Seachem The Bag Filter Media Bag

Seachem The Bag Filter Media BagI just received "The Bag" 5x10" resealable media bag. I'm using it to hold Purigen, and it's going in my Brand new Fluval Fx5. Everything is great, The bag seems durable and none of the purigen spills out. Water flows through it rather easily too. My only complaint is in the description, both on the site, and on the box for the back it says, "...comes with a convenient resealable locking closure." I read this as it has a "Zip Loc" Type enclosure. Probably much more durable and strong. When I Opened it, it's even better. It has a reusable Zip-Tie. I'd never seen a reusable zip-tie before this product and It's really neat. Infact I want some just for my computer cords, and other organizational needs It'd be much easier than regular zip ties. lol

On the other hand I would -notuse this media Bag to hold other types of media, it's just overkill. You only need this bag if you are planning on using Purigen in it.

The best filter media bags I've come across in over 30 years.As a long time fan of Seachem products, it didn't surprise me that they would develop a media bag that surpasses all others.The fundamental problem with most filter bags is that the sides are stitched, this means that over time the acidic elements in the aquarium water along with the constant water pressure, especially in canister filters can result in burst seams.

Another problem being the sting type closures. These closures are usually cotton or a cotton and synthetic mix. The closure will break down at some point depending upon the water parameters in your tank.These bags are inexpensive and can be replaced but who really wants the extra burden of opening up your filter to check and or replace a media bag?

The media bag by Seachem is a 180 micro mesh with welded seams, these seams can last for decades the possible way they would burst is if you over fill the bag with far too much media. As for the closure, it's water safe plastic, which once locked in place isn't going to pop open and blast media into your filter and all over your tank.

Another benefit of "The Bag" is that it's immune to recharging media with bleach as you can do with Purigen one of the most advanced filtration media on the market today.Any other media bag would never hold up.The one complaint I have and this has to more with the Marketing of Purigen itself rather than the bag. Is that Seachem should do a better job making it clear that you must use at least a micro mesh of 180.

To use a wider mesh you'll end up with any very fine media such as Diatomaceous earth or Purigen pouring out of it like flour through a sieve.Yes, at $14.95 it's expensive, but if you take good care of it you'll never have to replace it. To find it here on Amazon for a mere $8.13 is an absolute steal. Considering how long this product will last it pays for itself, many times over.

I use them in all my filters and would recommend them to any hobbyist.

Seachem's purigen is so fine it is hard to find a filter bag it will work with. This one is well-built, comes with a decent tie, and is around the same price as other bags that don't tend to do the job as well.

Nature Aquarium Polished Glass Gravel - Blue Glass Gravel 8 oz. Small

Nature Aquarium Polished Glass Gravel - Blue Glass Gravel 8 oz. SmallI purchased this for my 20 gallon tank and it looks beautiful! My African Dwarf Frogs seem to like this better than rough, regular aquarium gravel. It shimmers and looks pretty when the lights are turned on! I've also purchased the red, larger glass gravel for my betta tank and love the colors!

Exactly what I was looking for to add some color to my concrete countertops. I still have to polish the countertops, but so far they look great.

I purchased a bag to display a gorgeous large silvery air plant. It does look dramatic alas, the contents of the bag hardly cover the bottom of the glass bowl. Not enough bang for the buck, in my opinion.

Lee`s Aquarium 20L/29gal Undergravel Filter 12 X 30

Lee`s Aquarium 20L/29gal Undergravel Filter 12 X 30The product is very sturdy like most U.S. made products. I bought it to support US economy, and I'm really glad I did. I checked a competitor's product imported from overseas and it was already broken in pkg and lighter in comparison. Very satisfied with it. Not perfect, but definitely worth having. My aquarium is a lot cleaner and healthier because of this undergravel filter. It was pretty easy to assemble. I recommend it.

Aqueon Betta Divider For Minibow 2.5 Gallon

Aqueon Betta Divider For Minibow 2.5 GallonDivider served its purpose. TWo male beta; one blue, one red. Great as a starter. would get it again. Wow

You might as well let the bettas share the tank because they either hop over the divider or slip right past it near the top when're the glass bows because the divider is not even close to snug fit! I fished the bettas back and forth six times in the first three hours after I set this up! I finally had to jam cut strips of filter pads in the gaps between the walls and the edge of the divider so it sealed the edges...also laid a fish net acreen across the top to stop the jumping over...then, I could go to bed! Maybe of the divide was more solid they wouldn't be so tempted. It's too bad...Cute set up with decent room for the fish. But, tomorrow I have to go buy a better set up! Great idea Aqueon... Now make it work!

