one thing to keep in mind is that you will need to rinse this at least a few times (i rinse like 6x) as there is a lot of carbon dust initially. other than that, still loving my aquaclear 50, easy to use, don't have to switch out all the parts each cleaning and water change, can't complain. was recommended by my local fish guy and i agree, the best filter for the $.Read Best Reviews of Aquaclear Activated Carbon Insert, 50-Gallon Aquariums, 3-Pack Here

Fish & Aquatic Supplies Mag - Drive 7 Water Pump (700Gph)
Used it for my refugium.very silent and powerful .perfect for a 72 gallon tankCorrect, the picture does not look exactly like the item (google Danner Supreme MagDrive 7 for actual photos and price comparison). Easily places in-sump for underwater delivery. For optimal flow, it is suggested to connect the outlet to a 1/2"-to-1" pvc adapter, making the return line 1" in diameter instead. This pump does make some vibration noise, which was easily minimized by taking aquarium grade clear silicone and simply making a 'web' of lines underneath for form a cushion of silicone to sit on.

Red Sea Fish Pharm ARE50203 C-Skim 1800 Advanced Protein Skimmer for Aquarium
I did notice that if you restrict the airflow with the built-in valve, the aspiration pump gets extremely noisy. That said, don't try and run this skimmer with much more than a 450 gph pump. Any more and you will start to have water in your skimmer cup (this is not good) even if you have the return completely unrestricted. A 400-450 gph pump is recommended by the manufacturer.
For anyone who is concerned about leaks on with the aspiration pump, I have had none. I'll bet anyone who has failed to install the o-ring with the pump. (It is in a separate baggie with the pump)
I love the features automatic neck cleaner and the ability to remove the skimmer cup without shutting down the main pump. I always hated having to unplug my skimmer pump just to empty the cup.
All in all, it does what it is supposed to, but the aspiration pump is a bit louder than I had hoped for. If you are trying to make your setup as quiet as possible, this is not the skimmer for you. I will be putting my aspiration pump on a timer to get around the noise issue.I have been in reef aquaria keeping for some time (20+ years) and have owned several skimmers. Each has its own needs as far as water input, cleaning and foam production levels inside the skimmer to be effective at skimming dissolved solids from your aquarium. But few are so simple as to plug the unit in connect two hoses and in few hours have a quality foam head.
I found the Red Sea 1800 skimmer worked perfectly from the moment I plugged it in and produced a foam head as good as reef octopus or ASM skimmers and far better than Aqua C or Beckett skimmers (note: Older tech which were great in there day) which require a large GPH pump to drive the unit for foam production.
Some of the items on the unit like the neck wash are a good idea but you will find they will not work well if your foam production is good. The neck will fill with so much waste material that it will cake the sides of the skimmer neck and it will not wash off easily depending on the height you set your foam head at. But the option to divert the water when you wish to remove the cup is very good and very useful.
Here is a breakdown of the pros and cons of this unit
Pros -
1. Exceptional foam production from the internal recirculation pump due to good air to water ratio
2. The need to purchase a large supply pump is not needed for the unit. You could supply the unit with less than the recommended supply and it will just spend more time in the unit getting skimmed more.
3. Unit is not hard to break down for cleaning
4. Very large collection cup. Even with a large amount of waist the cup will go 3-4 days before it fills on medium wet/dry foam. Also the cup is very easy to remove and secure back in place
5. Can be used in sump or external
Cons -
1. Unit is rather big, won't fit in small sumps. Just a thought here you could always build a container supplied by the overflow as an intermediate sump to contain the skimmer. This would always keep the skimmer level the same even when evaporation has lowered your true sump. But it might not look good depending how your setup is. I did this and also placed my GFO and Bio pellet unit inside.
2. Unit has a very small neck so if your water source level is in constant flux due to evaporation you may have issues keeping the foam head at the level you want.
3. Cleaning neck process is a good thought but does not work well in real life.
4. I thought the connection to the intake could have been a little better. I took the screw on connection off and placed a hose clamp on. You don't want this to come off or your whole tank could be on the floor.
5. Even if used in sump it will take another pump to supply water that is not supplied with the unit. This is an extra expense that some units that are comparable in skimming do not need but would be required on all recirculation skimmers whoever you buy from
6. Although I love the unit I would not feel comfortable running it on a 450 gallon aquarium no matter what it is stocked with. It just can't process enough water no matter what they say.
To finish I can't comment on Red Sea customer service but I can't see much need to contact them. A skimmer like this has only a few items that would go bad and all those parts are available from online web dealers. It's built solid and could probably take some abuse. The cons here were small issues that should be noted before purchase. On a regular size tank under say 250 gallons this unit should work well but is a little pricey since it needs another pump to run. If you can find it at a discount I would say absolutely buy but for the full asking price it's a stretch.

