Salifert Flatworm eXit Aquarium Treatment - 10ml/300 Gallons

Salifert Flatworm eXit Aquarium Treatment - 10ml/300 GallonsThis stuff did the job for me. I was infested with the little buggers so I followed the directions and they were gone.

Works perfectly if you follow the directions. Not dangerous if you have some water to perform a water change with and some high quality activated carbon to throw in. Some helpful points. Use a powerhead to blast the rock and get out as many as you can that are inside of it. The ones you see are only a small portion of what is in the tank. Use a small tube to remove as many as you can before you treat the tank. Flatworm Exit dosent harm the corals or fish in your system, the dead flatworms do. I have used this numerous times on new corals as well as 3 different systems iv had setup over the years. If there are still some after a treatment, just treat again. Its not always a one shot kill. Prevention is the best way to keep these little buggers out of your tank.

I used a double dose of this and never see any more flat worms.. They almost immediately begged for their lives and got sucked out with a tube. Didn't harm any of my inverts including feather dusters and anemone.

This is a dangerous and ineffective product. The first application stressed all the inhabitants of my tank, and killed some but not all of the flatworms. The second application killed ALL my fish. Now, I don't know if this was from the product or the dead flatworms, but either way killing most of the flatworms all at once is extremely dangerous for the tank. I used the product exactly as directed. My corals eventually recovered after a couple of weeks, but the loss of my fish was not worth the attempt. Months later and the flatworms are still there. The product will NOT kill all the flatworms, only stress the aquarium, and the worms will be back in no time. After the second application, there were a large number of flatworms after only a few days, so it was not very effective. Please try a different method, or live with the worms. I did try a velvet nudibranch a few months later, and it DID eat a lot of worms (it was fun to watch), but unfortunately only lived a couple of weeks.

Within 30 min all the flatworms were dying. But so were my corals. Presumably from the toxins in the flatworms and I did suck out as many as I could but apparently I counldnt get enough. There are still a few survivors so I need to do it again. Most of my corals have bounced back (applied two weeks ago). Have plenty of fresh saltwater ready.

Rena Air 50 Air Pump

Rena Air 50 Air PumpBought this along with a whisper 10 to compare.

Whisper 10 won due to more air volume and slightly quieter than the Rena.

This filter is nearly dead silent. As far as I can tell it has no significant sound of it's own. I was ready to move the tank into a closet(or worse;) Tx to Bill at Rena for this great product.

Buy Rena Air 50 Air Pump Now

When my one of my aquariums' air pump (Tetra 77851 Whisper Air Pump, 10-Gallon) started to get noisy (maybe of age), I ordered first the TOM Stellar Air Pump S-20 20gal to 30gal tank, thinking this product may be more quiet than Tetra, based on some reviews. Turned out to be so noisy. So I ordered now this Rena, as again, some reviewers said that this is the most quiet among all for the price. That didn't happen. It was by far as noisy as the other and had become so annoying. I just ordered another Tetra again and now I know among the 3, which one is truly the "whisper" type. Tom and Rena went to garbage instead of me wasting my time and effort for repacking them and return.

I got this for my puppy because I was taking her by myself to her vet appointments and other places. She was climbing all over me during the drive. It was not safe. I tried some other car seats for dogs, but they didn't work. I got this one and she loves it. I was going to get it ready for her one day so we could go. She got so excited, jumped in the car and on to her seat. She also will sleep in it in the house. It was a little pricey, but she loves it. I love my puppy and I want to drive safely with her so I think this bed is well worth it.

Penn Plax Twin Beta Bow-Front Kit for Aquarium

Penn Plax Twin Beta Bow-Front Kit for AquariumThis is WAY too small. Despite common misconceptions, bettas do NOT like to be kept in tiny containers. They do NOT live in small puddles their entire lives. They live in rice paddies that are flooded in the rainy season and slowly dry up. Bettas have adapted to survive in shallow water, but will not thrive in a cup.

Ammonia will build up quickly in a container like this. Also, the temperature will fluctuate. Bettas need clean fresh water and a stable tropical temperature. Failing to meet these needs will result in illness and eventually death.

If you want to keep a betta, there are many wonderful online resources. Do some research before you buy one of these amazing creatures!

All I have to say is, if you are heartless enough to consider keeping a betta in this, save yourself the shipping and handling and put it in a 2liter soda bottle. I'm sure it would have more space to swim in that than in this.

