Hydor ETH 200 In-Line External Heater 200w 5/8" hose - Original Eth 201

Hydor ETH 200 In-Line External Heater 200w 5/8' hose - Original Eth 201I have a tall 29 gallon that had a typical submersible "stick" heater in it. The problem inconsistent heat. No matter where you put that stick, the temperature in the tank will vary as you get further away from the stick, and will vary a lot from top to bottom. I had to set it to 82 degrees to get an average of 76, and the furthest corner was usually closer to 72.... that's a HUGE variance which is bad for the fish.

This heats ALL your water every drop passes through this heater (about 6 times an hour if you have adequate flow through your filter).

I put this in my output line, set it to 78, and within 1 hour got a reading of EXACTLY 78, no matter where I put the thermometer in the tank. I will never go back to stick heaters again.

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!

Bought this heater for use w/ a Fluval 305 canister filter on a 45gal corner pentagram community tank. The old glass tube heater's thermostat seemed to stop working (maybe because I let the water level drop a bit low), and I came across this inline model while looking for a replacement.

First off, the heater is much larger than I expected. It was too long to install above the filter yet below the tank in my stand (while keeping the required vertical positioning), so I had to move the tank away from the wall in order to install it in-line on the return hose behind the tank. Since it's also pretty fat (much thicker than the hoses themselves), the tank now sits a few inches from the wall instead of almost right up against it. The Fluval 305 filter also uses the ribbed hoses, which I found out after purchasing the heater are not 5/8ths, but 3/4" themselves. A few posts on the net said connecting the ribbed hoses directly to the heater would result in leaks. I ended up buying a couple of the rubber Fluval hose ends, which just push on to the ends of the cut ribbed hose, and so far, no leaks.

Once installed, the heater seems to work well, but the temp setting on the dial doesn't match the 2 thermometers in the tank. The thermometers both read ~2 degrees higher than the dial. As long as this remains consisant, this isn't a big deal. The ambient temp in the house will be as low as 65, but the heater doesn't seem to have any trouble maintaining the tank at 78.

It is nice to be able to not have a glass tube heater showing in the tank, though. Makes for a cleaner looking setup.

My first fish was a little crazy and used to swim frantically around the tank banging into the walls. Turns out he smashed the glass heater and the rest (along with the fish) is history. Went to the "in-line" heater version after that and this heater works great. Use it in a 30 gallon, acrylic tank.

I bought one of these to use with a Fluval 306 canister filter and 50 gallon tank. Connecting it to the filter was not straight forward since Fluval uses ribbed hoses. I ended up using a clear 5/8" PVC hose from the filter to the intake of the heater and then used the rubber connector and the ribbed hose on the discharge to the tank. So far in nearly 6 months of use this has worked flawlessly with no leaks.

I can't say enough about how well the heater works as far as controlling the tank temperature. I have a digital thermometer and it never fluctuates more than +/.1 degrees no matter what the room temperature is. You do hear a slight click when the the heater turns on or off which means they use a mechanical relay to control the voltage to the heating element. I like this as most heaters use a solid state relay (think transistor) which is usually the reason heaters fail in the "on" state and fry the tank, SSR's almost always fail "on".

If you have a canister filter you can't go wrong with one of these heaters.

I have this installed on the output of a Fluval 206 canister filter. Keeps the turtle water at 80 degrees effortlessly. The outside of the unit does not get very warm, so it is not a problem having it rest against the aquarium background. The tank is a 55 gallon with about 40 gallons of water in it. I took about a foot of the black flexible Fluval tubing and put a rubber end on it with silicone, then covered that with heat shrink tubing. It attaches firmly to the compression fitting. I had a clip that slides over the tank rim, so attached the heater to that with a cable tie. It is very lightweight. Love it!

Perfecto Manufacturing APF75205 Marineland Fluorescent Recessed Full Lighting Hoods for Aquarium, 2

Perfecto Manufacturing APF75205 Marineland Fluorescent Recessed Full Lighting Hoods for Aquarium, 20-Inch, Black
  • Universal fluorescent recessed full hood designed to fit securely into the frame of Perfecto aquariums
  • The front access panel runs the entire length of the hood for daily maintenance and feeding
  • Glass shield insert protects electrical parts from moisture and corrosion
  • Available in black color
  • Measures 20-inch length

Out of all the 10 gallon hoods out there, most come with a tiny little lid for access in the front. Unacceptable for cleaning, feeding, etc. I used to own quite a few tanks up in New England but I moved to Florida over a decade ago and didn't bring them with me. I had to search high and low to find a Perfecto and frankly they are the best in my opinion. This hood arrived safely, new condition, it came quickly and was exactly what I ordered. Will definitely do business with them again.