Buy Aqueon Betta Divider For Minibow 2.5 Gallon Now

I hate to make things worse for the seller here, but I can tell just by the appearance of this thing that its not really sufficient to separate two bettas. I tried to keep 2 in a tank with a divider just like this, they were easily able to see each other through it and nipped at each other through the holes. A good divider is one that doesn't let the bettas see each other at all.

Reef One Biorb Heater Pack

Reef One Biorb Heater PackThis item itself works great and has been reliable, but the fit for the BiOrb tank itself doesnt quite work..

the tank is a sphere so they should have found/or made accessories that can fit the concavity of the inner walls of the tank. It comes with a plastic wall adapter that does not work. Directions with the heater are limited and does not explain too much in terms of installing.

This heater is a breeze to install. i dont know what size orbs the others were commenting on that were having issues. It is fully submersable so the owner that was afraid to drop it in should read the directions. Maybe the smaller orbs have a tighter sphere making it more difficult to install. I own the 16 gallon biorb and i had no problems. Will try to post a pic so you can check out what it looks like.

this heater works fine but will not fit into the BiOrb with the suction cups inclosed. You just have to let it dangle in the tank by the cord and hope it does not go into the water.

Tuffy's Ultimate Bone Dog Toy

Tuffy's Ultimate Bone Dog Toy, Pink LeopardMy one year old medium sized dog destuffed this toy in under three minutes. The seams are the weak point. When I wrote to customer service about this (and directed them to posted pics of the process on my web site), I got a nasty response with a hint of threat about the posted pics that said that the toy is "not a chew toy." (The advertising said, "for dogs who chew their toys.")

I have an 8mos old border collie mix that is the strongest chewer I've ever owned. Thankfully he only chews on his toys! Unfortunately it makes if very hard for us to find things that can withstand his jaws. I was so hopeful with this one. He had the sides chewed off in 15 minutes. I'm not lying. The stuffing was ripped out before I knew it, and within this mass of white cloud was one of the squeakers which they market as being triple wrapped in "tuff" material to keep it in the toy. He really did LOVE this toy though, I'll give them that but it definitely did NOT hold up at all.

If your dog is a big time chewer, don't get this toy it just won't last. I've had the best luck with a sherpa dragon that at least lasted about 5 days before I had to throw it out.

Buy Tuffy's Ultimate Bone Dog Toy Now

This toy only lasted 2 weeks before my dog tore it up. Also, seller says product is guaranteed, I contacted the seller via email thru Amazon asking about the warrany/guarantee and never got a response back. I would not recommend buying this product as seller provided false information by stating the toy was indestructable and if it were to be torn up it was warrantied.

Very strong-looking toy. Appears well made. Nice plush outer shell and rugged-feeling build.

Gave this to a 9-month old St. Bernard mix. She mono-focuses on one part of a toy and works on it as long as it takes (usually a few minutes) to get to stuffing. This Tuffy toy (rated 8 on the 10 tuffy scale) was opened-up to reveal stuffing in about 10 minutes.

This toy may be for rough play time, but not for chewing. Get a hard rubber toy and leave this one for fetch.

P.S. Dog LOVES IT!

Fenway, our 5 month yellow lab chewed this to pieces in under 5 minutes. She did love the toy but it is kind of expensive for only 5 minutes. She loves the Cuz toys, they squeak and made of rubber. Hope this helps.

Mini Broad Lily-Leaf with Flower Buds in Green

Mini Broad Lily-Leaf with Flower Buds in GreenThe picture is deceptive. I thought this was a larger plant that would float like a lily plant actually does. The leaves are not broad and it is attached to a base like other plants. I have recently purchased several Blue Ribbon Plants, and I am unsure of them. The bases are an unnatural pink so they stand out clearly in the the substrate. The colors can be unnatural and gaudy. The most disturbing part is the pictures used are not at all an accurate portrayal of the product. All of my plants have been mislabeled and improperly shown. I would avoid simply because the company cannot provide a proper representation of a product.

Aquatic Creations Ancient Pyramid Aquarium Ornament

Aquatic Creations Ancient Pyramid Aquarium OrnamentHaving recently gotten a fish I named Pyramid, this was an absolute essential! I'd been to many brick-and-morter pet stores in search of Egyptian decor for Pyramid's tank. I was starting to give up when I found this item!

