Aquarius Aq360-6g Gloview 6-Gallon Aquarium Kit

I was so blinded by the excellent price ($38 and free shipping at the time) that I didn't really think things through. I bought this for my Betta, but now wish I had not. The tank is nice enough, but not really appropriate for the pet I have (that's my fault, I wasn't thinking)

Since the tank is skinny and very deep, you'll want very tall plants if you hope to near the top (the XL 18 inches will come close). Bettas like to sleep near the top, using a plant as a hammock, so I suction cupped one to the top not exactly the look I was going for.

For most fish, (esp. Bettas) a heater is a must add $15-20 to the price.

It comes with a tiny filter not great for a Betta because they don't care for moving water. Since its long and skinny, there is poor surface area on top. I had to turn the filter off so that his food doesn't blow around when i feed him. I finally just stopped using the filter, since Bettas need to be near the top of the tank to get some breaths of air.

And the 360 viewing experience? The curve of it obscures what i can view. I often can't find him if he stays along the sides.

Since the 6 gallon was only a few dollars more than the 3 gallon version, I figured I'd be crazy not to get it -it looks a bit lumbering. If i want to vacuum the gravel, I'll need to buy one of those giant ones like I used to have for my 75 gallon tank, since this tank is easily 24 inches high.

I'm going to do some research and see what else I can put in this tank and move my betta back to a gallon tank.

The night light feature is awesome you can choose blue, white or my fav, blue/white combo. if this is in a kids room for a night light, then neato, although I doubt the constant stimulation would be happy for your pet.

I hope some of these points can help you decide if this product fits your individual needs.

I wanted to give some feedback so those of you who are considering buying this product have a better idea what you are buying and what to expect.

Considering the size and whats included this aquarium worth the money. The highlight of this item is the lighting system. With 3 Different setting, the LED lights work very well and looks even better if you put this in a darker corner of your place.

Things to consider:

1-You will need a heater, so be ready to order one if you're buying this item. I went with Eheim Jager Heater 50W. It's working very well so far. Keeping it around 75F.

2The included filter is noisy and weak, I upgraded to Tetra Whisperer Bioscrubber 10i,3-10 gallon model.

3Your tank may arrive with some light scratches. Nothing to worry too much about though. Get a wet and soft picese of cloth and try to buff it out. Once the tank is full you will not notice it much. Just leave the scratched part to face the wall.

4-When feeding the fish, initially let the Whisperer shoot the food to the bottom and then turn off the filter temporarily while your babies hunt for the food. Then turn the filter back on, otherwise most of the chow will end up in the filter and clog it up.

5-I have noticed that cylinder tanks do not offer the best viewing experience for the fish, but if you want a tank around this size this is a good choice and over all I am pleased with the tank.

I started with couple of tigerbarbs and couple of sunburst wag. The sunwags are amazingly fast and crate nice chase scenes.

I read all of the reviews and purchased this tank based on my need for a taller tank with a small footprint. I like the look of it and it does fit my space well but I agree with the previous reviewers about it being difficult to see or even find my betta with the curved design of the tank. As well, I feel the light is inadequate. If you have glow fish then the blue light or blue/white combination is fine. I prefer the white only look and it is very dim compared to our other tank. This is the most disappointing since there is no way to replace it since the light is made specifically for the lid. overall it is a nice looking tank and we are keeping it, I wish the light were brighter though.

When I first saw this kit,I was like "Cute." I've read about the included filter and a bunch of other "better" filters.I've read about the fact that it's acrylic instead of glass.(huh?)

To all the naysayers,I say...I like it.No,it's not a 55 gallon tank outfit with a canister filter but if that's what you want go for it.

Yes,I'm sure there are better acrylic/plastic tanks out there,but my fish a/k/a "The Rat Pack" like it.

When you add your own gravel,plants,aquarium decor (and fish!),it looks and works pretty good.

Overall,I am VERY satisfied.

P.S. : The blue light setting at the top brings it all home.