Buy Penn Plax Twin Beta Bow-Front Kit for Aquarium Now

Don't buy this tank! I bought one and it was small. It also LEAKED and almost killed my fish. Luckily I put water back in it and the fish survived for now and I'm awaiting for them to fully recover. This is the most horrible design of a tank and needs to be recalled and fixed. The water stopper at the bottom can get a miniature fracture in it that you cant see because the whole stopper is black and can start leaking water overnight. My heart almost stopped to see the fishies trying to survive on the bottom of the tank. I would stay away from this tank as you can see from all the reviews.

Are you people who buy this thing blind? In the picture you can plainly see that poor fish is cramped! All it can doo is swim around in a tiny circle around that sharp plant, dragging his delicate silk like fins across it's sharp points! That picture is fake anyway, any betta who had to live in that bowl would never flare his fins out even that far! He would clamp them to his body to provect them from the plant and save some space! How would you seriously like to live in a closet with a big coat rack with sharp edges in the middle? I am not being over dramatic, this "tank" (cup) is the most horrible thing you could do to a fish! I had this once and I QUICKLY rehomed my poor fish (as in I dropped him in and pulled him right back out!) I bought him a 2 gallon fish bowl with a under ground filter. People always complain that bettas don't live long and they are too fragile, well, I have seen betta's kept in 5 gallon tanks with filtration systems and daily feeding of high qualtity betta food and bloodworks live for 10 years or longer!!! and they never got sick! If you care at all about your fish, you will at LEAST get a simple 1 gallon kit with an under gravel filter, they sell very cheap depending on where you go, as low as 11 dollars at Walmart! Please don't torture your fish! you would never imagine putting your ferret or cat or dog in a hamster cage, would you?

Want Penn Plax Twin Beta Bow-Front Kit for Aquarium Discount?

I am actually glad to see there are this many people against this aweful sham of a betta "home". This is just plain outrageous. Sure a betta CAN survive in something this small, but a human CAN survive living in a closet. Would you want to though? Well neither does your betta!

And the Silica gravel stuff at the bottom...wow, just, wow...they print "Do Not Eat" on the little packages of Silica for a reason! (you know the ones they put in new shoes to absorb moisture) It amazes me that some people think thats safe to put in with a LIVE ANIMAL!!!

Fluval U Underwater Filter BioMax

Fluval U Underwater Filter BioMaxWe have a couple turtles and this has helped a lot. I keeps the water cleaner for longer, and keeps it from looking yellow.

Although the Biomax rings (designed for their canister filters) will fit in a U2, U3 and U4 these fit better but are otherwise the same. Since you should only change half at one time and you can rejuvenate the other half several times before replacing them this supply should last you a long time and at a reasonable price.

Although the U series are NOT silent as some claim they are extremely quiet so long as you have them deep enough to just cover the top of the unit. Otherwise noise will come out of any non-submerged portion of the filter. It's the usual humming noise. Once submerged only the Venturi (if used) will create any significant noise. You can also use a standard 1/4" hose in the Venturi and place the other end in a semi-enclose space to make it even more quiet but I'd add a valve (sold on Amazon.com) to avoid any possible back flow during a power failure or when turning it off and refilling the tank during a water change. It may back flow and siphon otherwise but since the tube rises out of the tank and well above the water line it's less likely to back flow unlike with siphon or pump since the contain water instead of air. However if you fill a tank too quickly it could create enough pressure to make ti rise just enough but only under with enough pressure from inflowing water. A simple valve will make it always safe to use a 1/4 inch air hose to supply the Venturi with air at any depth of placement.

I got this for my Fluval U2 underwater filter, it works great. Will get again, overall happy with the item.

Want Fluval U Underwater Filter BioMax Discount?

I bought this for my Fluval Edge and although it is basically loose in the box I managed to figure out a way that works for me and my tank.

After rinsing it very well, before replacing the old biomax, I cut some white replacement filter foam that is way thinner than the original Fluval filter foams and fold it in there so its not loose in my grey plastic filter holder.

I can't put too much because there is limited space in the holder for everything the tank needs but I get enough in there that works out well.

I would recommend and buy it again.