This pyramid is a great addition to my Egypt-themed aquarium. It is really nice looking, exactly as pictured. Pay attention to the dimensions listed above because it is kind of large. It is hollow, so not heavy at all. Looks great in the aquarium. It seems to be durable and well-made. The style is more realistic as fish tank ornaments go not tacky at all!

I also got the Aquatic Creations "Four Sarcophagi" decoration, which looks great too.

(Note: I encourage you to disregard the unfairly low rating of the previous review. It seems the reviewer did not understand that this was an aquatic ornament, not a Christmas ornament.)

This is only an ornament if your tree is a sequoia! Not what it appears to be!

Marineland ML Double Bright LED Light

Marineland Double Bright LED Lighting System for Aquarium, 48 by 60-InchRead this and compare to the REEF lights, if you're interested in putting one of these lights on your tank.

I received my 24-36 in. Marineland Double Bright LED Light 8 x 1W white 4 x .06W blue and was delighted when the light finally arrived.

The fixture packaging was simple, yet sturdy and protective of the light fixture. It comes with two parts: the main body and the power cord. Easy, no brainer, installation!

Just so you know, this light is going on top of a heavily planted, freshwater, 30 gallon tank, with the dimensions of, 30x18.5x12in. WxHxD

Look wise, what was truly attractive, was the body being slim and sleek. No more clunky hood to stare at anymore!

After reading the directions, a disappointing tidbit, was that Marineland (manufacturer label) required and recommended that the light be placed on a tank with clear acrylic or glass covers to protect the LEDs from water damage.

My original intention was to leave the light directly above the tank, using the built in brackets it comes with.

The unit is completely silent. A big difference for those that have fans for high output light that run very hot.

The light output itself was sufficient, while not being the brightest I've seen. It doesn't fill the tank with light like most lights do. It lights up the tank like how the sun lights up water when it shines through it. It's like the light waves on the bottom of a pool when the sun is shining through the moving water surface. Imagine the shimmery effect in water, but with eight fill sources of light gleaming into the tank and bouncing off the tank floor. That's the natural feel (almost mesmerizin strobe); unlike other lights which completely fill the tank with light.

Because of that effect, the light doesn't look like it's putting out intense light. There are shadows and light waving almost everywhere with darker sides (width wise) to the tank. The darkness might be due to the fixture not completely spanning the width of the tank (the brackets expand so to fill the gap spaces).

As for the LED lights, there are eight of the white lights that are split into two rows (4+4). The row of four moonlights are between the two rows of white light lights (white+moon+white).

The LED lights throw very very little heat, to the point they can be called cool lights. Don't expect them to heat your tank. They are physically touchable without burning your skin like regular light fixtures would.

Curious and of interest, is when the fixture is turned on to white daylight, not only are the white LEDs on, but the moonlights are on also at the same time. When you switch to night mode, only the moonlights are on.

Some people have complained that because there isn't a separated switch for the white and moonlights it becomes cumbersome to have to manually change the light between modes when you have the light on a timer. It's TRUE! Marineland, should make a solution to that problem and I'm sure many more people would buy the light due to the ability to put the lights on a timer with no fuss. The two reasons I could think of why they didn't do so: 1) it costs more *not a good excuse* 2) because the moonlights are turned on in daylight mode, the lifespan of the moonlights would be extremely unproportionate to the lifespan of the white LEDs (assuming white and moonlight LEDs last the same amount of time).

The expected LED life on the box is 16,000 hours of usage. So assuming you used your daytime lights 8-12 hours a day and at night your moonlights only, 12-16 hours.

Your moonlights would FAIL in 667 days (16,000/24hours), compared to 1333-2000 days (16,000/12hours & 16,000/8hours) of white LED use.

That's a big difference (lifewise) and enough to justify to not leave the moonlight on, unless you really want it for constant viewing in moonlight mode.

Quick conclusion:

