I use it in my aquariums, and a fountain in my green house. Works well in both!

I have a problem with the water quality here; it's well water that has problems with high phosphate levels. I attribute that to living in a (largely former) agricultural area...phosphate-based fertilizers. The amount of algae varies directly with the phosphate concentration with little-to-no changes in any other ion concentration.

Anyway, this is the only non-copper containing stuff that works well and consistently. With the other stuff that I bought, I might as well have had the fish swimming in pure algaecide.

In my experience, this manufacturer sells a pretty good product line and I don't know why I didn't start with them.

I do have a phosphate sponge in one of the filters and I have live plants, snails and a fair number of monster Discus. Everybody is doing fine after months of treatment.

Yes, months. It takes a lot to keep the algae at bay and I try to watch how much I feed the crew.

This product, applied according to instructions (25 drops/ten gallons or 40 liters of water, killed all of my blue eye forktail rainbow fish, Pseudomugil furcatus, within 18 hours, first the females and then the males. None of my other fish have been affected. However, I have not lost any plants to the product. The product is fairly effective against algae, but after the initial kill, it is necessary to continue treating the water weekly.

This product simply does not work. I used it for three weeks following the instructions and everything remained the same. I have a 20 gallon tropical aquarium and I instead replaced the substrate after giving up with multiple products. I'm not sure if this works with other forms of algae (mine was green)but i'd be hesitant.

We accidentally did too much of a water change and created an in-balance in our tank due to trying to plan ahead for a vacation. It took awhile to eliminate the green algae and cloudy water bloom but this worked so well we started to use it as a regular with our other tanks. Finnex PX-360 Compact Canister Aquarium Filter

Overall a great filter. It does a great job for what I need it to do. I wanted to do a planted nano tank, and this is a great filter for it.

Only 2 draw backs for this.

#1 I needed some straight connectors, but the connectors (rubber ones) are 90 degrees. So my intlet and outlet set lower in the water than I would like because I put it on a 5.5 nano. But that is the only complaint.

*#2 the smaller clips on mine like to pop off. But they snap back on easy, but aggravating, not a big deal in the grand scheme.

The capacity is great and the water flow is perfect I think for up to 15 maybe 20 gallons. I like it because i dont have a HOB filter sitting above the tank. Even if I hang this filter (it comes with hangers) It sets below the tank. The back of this tank is painted black and the suction cups and fittings are hardly noticed.

Comes with ceramic media and a sponge and a filter pad. I think when the filter needs changing i will put floss and carbon in there because it would be cheaper than replacements. 3 tray compartment and easy to fit.

I will buy one or two of these for my 20 gallon when that filter dies.

Handy tips: if you piece it together make sure your pump is lined up with the hole on the media holder. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why it wasnt pumping.

when changing filters, be sure to rinse out the hoses. I change my filter once a month. After changing it, if I don't rinse the tubes debris is shot into the tank.

***Update***

After 8 months or so using the filter, I still love it, and its a breeze during tank maint.

*After working with the pump I know how to take it apart without popping the little clips off.

I have a 12 gallon salt water tank that came with a bio-wheel, carbon, and filter. My Nitrates were through the roof (in the red, 40 range) I come to find out bio-wheel are not need anymore if you have live rock & live sand which I have. bio wheels in the early stage can cause high nitrates, so I had to toss the bio-wheel filter out.

I search for Days for a good canister filter I was willing to pay big $$$ for one if it help with Nitrates, but most good canister filter are for big 50 gallon tanks. I had no choice but to get the PX-360 because it was the Only one I found for small tank like mine. When I saw its cheap price I thought for sure it wasn't going to work at all. But being able to pick what I can put inside the filter has helped a lot! I have ammonia pads, de-nitrate rock, & chemi pure in the filter and my Nitrates have dropped into the 20 range. I use to have to do water changes every 4 days to keep the nitrates from spiking. Now with the px-360 filter I only do water changes every 3 weeks, I might go every 4 weeks if the Nitrates drop more.

It is quiet, very quiet much quieter then my air pump, and super easy to clean. Best part it's so small it fits on the stand right beside the tank, I have a lighthouse in front of the filter so no one see it. Probably its best feature is being able to put any media you want inside & the long rubber hoses so you can put the filter behind, beside or under the tank to hide it. It also comes with hang on the tank feature but I like it sitting on the stand better.

