallon as a supplemental filter and to keep ammonia/nitrite levels stabilized while I was switching between an HOB filter to a canister filter. Although the pump used for it was not rated for a 20gal I'd like to think it did its job. The shape allows me to tuck it in the back corner behind a plant and it is not visible from the front. There was always debris, fish food, and poop attached to it meaning that it was at least sucking up waste.

About two weeks ago I transferred it a poorly maintained and neglected 5 gallon tank with crabs. After changing the tank the water was still cloudy with algae chunks, exoskeletons, and that white film that comes from stagnant water. Well all the debris eventually got stuck on the surface of the sponge and throughout the day you can see the debris get smaller and smaller as it was broken down by the bacteria I guess. By the next day the water and the sponge was clean as a whistle. It is currently still in my 5 gallon with 2 crabs and about a dozen adolescent guppies and all ammonia/nitrite levels are absolutely fine.

In conclusion this is a good filter overall and an excellent filter for small tanks. I will consider buying more of these for any future small tanks. Also in retrospect there is a 6-layer version that is marginally more expensive but would be better suited for larger tanks with more surface area for bacteria to grow on.

Maxi-Jet Pro Aquarium Pump

Marineland Ml90512 Maxi-Jet 1200 , 295/1300GPHMarineland has come out with this ultra cool powerhead/circulation pump combo. I love powerheads in my tanks because of their efficency in moving water and filtration for a reverse or forward flow undergravel filter/or sponge powerhead combo. It has proven to be ideal in my clown loach tank where I am just using multiple penguin powerheads/sponge combo and have had them alive and thriving for nearly 10 years. When I saw the new Maxijet PRO I just had to give it a try. My clowns love playing in quick water as in nature they are from areas with high water movment-so I decided to buy this for the circulation mode. Other strong circulation filters are three times the price of these and are weaker or equal to the power. I have read many reviews saying they were very loud but I find mine to be very silent considering the power, only a very slight hum can be heard when I am within 3-4 feet. I found that at first when I started it it was really loud, but after a couple of minutes it became almost silent (I think the air had to be purged and propeller locked in, try shaking them a little and putting your hand over the back part where the water gets sucked in to quiet them down when you first get them up and running). Now when I turn them off and on during water changes the initial loud noise is gone and they start up perfectly. If I had saltwater tanks and were using them with a wave maker I probably would worry and instead spend a little more and buy the old maxijets with the aftermarket conversion kits or Hydors. But for my clown loach tank they are perfect, so perfect that I have decided to buy another one! Now, after reading the reveiws I am still worried about the reliability, but after finding out that the loudness is false I feel more secure with these. With a two year warranty like the penguin products I highly doubt they would make the new Maxijet Pro's as bad as some of the reviews have said. If anything, I can still use them as powerheads if the circulation mode fails. I have faith in marineland quality. I would recomend this to people with large tanks or people who keep fishes that love fast moving water! Oh.. and to add I think the black suction cups are great, much better than the crappy clear ones that come with the penguin models which seem to harden and become useless in half a year. I change out the clear ones and use the black suction cups and dont have problems with my powerhead falling anymore. With three of them I feel pretty safe. Maybe saltwater is different and much harder on the suction cups, makes sense since salt water tends to quickly dry out, crack, and corode rubber products...

Update: Since using them for a little while I can see no problems with their reliability and they are solid powerheads like other marineland products. I do however have a little problem with them heating up my tank water. Since I live in a tropical climate my tanks are naturally around 82 to 84 degrees which is warm enough already. I put two in a thirty gallon tank and my tanks temperature skyrocketed to 90 degrees! I have since moved them into my 125 gallon and have no problems with them raising the temperature. Could be great if you live in a colder climate which could save you money on a heater!

