Tetra Hexagon Aquarium Kit with LED Bubbler, 1-Gallon

I bought this tank for my newly purchased betta Kane. It caught my eye at another retailer and I grabbed it. Setting this tank up was easy, it looked nice and Kane seemed to like it. Now to the.. pros and cons list.

Now, his death is still a mystery.. my cat had a wet paw and he was gone. The clear lid sort of snaps into place on the tank, nice.. and it was firmly on. However, the 'feeding' hole is exposed with no cover, and is over 1 inch in diameter. That leaves ample room for a hopping fish.. or hungry cat.. to cause problems.

The filter lid is only held on by a flimsy hinge and kept popping off.. no biggie, but kind of annoying. Also the filters need to be replaced like every 2 weeks, which is a little often, but needed.

the LED light is beautiful, it really is.. also makes it next to impossible to see your fish unless they glow in the dark. It does take up a fair bit of space in the bottom of the tank, so makes placing plants very difficult to say the least.

The air pump is strong, super strong.. so strong in fact, I had to keep the pressure dialed down on both the airstone/light and the filter to keep poor Kane from getting thrown around his tank.

All in all, I'll probably use it again if I decide to get another fish. Right now I'm sort of fed up with it and the whole vanishing fish ordeal that I might look into something better, or at the very least.. tape over that feeding hole to keep my cats from getting nosy again.

Two electric cords, two plastic tubes all coming out of the top of the small tank. Very messy!!! Also no where to put the filter motor. Very messy for a desk top. Cords and tubes everywhere.

I bought this tank for my betta fish. He loves it compared of what has been living in at walmart. He swims all over this 1 gallon tank! I bought this because I never owned an aquarium before and I thought it will be a start to owning bigger ones. To know how to clean them and take good care of your pets. Now I like reviewing fish equipment and this time I got to review this tank. I have to say it is pretty good tank over all with the exception that it needs a light as the bubbler is insufficient.

Ok first the whisper air pump, true to it's name as it is the quietest pump I've ever not heard. ;) Now the filter, it's good but a little noisy as it likes to "gurgle". Fianlly the tank itself is like I said alright, it has a small footprint so it's good for a desktop. The lid does have a tendency to no close completely but unless you're keeping something that move it it's nothing to worry about.

Now I could go into what you should or shouldn't keep in it but I'm not you. I'm keeping feeder snails and a plant in it and it is serving it's purpose exceedingly well for me. So overall I give it 5 stars, it would be 4 1/2 for the bad lid but I'll bump it up because it's not that big a issue.

I must start by saying this is my second attempt on a betta tank. First tank was "recommended" by the pet store clerk and was a small cheap tank no frills. My First fish lasted 2 months in that tank. Unfortunately, cleaning can be difficult with the smaller cheap tanks, and my betta died. :( So my next trip to the pet store I was more prepared. I shelled out big bucks buying a new fish, tank, rocks, filters, thermometer, decorations etc. It took me about 45 mins to get the tank set up and water temp right. I put my betta in a bag and let him float in the water to acclimate him to the water temp. But, once I let him out of the bag, the current from the bubble/filter system was too strong for the little guy. So I shut the bubbles/filter off completely. Making the whole point of buying this particular tank pointless. I wanted a filter so I could clean the tank less then every 5-7 days. I want to take good care of my fish but I'm also busy and don't have time to clean a fish tank every 5 days. If you're the looking for easy maintenance skip this tank. Also, after doing more research online, most sites say that betta fish should be kept in a minimum of 5 gallons with a filter and a heater. I guess with a larger tank the current isn't so strong and the fish can thrive. I fully commit when I purchase a pet and try to give them the best quality of life. I'm extremely disappointed since I spent nearly $60 plus dollars all together and will have to go back and purchase another tank. Maybe this is a good tank for another type of fish? Not so great for betta owners.

Marina Naturals Pennywort Silk Plant

This plant does not appear to cut the fish or their tails as some plastic plants can. It moves naturally in the water and provides good cover for the fish.

It's a silk plant. It doesn't do much but decorate my tank and it's a nice size I like that it takes up a good size of my ten gallon tank for my Black double tail plakat. He enjoys swimming around the bottom of the plant. Not the softest edges but it hasn't torn his fins in the water. I'd buy again.

This and a couple short spine sea urchins did the trick. I had a Huge green hair algae out brake. Now 6 weeks later I have no sign of anything but happy fish and beautiful sps & lps coral.

At this point not sure if is doing its job or how long I have to wait...but I still have a hair algae problem even with three times the require dosage.