Just set up the Glofish Tank a few days ago, we have two Glofish so far. I really like the 3 different lighting options to tell you the truth the Glofish look great under all 3 different options. The filter is pretty nice, but it is awkwardly attached to the tank maybe we set it up wrong or something, but as for filtering the water it is doing a great job of that so far. The hood is very nice I like that there is a feeding hole, so it is very easy to feed the fish, and the hood keeps in all the condensation from the tank so that is a plus. As for the tank it's self it is pretty nice, I don't see anything wrong with it, and it is very light which is always a plus. But, one thing to remember is this doesn't come with a heater, which I would highly recommend getting in order for Glofish to survive, and they are about $20 give or take a little.

The package contained no bubble wrap and had one small (very small) piece of newspaper in the box which served no purpose given the larger size of the container. The replacement was a 10,000 daylight (about as different from the product I ordered as possible) but because I was already frustrated I decided to keep it because it was a good deal. I have been feeding my fish with this and a mixture of live food. Fish love the food, but I would say it's more a Placebo effect as I don't really see any difference.

This product is awesome I use it to supplement raw seafood that I feed my large freshwater catfish. It definitely smells like a big bottle of multivitamins. My Fish still love to eat their food when it has been soaked in a solution of Zoe and water.

Perfect-A-Strip Incandescent Light, Black, 12 1/2"

No surprises here, good for a 2 1/2g or a 5 1/2 gallon with a glass top. It has one socket, which I use a Compact Fluorescent (CF) bulb in to maximize efficiency and still provide good lighting. I am actually using this to supplement a Perfecto 20" Fluorescent strip, which by itself, barely provides enough light for a 10Gal with live plants.

Pros Works as it should

Cons Has an old-style small black turn switch, as opposed to a push button (like the other Perfecto lights), which can be annoying to use at times.

P.S. The description doesn't state, but this is a single bulb fixture

This tank light fits my 2.5 baby fry tank extremely well! I love it! I use the Aqueon brand "Colormax" color enhancing mini compact florescent (for saving power and better lighting) bulb ( 6"L; 10 watt lamp) and it works beautifully! The colors are extremely vibrant in the tank and I don't mind that it has a turn style black knob on the side. This also comes with a little strip "stand" thing (not sure what to call it" that's a few inches long (it that), to hold the light in place. Make sure you figure out where you want it before gluing it, and I guess I was too impatient for mine to let the adhesive (comes already on the "stand") completly set, so mine ended up sliding, but this won't happen if you let it set like the instructions say. haha! oops? ;)

I had to return this item 2 times b/c the switch was broken each time. I got a refund since I wasn't going to be disappointed a third time. The item was supposed to be an Easter gift for my 18 month old son. Never again. We went to pet smart instead, which is what we should have done in the first place. This was a cool aquarium but a poor product...

There is no way to turn the light off, there is a socket for a plug but no adapter and the PLASTIC bowl has scratches all the way around it. I would give five bucks for this at a yard sale but at this point I want my money back and you can send this POS back to China. If you order one and it arrives with the word refund written under the top flap of the box you have been sent the one that I am sending back and I suggest you just send it back rather than trying to figure out how to repackage it. If it had a switch for the light I could overlook the scratched cheap plastic bowl but as it is, no such luck.

I feel like the description was false advertisement. When the "cave kit" arrived the pieces were so small that I couldn't make any type of cave that any fish could use.

I like the rocks, but as I was opening and unwrapping the rocks 4 of the rocks was busted up into pieces that really wasn't usable for anything and a couple was broke in half. They are very, very small rocks. I've had them for several months now and they don't do anything except collect green algae and not starting to look anything like the one in the picture, better yet they don't look anything like the ones pictured to begin with. Very midleading!! Yes, I have a pleco, clean, and test my tank on a regular basis, so I couldn't tell you why they are growing algae. That was more than $20 wasted!! Don't waste your time and money.