I am using this canister filter on a 40 gallon filled to the top with 2 axolotls (salamanders) in the tank.

The PX-360 filter is rated for a much smaller tank, but I was looking for a canister filter that was not too powerful for the tank, as axolotls do not like a great deal of water flow (these salamanders like to chill out and meditate about the mysteries of life day after day after day....). I have two sponge filters on the aquarium as well, so I only have to open this canister up and clean it out about once every two or three months.

I bought mine in April 2011, and it is still running strong nine months later. I realize that this is a short length of time, but I decided to rate the canister filter anyway because--so far at least--it has done the trick, AND it is cheaper than the Zoo Med 511 filter, which was the other one that I was contemplating for this tank. I also own the Zoo Med 511 and am quite happy with it, but I am just saying that there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with this Finnex filter, which is a little more than half the price of the Zoo Med! Perhaps the Finnex company is keeping the price down to attract hobbyists because so few of us know anything about the company or their filters (or their heaters as they have those too)? I don't know, but I am writing this positive review because I just decided to buy another one of these canisters for a 25 gallon tank with fish, so I thought I should also put my mouth where my money is!!

I have had this Finnex PX-360 for nearly a year now. it works great, and properly maintained and cleaned it is very silent. I use it in conjunction with my 1.9 gallon Finnex planted nano tank in which I have freshwater shrimp with a CO2 injection system. The pressure from this unit was a little too fierce at first for my size tank. So using a drill bit I reamed out the output nozzles on the water spray bar to make them slightly larger in each case and this solved my over pressure problem.

You have to regularly clean this unit like any filter since the intakes and tubing can become clogged and when I notice it becoming a bit sluggish or making a bit of noise, I give it a throughout cleaning. In addition I periodically use a phillips screwdriver to dissassemble the impeller unit and clean it, and also the small 1/8" air return tube along side it which had become clogged on one occasion. Let's face it you have to be a bit DIY about these things, and when I see people complaining that the unit stopped working after x months then I think it is usually the case that it required a thorough cleaning by someone who is not shy about pulling the thing apart and identifying the problem.

I use this in an 8 gallon nano tank for Red Cherry Shrimp only. I did have to modify the bottom container with a better filter media (Chempure Elite) as the media in this is substandard. It also must be anchored down, I'm using a thermometer suction clip. It needs only a minimal air pump. My shrimp tank is heavily planted with only dwarf shrimp and three nerite snails...It is nearly self-sustaining but I wanted a little extra filteration with no chance of losing babies in a larger filteration system. This is a very small filter. This works well but I wouldn't recommend for any heavier bioload or with the media filter material it comes with.

I bought this for a 5 gallon tank and it wouldn't sink to the bottom...I added more rocks to it but then I couldn't get the top to close. I ended up throwing this in the trash. It was not useful at all.

Charming Pet Latex Dog Toy Balloon

The toys in this line are adorable and I bought a bunch of them (here and elsewhere): horse, duck, bull, sheep, alligator, monkey, pig, dog, and lion.

The horse arrived with its squeaker already broken....something was rattling around inside.

Each and every other one has not survived as much as 5 minutes being carried/mouthed....not chewed....on walks. The squeakers stop working and there's a rattle inside.

Today's walk was with the last of these toys (I alternate on our daily walks) and, after being carried by the tail, there was also a good tear in the latex. I fished out the loose squeaker part. It was a tiny cylinder of rubber. If this gets swallowed and caught in some dogs pyloric valve, there's a good chance it'll be causing a problem with bloat....and even watching over a dog with its toys won't always prevent initial chewing/swallowing with some dogs.

For what it's worth, I don't have a huge strong-jawed dog.....my guy is 30 lbs. of Whippet-like mix....he has a narrow little mouth.

I really wish I hadn't wasted my money on any of these since they're not as interesting to my dog once they no longer squeak.

My toy poodle got the squeaker out in a few days (which could have been a choking hazard). After a couple of weeks it has a torn area near the ear. It makes a loud noise that is very easy for the dog to squeak, so it was fun for a few days. But I cannot recommend this toy for any dog who chews.