Update #2: After using them in circulation mode for a while I have noticed that they have a huge problem creating heat. They give off so much heat that they have even become a problem in my 125 gallon tank. I had to take one off and am now only running one of them. The temperature increase is not noticable with only one of them, but when I try to run two of them it can go up to 88 degrees (normal temperature hovers around 82-84 degrees) in my 125 gallon tank. The reason why I say 88 degrees and not higher is because when I noticed the temperature was that high I took one of them off imediately. Would be great using them in a cooler climate (would take some of the strain off your heater), but here in Hawaii it can be a problem. They are still silent and dont seem like they are anywhere near breaking. The trio of suction cups hold on good and strong. They do make a rather loud clicking/grinding noise when first starting them up (after unplugging them) that makes me think like they might break, but after a few seconds they start up perfectly and do their job very quietly. I think the problem is their large power consumption compared to other circulation powerheads/pumps. I have two Hydor Koralia Evo 1400's that dont even come close to heating the water even in my 30 gallon tank (they also dont make the loud clicking noise when restarting). Still if your looking for a cheap circulation/powerhead and you live in a cool climate, or only want to use one in a large tank, or have a really large tank, they work great. Don't know what happened to other reviewers maxijet pro's but mines are really really quiet, infact over time they have become SILENT. I have to literally put my ear up to the tank where they are mounted to hear anything from them, even then they are still hard to hear (after the restart that is).

I have some old Maxi-jet 1200's...they have white impellers & work wonderfully. I needed to add one more & so I figured I'd stick with what's worked well for me in the past. It seems Marineland has changed their models..the new one has a different impeller (it's purple, so that's how you know when you got one of the new terrible ones). The first one I got, the impellers SHEARED OFF completely within a day. So I exchanged it out for a new one...the impeller on it was wobbly & made so much noise it wasnt worth keeping.

I'm so disappointed in these new pumps. It's too bad they couldn't have stuck with their old quality designs. DO NOT BUY.

I needed a pump to use in a sump I was building. Only needed about 100gph of flow going back into the aquarium from the sump. This was perfect, it's actually more than I need which is good.

*** FLOW RATINGS

It's rated for 1,300GPH, which is based on open-flow. Meaning just being used as a powerhead to push water around an aquarium. It comes with a screw (propeller) and an enclosure, and it will DEFINITELY move your water around fast. For "pump" mode, it's rated at 295gph open flow.

With the fittings I used, the smallest restriction is 3/8". The tubing is 1/2". I'm able to get over 200gph of return flow with this setup, which I have to dial-down using a gate valve in order to maintain my precise needs. Remember, more GPH is BETTER than less, because you can't dial-up the flow.

*** FITTINGS AND STUFF

This comes with everything you need for almost any purpose. It has the normal powerhead fittings, as well as a complete screw/cover kit, suction-cup kit, air-scavanger tubing, flow angle thingy, and a really long cord.

*** IT ISN'T LOUD AT ALL

I can't even hear the thing running inside of my sump. If your pump or the direct fittings coming off of it are touching something, then yes you will hear the noise of the pump. The water itself makes no noise. It's no louder than any other powerhead I've tried.

*** SUMMARY

You can't beat the price and speed of shipping when purchasing it through Amazon Prime. Even my local Care A Lot couldn't get it for as cheap!

I just purchased a Maxi-Jet 1200 to replace a unit that finally died. I figured I might as welll replace it with the same model as I had not had any problems with the original one. Well I received it today and was excited to install it. Got it all set up and plugged in and sat down on the couch to marvel at the tank. Within 10 minutes the pump stop working. When I went to open the unit I found a propellerless purple impeller (the old one was white). Im pretty disappointed as I thought that Marineland was a name that I could trust...I guess not anymore.

The pump moves plenty of water in my 120, but it only ran four days, before it self-destructed. The impeller flew apart and rendered the pump useless. Like I saw in another review mine was the purple impeller. When assembled as a wave maker the pump did move a lot of water, in fact to much water in my 120. Not necessarily a bad thing but worth noting.

Zilla 11758 Terrarium Liner, 50-Gallon, Green

Zilla 11758 Terrarium Liner, 50-Gallon, GreenI use this liner for my bearded dragon. It holds up really well! If it gets too nasty I just take it outside and wash it with the water hose, let it dry, and put it back in the tank. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish it came in brown for desert terrariums.

I originally wanted tile as I heard they were easy to clean, and was planning to use this under the tile to protect the glass. Never did find tile I liked, so I stuck with the carpet. My only gripe is brown is so hard to find in the larger size.

I vacuum this on a regular basis and it looks great. Beardies nails do not get stuck in the carpet. I haven't placed it in the washer machine yet, so I'm not sure how well it will look afterwards.

It was easy to measure and cut with a scissor before being placed in my tank and it lies flat. Very happy with it for the price and it looks good.