The package contains two of the standard durable Nylabones. Another post states one of the two bones is the edible type, but that is not accurate as far as I can tell. Got these about a month ago, and my black lab loves his. He's still working on the first one (bacon flavored), the edges are roughed up as expected and occasionally I find little pieces of the plastic around the floor, but he carries this thing everywhere. He's 60lbs of chewing puppy teeth and this is perfect for him. Anything that keeps him distracted from chewing other things in my house, like pillows, clothes, shoes, and towels.Only downside is when he decides to show mommy his toy a little too close and I get scratched (usually in the face or arm) with the bone, but that's to be expected.

Reef One Biorb Silk Plants

biOrb makes the absolute best faux plants for aquariums. They look so natural and real. This item was shipped to me very fast as well. I am very happy with this product!I have two african dwarf frogs and they love to hide. My three gallon tank is wider than it is tall; these frogs have to swim to the top to breathe. These plants are strong enough for them to rest on, so they can go to the top of the tank easier. They love having more places to hide as well! These plants are really pretty, and they don't float up at all (so low maintenance!)I have these plants in my ten gallon and my Betta, Flotsom loves them. They are soft and safe for Betta's fragile fins. The smaller Green one looks very realistic. The weighted base is extremely useful in keeping them rooted in the substrate. Love, Love, Love this product.Tuesday, December 24, 2013

Finnex 150-Watt Hang-On Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater, Titanium Tube, 30 to 60-Gallon
I assumed the heater was the same except for the controller. Either this is not the case, I got a dud, or Finnex is just not building them like they used to.I'd give this unit '0' stars if I could!
I have wasted my money on two of these units. I thought it was a nice feature to have the temperature control on the outside of my tank. Nice idea but the unit only works correctly for a very short time, (2-3 months at best). I expected allot more for an aquarium heater as expensive as this one. When the first unit failed, I thought maybe I just had a "Lemon". Now that the second unit has failed as well, I know this is what you get with this product. I was lucky to not loose any fish because I monitor the temperature regularly. Good thing, or I would have cooked my fish. THIS HEATER IS JUNK! Don't waste your money. Don't expect any help from Finnex. All they do is give you the run-around! I will never buy a Finnex product again. This heater worked fine for the first month or so after I bought it. Then it started heating my tank to 90+ degrees when I had it set for 72. It has completely lost the ability to regulate its output. Do not buy this if you would like to keep your fish from bing cooked.