This stuff works great for quickly removing high-levels of phosphates, but once you have that under control I highly recommend removing this and replacing it with a bag of Chemi Pure Elite. The PhosBan cakes up, causes channeling (inefficient flow thru) and can break-apart sending brown powder into your tank). You can remove the contents of the Chemi Pure Elite from its bag and put into right into your reactor! You'll keep your phosphates in check and remove other unwanted chemicals and impurities while your at it. Water will be crystal clear.

****** UPDATE TO THIS POST ********

After some experimentation, i found that it is best to keep the Chemi Pure Elite in its bag when you put it in the reactor. This is because the resins can make their way up and into your tank or sump. If your reactor can't handle the whole bag, take some out and save it for the next time. Follow instructions on the Chemi Pure container for rinsing the media and, once you have it in the reactor, run the first gallon of water out into a bucket. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, if you leave it in too long, the Chemi Pure will absorb lots of things that can get rancid. My first bag was ready for change after just 60 days. I'm not sure why, but maybe the effectiveness of the media is amplified in the reactor(??)

This does exactly what it claims to, at least in my experience. It comes with a little filter bag in case you don't have a Phosban reactor to put it in. It lasts a long time too. The only reason I didn't rate it all 5 stars is that I find it kind of a pain to put it in my filter. It doesn't fit in there very well. I'm sure that if I had a Phosban reactor I would overcome that problem and rate it all 5 stars.

I am very pleased with the JBJ 6 gal Nano Cube. I've been running the 12 gal JBJ Nano Cube for 2+ years now and that tank hasn't given me any problems. I have had this tank set up for 14 months as a reef tank with LPS and fish. Just made a few small modifications for a reef set up. I took out the sponge and filter media in the back and added to the chambers some live rock, carbon and filter media. I also switched out the bulb to an 18 watt helios brand 50/50 which is brighter than the stock bulb. Only negative is I wish is that they offered LED lights for this model. The pump provides the perfect amount of current and is very quiet as well. The built in fans for the lights are also very quiet. The tank itself is good quality, overall very good product IMHO

I have been feeding my fish with this and a mixture of live food. Fish love the food, but I would say it's more a Placebo effect as I don't really see any difference.

This is just like the kind you can get at the store, only a lot cheaper, so it's got a one-up economically speaking.

This product always worked as as a dechlorinator. I never had an issue with my tap water once conditioned with this product. I have since switched to the big bottles of Prime though since I saw no value in the "stress coat" part of it. I did not see a reduction of "slime" or anything like that. Prime is a better value when bought in the bigger bottles.

YML Aquarium Net Breeder, Medium

I love the the size and every thing seems to fit well enough. Although there were no instruction and nothing to go by. So I had to go on the internet to see what it should look like also one of the suction cups were broken. I mght by another one if it holds up.

Update: my original 4 stars is now 2 because it does not hold any fry which it was bought for and the suction cups do not work in the end I had to throw it away.

This guppy breeding net was horrible. It was way to big for my tank, it was a flimsy little piece of junk, and it sucked. It didn't even come with insructions of how to put it together! The frame was flimsy, and broke very easily. The pegs that hold it together were wierd shaped and didn't fit in the holes very well. The actual net was pretty much just a hairnet. The only thing it actually did was keep the bigger fish away from the guppy. I would NOT reccomend this product.

At first glance, the product looks pretty neat. Some may say that its size is too small, but 10.3 inches is 10.3 inches. So no cribs on that. However, the net is of extremely poor quality and had started ripping off the bottom seams when I received it. In case you want to use this breeder net, I recommend that you glue the bottom seams (with silicon sealant)to the plastic base after you slip the net on. The other problem is with the suction cups. They fit loosely into the slots provided. It is better to apply some silicon glue to the suction cup slots once you have placed the suction cups. So in case you still decide to purchase this product, make sure that you do have some silicon glue on hand.

This is a descent size breeder net. I Have African Cichlids up to 5" long and these nets work well.

There are a few little things that could be better, but I was able to rig it up easily enough.

The suction cups that hold it up are facing up, so the net needs to be hung from the tank lid.

Not very practical, so I had to hot glue different cups that would hold the net to the side of the tank instead.

Now they work perfect, they hold the Momma fish until the she spits her fry, then it lets the fry grow in safety.

I've tried others and they were either to small or nothing would keep them near the surface of the tank. So for

the money and a minor adjustment this will do the job.

This net is a lot bigger than I thought it was, however it fits nicely inside my 20 gallon tank and I can see the rest of the tank plus the babies within the netting. The only downfall I have with this set up is that it collects dirt and debris from the tank and gets stuck in the netting and is nearly impossible to get out and clean it back to the orgional state, and the suction cups have a tendency to get worn and not hold anymore after a while. It does work for its purpose however, as I have managed to successfully raise 17 different batches of Guppy babies in it thus far.

