Quiet One Lifegard Aquarium Pump, 296-Gallon Per Hour

I have been a manager for a retail petstore for 15 yrs. I have extensive knowledge in aquatic life. Our store has purchased these pumps for commercial use as well as for customer purchase. We will no longer carry lifeguard products due to the lack of quality and lack of customer service. These quiet one pumps are made with plastic shafts instead of stainless steel shafts. When you have a power outage and then the power surge kicks back on the shaft cracks.When you call lifeguard they refuse to correct the problem and tell you to send it back at your own cost. A man named Neil works there and will not even consider any type of compensation for these pumps and also will not hesitate to hang up on you.These pumps will not last you more than a year the shafts will crack.I know because i have many upset customers with these pumps. Be aware that you may give this good ratings when first purchased but you will not be happy in the long run.

Worked great for my reef. It was used as the sump pump for 1 year with no problems. I took it apart a few times to clean it. It kept itself pretty clean and never clogged. It also started right up for a few power failures we had during the year. It was used in a 20g sump/refugium underneath a 29g display, with hang on back overflow. This was perfect for the filtration flow I was looking for in the sump (filter sock, baffles, low flow refugium and roughly 4 feet of head pressure). In the display I still had a little flow from a powerhead and BakPak2 skimmer. I've upgraded (but downsized) to a nanocube. If I ever get a large tank again, I will definitely get another one of these pumps.

I have owned two of these model pumps and both have died for no apparent reason. I use them to pump water during water changes and they are not on consistently, each time they died after about 3 months of intermittent use. When plugged in they make no noises or attempts to turn. Maybe they work well for people who use them in a different way, but for me personally I'm going to steer clear of Quiet Ones in the future.

Either I got a defective unit or the description of it's performance is misleading. I wanted to use it as a replacement pump in a fountain. It's described as 6.1' max head height and 296 gph. My fountain is about 4 feet high and uses 1/2 diameter tubing. No water came out the top. Placed the pump in a pail of water fully submerged and had it set to max flow. It only pumped water to a height of about 6 inches. On the Lifegard website more detailed information is given and it says it pumps a max of 175 gph at a height of 4 feet. So I'm unsure what the issue it is, but it fell woefully short of the performance described by the manufacturer and interpreted by me.

On a datasheet on their website another set of figures is given for the 1200. It must be flow rates with head heights converted from metric because feet are listed with fractions of a ft. In any case it says flow rate of 0 (zero) gph at 6.1 ft. That's a lot different than what's printed on the box! But that I can believe, zero gallons at 6.1 feet.

I stopped using carbon in my tanks, as I was tired of paying twenty or thirty bucks for a couple pounds of carbon. Then, I saw this and thought too good to be true, but if it does not work I am only out 5 bucks. Well, it works! It has only been in my tanks for a few hours and the water clarity is already amazing. Also, that slight odor that even a well cycled and maintained tank can develop is fading, gotta love that!

Update: I used some of the carbon in my newt tank, and have seen a huge increase in their activity level (never seen newts this active). They apparently love the improved water conditions.

Also, I tried a little in the cat's litter box, and was very happy with the results. Bottom line. . . it is good stuff!!

I use activated carbon in my aquarium filters and in my koi pond filters as a chemical filter to help clear the water, remove odor, and remove ammonia and nitrites. I simply place the carbon inside bath scouring balls, which help with the mechanical and biological part of the filtering, and then just place the carbon-filled scouring ball or balls in the filters. We look for anything healthy that will keep our Golden Doodle puppy busy. These pressed bully bones are one of his favorites. I had the lower-power version of this sterilizer ("Advantage 2000"; a 7w unit) for several years before the bulb finally died. My local aquarium store mistakenly sold me the higher power Advantage 2000+ 15w bulb. A call to Aqua indicated that I could not reliably run the 15w bulb from the 7w transformer (I supposed as much), so I ordered the 15w transformer to match the new bulb and it works just great. I have a 150 gal aquarium and although the 7w bulb did keep the algae at bay, I figured the 15watter should do a little better; it certainly took me from opaque green to crystal clear water in about a week.