I have used Zilla terrarium liners exclusively for our box turtle ever since our vet advised me so. I had complained about the stinky mess of cleaning up substrate products, not to mention the unexpected and unwelcome "pest-guests" that I sometimes found in them (even after freezing the unopened product for several days!). You can't beat these liners. They're easy to clean, especially in the summer when I just use a garden hose to clean them. I suppose the turtle misses digging in substrate as he used to do. But the pluses for me outweigh his love of digging.

Want Zilla 11758 Terrarium Liner, 50-Gallon, Green Discount?

This product is manufactured to fit with Zilla terrariums. I had to snip about 5/8 of an inch off the length of our carpet, but after that it covered the floor edge to edge perfectly in our 40 gallon unit. We placed our Ball Python back in the cage after a cleaning and installing this carpet, and he explored a bit but didn't seem to find a problem with the carpet. In fact he has settled into his normal routines already. So our guy seems comfortable with it, which makes us happy. Heat also seems to penetrate carpet well, which surprised me considering this is made of recycled plastic materials. I thought I would have to cut a chunk out over the heated portion of the tank, but I won't have to. It dampens the heat from under tank heating pads just enough to make it feel more natural without severely stifling it. Our tank is also staying 2-3 degrees warmer prior to installation, so this carpet provides enough R value to completely make up for the slight reduction in heat penetration from the heater, and actually helps the heater work more efficiently. It sure is nice to replace the messy substrate we were using with something cleaner and washable. I recommend for anyone with a snake housed in a Zilla Terrarium.

Vibran-Sea Narrow Eel Grass Silk-Style Aquarium Plant, Medium 9-10 tall, Deep Plum

Vibran-Sea Narrow Eel Grass Silk-Style Aquarium Plant, Medium 9-10 tall, Deep PlumLooks nice in aquarium. weighted base is heavy enough. They sway nicely in the current and clean up easily. buying more. >>>> UPDATED >>>> After a month or so in the tank the edges of all the plants frayed, the frayed strings came loose and wrapped themselves around the impeller of my penguin filter. All garbage now.

I saw pictures of this eel grass posted by another reviewer and I instantly just fell in love!

I order it in purple and in all green color as well and combined they look phenomenal in my tank hands down almost as though they are real.

The purple is a very nice and exotic violet almost and the green on it is light so it looks as though it is a salt water plant.

I am very pleased with the quality as well although I would have liked to see the base a little heavier so that it can hold it self better under the gravel instead of having to place rocks or a lot of gravel on it so it can stay down.

The different shades also do not limit you to what other plants you can put in the tank because it almost has all the shades in it so blending is a breeze again.

I definitely recommend it and would buy it again.

These aquarium plant are very life like and an excellent addition to any aquarium in place of real plants. Only down side is they tend to wear out fast over a short period of time and discolor easier than plastic plants.

EcoPlus ECO-66 Submersible Hydroponic/Aquarium Pump

EcoPlus ECO-66 Submersible Hydroponic/Aquarium PumpI'm using this pump on a flood and drain hydroponic system. This pump is working against a 12 inch rise and my return easily allows this thing to run wide open with no problems! Farm Innovators PS-200 Pond Di-Icer Heated Saucer, 200-Watt

Farm Innovators PS-200 Pond Di-Icer Heated Saucer, 200-WattBought the unit, plugged it in and it worked great. It kept the ice from forming in the pond and my stream running through cold weather. The unit stopped working and a coil melted through the plastic. Customer service (800-277-8401) was called and they express shipped a new unit. Very friendly, great service. Hopefully the second unit will not fail.

Would recommend.

I bought this product two years ago. It worked great the first year and kept the fish alive. The second year it shorted out the outlet cutting the power off which I didn't catch until it was too late. I thought at first it was the outdoor lighting around the pond, but a week ago I took the lights out and put only the pond heater in figuring it would work. It turns out every time I plugged it in it would short out and cut off the electrical. I'm now in the market for a new pond heater. It was a shame to see those fish floating at the end of winter last year...

I bought and used this item in my 370 gallon pond 4 months out of a year and it worked great, but the second year of use it did not work,I did nothing different from the first to the second year and handled and put it away in it original box during storage.I did the direction thing about putting it in a freezer to reset a thermostat, which it did work for a short time but froze itself in the pond ice,so unless you like spending money annually for a fairly decent deicer when it works or did work is up to you.