TrueLumen 24-Volt Power Supply 60-Watt for TrueLumen Pro LED Strips

TrueLumen 24-Volt Power Supply 60-Watt for TrueLumen Pro LED StripsOne of my 60 gal planted tanks is lit exclusively by TrueLumen Pro LED lighting. For the better part of a year, I used one of these to power two 24" and one 36" inch fixture, daisy chained together. When I decided to add a second 36" unit, I had to add another power supply, so now I run one 24" and one 36" on each. Both configurations have worked well with no drama (something I can't say for some competitive LEDs I use on other aquariums).

The downside is that this is pricey, especially if you power only one fixture. Virtually identical power supplies made by the same OEM sell for less under other names, but given the cost of the LED fixtures themselves, it doesn't seem worth the gamble to buy another brand just to save a few dollars.

Power supplies have been the Achilles Heel of aquarium lighting since incandescents went out of vogue, and only time will tell how durable these prove to be. But at least my first one has lasted a year, which is better than some others I've encountered.

Not much to say, it works as advertised. I am currently powering 2 TrueLumen lights with this and it works well. Small enough to be hidden.

Unfortunately this power supply is not included when you purchase the TrueLumen LED light fixture so you're forced to purchase this separately. The unit has a nice design with an inline plug-in but if you're plugged into a timer power strip like I'm using then this feature is not really used.

Kent Marine 00896 ZooMax, 1-Ounce Bottle

Kent Marine 00896 ZooMax, 1-Ounce BottleThis food solution is awesome. Animals in my tank are thriving... feather dusters always come out as soon as a few drops hit the water. Very concentrated and eye dropper makes feeding very easy. Love that it comes with a plastic container to but the bottle in.... keeps the smell locked inside. The 1-ounce bottle does last for a while.

So do the fish as they try eating the larger pieces! The starfish come out too so it does seem to be well liked by my tank buddies! 4stars is only cuz it's kind of expensive for a small bottle but does last a bit as u only use drops at a time! I have LOTS of coral so I use it EO day or every if the corals have their tentacles out!

EcoSphere Closed Aquatic Ecosystem, Sphere

EcoSphere Closed Aquatic Ecosystem, Small SphereI bought one of these EcoSpheres back in 1999 for my dad as a Christmas present (yes, 12 years ago!), and it is still going strong in 2011! Algae, shrimp, everything... When I say "with the right care" in the review title, don't mistake that to mean it really requires much of any -but it surely helps that it is kept in the right light (the algae grows with more light & shrinks with less) and the right temperature.

The same results obviously cannot be guaranteed, but the one I bought has been well worth every penny and shows no signs of stopping -so it is obviously possible. Very cool product...

**UPDATE: It's now a year and a half after I wrote the initial review and the shrimp is still kickin'... so that is now 13.5 years that it's been going strong. Not too bad.

This is a review copied over from the teardrop shape of the same thing. I realize this will upset many long term, happy owners of the sphere. This is NOT aimed at owners at all. It is merely meant as an additional bit of research information on a very popular retail item. I will attempt to present information that you are free to verify or prove false via your own research.

Original review:

I received one of these as a gift about three years ago. I am a hard core believer in "research what you must care for" as once you take a living thing in and state "I shall care for it" you are responsible for a life. Or several, in this case. Rather quickly, I learned that these shrimp are "Halocaridina rubra" AKA "Opae Ula" AKA "Hawaiian Red Shrimp". They are found in small wild pools in the lava rock all over Hawaii. Rather disturbingly, their habitat has been reduced by roughly 90%! Yet people still continue to collect them from the wild. As of now, I have yet to hear a confirmation that the Ecosphere company is, in fact, captive breeding these creatures. If they are, in fact, wild catching these, even from a pool on their own property that they help to maintain, this may have a rather strenuous impact on what is left of the population of these shrimp, given the number of these spheres and "BYOES" they ship out annually.

The sad fact is that the only people truly giving a representation on the current quantity of these available in the wild are the people who are catching them in order to sell to the general public--and of course, it is in their best interest to state that they are plentiful in the wild, as their livelihood depends on it. Granted, this is pure extrapolation, but I think it is, at the very least, a point worthy of consideration before you purchase one of these kits.

These shrimp are slow breeders with small clutch sizes, and a rather high "infant mortality" so to speak. In short, they are a species which much be protected when possible, and encouraged to breed-be it in captivity or in the wild, in the hopes of creating a sustainable population that our children and our children's children will be able to enjoy.