This product operates exactly as specified, that is, the lights turn on around sunset and turn off around sunrise. Nonetheless the product is disappointing and poorly conceived for at least two reasons. First, a different colored lens is supplied for EACH of the three lighting fixtures making it impossible to create a glow of a single hue. Instead, one blue, one yellow and one red lens is supplied. Second, the wiring between the light fixtures is permanently installed by the manufacturer who cautions buyers against changing this wiring. Without changing that wiring the product cannot be installed in a customized manner. It seems likely that the people who designed this product have not installed it in more than one or two settings. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if YOU ARE NOT MODERATELY HANDY with WIRING and if you ARE UNWILLING TO DISREGARD THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

These lights work well in a small water feature, but could certainly benefit from longer cords between lamps. They sometimes stay on during cloudy days. Photo cell to control on-after-dark feature is located on the bottom of the transformer which puts it in the shade.

These lights work just fine in my 10 x 8 koi pond. I placed them in the middle at the bottom. I pointed one at each end and left the one in the middle shine up to the top. Not to bright but just enough. For the price you can't beat them. Even my fish like them!

I purchased these lights less than 6 months ago and one by one, all the lights burned out. I'm going to have to contact Laguna to get them replaced. Also the cord connecting the 3 lights is way too short to accomplish anything fancy in my small 1000gal Koi pond!

Love this light set up. I have it in a very small pond, 50 gallons with shower fountain. It looks like hot lava! This would not be for medium or large ponds, unless you just wanted to highlight a waterfall or small fountain. The lights are small and so is the distance between each one. The price you can't beat, but I wish it was a solar unit. We're going to put it on an outdoor timer to save on energy though the night.

I bought two of these refill foam pad 3-pack boxes for a Fluval C2 5 stage filter system for my kid's aquarium (along with other maintenance items). The entire filter system is top notch. HOWEVER, CHECK THE PACKAGE TO MAKE SURE IT CONTAINS THREE PADS!

Both the box and the description stated that it was a 3-pack, but BOTH boxes only contained 2 pads. There was plenty of room for the third. I find it very odd that both would be short one pad. This seems out of the realm of realistic possibility as far as packaging errors go, but I guess it is possible.

Amazon sent me another box, no hassle. This is the first time I've had a problem with an Amazon product and I am frankly amazed by their customer service. I did not have to send six emails and get worthless auto responses or call and play prompt lottery, explain my story nine times then get hung up on, etc. A rep called me and just took care of it within 3 minutes. This is unheard of these days. I'm very happy with my experience, however I only gave 4 stars due to the quantity issue.

I bought these thinking i would have to replace them often like alot of the newer filter pads. But so far I'm still on my first one, i have rinsed it out many times and it still holds it's form. Since this filter has bio media, i take the filter pad over to my sink and spray it off really good with the dish sprayer (or what ever you call the mini garden hose like attachment sinks have). Just make sure to get the chlorinated water out of it before placing it back into your filter. (i just squish mine with a towel to dry it a bit)

This is a review for the Moon Rover Rescue toy. While touted as one of their more durable toys, I found the plush toys to be more durable than this!

I bought this as a replacement puzzle toy for one of my dogs, who adores plush toys and puzzle toys. The second dog I have is more destructive and you really have to watch him with toys. I was hopeful that the plastic would hold up better and the plush-lover would get more enjoyment out of his toy before it would get destroyed.

The moon rover was much too difficult to get into (or out of) the moon; neither dog was able to retrieve it. Within 30 minutes chunks of the moon were missing and the front part of the rover was chewed off as well. Even though we're thorough, we were picking up chunks of blue plastic around the play area for a few days. This purchase was a complete waste of $20.

The concept of this toy is really great. Ive been looking for something for my aussie to play with that will keep her occupied and that she cant destroy in 2 minutes. This one took her 5 minutes to destroy. the big rubber ball should be made a little tougher-out of what...i dont know. $20 down the drain.

Rocky loves all types of squeaky toys but this one is the best, he has hours of fun trying to get the rover out of the moon ball. Hagen Nutrafin Max Cichlid Granules, Medium, 19.4-Ounce

When I received this item the inner foil was opened most of the way and the lid was partly off. Over half of the product was spilled in the box. I always expect it to take a while for my fish to get used to a food, but I have an Angel Fish that really hasn't warmed up to it. It's been a week and she's just starting to eat. I hope she gets to where she actually likes it, or I'm gonna have to buy something else. Seeing as this was a $20 container, I really don't want to do that.