I purchased these rocks and was pleased to receive them early. The box they came in though was very small which concerned me a little, I opened it up and there were 4 packs of small slate rocks with one of them broken into 2 pieces and several small pieces. They do not look like the pieces in the picture, they're more square than anything and maybe 1 1/2 inches long or smaller. In the description it says size varies but damn I didn't think they were gonna be that small. Regardless I'll still use them for my tank, I'll just add more rocks that I have in my cabinet with these ones.

I have a power filter and was sick of buying cartridges so I took these and cut out the right size rectangle and bought a fine mesh media bag to put around it, they catch a lot of matter and just need rinsed every couple days. I also use a dual sponge bubble filter for my bio filtration and wow, it also keeps the water super clear! Try my idea out, works wonders for water quality and your money in the long run.

these are nice pads that are form fitted for the trays in the C530.

They do a good job but I would recommend less expensive filter media alternatives if you can find them.

Product is in my fry tank and works great to help the fry hide or stay out of the light if they want. I use sand as substrate and I do not embed the product in the sand. I just place enough small stones on it to keep it from floating, that way the fry can get in and out of it easier.

Nutrafin Cycle Biological Filter Supplement

This product works amazingly well for being a 'quick fix' for cycling, but make sure you SHAKE the bottle... shake it, shake it, shake it.

Day 1 you'll (shake the dickens out of it) dump in a ton of the stuff as directed, by day 2 I've seen the ammonia spike that signifies the beginning of cycling. Day 3 it says you're done... and you have cycled the aquarium... ammonia and nitrite drop to zero and nitrate is at a safe level (under 5 ppm) by day 4 in my experience, but when you add fish, don't be surprised if you see a 'mini-cycle' where the ammonia and nitrite spike a bit. The tank and fish are fine but consult a forum or fish store if you're worried. One review on here stated they tried replacing all of their water to fix an algae problem?... not what this product is for. This runs through the 1-4 week process of initially cycling the tank within 3 days, doesn't make it impossible to make mistakes.

I will say I have some reservations about the "immediate stocking" part... I would suggest setting the aquarium up, pop an aquatic plant in there and maybe a pinch of fish flake (for some organic matter to break down) and use Cycle for the 3 days, THEN introduce fish SLOWLY, just a couple at a time if they're small, for bigger fish like cichlids, only one at a time... unless you have a very well established tank, dunking a bunch of fish will spike ammonia to really dangerous levels and might kill all of your fish. This being said, I have thrown 3, 2" fish into a 10 gallon tank of treated water, added Cycle, and it did work... it just isn't exactly humane, as the cycling can be hard on the fish's gills, slime coat, etc. This was about 2 months ago and all of those fish are still fine.

API Stress Zyme8 OZ. is another version of this product, but does it over the course of 2 weeks. I've used it as well and it seems to do the job well also, so if 3 days sounds too good to be true (though somehow it is true), you may want to give it a try (I've used Cycle and Stress Zyme together in factdidn't change anything, Cycle did a 3 day cycle and Stress Zyme caused it to cycle again so I wouldn't recommend mixing them.

Essentially, despite what so many fish fans say, this stuff does work... but only if you shake the heck out of the bottle (it stirs up the bacteria). I have used it, currently use it, and will continue to use it both for setting up new tanks and keeping the beneficial bacteria level up in my established tanks (I have 4, 3 fresh, 1 salt). Follow the directions and remember to SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE that bottle!

I had tried a competing product, by Tetra, and did not have good results. Ammonia stayed high, algae bloomed, fish died. Went to my local fish store and the kind lady suggested this. So glad she did. Within days I had ammonia dropping, nitrite rising, then dropping and nitrate rising. My tank was cycled in three days. I was able to add more fish a couple days later and didn't have a spike of ammonia.

I remember the old days of having to wait a month, or more, for a new tank to cycle. This is so much better, and more humane for the fish, too. I recommend this Nutrafin Cycle!

I setup a brand new 75g, let it run for 2-3 days before I went an bought 2 jaguars(3"). Before I left out to go get the jags I shook the Nutrafin cycle bottle for 2mins (arm was super tired) and added the first treatment. I followed the directions on the back to a T and I never had a problem. It's been about a month now and everything is still going well, I just add Nutrafin cycle once a week and with water changes. I think I like this stuff better than stress zyme (if they even serve the same purpose). I got Nutrafin cycle from amazon.com almost %50 cheaper than what my LFS was selling it for.