Keep in mind when purchasing an ecosphere that, regardless of all other facts, the very limited environment dramatically discourages breeding and prevents perpetuation of a species that is currently undetermined in status.

Now, skipping the biology and ecology lesson, and on to the ecosphere itself.... As I studied the limited literature and information available on these shrimp, I learned that although there is the odd ecosphere which reaches just that right balance of diatoms, algae, bacteria, shrimp, etc., the vast majority are nutrient starved, and the ecology inside of them, at the microscopic level, becomes damaged and even destroyed. Then you are left with a couple of shrimp that are incredibly hardy, attempting to live in water that is high in ammonia, nitrites, and/or nitrates, with little to no oxygen for breathing, and eating forms of algae that are in fact, not at all nutritious for them. Because these insignificant seeming little creatures have adapted to such an incredible fluctuation of natural habitat in the wild, they are able to withstand starvation for months and even years.

Look at it this way: The average Opae Ula shrimp life span is roughly ten years, with some living upward of 20. Ecosphere happily informs you in the informative brochure that if you take care of them well (ie: set them in the appropriate light and temperature) they will average a whole 2-3 years! So.....1/3rd of their expected lifespan......

Not so good, in all honesty.

The instructions then go on to explain that on occasion customers excitedly announce their shrimp going 8-20+ years. Which really, that's fantastic! But this is the exception, not the rule.

These shrimp are, slowly but surely, starving inside of these closed systems. If the correct bacteria and algae do not grow (and often they do not) then these poor little creatures will shrink a small bit each time they moult their exoskeleton. According to several sources I have read, they will, in fact, consume themselves at a very slow and painful rate.

Again, not to say that some spheres will not survive 20 years plus ND prove this wrong, but, sadly, the vast majority of spheres are going to slowly decline, taking the living denizens inside down with it.

All of this said, I received my little ecosphere, containing four opae ula shrimp, and I chose to believe that I would balance the lighting and the temperature perfectly, since I honestly couldn't figure out how to get the shrimp out. Fast forward two years, and my first shrimp dies. What a wake up call. I felt terrible. All the shrimp were on the small side when I received them, as I had been hoping for closer to the ten year mark from these fellas. I immediately got online once more and researched all that I could. This time I learned how to remove the plug, and so I did. The three remaining shrimp were decanted carefully into a 2.5 gallon cube aquarium that was carefully balanced to match the specific gravity of the water inside the sphere, with a small airstone and an LED light. I will state that when I tested the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate of the water inside of the previously sealed sphere, I was absolutely appalled. I have zebra danios that couldn't have lasted an hour in that water.

In any even, I started off with only the water from the ecosphere, and daily added about half an ounce of the newly mixed sea water, in an attempt to not shock these delicate little creatures. Now that everyone is happily adjusted, I can monitor the amount of food available, do roughly one 50% water change a year, and care for these fascinating little animals interactively, rather than passively. I can respond to their needs and keep a close eye on the quality of their water, and thus, their life. Low and behold, my three shrimp have become roughly ten shrimp in less than a year (exact counts are tough, as they now have many hiding places and I am never sure that some aren't tucked away and hiding! Far more natural and comforting to them than complete exposure as they are subjected to in the spheres!). In fact, I am almost certain that those little reddish jiggy looking things that I noticed in the tank yesterday are, (I hope), more larvae.

Please, I encourage potential owners of ecospheres to research these shrimp and learn what you can before you purchase. If you still choose to purchase them, fine! But please, do make an informed decision.

In all honesty, I have to seriously wonder about the honesty of any company that simply states that they are giving you "ocean shrimp" and does not provide you with a latin species name to look up information and a natural history on the organism. Particularly when it is a company that claims to be encouraging an awareness of ecology, who is selling a species that is so vulnerable in the wild as these little fellows. If they were truly a company encouraging the thoughtful preservation of our ecology, it seems to me as though they would be attempting to inform new owners of as many facts as possible about their new pets; not hide what they are to prevent you from purchasing them cheaper elsewhere. (or whatever reason they have for not telling you exactly what kind of shrimp they are).

I wish potential owners the best of luck with their fascinating new aquatic denizens, regardless of how you choose to get your hands on them and welcome them into your home, and I sincerely hope you give these thoughts some consideration.

Cheers, and happy shrimping!