Tetra White Scale Remover for Fountains, 8-Ounce

Tetra White Scale Remover for Fountains, 8-OunceI had the start of some white scale buildup on my outside fountain and bought this product believing it would clean it off. I followed directions but it didnt do a thing to the newly formed scale. i went through the whole bottle in short order with no results. I switched to vinegar and it worked. Vinegar is only 88 cents a bottle.

I chose the I don't like it rating because it did not solve my white scaling problem. I used it

in a fountain consisting of a brown pot that overflowed with water and also with a small pond with a waterfall

feature. It did not clean up the white deposits that were there after being in operation for only 2 weeks. It also

is not preventing the formation of new deposits. I followed the instructions on the bottle.

Zoo Med AquaSun T5-HO Double Light Linear Fluorescent Hood, 30-Inch

Zoo Med AquaSun T5-HO Double Light Linear Fluorescent Hood, 30-InchMaybe I was just ignorant when I purchased this, but just a warning to those that may not know; This does not come with the T5 HO lighting. You need to order it separately, and it seems that the only size that will fit (22" bulb) is only sold via Zoomed. I just ordered the bulbs so I cant really give this a review as far as the quality goes, but I just wanted people to be aware.

Its a great product, my plants were starving for light from the old light fixture. My tank is a 30gallon tank that came in a package that is sold at petstores and wal mart. Its very bright, only down side is that it does not sit flush with the top of the tank, which is good for tanks that have large aquatic plants that can grow above the water level but bad for fish that jump. Also, because it does not sit flush with the top of the tank light does escape out the front and back. But you just can't have a thriving plant tank with out proper lights and this light goes beyond expectations. The two light bulbs I used have 5,000k and 6,500k output and it has made a major difference in my plant growth.

The mounting brackets slide into the light fixture for a secure mount, so it wont slide and drop into the tank. The kit comes with (2) 4ft wire cords to screw into the top of the tank so you can hang it from the ceiling if you need more space for larger plants. The two light bulbs have independant on/off switch's but only one 3ft power cord. It keeps your timer from getting cluttered with two many power cords. You will need an extention cord if your outlet is farther that 3ft away from you light or your tank is up higher than mine..

The platic bulb cover slides out one side of the fixture to install light bulbs. There is a thin plastic wrapping on the glass from packaging, remove this film. It is very easy to clean, since the entire fixture is mounted on hinges.

From end to end the entire fixture is 32 inches wide and the mounting brackets can be positioned anywhere under the fixture, so this light will secure to any size tank 32inches wide or less.

Inside where the bulbs go, there is a reflector for maximum light exposure to the tank. The bulbs and reflector are protected by the clear plastic cover, so dust and algea can not reach them.

Can't beat the price or quality of this product. 5 stars...

I bought one of these lights locally. Its great. Provides plenty of light, and even has hinges on the brackets allowing you to easily flip up the fixture for maintenance and cleaning. The brackets are also adjustable, so you don't need them at the end, or use them at all. At nearly half the price of the GLO lighting, I feel this is a better deal. I am currently planning to buy more for my other tanks. I would defiantly recommended these lights for a cheaper (and just as durable) option for many of the T5 lighting available. If this is Zoo Meds entry into the aquarium market, they are off to a great start!

Good product, works as advertised. A few comments. Fixture does not include lamps, which is not explicitly stated that I could tell. I came to this conclusion before ordering, and think that it is still a decent value, but should be stated. Also, the fixture is rather deep, I am using it as a second light for a wide tanks, and it takes up a lot of room. The legs are very short, and are affixed to the fixture with a narrow tab of plastic that may be prone to break. I elected to use the included hanging kit, which works well.

