Elite Optima Pump w/Rheostat

I bought this pump to replace my tetra whisper 40. The tank is in my bedroom so I'm trying to make it as quiet as possible. This pump, as it turns out, is much louder than the tetra. I like that you can control the output but I found out the more output the louder it gets. I was able to make a cover for the tetra to help buffer the sound. I don't think I could do the same for this it's pretty big. Also the power cord is really really short which is a big problem if you want to place this pump more then 2 feet from the power outlet.

This was working fine for two years, then yesterday while I was gone I get an email from my Apex telling me the aquarium temperature was below my threshold. Turns out the heater was 'on', but the heating element no longer gets hot. Had to throw away and get another one. Done with Finnex.

purchased two 300W for a 150g reef tank. Had a pair of Marineland Steath heater in there for two years and it blew apart. One of the 300W HMO works fine, the second one would not heat up. Open the control box and found one of the leg of the SCR not solder on the board. Re-solder and it is working OK now. Seem like no QC took place.

To my horror, I came home last night to a 96-degree reef tank. The heater failed in the on position. I lost 1 fish and all my corals. Just got done scrubbing the dead stuff off my live rock. My suggestion is to think twice about purchasing this one.

Finnex HMO 300 Watt w/ Memorized Digital Controller Aquarium Titanium Heater (80 100 Gallons) My Finnex HMO 300 Watt Titanium Heater was inaccurate and seemed to me to be unreliable. The Finnex registered 77 deg. F, which was > 2 deg. higher than the 3 thermometers in my tank. Those 3 agreed among themselves within 0.2 deg. F. The heater responded poorly, or not at all, to my efforts to raise the temperature in the tank. I did not want to risk using the Finnex Titanium in my tank and discarded it. I have a 75 gal tank with two Eheim filters (with no filter heating elements). I had removed the two other heaters from my tank. I have had tropical fish tanks since the early 1940s.

This heater is Terrible! I don't even want to give it one start but you cant give it negative stars.

I bought 2 of these. 1 for my 46 gallon tank and one for my 72.

In both cases the electronics where you change the temperature malfunctioned.

In one case it was not dangerous. The first case it just stopped showing the temperature. I could not tell if it was working since there is no light on the heater itself the only way I could tell if the heater was working was the press the up or down button and wait and see if my temperature went up or down. I did not want to Cook or Freeze my fish so I tossed that one out.

Yesterday the 2nd one malfunctioned and it could have been bad if I had not been at home.

I was in the kitchen cooking when I head a loud POP then a hiss from the fish tank. As I got closer to the tank I got a faint smell of smoke. Further investigation lead me to the heater and once again the plastic device used to turn the temperature up or down. The numbers burnt out again but this time it was very hot. I unplugged it. When I put it to my nose I could smell burnt electronics.

I originally wanted to buy the JBJ true temp 300W but I cheeped out. I will not make the same mistake twice!

It dyes the water bright green! I've done three water changes now and still have green water (though it is getting lighter) it is worth it to save a fish, but if I had it to do over again I'd isolate the fish in his own tank so I don't have to stress all the other fish with the frequent water changes . . .

I am also going to get some extra carbon for my filter and see if that helps get the green out . . .

I have a black molly who didn't seem like he was going to make it due to a fungal infection and likely bacterial infection that was making swimming very difficult. We lost a guppy a couple of weeks ago mysteriously. In hindsight, it was also probably due to fungus. Well, less than 48 hours after treatment, the molly perked up (though still had fungus on him), and after another day he shed the fungus and is now doing very well. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that I only have a 3 gallon aquarium, so I wish that there were options for smaller doses and a smaller, cheaper amount of product as I will likely never use all of the meds in this box.

But the Fungus Cure worked as promised and saved my daughter's fish. I am very glad I bought it.

I was away from home for 4 days and came back to sick fish last Saturday. I first used remedies I had on hand for bacterial infections and did a 1/3 water change, changed all filter material etc. but they remained weak and showed some fungus spots. One fish was laying on her side on the bottom for those 2 days. These were babies I had raised from over a year ago so it was breaking my heart to see them sick. This worked for my betta! He not only had fungus splotches on his side, but he had pretty aggressive tail/fin rot. It was pretty sad for me since I JUST got him at the store and noticed these problems not too many days after. He was pretty lethargic from the stress of moving to my dorm and then his health problems. He wouldn't eat either. Needless to say I was VERY worried.