Finnex Digital Temperature Control Glass Heater, 100-Watt
What you get is a modern looking heater with a very nice and easy to read screen which shows the current water temperature, but when you are setting your desired temp it will show the temp you desire and then switch back to the current temperature of the water. This heater appears to be of very high quality construction. Very solid ends, suction cups and even the power cord is just nicer. Everything about it shouts quality. However this is no indicator as to how long it will perform, which in the past for many other heater brands I've owned (Tetra, Marineland, DeepBlue and Marina) is about 6 months or so.
Pros: Appears to be built very well, from the digital screen to the power cord. I love the way it looks. The screen is very easy to read, a plus for me since I do not see so well. I like how you set it by simply pressing a button on top until you reach your desired temperature. I really prefer this method of setting the desired temperature over the knobs on most other heaters which you must twist to set the temperature which may or may not have markings and most are very hard to see while the heater is still in the aquarium, but not so with the digital screen on this one. I can also attest that my heater's thermostat matches my thermometer perfectly, rare with aquarium heaters in my experience so far.
Cons: Has a separate temperature probe, which helps maintain overall water temperature more accurately (a plus) but some might see it as unsightly (a con). It doesn't bother me at all, it is small and high quality like the rest of the heater.
At this point I would recommend this product with the only hesitation being that I do not know how long it will last, but if it lasts 6 or so months, then it is on par with other brands I've had many of in the past and I prefer these over them. Hopefully it will last for years, or at least a couple years. I'll try to remember to update this review on the longevity of the heater.
I current have 8 aquarium up and running in my home.

Red Sea Prizm Deluxe Hang On Skimmer
I finally gave up and purchased an Aqua-C Remora Pro. The Remora worked perfectly right out of the box! The Remora doesn't need adjustments, which is a good thing, there is nothing to adjust.I used this skimmer for about 10 months. It was horrible. The plastic is too dark to properly set the microbubble level. Many, many times I thought I had it set correctly, only to find it had overflowed a 1/2 hour later. It NEVER collected much, even when I was lucky enough to have set it correctly. Towards the end, it kept losing siphon, so it would run maybe 3 hours before it stopped pulling in any water to skim. I switched to a Coralife skimmer, and in 2 days, I swear I had collected more skimmate than in the previous 10 months combined. It was a huge waste of money.
Buy Red Sea Prizm Deluxe Hang On Skimmer Now
I bought a used Prizm skimmer from a fellow member of my Reef Club. I installed it on a 10 Gallon nano reef that I set up. I had problems adjusting the flow (either too much and pumping microbubbles into tank, lucky break: it skims great for awhile or no suction for any apparent reason). This skimmer was used and had been broken and repaired. I decided that maybe the previous damage was the source of my problem. So I ordered a new one.I installed the new skimmer on my 30-Gallon reef. At first it worked ok. It never produced much skimmate. Yet I had enough dissolved organics in the tank to support a healthy hair algae outbreak. Three months later and I'm again fighting loss of suction, overflowing collection cup and/or tons of microbubbles discharged into the tank.
I took the skimmer apart, replaced all O-rings and tubing. Skimmer worked so-so for another 2-3 months and then problems started again. Neither new or used skimmer ever worked very well. If it couldn't keep up on a 30-Gallon, there's no way it can keep up on the capacity rating of 100-Gallons.
For @$125 new, I would say I didn't even got what I paid for. Save the money, do more research and buy a real skimmer.

After having so many used tanks I decided with my tax return, I would buy EVERYTHING new. I wouldn't have someone elses used choices, I would make a system that was uniquely MINE.I chose all my parts carefully based on features I wanted for my own tank and disregarded reviews. OOPS!
I chose this skimmer. And I have regretted it. ever. since. It had NO instructions for how to get it to start sucking up the water so it took forever to figure it out (you have to put the little black tube on one opening until it starts sucking then quickly switch it to the other opening to create bubbles....). the 'deluxe' surface skimmer clip broke in less than a week, it's a joke. I've had it 9 months and it's been off for 3 at least, I just removed it from the tank the other day. Everytime I would plug it in it would skim for a few hours and then I would come in and it would be running dry and not be sucking water anymore. it constantly fills my 40 gallon with tiny bubbles. the carbon media container got stuck and refused to come out when I wanted to change it so I didn't get it out until I pried it out after taking the skimmer off my tank. this skimmer STINKS! It NEVER skimmer well, needed constant adjusting, because an adjustment that works one day suddenly wont be working the next... just AWFUL! Lee's counter current $20 skimmer works better than this! Oh, and it's loud!