This toy is a big squeaker, so it is easy for the dog to squeak it. It is also loud and high pitched, which the dog LOVES. The best feature of this toy is that it bounces, so the dog spends all his time tossing it around, letting it bounce, and catching it again. It is very entertaining for him, and very amusing for me to watch.

I also like that this toy is easy to clean. It now has some dings and scratches but has held up very well.

The tail of the duck is not filled with air and my dog likes to gnaw on it once he tires from chasing it around. It hasn't showed any signs of wear either.

EHEIM Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater 50W

This is my first Enheim/Jager heater and so far I'm very happy with it. It holds a steady temp (+/1) and has been reliable thus far. The ability to re-calibrate the heater (while confusing at first if you neglect to read the instructions like I did) is a nice feature and an uncommon one. Another nice feature is the run dry protection, the heater automatically shuts off when it's out of water. I tested this feature as soon as I received the unit because I have a nasty habit of doing water changes and forgetting to unplug my equipment and the feature works as advertised.

For some reason, the product description has the dimensions listed as 1" x 1" x 1". While that would be awesome and I'd pay 4 times the price for the reliable heater that size, the unit is actually 9" long (23cm). I had to look this info up on another site prior to purchasing, because size does matter sometimes.

I would recommend this heater. FYI I'm using it on a ~7 gallon (~26L).

In response to the previous comment, these heaters are top of the line. A 1 degree difference is not significant so you're just splitting hairs buddy. For lack of a better word the heater is perfect, been working flawlessly for the last 4 years, no complaints here.

This heater is great! I have been wanting one for my 2.5 gallon betta tank, but most thermometers for a tank that small are unregulated. I was going to get the 25 watt heater, but it was just as big as this one and only a few dollars less. Therefore, I went with this one because I could also put it in a bigger tank. It keeps the temperature from fluctuating very well, even when put in the tank diagonally. Just keep in mind, in a tank this small the dial will have to be significantly below the desired temp. to get it where you actually want it. But it works well, I would definitely recommend it.

I just finished putting this skimmer together and placed it on my 37 gallon column aquarium. First of all the positives. This skimmer is very quiet for a hob protein skimmer. I have my aquarium right next to my couch, and it doesn't distract from watching television. Very little microbubbles are released back into my aquarium, which should get even better with time. Since my aquarium is newly setup with no organisms yet, there is nothing to skim. However, there is a storm of bubbles in the skimmer column, and I know that this will do its job well when the time comes. And finally the pump doesn't sit inside the tank, saving you space and preventing excess heat entering your aquarium. You also don't have to worry about wandering anemones or small fish getting sucked up by this powerful pump.

Now onto the negatives. If you are unfamiliar with how skimmers work, you might have trouble putting this together. Mainly the included directions are to blame, which are very little help to the user. Be sure that your o-rings are placed properly and the seals are screwed tight. Fill the skimmer with water before putting it in place and turning on, to check for leaks. The surface skimmer sits very low in the aquarium and if you like to fill your tank to the brim, the surface skimmer will not skim from the surface. Half an inch higher and it would be perfect.

Overall I'm very impressed with this skimmer, but there's a worry in the back of my mind that I'll come home to a wet floor.

This is my first skimmer (Efficiently speaking), It is a little bit difficult to adjust properly buy if you simply observe, there is no problem.

I installed it, started the engine and moved sand sediments on my Tank and immediately i saw how the organic matter was expelled by the bubbles.

The major problem was the assembly as it did not include a manual installation or use. ONLY It just comes with a sheet with the explosive party. It was very useful to watch videos on sites like assembly on youtube for this model or the BH2000.

As soon as I bought this and put it together it started leaking from the connections. When I tightened it, the connector broke. Then the impeller packed it in. The seller was defensive and difficult. His response was "well nobody else seems to have these problems", and threatened to start adding on restocking charges if I left a bad review.

The distributor was nice enough, and they sent replacement parts but the unit still leaked. They eventually sent me a new pump, but that leaked too. 6 weeks later I finally cut my losses. It's now a boat anchor and it's on Craigslist AS IS. Went out and bought an AquaC Remora which was up and running in under an hour.