If you're looking for a new look and are able to cover the LED expense, look past minor annoyances and like a natural wave strobe, this is the light for you. Good luck with it! I certainly, enjoy mine!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P.S. So far the plants in the tank are doing fine after two weeks. I'll update in a month or so to let everyone know if they are sufficing my plants.
Part 2: Review May 21, 2011
It's been about a month and a half with the Double Brights 24"-36" lights and I have to say it's becoming apparently disappointing. The plants in my 30G freshwater tank that usually do well in moderate to high light are browning and failing. It just isn't sufficient enough in the parts where the beam of light doesn't shine directly on. Even with the beam directly on the plant, it's hard to sustain growth due to the awkward size of the light, being smaller than the tank, not spanning the full length to the sides.
With that, I decided to invest in a Marineland Reef LED of the same size. I still like the concept of LED and its benefits in comparison to T5, MH lighting. I'll try posting a review in of that light under that comment section.
As for the difference compared to the Double Brights, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I've been looking up more forums and upon Marinelands' own FAQ section one person asked if the 'Reef' lights are usable for planted tank in freshwater and the reply from an official representative was that they actually recommend using the REEF light if you're going to do a planted tank.
I would completely agree with that statement. The difference is night and day. The double brights produce a warmer temperature color of light 6,000K and the reef model cooler, 10,000K. The difference is BRIGHT white. If you're looking for a warm color go with the double brights, but if you're looking for white light output go REEF. I have the two side by side and you can obviously tell that one part of the tank is yellow and the other full daylight white. I'm guessing the amount of LED's and calibration does make a big difference (being the Reef's has more). The Actinic blue output is also "louder" in comparison, from 60mW to 1W.
There are some downfalls comparatively, but they're nominal depending on what you're looking for.
Double Bright vs. Reef Lights
1. Price. Upfront, the REEFs are more expensive, but if you count the amount of LED fixtures in them, cost per light Reefs are cheaper.
2. Color temperature. The Double's are warmer 6,000K, REEFs 10,000K
3. Double brights don't give as much light coverage as the Reefs do in the tank.
4. REEFs do run hotter on the top of the unit. It's warm/hot on the heat sink fins. Not scalding.
5. REEFs have a higher energy consumption vs the double brights, but with more lights I think it's well worth it.
6. Double brights have approx. 17,000 hours of life, REEFs 50,000 hours!
7. The moonlight comparison has the 'Double bright lights' feeling weak, REEFs are strong.
So if you can get past without needing a Reef light, do so. But the one persuasion that might make it all worthwhile is that the Reef model has 50,000 hours vs the 17,000 hours of use before light diminishes 30% in output intensity.
This light is fantastic. Uses very little power but bright and gives a fantastic look to the aquarium. Shimmer effect is awesome. Plus you can turn the blue lights on at night to see fish at night without interrupting them. Great for my black ghost knife and any other nocturnal fish.
Its very slim and sleek when resting on the aquarium the top of the light is maybe 1.5 inches from the glass very low profile.
The only problem the blue night lights run all day with the regular lights, but are on the same switch, so you cant set a timer to make it so all the lights are on all day and the blue all night, you have to manually switch on the blue to use it. It will be relatively simple to install a new switch to do this, but requires time, parts, a new power supply, voiding warranty, etc ,etc. Would have been much better if they were separately controlled.
I bought the 48" LED for my 4 foot tank, and it looks great, but I sometimes wish I had gone with the 36". It would leave 6 inches "unlit" on each side, but it would give a pretty cool effect I think, and is $100 cheaper. You can get two 36" for the price of one 48." I mainly got the 48" because it is more powerful with more lights and I was thinking it would be able to support plants better. After being set up a couple weeks the plants are doing well, but we'll see how it does long-term.
Also you never have to replace bulbs. On a planted tank this is a major expense if you want to keep the bulbs producing usable light. This light claims to last 5 years before replacement, while most power compact and T8-T5 bulbs say 6-12 months or less, and are all fairly costly. This combined with the low energy consumption of the LED makes it much cheaper long-term.
Buy Marineland ML Double Bright LED Light Now
I have used this light for a 10 gallon tropical fishtank for the last three months and am very pleased. I have fairly easy-to-maintain aquatic plants which are all growing very well even without CO2, although I use fertilizer and iron sometimes. Only some of the the very small foreground plants struggle a little bit. At first it seemed that the light does not reach into all corners of the tank but the plants seemed to grow regardless. I had to prune plants several times. The design is very sleek and there is no heat created by the light. LED gives the water a beautiful shimmer. Fish look nice, but the colors are not quite as brilliant as in my other fish tank with flourescent lights. Interestingly the less colorful fish look better. Although all fish and plants are doing well I wish it were a tad brighter to bring out the colors of the fish.