Buy EcoSphere Closed Aquatic Ecosystem, Sphere Now

Having always been fascinated by small shiny objects, and being an ecologist, I was always attracted to the EcoSphere and like setups. After letting it hang on my Amazon Wishlist forever, I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy one. It showed up in a special mailing box in a couple of days (oh, and buy it direct from Amazon, don't pay the $20 shipping stinger from other vendors). It only took a few minutes to confirm that this is a really cool product. Our sphere has three shrimp in it, and they're plenty active. The sphere needs indirect light, and the little direction card tells you how to keep track of the light situation ... if your plant is shrinking, give it more light ... if it is overgrowing and the sphere is getting a lot of algae on the inside, reduce the light. The direction card has a magnet on it and there are a couple of magnet bits in the sphere; you put the magnet to the outside of the sphere and the inner magnet is attracted to it, and then you wipe around the outside to clean the inside (but this is only if you over-illuminate). By the way, the life expectancy is supposedly around 2 3 years, and EcoSphere also has a nice replacement/recharge program. One final note, to elevate the sphere on my desk, I took a good-looking coffee cup, inverted it, put some clear silicone on it, and stuck the sphere to it. Looks real nice and now my shrimp buddies can get a better view of my distinguished countenance and me theirs ... or maybe I am scaring the heck out of them. Hmmm...

I have been looking at these, and considering them for years now. Never could bite the bullet and buy one though. I got a gift card for Christmas, and thought now would be the perfect opportunity.

Honestly, for the price, I was expecting something larger. If nothing more than just a larger sphere with more water to make it feel more substantial. It is approximately the size of a softball. I will try to update the review after I have had it a few weeks. My plan is to keep it on my office desk. I can't seem to keep a plant alive. Hopefully, I have better luck with this.

I didn't see it posted anywhere before purchasing, but be warned. You have to get overnight shipping. Obviously, they want to make sure it isn't sitting in some delivery truck in the hot/cold for an extended period of time. For me that added $20 to the price. Basically, my gift card ended up paying for shipping.

Tuffy's Ultimate Bone Dog Toy

Tuffy's Ultimate Bone Dog Toy, Pink LeopardMy one year old medium sized dog destuffed this toy in under three minutes. The seams are the weak point. When I wrote to customer service about this (and directed them to posted pics of the process on my web site), I got a nasty response with a hint of threat about the posted pics that said that the toy is "not a chew toy." (The advertising said, "for dogs who chew their toys.")

I have an 8mos old border collie mix that is the strongest chewer I've ever owned. Thankfully he only chews on his toys! Unfortunately it makes if very hard for us to find things that can withstand his jaws. I was so hopeful with this one. He had the sides chewed off in 15 minutes. I'm not lying. The stuffing was ripped out before I knew it, and within this mass of white cloud was one of the squeakers which they market as being triple wrapped in "tuff" material to keep it in the toy. He really did LOVE this toy though, I'll give them that but it definitely did NOT hold up at all.

If your dog is a big time chewer, don't get this toy it just won't last. I've had the best luck with a sherpa dragon that at least lasted about 5 days before I had to throw it out.

This toy only lasted 2 weeks before my dog tore it up. Also, seller says product is guaranteed, I contacted the seller via email thru Amazon asking about the warrany/guarantee and never got a response back. Very strong-looking toy. Appears well made. Nice plush outer shell and rugged-feeling build.

Gave this to a 9-month old St. Bernard mix. She mono-focuses on one part of a toy and works on it as long as it takes (usually a few minutes) to get to stuffing. This Tuffy toy (rated 8 on the 10 tuffy scale) was opened-up to reveal stuffing in about 10 minutes.

This toy may be for rough play time, but not for chewing. Get a hard rubber toy and leave this one for fetch.

P.S. Dog LOVES IT!

Squeaky Dudes Peace Rubber Toy, SmallThis toy is fantastic, my large english bull terrier takes seconds to destroy squeaky toys.... usually.

However this one is still squeaking away after weeks of concerted effort from him.

Worth ten times it's cost as my Reg no longer has that disappointed expression & I no longer have my arm down his throat fishing the bits out.

A very heavy duty toy, ideal for destructive hard mouthed dogs.

I would happily buy another but don't think I will ever need to!

Aqueon Hang-On Overflow Box

Aqueon 34508 Hang-On Overflow Box, 125-GallonI got this overflow as I was looking for a cheap alternative to drilling my existing tank.