Update Nov 23, 2012: I'm now happy with this product. It was still a bummer that it came in the condition it did, but my fish seem to like it now. I've been feeding my Angels a different food, but my Jewel Cichlids, Jack Dempseys, and Green Severum seem to really like it.

I had set up a 55 gal tank and the water remained cloudy for almost two weeks. I was told just be patient as the water needs to stabilize. I waited. And waited. Finally I thought the water should have cleared so I began using products claiming to clear cloudy water. No luck. Until I used Acurel F. I was blown away. Within an hour the tank was crystal clear. Truly amazing stuff. Use this product. It really works!!! I've been using this, and only this, for almost 8 yrs. now. For that just polished look you won't find anything better.

Provided you use it as directed, to clear silt or dust from the water column...this is a great flocculant for aquariums. It binds small particles together into larger particles that your filter can more easily handle. I always use it after a large water change, since I tend to disrupt things with the addition of the new water.

Not as fast as it said it would, so I added more drops as directed. We lost 6 fish in the process (Two guppies and 4 head and tail light tetras.) I don't know that I can blame it on this product as the tank was getting pretty bad. It is now crystal clear and has remained that way.

For the reason of losing the fish I would not add more. If it doesn't clear up as fast as they say, be patient and give it 24 hours.

UPDATE: Have used this again but only put in 1/4 to 1/2 of recommended dose, a day apart...works like a charm under those circumstances. Still does not work as fast as they, seems to work best overnight, fish are fine.

My tank wasn't too bad but still was not satisfied with the clarity and wanted it to be more clear. After adding only 15ml's of this and an hour later the haziness that I was complaining about, cleared up. I only put 15ml's in it which is only half the amount I should have put inside a 275 gallon tank. After adding it in it did make it more cloudy which made me stop adding and just waited, which I guess was enough. Now I am satisfied with how clear the water is, definitely makes a huge difference and the product is cheap.

I have exotic gold fish in my pond and I use this food any time my fish reproduce and I have baby goldfish swimming around. At first, the little fish are afraid to come to the surface in my presence and can't swallow the bigger pellets that I feed the adults even if they did come up, so while the adult fish are eating their pellets, I sprinkle in these granules that slowly sink down. At first the baby fish just eat them off the bottom, but as they get used to the routine they start swimming up to get the granules before they hit bottom. Eventually, they are all swarming at the top together looking for granules and pellets as they are all trained to come at the approach of a person to get their meal now. The only problem is that the adults love this food too so you need to put in enough for both! I continue to use this food inside in the aquarium if the babies are still too small for pellets when I bring them in for the winter.

When I started to use these as a boots to the growth of my vegetation, I didn't realize that it could help that much. I had all kinds of algae growth in the tank.

Let me 1st start off by saying techically the light is a 5 start product! I have NO problem with the light, works perfect with my MH fixture. The low stars are because the person(s) who is packaging these puts the light in a long box, tapes it, and shipped it, WITHOUT ANY packaging material (no paper, no foam, etc.). Of course, when you ship a light bulb without any 'cushioning' it arrives broken in pieces. My order was for ONE bulb, but they had to re-ship it 4 TIMES because it kept showing up broken because none of the packages contained packaging.

1st buld shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

2nd bulb shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

3rd bulb shattered NO packaging (amazon re-shipped)

4th bulb arriced undamged still NO packaging (LUCKY)

I'm a prime member so all these were shipped 2nd day so this process took a little over a week to finally get a undamaged one. However, if you are a normal member and pick the free shipping and keep getting broken lights this could be a month process (depending on what Amazon would do for you) I provided feedback on the shipping (lack of packaging) on every light but it did not make a difference. I even called Amazon (reps were great), but they said it would take a couple weeks for them to make contact with the warehouse to straighten it out.

I hope Amazon has or will correct this issue soon as they light is great and at a great price. If Amazon address this issue (and lets me know) I will be more than happy to up my stars to 5 for the actual product.