After one year: It works very well for planted aquarium and seems to cause less algae growth than flourescent light.
Read Best Reviews of Marineland ML Double Bright LED Light Here
I have a 55 gallon aquarium, 48" long rectangular. Nothing special. For a long time I've had a 48" fluorescent twin tube light, but was getting algae. The "Pet Store Guy" said to turn my lights on more, and it should help get rid of the algae. The only problem, my bulbs were as old as the fixture, and not putting out the UV light they need to in order to kill the algae. He did say that if my bulbs were old, it may not help that much. He was right. When I started looking at replacing the bulbs, they were $15-$20 each. That means $80 a year. He mentioned LED lighting, and so I started looking.
When I saw this, I realized it would pay for itself in just over 2 years. Pretty cool! I couldn't 1-click buy this fast enough.
When I put it on my setup, it took a bit to get used to the lighting. The Marineland Double Bright is pretty blue intensive. I was used to the full spectrum thrown by my florescent. This thing is very bright, as bright or brighter than the twin fluorescent. I've had it now for about 3 weeks, the algae growth has slowed to a minimum (My pleco is keeping up with it easily), and I'm very happy.
It's plenty of light for plants, but I have Silver Dollars, and well, you know ...
Another plus is the fact that this light does not affect the temperature in the tank nearly as much. I noticed the temp dropped 2 degrees. It now has the temperature I set on the heater, which is awesome. I like the way this light does not sit directly on the top of the aquarium. It's legs lift it about 2 inches above the rim (I use glass covers) and looks really nice. Also being smaller, it's easier to get to my filters and what not.
I only have 2 complaints:
Lunar mode is on the same switch as regular. Can't activate it with a timer. I'm trying to think of a way to make it happen. Also, to go from regular to lunar (or back) has to go through the off position, this really bothers my fish.
17,000 hours seems like a really short life span. At 12 hours a day, that's 1416 days ( 3.87 years ). That doesn't seem like that much of a value over florescent. We shall see.
Sorry this is so long -but it really is a great light.
Want Marineland ML Double Bright LED Light Discount?
I bought this unit to replace a Coralife 36" (2X96 fan cooled Freshwater 6700K) unit. I live in El Paso and my tank is under a sky-light. Due to the abundance of natural light, I don't really need much for things to grow. I run the light about 5 hours a day (6 to 11PM).
Prosruns much cooler than my Coralife. I like the natural color of the LED units over the 6700K Coralife. Very low profile(may be a + or depending on your taste).
Consnot a salt water or coral light. Not enough light for that. Marineland would need to double the LED count to come close. Cannot run just the blue lights separately, should have had two cords for use of timers with the unit. Use of power adapter a little cheap and flimsy compared to the two three prong power cords of the Coralife. Coralife has much more light output, can change the bulbs for different color needs (salt, fresh, plant, coral, etc)
Because I don't need a bunch of light, I like the unit and will keep it.
Hagen Nutrafin Max Spirulina Tablets, 3.88-Ounce
Hagen Nutrafin Max Spirulina Tablets, 3.88-OunceAfter only one feeding in two different tanks, I'm very impressed so far.
I fed 1/4 tablet to 10 Crystal Red Shrimp and they went absolutely crazy! They were darting around the tank and seemed to be fighting over it. I've had them for about a month and feed them a varied diet consisting mostly of Fluval Shrimp Granules and Hikari Crab Cuisine, but also TetraMin Flakes, and Wardley Spirulina Discs. I have never seen them react so positively to any of these foods. The pond snails in the tank were all over it as well.
I fed a 1/2 tablet to 7 Ottos (Otocinclus affinis) in another tank with similar results. Ottos are usually somewhat shy but after a few minutes they must have sensed the dissolving tablet as they also became extremely active. I've never seen them so determined to find food before. The above mentioned Wardley Spirulina Disks provoke very little reaction when compared to the Nutrafin Max. The pond snails in this tank seemed to love it as well.
Pros:
~ My picky shrimp and Ottos love them
~ 30% spirulina content (1st ingredient on the label)
~ Value! nearly a 1/4lb for about $7.
~ Contains garlic and plenty of vitamins/minerals
~ 100% vegetable formula with no animal protein/fat
~ No artificial colors
Cons:
~ The expiration date is 12/2012, only 7 months from now. But this could be due to Amazon having old stock.
~ Messy, they fall apart rapidly with any current don't overfeed, turn off your filter and air pumps if possible.
~ I couldn't get the 1/2 tablet to stick to the aquarium glass as advertised. It just crumbled.
Generally speaking, I've been quite impressed with Hagen products and this is no exception!
I have tropical fish that absolutely love these Spirulina tabs. My fish are Tropheus and require a vegetarian diet and these tabs make for a nice healthy treat every once in a while.