Pros:

Works as described

Good capacity (Can not validate 2200 GPH clam as I only us a 900GPH pump)

Easy to setup

So far has not lost siphon

dual drain, great if one get clogged and can handle a lot of water

Cons:

Black acrylic would have been better for the in tank part as algae will quickly rune the appearance of the clear acrylic.

Drain connector could be better. I would have rather screw on type, these ones require a clamp and rely on fiction.

Overall I am very happy.

It works great when you first start it. After ONE day the filter gets dirty. I don't care how clean your tank looks. The filter gets dirty fast and you have to clean it. If you don't the siphon slows down and the return pump you have in your sump is now too powerful. Clean the filter and your back in business. Kinda sucks after you do it everyday almost.

I don't know if buying the carbon in a one pack is the same as buying it in the 3 pack, but the 3 pack carbon I bought from Aquaclear had an eerie odor when I opened the packages. I would suggest that people buy their own activated carbon in bulk and pack it yourself in these nylon bags that you can buy separately for about three dollars.

2 ×Aquarium Fish Tank Silicone Sea Anemone Artificial Coral Ornament MI403

2 ×Aquarium Fish Tank Silicone Sea Anemone Artificial Coral Ornament MI403These were a nice addition to the tank. They do not require a great deal of effort to place them especially if you have a small tank.

These little (emphasis on little) ornaments are great. They look just as advertised and are a nice addition to my tank. The only thing I was unhappy with is how small they are. They say 3.9 inches high, but they are more like 2.5. Maybe the very top edge of a frond sticks up 4 inches high, but I seriously doubt it.

Acurel E250 Millimeter Pond Clarifier, Treats 2,650 Gallons

Acurel E250 Millimeter Pond Clarifier, Treats 2,650 GallonsThis stuff works! It took about two weeks and three treatments, I was beginning to lose hope, but one day I went out to the pond and I could see the bottom! We have a 100 gallon pond with waterfall, and the raccoons have been fouling it. It is perfectly clear now, and we have no filter in the pond, just the waterfall. It didn't harm the tadpoles or mosquitos (darn). No more green sludge.

It just took time to do it's work. I would recomend this to anyone that has a grungy pond.

API Algae Eater Alage Wafer

API Algae Eater Alage Wafer, 6.4-OunceEverything that is supposed to eat these things will eat it but it made the whole downstairs of my house smell horrible. I thought I had a major problem in my 40 gallon breeder until I figured out these wafers were the problem. I tossed some in at night and woke up, went downstairs and halfway down I could already smell it. I did a 20% water change and it was gone withing a day. Took me about a month to finally realize what the problem was.

My plecos this particular brand of wafers. Almost as much as they enjoy zucchini slices. I have noticed that unlike some algae wafers on the market, these don't cloud the water as much or promote tons of alea to grow. These also seem to improve the coloring of my plecos, that are dark chocolate with tan circles, making them look bolder and healthy. These seem to promote growth....mine are approximately 8 in and in really good condition. The only drawback is that my goldfish, that is about 1 foot and a half, loves them too.

Safety Siphon - Safe Multi-Purpose Self Priming Pump

Safety Siphon - Safe Multi-Purpose Self Priming PumpThis video review was made by my husband.

He purchased this on Amazon and is very easy to use and fast.

He made this video review because there is too many people who say they cant get it to work, and its just too simple!

This, at its most basic, is a foot valve at the end of a hose. How it works:

1. The foot valve prevents liquid in the hose from flowing out that end.

2. Each time you push the end with the valve down into liquid, more liquid enters the hose but cannot flow back out.

3. When enough liquid has entered the hose and the top of the liquid in the hose is below the valve (the end in the liquid) gravity takes over and your liquid will flow into the an empty container which is at a lower level than the full container.

The proper technique then is not to "shake" the end in the liquid but to push it down into the liquid so that each time it goes into the liquid, more enters the hose.

The foot valve does not form a perfect seal when you pull the end out of the liquid, so a little will flow back out. The key then is to push it down and pull it out fairly rapidly.

Used correctly, this is a brilliant product which I have used frequently over the past 2 years and which my mechanic had previously recommended to me. And it is even cheaper now than when I bought it. The instructions suck though.