Hagen Marina Naturals Foreground Silk Plant, Small, Red

This is a foreground plant. It is a really pretty red color that looks great in the water. I bought two for my aquarium. I like the shapes of the unique leaves; they look real. The colors are vibrant but not so bright as to look fake. I would love to someday have real plants, but until then this is the best choice.

I have a 25 gal freshwater tank which I decorated with 12 silk plantssmall, med and large sizes. I arranged the plants around 2 black lava rocks and added a blue background. The colors of the plants look nice with the black rocks and the blue background. The plants fan out from either side of the rocks and sway in the water.

The colors of the plants make the colors of the fish stand out more. Plus the fish seem to feel more secure because they can hide among the plants like they would in the wild. They search the leaves and under the plants for missed food. There are lots of little areas among the plants for the fish to explore and hide. As a pet owner, My little guys seem relaxed and like having these silk plants in their aquarium.

I am happy with these plants. I like the way they add color and texture to my aquarium and my fish like having a more comfortable home.

I like all the Hagen silk plants we've gotten so far. They have nice coloring and they're very soft for your little fish. And so far they stand up well in the water.

This plant added so much life to my tank. its soft for my betta.

Some of the plant released some of the silk but only a little, a week after using. One thing I dont like about it is that all the leaves are really clumped together and wont separate. I dont like how they are arranged.

This is currently in use in our fry net for hiding space. I like that it is silk so there are no sharp edges or corners for the fry to hurt themselves on. It does sink to the bottom without any gravel/sand/rocks so that is a plus. It has a very natural movement to it, but a very unnatural look. I would not suggest you purchase this if you want a "natural" tank.

Got this as a gift, and while we were turned the dog chewed through the face part in under a minute, removed the sound box, broke it open and got to the batteries. We had no idea it had such potentially dangerous small batteries inside. Found only 2 of the 3 that were there and we fear that the dog swallowed one. We will spend the night hoping and praying that the dog passes it safely if she got to it, and that if it rolled somewhere in the living room we find it before our baby does. Horrible evening, full of calls to doctors and poison control. Back to simple squeaky toys.

Our puppy loves this toy and the others in the same line. She has chewed on it for more than 2 weeks without having it tear at the seams or the cloth. She loves that it squeaks and moos, and it's just long and flexible enough to flop properly (for her) when she shakes it in her mouth.

I only gave it three stars because the cow speaker died after just a day of use, while the duck and pig ones have continued for a long time. I think our puppy was harder on the cow one because of the tufts of hair at the top.

API Algaefix Algae Control

After using this product, right away I noticed a reaction with my Goldfish. I have (had) two and the one was affected more then the other. Did a water change and they seemed better. A few weeks later I used it again and then I lost the one fish. For the last few days, even after 2 partial water changes my lone goldfish is VERY stressed and going crazy. Today I'm doing another 2/3 water change and hoping for the best...

Google "Algaefix and goldfish" and read some of the reviews you find there. Some folks think this product should be banned, and I agree wholeheartedly!

The first time I used it, I used it according to directions. I counted out 14 drops for my 10 gallon tank. It cleared within a couple of hours, and then the next day, the algae bloom was back, so I waited three days, like the directions said, and put in another 14 drops, and the next morning, my fish were all lying on the bottom of the tank. When they didn't respond to even food by noon, I got them out of the tank and put them into our quarantine tank until my husband could come home and completely empty and clean everything in the 10-gallon tank. I would not use this again. I hope my fish will be okay. After several hours, they seem to be coming around. If they die, I will write back with an update not to use this product.

I never use chemicals in my tanks but this time I decided to try because I developed an algae problem in one of my tanks that I could not get under control after adding t5ho lighting (Even after reducing light duration). Since I am averse to unnecessary chemicals entering my tanks I only gave a half dose after a water change yesterday. When I awoke this morning I had a lovely tank of dead fish. There is nothing else that would have contributed to the entire tank being wiped out but this hideous product ( My ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels are fine). I wrote API about it and am awaiting a response. STAY AWAY from this and use any other method of destroying algae that does not consist of using this product (Or any other chemical product for that matter). API/MARS should be ashamed to have this on the market.

Jardin Aquarium Fish Tank Biochemical Sponge Filter, 4-1/2-Inch

These sponge filters are functional, but they are not as good as other sponge filters I have used in the past. They leave more residue than previous filters I have used, I find I have to turn up the pumps with these and to clean them about twice as frequently as others I have used. However, that being said, they do work: my water is tolerably clean, I have no algae and my animals are healthy.