This tank light is perfect for my needs. Came with two mount options: 'clamps' that latch onto the side of the tank or you can suspend it with included aluminum/steel wire. I have not tried to suspend it as I have nothing above my tank. The clamp system works great. In fact, I don't even use the attached screws for the clamp as I clean my tank very often. I can just lift the entire thing up one side at a time and clean away. The light assembly generates very little heat as well, which is a plus.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals 10J Pimafix Antifungal Fish Remedy

API Pimafix Antifungal Fish Remedy, 16-OunceMelafix and Pimafix are two of the flagship products by fish care giant API(aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc)A homeopathic antifungalPimafix works wonders in fresh, brackish and salt water aquariums. Unlike medications which are in essence chemicals Pimafix uses a soluble extract called "Pimenta Racemosa"

Pimenta Racemosa comes from West Indian Bay Trees and is extraordinarily effective in treating and curing a multitude of fungus related disease including:

* Fungus and cotton Fungus

* Mouth Fungus

* Body Fungus

* Red Streaked Fins

* Gill Fungus

The typical treatment for any of the above is a daily dose of 5 ml per 10 gallons of water for seven days. Usually you'll see significant improvement within 48 hours it's that fast and that effective. Pimafix can be used along with Melafix to ensure both bacterial and fungla infections are treated equally.

Pimafix can also be used when quarantining new fish and adding post quarantine fish into your community tanks.It's important to remember to remove activated charcoal during treatment.Both Pimafix and Melafix can foam slightly but will never cloud your water or change your water parameters.

It's a safe, gentle highly effective product that I've depended on for decades.After 40 years of keeping fish both Pimafix and Melafix are two products I highly recommend to anyone, novice to expert.

I gave this 4 stars because of the scent of it. It has a very strong mint/peppery smell that will linger in the water of your tank and hangs around in the air. I love that this bottle has a measuring cap on it that makes it handy to ensure I have measured out the correct dose. Other than the smell it is a great product! My only concern is that they recommend you treat the tank for 7 days without any active carbon and if you have high waste producing fish like goldfish that is not an option. I can usually go about 12 hours without active carbon before my fish start to show signs of ammonia distress. Since I cannot go an entire week minus active carbon I will only treat my main tank if I have several fish in need of it and salt did not help. Everyday I will pull out the active carbon for 5 hours then replace it and repeat until my fish are healed or for the max of 7 days. If I have a single fish that needs to be treated a hopsital tank is a must, or in my house hospital bucket (in case if I need to transport my fish). In the smaller hospital tank it is possible to go without active carbon if you do a water change everyday (20-30%).

This is great for fin rot or any wounds on fish, but I highly recommend adding salt to your tank(if it's a freshwater tank for goldfish, etc) first before adding any chemical med. to the tank. Salt works wonders on fish, just make sure you use aquairium salt and not TABLE SALT.

Also if your having fungus issues (cottony growth on the gills or around the face or on the fins) the fungus has to be coming from somewhere if you have an established tank. Clean all the hoses, gravel, decorations and filter, espically if it's a HOB (Hang-on-back of tank).Vinegar is a good, natural cleaner that will not hurt your fish if there is any residue after rising. Usually the cause of fungus is uneaten decaying food and decaying waste in the tank.

I was skeptical about this product when I bought it, but figured it would be worth a try. I used this product in conjunction with Melafix when our Black Moors and Glofish were sick. (They were sick when we bought them and didn't realize) The Black Moors had fin rot and this cleared it right up. It also helped when we made the mistake of putting a Puffer Fish (For reference, Puffer Fish should be kept by themselves) in the tank with the Black Moors. The Puffer ate the tails and fins of our fish and this kept an infection from starting in the fish. I highly recommend it if your fish is suffering from one of the maladies that this treats. It treats fungus or cottony growth, mouth and body fungus, and reddening of fins and body. Our fish are happily swimming around today after being treated with this a month ago.

not much to say. it works, our Koi are healthy and doing just fine. We use this if/when we ever notice anything unusual on their bodies, like eyes, fins, tail etc. its not something we have to use often, but it does the job when we need it

I've had two Dwarf Gouramis that had fungus (different occasions). I put them into my hospital tank and used Pimafix as per all the instructions. Both DGs died. Now, I cannot be sure why they died. Maybe the fish were too far gone already, both lived for about a day in the hospital tank. All I can say is that it hasn't helped any fish I've treated with so far. In the fish forums that I've visited, most of the opinions is that Pimafix does not help. Anyway, this is just my experience, you might have a different one.