I haven't used this yet in a "real" situation (i.e. siphoning gas from a neighbor's car). But I did try siphoning water from my sink to my bathtub.

As others have noted, it was tricky to get this siphon to work especially in shallow liquid. But after a little practice, suddenly it worked pretty well.

I found it worked best when I moved the hose really straight in an up/down motion as opposed to just shaking it hopefully.

I think the good thing about this siphon is its overall simplicity. It's basically a hose, making it pretty durable and also easy to clean.

The downside is that the ball bearing inside doesn't create a great seal. Hence if you stop shaking the hose, the fluid will flow back into the source tank pretty quickly.

I was looking for more information before purchasing this product, but never found the description I needed. In case someone else wants it, the tubing is 6 feet long which seems to be enough for what I will want. It also says it can be attached to a garden hose with a 1/2" adapter. The tubing has an inside diameter of about 1/2", and the packaging claims it will siphon up to 3 1/2 gallons a minute. It says it can siphon gas, diesel and kerosene as well as water or oil and should be cleaned thoroughly before storage. Even after cleaning, I would get separate siphons before using the same one for different uses.

I hesitated to buy this, my experience with gimmick items tends to be negative.

This safety siphon really gets the job done. I do a lot of 4Wheeling and often have to use 2 5 gallon Jerry Cans of extra fuel in my outings. The new models with the Carb approved spout are extremely slow to pour out the gas, and they also tend to spill when you angle it to empty out the fuel. Plus it was painful to have to carry these things as they slowly poured out. I really needed a solution, and not one that involved changing neoprene gaskets every few weeks.

Enter safety siphon. I saw the videos of it working, but still was hesitant, but I figured anything is better than having to do this gassing up by hand. So, I took the plunge, when I got it, I practiced emptying out my bathroom sink with it into my bathtub. Had somewhat of a hard time getting it to work. After playing with it, I realized what I was doing wrong. Because it was shallow, it was harder to begin with, but I was stopping too early before I hear a continuous "clicking" sound from the ball inside the priming pump moving up and down on its own. Second, I had the hose too high to allow the flow to reach to the downward part of the hose so that when gravity pulled it down, it would start the vacuuming process.

So, I repositioned the hose to have a more downward decline to it, and I started shaking it up again. I immediately see the water starting to flow through the hose, it got some air in there, but I keep shaking it, and then I started to hear rapid clicking from the inside ball once the water in the hose had reached the downward slope, and it started flowing out of there pretty fast.

The neat thing is, it is a vacuum at that point, and you can suck out all the liquid with it all the way until it is empty and you hear what sounds like someone finishing up the last bit of a soft drink with a straw.

Later I got to test it on my jerry cans, boy was it a lot easier to dump out the fuel on these. It took me less than 2 minutes to empty each 5 gallon can. I am very happy with this product, no spills, no having to lift the heavy cans and hold them there for the roughly 5 minutes it would take to empty one out. I highly recommend it, and don't get frustrated during the learning process. I almost did!

Cat Dancer 803 Whisker Chasers Interactive Cat Toy, 2-Pack

Cat Dancer 803 Whisker Chasers Interactive Cat Toy, 2-PackGeorge is finicky. I bout the cat dancer toy with the wire and ended up adding it to the cat house he plays with that all the time. Then I bought these two "replacements" for the cat dancer and ended up attaching one to the cat house with stretchy cord and he loves loves loves it and the other one I added to the end of the cat dancer want toy with the long bit of multi colored material. It went from being an "ok" toy to one he will chase non stop. I just cut a small slit in the felt material and threaded the cord/material through it. He tries to pull the toy off the house and off the end of wand toy and thus far, it hasn't torn the material at all. I haven't had any problems with them hitting him in the eyes or hurting him.

I got these toys as a fun treat for my 7 month old cats. The "legs" on them are so stiff and the felt is cheaply attached the kittens can easily tear them apart if allowed to. We used these on a piece of soft leather cord and hung them from off the back on our kitchen chairs. The loved them till it flung around and caught my girl cat in the eye. I'm glad it was not attached to the cat dancer wire like it's supposed to be or my cat may have gone blind.. This is not something I would ever buy again and they ended up in the trash.

I bought so many toys for my kitten, but she completely adores these little ones. She likes the cat dancer from the same company too. I took it away and give it to her to play as a treat. She loves to toss it and chase it in the floor. It does not work well in carpets though.