This should be one of the first products you buy when setting up an aquarium. This has the good bacteria you need to help speed along your cycle process. You could do it the long way but try this you won't regret it.

I'm very new to keeping aquatic pets, but after over a month after starting, my fish, shrimp, snail and plants are healthy and the tank is stable

I got a 5 gallon acrylic tank kit with some substrate and a rock and started dosing with Cycle from day 1. After a day or two, I bought some marimo moss and a couple of red shrimp from a local shop and added them into my new tank. Within a week, after doing partial water changes every other day, it seemed like my tank finished cycling with trace amounts of ammonia, no detectable nitrites and a build up of nitrates.

Now it seems that without any cycling product, it typically takes about a month to fully cycle a new aquarium. It took me a week with Cycle and no algae bloom!

I do add a little bit of Cycle in after doing water changes, but only because I have so much left (I think I bought the 16 oz bottle) and its shelf life is relatively short due to live bacteria inside. I don't think it's necessary, but I did recently buy a new filter and it certainly didn't hurt.

Definitely worth checking out.

Super Orthopedic Lounge Pet Bed

I used to balk at any dog bed that cost this much money, but I have purchased MANY dog beds and my dog's favorite dog bed was a 6" tall memory foam bed. Unfortunately that is a very large bed and the dimensions of it are too large to fit in my bedroom. I bought this bed because it is the tallest memory foam bed that would fit in the space I have in my bedroom. I need space to walk too afterall. My dog loves this bed too, I'm sure that it is more comfortable for him than the thinner (3") memory foam beds or the ones that are stuffed with loose fill. My only gripe about it is the cover they use for it. According to the company it is completely waterproof, but that also makes it almost as noisy as a plastic tarp. You WILL hear it when your dog moves around on this bed. That being said, I would still highly recommend it.

The snoozer orthopedic senior dog bed appears to be well made with quality materials. My dogs seem to really like it.

Update: 6-4-13 I would give this bed 6 stars if possible! When I unzipped the cover to wash it I found that the sherpa is lined with the same fabric that the rest of the bed is covered with, and the zipper is a heavy duty zipper. :)

It barely fits my medium dog (staffordshire bull terrier) he fits right to the ends and cannot lay down sideways on it. the only parts that fit sidways is head to middle belly. but he likes it and it is very sturdy and should last a long time. the cover does zip off and can be washed, but only unzips half way it will be a bit of a bear to get it off and back on after washing. The top is a thick plush foux sheeps wool. the fabrick is a very thick and coarse cotton or such type fabric. the zipper is Very heavy duty. little scratchy but doesn't seem to bother the dog.

Quick Disconnect Double Valve for Magnum 350 Canister Filter

I got this part to use with my Vortex diatom filter to facilitate recharging it. Adding this quick-connect shut-off valve makes that chore a bit easier, but no matter how you try to clean out used diatom residue and add fresh material, its no picnic. Quality of the valves is good and the only thing that is downside is that separating the quick-connect valves can be a little difficult. Suggest lubricating them with vaseline to make this easier.

This valve assembly is a great concept, but will leak over time (6-8 months) if care and attention is not given to the o-rings. I've found that libricating/conditioning the rings with silicone lubricant will extend their life to over a year. Overall, a good product.

Marineland Visi-Therm Aquarium Heater

I was very skeptical getting this heater at first. Because first off, there were no reviews regarding this ANYWHERE. So I kinda took a shot in the dark buying this one after searching hours for a heater for my 2 gallon aquarium.

It may be more expensive than other heaters for small aquariums but so far.... I think it's worth it.

It's getting the job done. I love how it doesn't look tacky in my aquarium (I was worried it would look really bulky) but it blended in just fine. It has it's own holder (so you don't have to worry about it dangling in the aquarium like a rabid lizard) And my Betta fish loves it :) He's currently "resting" underneath it.