I bought this because it has good reviews. I apparently got a lemon, but in all honesty, there are just way too many pieces. Too many O rings, joints, connectors to break. This thing was cracking when I was assembling it. And I'm supposed to take it apart on a regular basis to clean it? Forget it. I wouldn't trust this not to leak all over my expensive wood flooring.

The only reason I gave it one star, was because for the 3 hours it did manage to work, it was skimming pretty good before it started leaking again.

We just purchased this skimmer from a local pet shop. Within ten minutes of getting it running it was pulling stuff out of my water column. I have had skimmers before and this one rocks. I had a 55 gallon, but had to sell that one. Everybody told us for a 30 gallon just do water changes. My nitrates are always a little high, even with weekly water changes. I am hoping this will improve my water quality. Happy shopping!

I am using the BH-1000 skimmer on my 75 Gallon tank and it works great. I am also impressed at how well the "defoaming divice" works at preventing micro bubbles. It produces skim well and as far as performance and construction it's the best skimmer I have ever owned.

The only complaint I have is the intructions are lacking but thanks to the pluthera of You Tube videos on most Reef Octopus Skimmers this wasnt much of an issue.

I would not personally recommend it for a smaller size tank, as I feel it would be a little too large. That being said, I'm very happy with it. I was looking for a South American theme, so this is perfect. Small fish have swim holes for play. I ran airline tubing into it, and have air bubbles gently rising from the center of the vase.

The ornament is beautiful. However, had strong chemical odor and fell apart in one month. I pulled it out of the aquarium by the handle and it fell off.

Aquatic Creations Static Cling Aquarium Background, 24 by 12-Inch, Tropical

Pros: The backing is marked off in 1 inch grid lines, making trimming to fit easier. As stated in the prod description, the vinyl attaches to the glass of the aquarium with static electricity. The image is well defined. At night the background looks good.

Con: The image is printed (screened?) on a transparent vinyl. During the day or back lit the light shines through and the image is faded. Overall it's not bad, you can still see the image. It's just faded a bit.

Installation Note: I recommend removing all obstructions from the rear of the tank. To get the static vinyl to hold you will need to get a fair portion in contact with the tank. It worked best for me to temporarily tape 1/8" of the backing to a top corner then I worked across to the opposite top corner and then pushed the air pockets out of the bottom. Once I had the entire backing in contact and being held I removed the tape and made adjustments as needed.

This was exactly what I needed and have been looking for. This kit allowed me to restore my air pump to full working status. This also saved me about half the price of purchasing a new one. The only negative is I do not understand why Tetratec had to make is so difficult to determine which kit I needed to make the repairs. I received this as a gift and must say that as large as this is, didn't think my dogs would want to play fetch with this. Wrong. There's something about the thick rubber and the squeak, although after two months the squeak just died today. One of my GSDs continues to bite and chew on this. The seam so far has been holding but the paint is coming off the lips and eyes. The tail "feathers" have been chewed off but this thing still bounces and my dogs still want to play with this thing. It's gotten a lot of use out of it!

So, if you have a GSD or a dog that is a constant chewer, be prepared for a short life span of maybe two months. But as long as the seams are intact the dogs may continue to play with this.

Bought this for my 10 month old lab. It only lasted a few days (not continuous play as it didn't go in his crate with him, and he does have several other toys). Wasn't impressed as I was expecting this would last a lot longer due to it's durability rating and cost. Definitely not worth the money.

Would not recommend, my dog isn't even that strong and found a way to destroy this toy. Lasted maybe 2 weeks, was not a good value.

My dog is a serious chewer, and this one lasted for three months, even leaving it in the crate with him. He gnawed off two of the fins a while ago, but today he went got the tail off, and all the stuffing started to come out. I took the stuffing out, and now he is shredding the outer layer.

I got this toy almost a month ago for my 35lb border collie/pitbull who typically decimates any stuffed toy within days. She loves this thing and plays with it all the time and so far just the fins have been chewed up but the body is still intact. I'm super happy I bought this thing and will be getting her more Mighty dog toys in the future.

My 3 old english sheepdogs have had this toy for over 2 months, and except for it being forever dirty (it is grey and white, after all), it looks like new! These dogs have a reputation for being hard on stuffed toys. They have a particular skill at playing tug of war with them. They've destroyed supposedly tough toys in less time than it will take you to read this review. This "mighty" dog toy is GREAT!