Bottom Line:

For top efficiency in a sponge filter (if this is, of course, the type of filer you want; other filter options are always on the table) I would probably choose a different brand.

For the price, it is hard to complain. It is solidly built. It has enough weight to stay in place. yes it is large, but I like that about it. I bought a couple of these. I have used them in 10-55 gal tanks. In the smaller tank they are used with my fry so they have a place to hid and so they don't get sucked into the filter. I would have given 5 stars if the was a way to add an airstone to better aerate the bubbles. If you have a small tank and no top you may get some water mist splashing out. If you have a lid no problems. I'll buy again. Don't clean under tap water though. Nothing that will harm the filter, but the chlorinated water will kill the helpful bacteria that form in the sponge media. Clean the filter out in a bucket of tank water when you do a water change.

I had one of these running in my sump for a couple months. When it was time to set up a nursery tank for the fry, I just moved the sponge to the new tank, and the tank was instantly cycled. They're also great with battery operated air pumps during power outages.

The price was right and still working great, it is easy to clean and I would buy again. The only issue is not sure how you would put an airstone on this product to make smaller bubbles for less agitation, but I can work with it.

I'm using one of these in a 55 gallon tank as a prefilter on a canister filter. Like another review has said, it does not seem to be quite as well-built as the Filter-Max pre-filters, but it's good enough.

There is a large round weight on the bottom that helps to keep it in place in the tank.

Pay attention to the size: This is big enough to completely fill one corner of a 20 gallon tank. If your fish are already a little cramped, get a smaller filter.

Was having a lot of problems with algae in our pond. 3-in-1 filter advertised with the ultra light to eliminate the algae. It took 1 week and it was gone. Very easy to clean. Would recommend this filter if you have a small pond.

After reading various reviews and checking out prices on several websites I found that Amazon had the best price for this product. I am extremely pleased with this filter and it has cleared my green water in a matter of days. My fish are happy with the various fountain sprays as well and enjoy the enaction with the water. This filter has done everything it said it would do and the customer service people were very helpful in answering several questions I had prior to and after installing the unit.

I can once again enjoy watching my fish in a clear water pond while they enterain themselves and us.

I would encourage anyone who is having algae and green water issues to buy this product so that you too can enjoy your pond better.

Zilla 11669 Rock Den

I bought this at a local Petco. The tag said it was good for reptiles in any environment terrestrial or aquatic.

a month ago i bought one of these yesterday while cleaning the tank i noticed that this thing was starting to disintegrate i rubbed it slightly and a cloud of dust came off. I cleaned the tank and a mound of a powdery substance was right inside the rock den.

It is probably ok as a desert rock den but as an aquatic den it's like the wicked witch of the west it disintegrates in water.

The paint is chipping off all over the place, and it killed my pleco! The pleco must have ate too much of the paint. I have owned the product for 3 months, and the paint is chipping off everywhere. For your fish's sake, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

I didn't really like the design of this of this hide. It sloped down too much in the back on the inside not giving the snake any room. It would be nice for maybe a bearded dragon if your cage is big enough to hold it.

upset with the color doesnt look natural at all, the domfort of the den itself is so so its super heavy and has sharp parts too it, i was super hesitant placing it in the sand with my bearded since he likes to dig under things. i placed it on the absolute floor of the tank to prevent that from happening.. (squishing)

Fits perfectly in my tank, love how soft it is, and fluid it moves! Really nice! I don't have to worry about my fancy long tailed gold fish fins getting ripped up, and when I put my moon lights on it has a tinge of glow to it. Love it!

Update: Within a few months the colors began to fade and silcone develoved a white coated residue, I washed and soaked it but to no avail, it doesn't come off. Not long after that, the silicone part come off completely. Not impressed with it so much now, but when I first got it, I totally loved it. Keep in mind it just doesn't last long!

It is super soft and moves great in the light current my little filter makes. Glows under the blue LED light setting I have as well. The best part though is my Betta LOVES this thing. He swims along the tentacles and rests on top of it and even tries to snuggle inside it! So glad I found something else I could add to my Betta tank for him to interact with and enjoy! A "MUST BUY" for Betta lovers!

This has got to be one of the best things I have ever gotten for my Bettas. I currently own two bettas and got this orange Anemone as well as the blue one for my other fish. My bettas love it! They both will play in them and swim through them repeatedly. One of my bettas actually sleeps in his every night. The silicone is sturdy and doesn't come off when in the water. I have had mine for 2 months now and they are still lasting. Well worth the price tag, highly recommend it.