And I love how you can adjust the water temperature by actually seeing NUMBERS. Other heaters let you control the water temperature blindly and making you unplug it when the water gets too hot (which in my opinion, is fish murder). This heater has an automatic switch so it turns of by itself when it gets to the desired water temperature.

Safe to say, SO FAR, this is the best heater I've had. =)

After a year, I decided that my previous heaters the Hydor mini heaters were not adequate for my bettas due to the fact that they never got their water to the proper temperatures. They only heated their tanks just a few degrees higher than what the temperature in my apartment. After much research, I ended up buying four of the Visi-Therm Deluxe Submersible Heaters 25W for my four boys so I could be able to regulate the temperature settings. After a brief trial and error with the temperature settings, I finally got my boys' tanks at a temperature of warm and toasty or what it should be for betta splendens (i.e somewhere between 78 to 82 degrees). I had a bit of a struggle getting the suction cups to attached to the heater but evenutally I did. I like that the light will go on notifying me when the heater is on, and turns off when the temperature of the water is near being too warm. Because Ra's temperature was only at 69-70 degrees with his Hydor Mini heater, my little boy was cold. When I put in the Visi-Therm and brought back the temperature to over 75 degrees, Ra started making bubble nests again. I definitely will never go back to using a heater where I can not control the temperature. After a couple of months of owning the Visi-Therm Deluxe 25 heater, they are still working properly for me. I have read horror stories about this particular heater but from my personal experience, they have not malfunctioned.

I had a marineland Visi therm heater in my marine aquarium and for no reason the glass on it cracked. The heater was in a water level controlled sump where it was never in contact with moving objects of fish so user error is NOT an issue here.

A large section of glass simply "fell" off and exposed all the live coils to the water. The heater smoked and stunk the entire room out.

Everything in my tank was electrocuted to death instantly and I am now out hundreds of dollars in livestock.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy this product.

TO ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS HEATER:

I have had this heater for about 5 months now. It worked great for that period of time but today I came home after being out of town overnight and the temperature in my tank was a whopping 91º!!!!! As this is a saltwater aquarium, everything survived....LUCKILY!!! You may have different luck with this heater than I did but be warned that the thermostat may just decide to stop working and cook your fish while you sleep!

I originally had a 50W Marineland Stealth Pro, which has worked perfectly in 6G Fluval Edge with a nice design small and dark to blend in with the plants in the back, and a clear dial and pilot light at the top and not in the tank, where it distracts. That one was recalled due to explosion and fire hazard, and unfortunately has not been reissued.

As a replacement, Marineland sent a Visi-Therm of equal power. It has a more obtrusive design making it harder to hide, and a bright pilot light very obvious at night. But it initially worked ok.

However, after a couple of months it failed open, and the tank started cooling. I caught it right away, and did not lose anything. And this is better than exploding and blowing the tank out.

Disappointing nevertheless...

My brother had the opposite experience with this heater losing his fish due to a thermal run away.

I think, I am done with Marineland.

I didn't realize they made vacuums this small, and it works. It doesn't siphon too quickly, so you can swish the gravel around to suck up the stuff settled at the bottom.

It self starts as long as the tank is full (mine's a 3 gallon). If you stop after about a gallon it doesn't tend to start back up.I use it once a monce when I'm going to swap out some of the water anyway.

If you have a 10 gal or smaller tank you need this. No reason to spend any more money. It's also great for draining the tank for a water change.

Great vacuum for small tanks, I have a 2.5 gallon and it works perfectly. Doesn't have a self starting pump, but is easy to start up anyway.

If you follow the instructions, this thing will work very quickly. I remember wrangling with gravel vacs as a kid, but this starts fairly easily every time. Just make sure the length of the vacuum tube is right for your tank mine is about the same length, so it's a little more difficult to start that it would be if there was ample room for the tube inside the tank.

Got this for a small tank (1.5 gallons). It worked very well and helped get the junk out of the gravel. It was easy to get the water flowing, just follow the directions.