Kyjen Outward Hound Port-a-Bowl, Green, 48-Ounce
Kyjen Outward Hound Port-a-Bowl, Green, 48-OunceThis is great for travelling. Some reviewers misunderstood the purpose of the collapsing bowl. It's for TEMPORARY watering of your pets...not for holding water all day long. Put water in it on stops with the dog, let dog drink what it will, dump out excess water, collapse and put away bowl, and travel along again. Repeat at next watering stop. If you want something that holds water ALL DAY, then get the solid bowls that don't collapse. It's really that simple, folks...really.
Initially, I bought this to tuck into my pup's backpack for trips to our local dog park. Our park is outside city limits, so no doggy water fountains or water spigots. After a romp in the park on a particulary hot day, I put both dogs in the back of my Honda CR-V with the bowl filled with water. Then I ran up front to start the car and run the AC.
At some point it occured to me this little bowl was just a bit wider at the bottom, with a slightly more narrow opening. It's bottom heavy, it probably won't tip over if I start toward home. We rode through small towns with stop lights, around hair pin turns and over steep hills; and sure enough, it didn't tip over. At least a thousand miles in rides to the park later, it still hasn't tipped over. Running the ac can't cool off the entire car on 90 degree days, having the ability to put water in the back for my dogs really opens up the range of our travels. Anymore, going anywhere without our Kyjen bowl and a gallon of ice water just seems uncivilized!
This is a very well made, light-weight product that conveniently folds up for travel. As a bonus, it's much less expensive than similar bowls that I've seen in local stores. Initially, I was concerned that the 48 ounce size would be too big, but it isn't. I'll mainly be using this item for water when my dog and I are out on trips.
Universal Rocks 24-Inch by 12-Inch Rocky Aquarium/Reptile Rigid Foam Background
Universal Rocks 24-Inch by 12-Inch Rocky Aquarium/Reptile Rigid Foam BackgroundThis background looks like real rock I got it actually for a small 5 gallon aquarium but haven't installed it yet it is probably only about 3/4 inch thick, which is one of the things I was concerned about it is made of very thick foam so it will need to be cut and wedged into the tank to hold into place other reviewers are right, I don't know how the two clips that come with it are supposed to hold it in place
Float Aqua Log for Pet
Zoo Med Floating Aquarium Log, SmallI bought this because I have a lone guppy in a ten-gallon tank, and I found out the guppies like to hide in order to relieve their fish-stress. Well, my guppy swam through this floating log about twice that I saw, but never adopted it as a "hang out".
Also, these floating logs really do float and one day I saw to my horror my guppy trapped between the log and one of the sides of the aquarium. So I took it out and now it's in my "another great aquarium idea that didn't work" box. I'm rather disappointed.
This very nice looking product could be improved by some sort of anchoring mechanism that would keep it from floating out of control in tanks with moving currents of water. I would have jury-rigged such a mechanism myself if the guppy liked the log, but he didn't.
Not as realistic as some other aquarium decor, but floats as advertised. Fantastic price for the buy (other stores were selling for 4x as much.
This realistically ugly plastic log floats on the surface of the tank providing a hiding place for brooding mouthbrooders and chewed-on males. Like penn-plex's cliffs and caves, it provides a hiding place away from the prime territory at the tank bottoms, so the dominant males leave it alone. There are no suction cups to fail and it sits in a stable orientation and does not roll. It boast a "feeding hole", but I wouldn't use it. If the aggressive fish find food in they won't leave it alone.
My betta loves this log. He sleeps in it rather than the betta leaf hamock thing I got him and will chase the other fish in the tank away from it. Only downside is if you've got a territorial and aggressive fish it could become a bit of a war zone, so it may not be for ever tank.
This product is probably better suited for turtles and frogs. Some fish may like it. My fish could care less. When the fish are hanging around the top of the tank, especially while feeding, they may pass through it just to get to the other side...meaning they go through it because that is easier than swimming around it or under it at the moment. Otherwise they ignore it. Am going to try it in another tank with a different type of fish and see how they react to it.
Penn Plax 4-Pack Aqua Mist Air Stone Cylinder Aerator for Fish Tank
Penn Plax 4-Pack Aqua Mist Air Stone Cylinder Aerator for Fish TankPlenty of bubbles with these. So far they seem to be working out just fine. I liked that they didn't need to be "soaked" in the water for any time before being hooked up. They work right out of the package just fine. Mine give a nice mix of bubbles and seem to aerate the tank just fine.
I go through air stones for my hermit crab pools a lot. This brand seems to work better and last longer in their pools. They do the job aerating and don't get slimy like the other brands I have tried.
I use these in a hydroponic set up, a difficult environment for air stones. They work well and last quite a while in small self contained systems.
